Really sorry to hear you are unwell Cap. Hopefully someone can keep us updated about you. See you soon
@Cap hope it's not a recurrence of your previous illness. If so, all we can do is hope you keep strong and you're not away too long.
I don;t think so. This seems more like a chronic nagging thing. I personally suspect long term anxiety has taken its tole.
@@grimreapers wish you well Cap. I know what it's like feeling unwell all the time... Having just recently been diagnosed with FND, on top of ME, is playing havoc with my life.
The only reason you need is the little one who calls you Daddy. Everything and everyone else is secondary.
Just remember you are not alone in these fights.
@@grimreapersWish you well man, you're the best DCS content maker out there! Hope you get better soon
Get well soon Cap
@@grimreapers I also suffer from anxiety and it sucks. Be good to yourself. We
Wishing you all the very best with your hospital treatment Cap, you will be sorely missed.
Whatever you are gonna be grounded for Cap, hope you get well soon! I certainly look forward to seeing you fly again.
"so here's sweden, they speak funny here" had me dying
Literally five seconds after I’ve read this comment cap said the line and I’m reeeeling 😅😂
Finnish person here 👋. It's so nice to see you trying out our home corners.
First, about the history... of course we had war with Soviet Union and a lot of air combats, recon and bombing missions during that time but not any major battles that you might think of. Unless you want to reenact the sinking of the Tirpitz which happened in Tromssa Norway.
But today the focus of war games is just in this area. We know that Murmansk is an important naval base for both Russian northern fleet and their submarines. They are very close to Finnish and Norwegian borders and some missions in possible scenario would happen in this area. There is also Russian army base of Alakurtti few hundred kilometers south from Murmansk, I didn't see it in the map. Also Plesetsk space center and their ICBM silos are a bit east from Arkangel, but I don't think that the map extends that far. Experts also speculate that Russia may test the 5th amendment of Nato agreement in this northern area by invading Finland in Lapland (feel free to try 👊) where Swedish and Norwegian armed forced would be first involved with their Gripens and F-35's (Norway).
There are few ideas what you may want to test. Whatever is your health issue, Cap, I wish you all the best and quick recovery.
The Swedish volunteer air force was based in Kemi during the 1940 Winter War against the Soviet Union.

hope you get better soon CAP
I sincerely hope you get well soon!
The road bases in Sweden are everywhere. During the cold war the swedes converted a few roads to runways to use viggens if a surprise attack were to happen and airbases were destroyed. They could take off and land from roads, that's why the viggen has canards and reverse thrust, to be able to make those short take offs and landing.
Same doctrine in Finland. There are several prebuilt highway airstrips around Finland
Bodø Main Airforce Base is historicaly Northern NATO’s largest airbase, at the most durring the cold war, Norway had 2 fighter Squadrons, 1 SAR squadron and 1 transport squadron stationed there, also it used to contain Norway’s main QRF for scrambling fighters. Lots of cold-war history in the area. Also the airbase where Francis Gary Powers was supposed to land his U2 at when he got shot down over the Sovietunion in 1960. Later the base was used by SR-71s.
I was lucky enough to get a tour of the underground hangars there. I hope they keep these maintained and open them up for the public in the future. It was impressive to go in through the massive nuclear-proof (I think...) blast door.
I have visited the great aircraft museum on the edge the Airbase, if memory serves they have a Lockheed U-2 on display as like you say they did operate from there. Bodo was one of the first places attacked by paratroopers in WWII, when the German's dropped in to capture the tactically important strip as it was one of few large airfields above the Artic Circle at the time.
@@peteturner3928 Almost right, areas around Stavanger and Oslo where attacked by german paratroopers when Norway was invaded. Bodø on the other hand was firebombed on the 27th of May 1940.
@@peteturner3928 they did have a U-2 at that museum when I visited it 5 years ago, they were/are also supposed to have a 737 there for some reason
@@kimbonzky thanks for the correction, I was just going by the info our guide gave us at the time.
Finland is known as the Country of a thousand lakes.
Finland does not really have any tall mountains. In fact, a funny fact is that:
in 2017 when Finland celebrated 100 years of independence, the government of Norway wanted to gift Finland a mountain.
There was however some legal issues, so the the present was determined to not be a possibility.
edit: The tallest peak in the Scandinavian Mountains, is located in Norway. It's 2,469 metres (8,100 ft) high.
The tallest peak in Sweden is 2,104 m (6,903 ft).
The tallest peak in Finland is 1,324 m (4,344 ft).
