THIRTYSOMETHING Reunion // ATX TV Festival // Season 7
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 июл 2018
- Prior to a television landscape that favors realism over idyllic life, where major characters face the risk of "being killed off," and daily life is portrayed somewhat accurately, thirtysomething did all that and more. The show that was an early experiment that quickly became a phenomenon, rewriting the rules for dramatic series in more ways than one. Helmed by creators Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz, thirtysomething not only drew viewers into the lives of its characters and tested the boundaries of conventional storytelling, it thrived with a multi-hyphenate cast, many of whom stepped into the role of director during the series run -- then stayed there for the next 30 years. ATX reunites these dynamic creatives as they look back at the series that re-wrote the book on TV dramas, and paved the way for a new direction in their careers. #thirtysomething
Panelists: Marshall Herskovitz, Edward Zwick, Polly Draper, Timothy Busfield, David Clennon, Melanie Mayron, Peter Horton
Moderator: Bill Keith (Entertainment Weekly)

Bring it back... call it Sixty-something. I’d watch it.
Sister, you don't know the HALF of it.
It’s coming back this year or next.
@@LAWoman323213 Cast didnt seem enthused - many missing.
Set it in 2020.
I think someone somewhere is being inspired to write it.
I'd like to see the original cast back together again, hopefully in the same house that Michael and Hope were in during the late '80's.
One of my top shows of all time. The characters, the plot lines, the conflicts, the drama, and the resolutions..... just a perfect storm
One of the best shows EVER!!!!
I was thirty something when the show aired and now my kids are thirty something and I’m sixty something! Let it come back to see how they are coping!
Was watching at 19 through my early 20s. I loved it. The show was so well done. For me at that age it was also weird cautionary tale. When Gary died I was so devastated 😢❤😢
PLEASE BRING THIS SHOW BACK, NETWORK TV IS SO UNBELIEVABLE BAD!!
Don't know how this found its way into my feed but so grateful it did- I had forgotten how this show moved me- this and St Elsewhere were undoubtedly the best television of the 80's.
a show way ahead of its time. still relevant.
Thanks for posting the panel of the best TV drama of all times - changed television forever.
Polly Draper looks fantastic.
I loved this series in the late '80's and early '90's.
David Clennon as Miles Drentell definitely had a Christopher Lee persona: quite sinister and darkly funny.
DAA looked like a fun place to work.
My favourite episodes were the Carly Simon party, and the bankruptcy episode where Michael and Elliot were shown in flashback while arguing about making a living working for Pressman's.
A brilliant series.
I had such a crush on Peter Horton's character...
I watched the show for the entire run starting in 1987 when I turned 30, and liked it. I still do. But I also realize it's a product of its time which of course it would be. As a quality drama television series, it's held up well. I think a much, much, smaller percentage of 30-something people now could relate to the show as EVERYTHING is SO drastically different. They could see it as a curious peek into an old-fashioned time of long ago.
What do you feel is different? I don't live in the US
@@עדיI’m guessing iPhones and social media. Technology in general.
I was 30-something in 1987 (30-31). I liked the show because I was able to relate to all the angst and searching for our place in the sun. A tad bit more diversity would have opened up a few additional story arcs. Other than that, good show that touched our imaginations and hearts.
Same here...
I was also a "Thirtysomething" Baby Boomer when this wonderfullly innovative show first aired. Now I am sixtysomething and retired, where did those years go?! It's so weird to me to see that the actors have aged too, (yes, I know that makes no sense)
Great tv drama. I really enjoyed each episode since 1987. Greetings from Chile.
The poem that Nancy read at
The hospital that Gary left her was breathtaking. I actually looked it
Up. Beautiful
Alice in wonderland ❤️
Through the Looking Glass actually 💕
I was 31 when it ended...loved loved loved the show. I liked how it dealt with real life without all that silly drama that shows so often add. Life is drama enough...! Would love to see a show with them ...sixty something.
They look well. Ken oilin had been in two TV shows before Falcon crest and Hill Street blues. Thirty something was well liked in Ireland. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
The video starts with him saying, "How great was it to hear that music again" but we don't hear the music, which was great.
Miles Drentell..... crazy good. The man we all hated
This is a show they should reboot! 😃
the tried :(
I loved this show so much and I was 21 years old
Too bad David Clennon got cut off before he could get in a word about playing Miles. He did such an amazing job, and Miles was such a pivotal character, I would love to have heard a bit about Clennon's process.
Get the DVDs - a lot of great extras INCLUDING 2 (yes 2) specials with David Clennon talking all about Miles!
He did a great job with Miles. Such a complex character and he made him seem both interesting and vaguely evil.
Yes!! Wish the actors had had the opportunity to speak more!
Polly Draper is so beguiling. I love her!! And I love this show, but I will always have a special place in my heart for the Ellyn Warren character. Gosh, she played that role so well! All of them played their roles so well. This show was just so brilliant. I love everything about it.
