This show was EVERYTHING to me. I was single then but wanted Hope's life--a stay-at-home mom with a great husband. It used to make me sad how Ellen always tried to make her feel like she was wasting her life. I was thankful that they wrote Hope's character to realize she wanted to be home with Janie and that was ok, too. Years later when I was a new mom, Lifetime used to rerun the episodes at like 1am and of course, with a new baby, I was up and this show helped get me through those crazy nights. PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! Get this show streaming somewhere!

This show and "Sisters" were two of the best written, best directed, best acted shows of the early 90's. I loved to watch alone because I did not know how emotional I would get. I felt the vulnerability of the characters and their lives. This was great TV. It didn't hurt that I had crushes on all of the male leads.

With respect to the episode where Gary dies and the scene with Nancy talking to the kids about heaven - I think that might also be the episode where Nancy finds out that she will survive cancer because I remember her talking to someone where she questions why was she chosen to live and Gary was the one who died. I was so invested in Thirtysomething. Many nights I would be the only one up watching it as my husband and kids would be asleep. The cancer story really moved me. It just seemed so real. It was beautifully acted.

It’s easy to see how much thirtysomething influenced my life. I spent a decade living a professional life like Ellyn, twenty years living a bohemian life like Melissa and now am in a relationship who splices the goofy humor of Elliot, the angst of Michael and the sensitive rebel like Gary.
The writing was groundbreaking...Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz were masters at micro-movement in human relationships. One of my favorite lines of all time, “I keep forgetting that college and reality are incompatible.”

I was exactly the age of the thirtysomething cast when the show aired and, in my mind, we were all friends living through similar experiences. When Gary died, I was literally inconsolable. The next morning my radio alarm came on and the theme song to thirtysomething was playing. I remember just lying in bed thinking about how insensitive the station was to play that song the day after Gary died. BTW, I was a college educated, successful career woman who read great literature and this show STILL captivated me like none other. So great to see the cast again.

The door opened and she just stepped out into nothing. I thought that was cheap and manipulative and frankly just horror for the sake of horror. But there was something beautiful, and ironic, and deep, and truly heart-renderingly sad about Gary's demise. It felt real, like a real friend who brought so much life to us was struck down. What a treat to spend some time with this cast again in modern times! Thanks to Seth and James for enabling this reunion and seeing how vital these actors still are. thirtysomething was my favourite show back in the day - the writing and acting were so real it was hard not to become invested in the characters. I was also impressed with the creative camerawork. I have the CD soundtrack of the music and also the book of thirtysomething scripts. When ABC pulled the plug after four seasons, I wrote to them in protest. It was like a death! Following that, I kept up with Zwick and Herskovitz's subsequent series Relativity, Once And Again, My So-called Life, and even Dream Street, always impressed with the quality of the stories and the casting. And again, not allowed long runs. A side note: Too bad Terry Kinney wasn't in this reunion - I always remember his romance with Ellen and a particular scene with ski boots!

And although they had limited time in the show, I'd like to see Terry Kinney and Erich Anderson. It would be great to hear their memories too.
I think my favorite episode was the Christmas episode in the first season. I thought (Melissa) Melanie and (Michael) Ken were going to kill each other in that episode - haha - but they were so, so good - great acting. They were very real and raw. Same with the trials of Nancy and Elliott. Amazing acting - especially for TV. They deserved every award and should've received more!
I really could not pick a favorite character. They really were all such likeable and relatable characters and I think most fans would agree. And I, for one, am happy to go back in time and rewatch a show without cell phones, iPads and the internet. Very nostalgic and while I'm sure that's part of my love for the show for me, but it's still one of the best written, acted, and directed shows in TV history.

This was so much fun to watch! I loved this show. It first aired when I was 30 years old and just had a new baby, I could identify with so much on the show at that time and I was home a lot too having a new baby, so it meant more to me than most shows would.

Everybody looks great! I miss this show so much. All kidding aside, I really do wish they would do seventysomething--or at least sixtysomething since that's a shorter wait for us. I also miss Once & Again, which didn't even get a third-season DVD put out for it and, of course, Parenthood. Miss that so much. These are the types of shows that resonate. These characters become family and friends.

I loved this show! I was in my early 20s when it came on and all I wanted was to be Hope Steadman and live in an old house and drive a Jeep Cherokee.
Also the episode of West Wing with Mel as Senator Raferty is one of my favorites. She was perfect for that role.

The character of Hope influenced me so much during that time. She was my character crush. LOL! I wore my hair like her, lots of hoop and dangly earrings, the vests..... I wanted to live in a cool old house that was in constant state of renovation (I didn't). Everything about her life as a mom, even the struggles, seemed like the life I was leading. I had 2 small kids born in the 80s, and was pregnant with a 3rd when the show ended. I was born in 1955, and was very much in the middle of Thirty-Something years of age while this show was on the air.

I loved this show. I had a crush on Ken Olin. Anyone watching the show A Million Little Things? This show is so much like Thirty Something and it is so well done. There are all these connected friends and what goes on in their lives. I highly recommend this show. And one of the guys in this show looks a lot like Ken Olin. I thought he might be his son. His name escapes me right now. But he is the one married and has a son. He plays music and recently ended up in a wheelchair after being hit by a truck.

For me, Patricia Wetting as Nancy is the Breaking Bad of female characters, the one who changes the most, from weak in one season to badass to trembling with vulnerability. Every film and TV actress/actor should study this work.

Okay Netflix, let's go!! I am so ready for a new season of Thirtysomething...now Fiftysomething. Cast is so great. They've 'brought back' so many shows w Netflix...if you're going to return to something then return to something w stellar actors and real life emotional stories. I think it would be fascinating to see same characters 25 + yrs later. Life is a wild ride of trauma grief and change. It will be a huge success. Surely Netflix must know this?!