I've eaten my fair share of butter and today I learned Finland is in Minnesota somewhere.
My province has over 100,000 lakes. Granted, its twice your size.
Finland has got 187,888 lakes according to the latest surveys (accoring to the rule a lake must be bigger than 500 square meters or 5400 square feet). Of these 309 are bigger than 10 square km and eight bigger than 500 square km.
The biggest, the Suur-Saima lake system, is about 4400 square km and the fourth-largest natural freshwater lake in Europe.
The survey was completed in the 1990’s by paying a group of students to count all lakes from general survey maps by hand. The same survey showed that Finland also has got 178,947 island bigger than 100 square meters and 75,818 bigger than 0,5 square km.
Wow! Dcs hired Slartibartfast for this map!
I understood that reference!
You can tell by the Fjords.
Too bad the Fjords got destroyed to make room for a hyperspace bypass 😔. At least they are memorialized in this map
Well they do give a continent a nice Baroque feeling
Nerds the lot of ya!
Rovaniemi is a mixed base, both civilian and military uses it.
The other subs are in Polyarny.
There is a Typhoon underway too. And a further look at Earth shows the location of the Kuznetzov and A Kirov class cruiser.
The statue that you overflew was the Alyosha Monument in Murmansk.
Already working on a 'Homage to EF2000' campaign for GR. Love those Fjords.
When Cap said "You know what this reminds me of...?" I immediately thought "EF2000"
Cap. Google earth is your friend. Severomorsk has SU-33, Bears, Frogfoots, IL-76s, and possibly a couple of Fulcrum Ks IL-38 ASW aircraft and Helix helicopters. Basically the whole OBAT of the northern fleet. Thats a Delta class. The Typhoon has the conning tower at the rear and the missiles in front. The Delta was the other way around.
Thanks!
Get better soon Cap! We're all here for you! Cap Valued by Valued Viewers!
Sorry to hear about how you are feeling Cap, best wishes for getting well. As a viewer and you are looking for ideas that we enjoy, you could just have videos of Grumpcam eating chips while he plays. Or videos from Dark's POV shooting down his teammates.
Everyone clamoring for a Vietnam map needs to take note. To do it right, it would need to be half again the size this map. Distances between the US/RTAF bases and the Hanoi/Haiphong area are between 250mi to 400+ mi.
Hope whatever is ailing you sorts out quickly
🙏🙏
Yup Vietnam is a HUGE country in terms of latitude.
To do it right, they'd have to include much of Cambodia and Laos as well, but that still wouldn't include the bases in the Philippines that hosted bombers and tankers.
Get down into those mines with a Huey
That huge statue is the Alyosha Monument in Murmansk.
Cap I wish you the best. Hope you get well soon and know that your leadership will be missed. Hurry back
That Siberian meteor was an airburst. It did not leave a creator.
So you are saying there is no God?
I think he was saying it's a meteor that's not leaving the creator, so it's a very devout meteor of the cloth
@@oxydoxxo I suppose if you believe in a universal creator, then nothing can ever leave. The weft and weave of reality is infinite and eternal
The swedish city just north west of your take off, is Kiruna. It was for some time the largest city in the world, area wise... and due to the massive iron ore mine located
there causing cracks and movements in the bedrock, they decided to move the entire town "a bit over to the right". A move which is now starting to be completed.
This was also source of iron, which the military lead by the man with a funny mustage, was so keen on. Not the most glorious of moments in swedish history, but I
think it turned out as it should have. All things considered.
@seanprice7645 "...for some time...", not is, nor has always been. This was in the 1970's or 80's. I was a kid then, so I might have misunderstood the facts. 🙂
Besides:
The urban area of La Tuque is 6,33 km2.
The urban area of Kiruna is 10,06 km2...
😛 🙂
Both are rather small compared to the really big "cities" though... who knew that Greenland would be "up there" on the lists.
Rovaniemi is mixed civilian and military.
Excited by this.... relive EF2000 missions out of Tromso/Bodo
This!
Yarp
I'm at Duxford for D-Day 80th airshow
Nice - happy memories of the Kola Peninsula playing Microprose's F-19/F-117A Stealth Fighter sim in the 80's, bombing the sub pens at Severomorsk with CBU FAE's :)
Hope you feel better soon!
I played Comanche back in the day, Cap! Get well soon, Brother
Bødø was a huge base in the Cold War. I don't know any details but I'd bet it had fighters, tankers, sea patrol & AWACS.
Makes perfect sense given the distance from Russia. Near, but not too close.