She married the band leader on the old The Arsenio Hall Show way back then. Peter Horton still so handsome! One of my all-time favorite shows.
Her character was so boring
I was 30 something when we moved to the US from Germany (1990). Learned the language watching over and over again, loved it, still love it, great show!!!! And YES, bring it back! Alohawatson, yes, sixtysomething, BRING IT BACK!
The two main characters that the show was based around aren't even there. That's like a Star Trek reunion without Captain Kirk and Spock.
I liked Thirtysomething
I had a love/hate relationship with this show because it was so sappy and everyone had such PC careers but I watched EVERY episode. Clearly, the most memorable episode was Gary's unexpected death, but my favorite storyline was Melissa and Lee's relationship and hands down my favorite scene was Ellen listening to her mother talk about the kind of man that leads to a fulfilled life. I wish I could find that scene somewhere. It really opened Ellen's eyes about her disdain for her mother and her insecurity about her own relationship (with Billy if I remember correctly). It was very moving.
Think it was in the pilot
I think it's season 2, the episode is No Promises. Ellyn learns of her parents divorcing. She assumed it was her Dad's decision, when it was her mother that was unhappy 😔
The sequel is in casting and coming back to ABC.
Timothy Busfield never misses a reunion. Why not? I’d not miss one either.
This was such a great show, its was pure magic!!! I also loved “My So Called Life” and “Glory”, “Blood Diamond”. They were all fantastic.
I remember the 'shave your legs' episode lol I was so pissed at his character!
I absolutely loved the show!
This was/still is a fabulous show! Such a bummer it doesn’t get aired. I read it isn’t because of music rights being too costly.
Still crushing on Polly Draper.
She looks great
@@shantolion1576 I suspect she's had some work done....
@@martynb901 she looks natural to me...the voice is the same,,that’s what did it for me and still does..but Mel Harris was my favorite..
@@alpha-omega2362 Mine too!
I would go and get a snack or to the loo when she came on
Loved this show!
Really liked this show.
I loved that show
TV to learn from!
Been binge watching the show for a few days now and like Friends, ThirtySomething doesn't get old (at least not to me) Sad not all the cast were there but I truly enjoyed the ones that were. So, any chance of a regroup & a new show or is that a crazy idea? Gary could do a Bobby Ewing & turn up in the shower 🤔 IJS 😉
Sandy D Lea - - there's a fun Facebook group: thirtysomething tv show fan page . Please join if you haven't already. the admins have done fairly recent podcasts with the actors, writers & creators. Also, a recent news item about Herscovitz & Zwick considering a reboot. The article is posted there. :)
@Tom Maude- season 3 & 4 are on youtube. I also have them on DVD's, but sometimes will let youtube run one episode after the other. :D
@Tom Maude DVDs!!!
Too bad Ken Olin and Patricia Wettig couldn't make time for this..
No Mel Harris, either.
He (they) ...may have intentionally chosen to distance themselves from it intentionally.
Sorry about the word redundancy of the 2nd 'intentionally'.
very weak on their part
I wish the producers would have talked less and let the actors talk more.
Damn, I'm old
Awesome!!! So, dame time next week?? How about sixtysomething???
I always. Thought 30 some thing was based on the big chill somehow because I felt like it’s so alike
Yes!!!
I interviewed for a PA position for the show in its 2nd season. I’m sure I didn’t get the job because I came across as too much a fan (fanatic)! I gushed. I couldn’t help it!!!
Where is Hope and Michael?
Ganz lieben Dank !!!! Das war mal eine hilfreiche Nachricht. Schöne Weihnachtstage in die USA
What was the name of the episode where the characters are each recounting an incident they have observed, but none of the perspectives agree.
Polly still a fox.
Where's Ken and Patty?? They should've waited to do this until they were available. I'm writing this assuming they would've wanted to do this - but I can't imagine they wouldn't?? I never read anything or saw any interviews indicating any ill feelings towards the series or their co-actors. Too bad.
Loved Nancy. Couldn’t stand Hope. She wasn’t up to the other actor’s standards to me. Loved when Melissa dated the younger guy Lee. Corey Parker played him and I had such a crush on him.I won’t even get into Gary dying….😫
I actually was 30 something when this show came on and I really loved it. My husband did too. It would be cool if they did a reboot of this show with the same people in their 60s like someone else already said on here.
Where’s Ken Olin?
Where are. Nancy and Mike and Hope?
Where is ken Olin & Patricia wettig?
Were was Ken Olin ?
Where is Mel Harris????
Why is Miles not talking? 🤔
The moderator should ask him a question.
He is still pissed Michael left D.A.A
Wow, they all look so incredibly bored...
Absolutely more like sixtynothings
Wait a minute they were all in their thirties in the 80s
I thought it was a great show until the last season...that's when, in my opinion, it became The Michael Steadman show. The other characters just became background for that character and I lost interest.
Most boring character was Ellen worst actress was hope over all it was a great show!
God, I hated this show. Pretentious crap.
so why are you here and why should we care
😂😂😂
