I was "cut" from a Maroon 5 music video that never ended up releasing because the label nope'd it once they caught wind of what was going on. Day Two on set was cancelled entirely. Samuel Bayer (Smells Like Teen Spirit) directed it. The song even ended up changed. Originally 'This Song Is Going To Hurt Like A Motherf*c*e*', but was later retitled and released as 'This Summers Gonna " " " " '. My banner pic is actually a shot from Ryan's (male lead) trailer on set that day. Karl (Shellback) put that song together in a single session with Adam and they were so hyped on it. Tried to put it out as a surprise release before the label could find them out and put a stop to it. Mission unsuccessful. Anyway, I say all this because I got the strangest SAG checks from that day. Didn't get paid for the entire first day of shooting, but then like a year later started receiving $26 checks out of the blue regarding it. Ryan didn't get paid for his day of work at all, but I'm pretty sure Helena, the female lead, did. I still don't know what happened with all that and it still bums me out.
Hi Tristan. I just subscribed to you recently. You were great in Stranger Things. Such a giant show to be a part of. Anything in the pipeline for you that you can talk about? Regarding projects? Be great to see you in other stuff.
Hey! Thanks for subscribing! There are a few small projects in the works, but it's been a rough last two years of the industry. The nature of being an actor is getting really close to a ton of things but not clicking for reasons you can't control. I've booked huge roles in shows that never made it out of development and been final consideration for ones that proceeded to get canceled with the role entirely scrapped in the process. It's just showing up again and again and doing your best in ways that the public never sees. The channel is a great way for me to have control over my creativity while navigating the unpredictability this industry has.
Thanks! I'm definitely grateful for how much I made. More than I'd ever had at any point in my life. But it's awesome to see the industry has found progress!

I feel like the residuals really should calculate the screentime a given actor was on for relative to other actors. And instead of calculating based off the number of subscribers (or even years elapsed) it should just calculate directly off the amount of watch time the show gets in that quarter -- so if a show doesn't get a lot of watch time long after release then it wouldn't generate as many residuals as another show that did get a lot of watch time that same number of years after release. Definitely can understand why Netflix's calculation isn't seen as fair. I'm sure there's even more details that could go into it ideally - and I'm also sure that depending on the contracts everyone's signed there may not be much that some actors could do about it :c
Wow, GREAT information Tristan! Seems like you might make a GREAT president of SAG. PLEASE continue your education and get your Law degree, along with your CPA. Looks to me that you have a LOT of all this figured out and being a Lawyer or an Accountant really wouldn't be the worst fallback position. (And I'm not saying you're going to need one). It's just that the industry can be so very fickle that a LOT of people who DO have talent, aren't getting the opportunities they deserve. So again, it's so GREAT to have a fallback position all ready to go. Great info...🎉🎉🎉!!!
But..but..but. But I was subscribed. What do you mean? 😅 Great explanation on how actors earn a living. I never knew how that all worked but I'm glad you keep getting the long term benefits from a shows success. I subscribed a few videos ago, because even though you played a villian, you did it effectively and made me dislike your character a lot. Which makes you a great actor in my opinion. I also like the behind the scenes acting skills you share. I can't wait to see more big things from you. Keep at it brother. You're killing it.🏆
Thank you so much for sharing your unique insight Tristan! In fact, your video made me think of an acting gig I did many years ago in Singapore, for the Australian open, a two day shoot, paid $2000! Awesome yay! Yet, that promo dominated the commercials 6 months on the largest network channels, in every country in Asia, from China to the Maldives! it was a cool experience regardless the money, if not a little scary since Im so shy and I thought it was just for local tv ;p
This was a really informative video. I had less than no idea how it all worked, and thought the strikers were just being greedy babies. I stand informed.
I like how he recognizes this is a lot of money, So many actors are CLUELESSLY out of touch with reality. I used to work with one of the TOP talent agencies and I've worked with many high profile Celebs, most are total douche bags.
this was actually really cool to know! thanks for sharing :) I love your videos! you were so good in stranger things, I tell my parents that all the time loll 🤣that ending caught me off guard lolll- (I AM subscribed!!)
Yeah agreed. While part of the "talent" is turning off your awareness of the cameras, lights, and remembering lines its also being a character. Alot of really big actors is easy to question if theyre all that talented because in interviews and stuff they dont seem far off as people fro the roles they play unlike Tristan here❤
All parts in a play, movie, or theater production matter, glad you are getting compensated for your contributions to a fun show and glad others in production are too, the strikes worked.