But is apparently getting turned into just a SAR base now?
One thing about missions in the arctic is depending on the time of year you'll have almost no daytime (winter) or almost no nighttime (summer).
13:12 it wasn't a Typhoon class, it was Delta IV class
Thanks!
I can't think of - anything more exciting than listening to you - people talk about healthcare.
Severmorsk 3 has Fulcrums Olenegorsk has Backfires. Monchegorsk is Fencers and Foxhounds.
Wishing you a speedy recovery, Cap. Watching your videos is better than 90% of the dross that's on TV these days (except Clarkson's Farm, that is awesome haha).
Me when grim reaper uploads🥴
There are a lot of iron ore mines in northern Sweden as they have some extremely pure iron deposits, prized for centuries for making high quality iron & steel.
Many of the 🇸🇪 mines ship to 🇳🇴 ports, which are much closer than their own. This led to otherwise small town's in WWII becoming strategic assets, hence targets.
@@corvanphoenix The Swedish ports are downhill all the way from the mines and the trains don't have to cross the highest parts of the mountains.
On the third hand the Swedish ports are about as far up the Baltic Sea as you can get, while the Norwegian ports are straight on the Atlantic.
Summa summarum: you're right. The logistics of iron ore is a very strategic part of any war lasting long enough to need resupplies.
I did not read that as Koala initially, nope, nope, nope.
Hope for a quick recovery, Cap!
I have been flying the map and I love all the water throughout.
"To the Defenders of the Soviet Arctic during the Great Patriotic War (Russian: Защитникам Советского Заполярья в годы Великой Отечественной войны), commonly called Alyosha (Russian: 'Алёша'; Alyosha is an affectionate diminutive form of the name Aleksey) is a monument in Murmansk, Russia to Soviet soldiers, sailors, and airmen of World War II (called, in Russia, the Great Patriotic War)."
"No weapons today guys!" and Dark hears "YOU NEED FOX 3 WEAPONS FOR YOUR TEAM, they love to Eject" :D
And @cap
ALL THE VERY BEST FOR YOU!
I can already hear operation IKEA and defend the kola cubes. Shout if you need someone to crash on take off in your absence, but most importantly get better soon....your valued views demand it 🖖
Video idea: race airplanes along the taxiways in Jokkmokk.
Great video, thx for the tour, get better soon, Cap.
I dont play dcs so I watch because you guys are funny and entertaining. Love your work bud and I hope the best for your health Cap.
Hope you get well soon… if you are visiting Munich in the future… I take you up in the sky in a Cessna 182… fyi in the 90s I have been in Trondheim with the German Air Force with my Patriot battalion in the 90th and in Kirkenes in a snow hotel with my wife before COVID.. we love the north of Norway and it is looking much better than in the map 🤣
Don’t be a menace in South Central while drinking your juice in the Hood! 😂
Of all the channels doing a "first impression" of this map, I refrained from them all until this one. This is what I have been waiting for. My first look will also be your first look. Wouldn't have it any other way
Get well soon.
I wish you a speedy and complete recovery.
First base is TU95, mig 29/35 and Su 33 /35
Holy Toledo I may have to ship my Yamaha wr250r over to Norway and do some Moto camping😊
Kiruna, my old home town! And the new Mach loop goes past Sweden's tallest mountain at 51:27
All those surface details are very important when you do those King of the Hill battles with tanks and Hueys and such.
Hope you are doing okay Cap! Wishing you the best Mate!!
Sorry to hear you are unwell again Cap. Hope you work through it again soon. Best wishes from New Zealand.
Many prayers to you Cap, may you have a uncomplicated recovery❤️🙏
I’m with yall. I like the map. I haven’t been able to download it since being on a work trip. But I live through yall this week.
20:24 They most certainly are not "god" dams.
Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week.
Anyway, get well soon, Cap.
I hope you're not away for too long. I enjoy the interactions between you and the boys.
As a lifelong flight simulator fan, Orbix has been a giant in maps and mods. They’ll take a city from MSFS and detail it out to the max. Superb maps!
Sending best wishes and thank you so so much for all the dedication you send out to the world :)
I hope you get the care you need and wish you a speedy recovery!
get well soon!
nice map... looking forward to fly through the fjords.
Finland, Finland, Finland
The country where I want to be
Pony trekking or camping or just watching T.V
Finland, Finland, Finland
It's the country for me
That's one pretty map with variety of landscapes. But sneaking up on S-400 in Muramsk will be really tough.
