So after a full concert, Plant still manages to belt this vocally intense song off the rafters. The man's voice in 70 was, for lack of a better word, astonishing.
Plant then went and performed another gig later that night with Fariport convention . The gig with Fairport convention was professionally recorded and the members of Fairport said that Plants voice was so powerful during that era that plants vocals spilled onto all the other instrument tracks om the multitrack tapes because his voice was so powerful it spilled into every microphone onstage. August/September 1970 was plants Absolute live peak. It's the peak period within his peak period of 69 to February of 72 . Amazing as he sounded in 1971 from March to August At gigs like Belfast Dublin Copenhagen Odense and Montreux Vancouver which are among his greatest performances of All time even those are not as powerful as the August/September 1970 performances Belfast and Copenhagen 71 come close but not quite at that level. He still has just as much high range and can hit all the same notes but even in early 71 his voice is thinner and not quite as full . He sounds like he has to stain a little more to hit those same highs and he does not hold the high notes or the peak of a scream for as long as he did in 1970 . The difference is subtle but is noticeable. You don't really notice this slight decline in early 71 when you have not listened to 1970 recordings for awhile but when you listen to August/September 1970 and pre September 1971 back to back you can hear it but even still with anything from 69 to March 1972 you are hearing the most impressive vocal run of all time. Plant on a mediocre in 1971 is still incredible and better than almost anyone else . Hell 1977 plant blows most vocalists out of the water
@@officergregorystevens5765 yeah that F# minor is gritty as a walk down and the E Major is very happy. G# minor and E major, where they end up, both relative keys seeing as they have the same notes, just different starting points. That gives it that range of feeling you’re talking about. Very true.
Wow.. i just recently found this. Never heard of this live full version before except during the opening riff for Black Dog...this is sooooooo bloody awesome!!
He had surgery on his vocal cords in the early 70s and so he changed his approach. Probably a good thing he did or he wouldn't sound as good as he does today in certain registers
@@RisingSon011 yeah he sang with the flu in 73 and fucked his throat up. Try and hit high notes for hours on end and not have throat problems...add the flu if you're daring
He developed nodes on his vocal cords in the summer of 1971. He lost his gut wail in 1971 and by the summer of 1972 he was mostly falsetto but still able to hit high notes like on Immigrant Song, and sing songs like Rock and Roll and Over The Hills in the proper register. You want to hear Plant at his best? Try Belfast 1971. Listen to Black Dog. Getting Plant like that was becoming rare. He started really struggling in Japan October 1972 and it was wobbly until January 2, 1973 when he caught the flu hitchhiking to the gig in Sheffield. He still was not too bad in 1973, but he really bottomed out on the 1975 tour. He truly made a remarkable comeback vocally in 1977 where he had a lot more power. The really high range was gone, but it was replaced with a powerful lower Plant. Watch him at Knebworth to see him in action. All you need to do is compare Rock and Roll at Knebworth with any 1975 version to hear a huge difference.
When u sing your heart out 200+ days a year, smoke cigarettes, weed, drink booze, talk too loud at after parties you might destroy your voice.. if u sing , take care of it.
Man this song is out of this world kickass awesome! It's a shame they had to take the full version out of the setlist forever after the MSG gig later that same month in favor of Black dog. In witch we all know is one of the most overplayed songs.
Their ballsiest move was III. Out on The Tiles should have been the hit, but it barely had a single. Tangerine was a ballad Harrison challenged them to write on Houses of the Holy...the rain Song was forced...why didnt they tell him we already did, its on III. After II, they coulda did the easy thing, but bands werent forced to write "hits" like now. Some songs are too long, some are too...weird and some too soft. No clue why this wasnt played over a turd like Black Dog. I still cant watch or listen to anyone without comparing it to the 3 song MC5 video from 1970. They were untouchable on stage. He was probably very young (Plant)...too bad this song got passed by over the years, its among their best
Zep could do no wrong at this point in their career. Plant’s range is the best I’ve ever heard right here.
one of the toughest songs to play...!!! they knocked it out of the park
OMG finally got to hear it live.
I know! I am always expecting it to go into "black dog", as it became an intro to other songs after 1970.
Ram4 Looking for it now. Thx Ram4
@Lynda White Listen to THIS version of Out on the Tiles from 2 weeks later in 1970! ruclips.net/video/QphY7r88cGU/видео.html

I was watching an interview with Ritchie Blackmore who met him when he was young and that was the word he used to describe Plant also
From 1969 to August 71 he was the greatest of all time.

@@adamwatson6916 Id go one year further...until 72.
Underrated album track, brothers and sisters.
it's definitely a ZEP track and let's face it Zeppelin 3 was a great album 👍
My Favorite❤
This is soooo heavy and yet soooo upbeat at the same time!
Helps that it's in a major key. The main riff after the descending opening bit is an F sharp major chord arpeggio, if I remember right.

Wow Robert Plant was on fire.

The guitar tone is just crazy
I love how in the first part of the first chorus Robert sings low and then high,as if a man is saying it to a woman
I love it when singers do that. So unexpected.
Went to this concert ! Out of this world.
I’m not an envious person, but damn I’m jealous. I’ve been listening to this bootleg for 35 years and always said I wish I was at this concert.