I love that you did this. It paints a different picture. May I ask, I think Netflix agreed you publishing this? Also, love your work in Stranger Things.
Looking forward to when your FBI episode gets broadcast internationally. Been getting submitted by my agent for FBI: International pretty often. So hopefully I will one day join that family!
Hi Trystan you are such a great actor especially in stranger things I would love to be an actor some day and you are one of my inspirations I hope you see this 💖💖(also I am subscribed) you seem like such a fun nice and sweet person to be around I really hope you see this
Hey Tristan ! This is such a great and informative video! I also work in the entertainment industry ! My claim to fame is that I designed baby groot! I wish there were ways for someone like me to get residuals for a design that made Disney millions! 😅 I would love to collaborate with you sometime ! Happy New Year !!
Insteresting information. Maybe that Netflix didn’t pay enough... but it’s cool to think that any actor from any show get same residuals, it’s solidarity for small shows. Is it like that for every countries ? (”Big” actors of big shows get bigger initial contracts, and they can get nice roles after, so it’s still fair.) And if you play in several shows, or in a lot of episode, residuals can be real money for normal people.

Great info...🎉🎉🎉!!!
you are a legend, keep doing what youre doing.
You're killing it.🏆
Haha just had to make sure. And I'm happy you found this informative! Thanks for being here!
That’s super interesting!! It’s nice to learn a big more on how Netflix actually works, thanks dude!
you have such a calming voice
Great video man, Hope you get another viral show
Thank you so much for sharing your unique insight Tristan!
I stand informed.
you looked very handsome in the show ngl HAHAH and you played your role so welllll GOOD JOB :)
This video was very instructive !
roblox ytuber hitting on someone
Great and interesting video!!
Nice brother, the way you explain it makes it super simple to follow along, wish you the best 💪💪
Thank you for watching I'm happy you found this helpful!
Youre so good at acting! You inspire me to become an actress one day!
Omg I did not know it was you playing number 2! He’s one of my fav characters! You’re so talented!🩷
ANOTHER UPLOAD! ❤
I could listen to this dude talk for hours
Super informative! I’ve been here since 3k
That's amazing! Thanks for being with us in the long run!
I like how he recognizes this is a lot of money, So many actors are CLUELESSLY out of touch with reality. I used to work with one of the TOP talent agencies and I've worked with many high profile Celebs, most are total douche bags.
Incredibly well made video!
this was actually really cool to know! thanks for sharing :) I love your videos! you were so good in stranger things, I tell my parents that all the time loll 🤣that ending caught me off guard lolll- (I AM subscribed!!)
Yeah agreed. While part of the "talent" is turning off your awareness of the cameras, lights, and remembering lines its also being a character. Alot of really big actors is easy to question if theyre all that talented because in interviews and stuff they dont seem far off as people fro the roles they play unlike Tristan here❤
From actor to RUclipsr! Kudos!
All parts in a play, movie, or theater production matter, glad you are getting compensated for your contributions to a fun show and glad others in production are too, the strikes worked.
Ur stranger things videos are just so good!!!
Thanks for watching!
are you appearing on season 5?
high quality vid, nice work
I like the way you explain things (:
Don't question the miracle
Great video!
Great info thank u!
Of course, thank you for watching!
Hi Trystan you are such a great actor especially in stranger things I would love to be an actor some day and you are one of my inspirations I hope you see this 💖💖(also I am subscribed) you seem like such a fun nice and sweet person to be around I really hope you see this
Hey thank you so much for watching our videos! Just put in the hours and you will. Don't be afraid to fail because it's the prerequisite for success.
@ thank you so much for replying I love your videos they help me so much thank you so much for the tips happy new year 💖💖
Hey Tristan ! This is such a great and informative video! I also work in the entertainment industry ! My claim to fame is that I designed baby groot! I wish there were ways for someone like me to get residuals for a design that made Disney millions! 😅
I would love to collaborate with you sometime ! Happy New Year !!
I know u played a bully but bros really just a chill guy.
Residuals are a beautiful thing, my friend. Acting in a beautiful piece of art is the greatest reward, but residuals are definitely fucking nice.
you did a good job on the show
Man I want to be an actor..in a movie! I do community theatre and stuff! But I think it would be so much fun and super cool!
Insteresting information. Maybe that Netflix didn’t pay enough... but it’s cool to think that any actor from any show get same residuals, it’s solidarity for small shows. Is it like that for every countries ? (”Big” actors of big shows get bigger initial contracts, and they can get nice roles after, so it’s still fair.)
And if you play in several shows, or in a lot of episode, residuals can be real money for normal people.