Neat map! I drove on a Finland road runway location heading to Helsinki from Rovaniemi Santa Clause village. Hope you get well soon Cap!
Hope you feel better soon, Cap! Best wishes!
Man! I was so worried ever since we had a Cap news many years ago, as the unmentionables really likes to do a comeback!
I do hope it will be eradicated and we can get Cap back!
So best of wishes to you Cap, you will be missed and we hope for a speedy return... And probably relearning the jet as you may have forgotten it all :D
PS, that submarine was a Delta class SSBN, a strange ballistic submarine with a humpback for the missiles.
I know that some of the V bombers were based in Norway for a time, my uncle was moved there from Manston
That’s one impressive map even at low terrain mapping, when it’s all been populated and active it’s going to be an absolute cracker, and a defo ingress mission.
Get well soon Cap. Love these videos.
I hope you get well CAP take some time off but not too much time you're a part of my everyday routine.
The sub at 13:14 is not a Typhoon class, whose sail is at the back. I think that sub is a Delta IV: It has a big icbm hump behind the sail and the twin propellers stick out far from the rudders.
As a Swede.. Sweden isn't that cold. It is pretty nice here.
Makes me wonder how far south you can fly in Sweden... if I could go " _I can see my home from here!_ "
Just bought the map today but alas it will not show in my module manager even though I have 2.9.1 already updated? Bardufoss in Northern Norway near Narvik and Tromso were used by the RAF harriers for winter exercises for many years. I remember well the Hangars actually built into the mountains. Can’t wait to taxi through that! Big huge hangers doors to keep the trolls in!
Cap - so sorry to hear you're feeling worse. It's definitely been apparent in recent videos that the stomach is really bothering you. Take some time for yourself and get healthy if you can. You and the GR have been putting out an incredible rate of content for, what, 7 years now? You've more than earned a break, particularly if you need to focus on your health. Take a sabbatical, get healthy and I'll look forward to whatever else you do next.
I mean I hope you'll continue making content - I watch it daily :). But I recently retired from a job I'd been doing too long, and it's a relief to have a break after so many years. A creative refresh. A chance to do something different for awhile. You might need that after so many years of the GR? Hoping you can find the right path for you, whatever it is next. Best wishes to get better, that's the most important thing!
Finland hosted the 1952 Summer Olympics, but hasn't hosted the Winter Olympics yet. The ski jumps you saw were probably at a training facilities for their Olympic team.
Best wishes Cap!
Best wishes, Cap.
Feel better cap! I hope the boys hold the fort down while you're gone
Hey! You flew over my house! I live in Kiruna. (The cityscape is a bitt dated, The new city center is on top of the gocart track you found)
We can finally simulate Tu-95 Bear intercepts.
Siberian meteorite 1908 at Tunguska, several thousand miles to the east.
Get well Cap, good video, gave me a much better idea of Kola map as it is now. I shall hold off and see if the promised updates do arrive when promised, before buying.
The mining is to get apatite for agricultural phosphorus. One of the towns is named Apatity.
Wishing you good health
Love this channel GUYS ❤❤❤
I love your films Cap, very sad to hear that you’re not well.
Best of luck with your health Cap!
P.S I always listen to the full briefing!
even in the low detail area in Norway it looks good enough for some fun Coldwar style NATO vs Warsaw pact missions
There should be the kuznetsov aircraft carrier
Hey Cap, get well soon! You are missed. YT isn't the same without you!
A lot of the air strips are duel use civil and military a bit like some strips in the Persian gulf.
@2:45 Bodo maybe there to protect Norway's Spaceport plus I think 140mi NNE is the landing spot for underwater hydrophones plus MAARSY (Middle Atmosphere Alomar Radar System).
The submarine in the floating drydock at 13:12 is Delta class if I'm not mistaken
Right
thx
Wishing Cap all the best from Canada. 😊
Geowizard did a straight line mission in Norway, just a tad south of Bodø. (walking in a straight line across the land,, and little by boat.) If you want to get an idea for how the landscape looks like on this map, I recommend checking that out.
I just want to see how things have changed over in Malmberget since I was there last. But I guess I'll catch up on that later on. ;)
No idea where they got that name "BAS 100" from. It's just called a Vuojärvi road base.
The Kalixfors "helicopter base" is an old 1940's airbase, shut down in the 1960's.
Banak air base/Lakselv airports was a QRF base for Norwegian F16s. To avoid provocation, no allied nato fast jets were allowed there(literally just 10 minute flight to the Russian border) when we got F35s, Banak become just a search and rescue helicopter base, as well as civilian.
