Love that you’re letting go of being so strict in your skincare routine! It’s all just about being consistent. I just use the 99% organic aloe Vera gel as my moisturizer because it hydrates very well.

I totally cut down on my skincare too. I still double cleanse at night only because I wear tinted sunscreen as my foundation but I cut down to just moisturizer and tret at night and moisturizer and sunscreen in the morning. I just slap everything on with no wait times anymore. At 48, I finally made peace with healthy skin with normal flaws/imperfections over anti-aging. I was just over my complicated routine and my quest for flawless skin.

I hope youre doing okay, I know youve said in past videos youve been really depressed and lifes been rough. This video was really chaotic and entertaining to watch but also a bit worrying 😭 so I hope youre doing good.
Ive also stopped double cleansing simply because I just dont think its necessary. I rarely ever use water proof makeup, and if I use water proof sunscreen youre right, by the end of the day its completely rubbed off on my mask or dissolved. Your take on skincare has given me a lot to think about.

I wear several layers of water resistant sunscreen (esp now in the summer), European ones, and I have no issue getting it completely off with a gentle foaming cleanser (currently Cerave cream to foam). I think the double cleanse has been popularized by women wearing lots of make-up, but in my experience sunscreen alone comes off with a regular cleanser, just lather it well and massage the skin.

I loved this video, your skin looks awesome. I don’t double cleanse, never did. I think less is more. Many skincare steps it’s marketing. At night I use a normal cleanser for my skin type, moisturizer, tretinoin. Morning just cleanser and sunscreen. My skin is better and healthier now. I use a water resistant sunscreen because I sweat a lot when the weather is hot and humid

This video speaks to me because I’ve stopped double cleansing too. I’ve absolutely had to stop double cleansing because of my Rosacea. No matter how “sensitive skin friendly” the products are (and I've tried dozens) cleansing twice always aggravates my Rosacea something awful!! My Rosacea is fine with one cleanse. But for now that means I have had to stop using sunscreen too because I haven’t found one that washes off without double cleansing (I don't wear makeup so that's not an issue, just the sunscreen). I was prescribed low dose Tretinoin for the Rosacea so I know I must be wearing sunscreen if I’m using Tretinoin, so I don't know what to do now. If I remember correctly you mentioned in earlier videos that you have Rosacea too, so I’m wondering, what specific Japanese sunscreens are you using that wash off with just one cleanse? Are there any specific ones that you've found to be “Rosacea friendly”? I know everyone’s Rosacea can react a little differently to products, but I have no idea where to re-start with sunscreen since I can only cleanse once now.

Having a skincare revival of my own, so I've been watching a ton of videos from diff ppl of different professions on YT to get perspectives and arrive at my "own" conclusion. My two cents on a few things you've shared here:
    - I also don't double cleanse. My sunscreen is a mix of physical. And chemical sunscreens, my skin is fine with just one water-based cleanser. One of my cleansers has salicylic acid for days when I feel bumps presenting themselves. And I believe a ton of cleansers are formulated better to deal with the usual things we put in our faces.
    - I've done away with bath towels, but I'm still using a Japanese style towel called tenugui. It's long and narrow and dries fast, perfect to dry off my back and areas I'm uncomfortable to air dry
    - I alternate days when I'm using vit c and tret, to minimize irritation and to extend my use of the product. I also take a break from actives during weekends, just to let my skin do it's own thing
    - skincare is very personal. For some it is a pamper time, for me it's mandatory since I'm getting older, I want to age well & not suffer from any avoidable skin conditions. That's why I research, add things slowly, and get ruthless in critiquing each and every product I am interested in. My wallet is strict and I am an efficient(aka lazy) person, so I'd rather do the 1-2-3steps and be out the door or onto the next thing 😂

I stopped double cleansing a few years ago, but kind of the opposite of how you do it. My skin looks far better for it, regardless. What I use is, at night DHC cleansing oil, which is water soluble, so it leaves no residual, not the way I use it anyway. Basically I massage it into dry skin, I use lots of it, then I use a clean wet washcloth to remove it all. Using both sides of the cloth gets it all. I don't dry with a towel or anything, I just spray with Avene Thermal Water while my face is still damp, then almost immediately apply a Hyaluronic Acid lotion (Hada Labo), let it sit for a bit and then seal it with the Hada Labo "milk" moisturizer. The only face cleanser I use is a gentle one, something like Hada Labo HA or mild Cerave in the morning. Then I follow with the same procedure as night time, only I follow with spf after the milk has dried down.
As a 47 year old, I think this is just far less stripping for my skin than the double cleanse, meaning that it keeps my skin barrier as healthy and intact as I can, and destroys less beneficial bacteria. Having used sunscreen daily since I was a teenager, I don't use or need a bunch of treatments on my skin now, just Adapalene a couple of nights a week, and BHA liquid a couple of nights a week, and I use those long after my "milk" has dried down...it makes them far less irritating. The rest of the time, I do nothing, one of my best discoveries has been that my skin looks so much healthier when I don't use active treatments on a daily basis. It was actually listening to some Dr Sturm opinions on inflammation that led me down that path, though Dr Dray is still my favorite YT doc. It is so nice to have the amount of info that we have online. Hopefully everyone can sift through it, and find what works for them.

You've made so many important points during this skincare routine!!!.. I guess less is more......personally, I find if I use less products my skin reacts better......I am usually indoors therefore I also choose Japanese sunscreens....I live in northern Europe, therefore don't need a water resistant sunscreen. I tried vitamin C but it was a disaster!!!!.. to sensitive..even derivatives....BUT unlike you, I like doing skincare.... nevertheless, I do wonder sometimes if layering ALL those products ( even if they are fragrance free, no alcohol, no essential oils) really work or penetrate the skin.... I do like peptides..and ceramides ( ???).. Tretinoin is something not easy to get here in Europe....Anyway... you skin looks very healthy!! Take care

Isn’t the Skin Aqua waterproof? (I have t tried it yet. But thought it was?) i think you said it’s your new fave since the redesign so do you find regular cleanser removes it? Given my routine is already so long, I get lazy & avoid waterproof sunscreen so I can avoid having to double cleanse.

I do think massage helps product penetration though I have no scientific basis to make this claim! On another level I believe in the power of touch-it’s an act of self-love to perform a facial massage on ourselves and perhaps that has benefits that go beyond product penetration. ♥️

    • @frugalskin
      @frugalskin  2 года назад +1

I definitely think it helps with blood circulation which is undoubtedly good for the skin. But I love the self-love theory. I was just reading about touch deprivation and how harmful it can be for mental health.

It's so exhausting to look for a sunscreen that looks cosmetically elegant(NO WHITE CAST!) and protects against blue light(don't need more hyperpigmentation) for an affordable price. I have been thinking about mixing iron oxide powder into my zinc oxide powder, but I don't know what that will do to the SPF and I don't like the "makeup" look because I am a guy.

    • @ggasmr
