I have spent some time living in Egypt, spent most of my time living New Cairo. Cairo proper is absolutely massive and crowded and heck. The delta is quite lush, just driving from Cairo to Alexandria you can see so much farmland. The grow a whole lot or wheat, rice, other grains, mangoes, and other fruits. Cap, in regards to New Cairo, most of the city was built in the past 10-20 years, very young city. Also, rent each month in a compound in New Cairo which includes access to a communal pool for the compound is probably about 20-25k Egyptian pounds, which is about 500-650 British pounds at the time of writing, however the currency is currently crashing. That’s why there are so many pools, also because it gets super hot in the summer. The Egyptian Air Force consists mostly of F-16s with a few Mirage 2000s. The main reason the Sinai peninsula has nothing on it is because it’s closed off to the public in fear of terrorists and such, although you can drive around along the coast to a couple cities, but driving across that desert isn’t the best idea. Looking forward to watching this entire video, but that will have to be when I can't sleep and not when I should be working. Nice wall, I'm jealous! 😆 Thanks for the tour GR! This map is a must-have as far as I'm concerned, for the flight sim fun alone, not to mention all the potential scenarios.

Thank you for the review but there are some historical additions and corrections. The first major aerial action the area has seen was the Israel independence war (1947-1948). That involved spitfires, Avia-s199 (a Czechoslovakian bf-109) Mosquitos, P-51s, Dakotas, and more. In 1956 Israel was pushed by France and England to invade and take Sinai after Egypt took over the Suez channel from them. Some crazy operations like severing telephone lines by using the props, wings, and weights dangling from p-51s. The Whole of Sinai was taken by Isreal and then returned to be taken again in 1967 during the 6-day war. It remained Israeli through the attrition war (1967-1970) and Yom Kippur (1973) and has seen battles of F-4s, A-4, Mirage III Vs. mig17, mig19, and mig21. Sinay was returned to Egypt in 1980 after the peace agreement. Since then it has seen operations by F-15, f-16, Apache, and more. So historically it is probably one of the most versatile maps out there and a great addition to DCS. Kudos!
@@victorfinberg8595. Israel had its interests for various reasons (Tiran straits and insurgents' bases) but was reluctant to initiate a conflict. However, since Israel was dependent at the time politically and militarily on France and the UK, they couldn't easily refuse requests from France and there are documents from the french archives that show exactly that. But all this is not very relevant for DCS players.
I highly doubt MS devs would help with anything unless they got to take over the title completely. I agree with you though, a full world map would be amazing.
The 'crop circles' are actually just farms. You see the same thing in Arizona here in the US. In low water density areas, they have to use an 'irrigator' which is basically just a sprinkler system that is suspended up on a pipe that carries water from a well point in the center and then can run around in a circle
I don't know how many miles I've traveled. I flew from Spain to the U.S., then spent my whole life traveling all over the mainland. One of the biggest things I enjoy most about my life is the travel. I moved every year or two of my life. I feel bad for those who are born, raised, and live their whole life in 1 place.
Thank you so much for the preview. This map is just lovely and massive. I can see hundreds of hours and simulations being done. (LOST OF GROUND TARGETS, LOTS OF BOOM BOOM) There was a saying here in the states, JOIN THE NAVY, SEE THE WORLD, I say watch Grim Reapers videos and be educated and entertained at the same time. I mean what could be better. I would like to see more missions with Psycho Robot Cows as it sounds like something that may be used by terrorist from that area of the world.
According to the CIA World Factbook, Egypt's main agricultural exports are sugar cane and beets, wheat, maize, tomatoes, rice, potatoes, oranges, and onions. 26% of its labor force is in agriculture.
There's a video on tube on how they turned parts of their land that wasn't fertile at all into what it's today. They used to import a lot of their vegetables and fruits now they are one of the bigger exporters of it.
The Gaza strip is ruled by Hamas. Israel withdrew in 2005, and no longer has any territory there. The West Bank is split into three areas (A, B, and C) based on the Oslo Accords of the 1990s, where Area A is under both the civil and security control on the Palestinian Authority, Area B is under Palestinian civil control but security is handled by Israel, and Area C which is under Israeli control.
I do t know if they would have modeled it or not but the is a “knife in the dessert”. It’s a large memorial that’s alongside the suez on the Sinai side
Wow, this kinda takes me back. By "this", I mean "the world of data displayed in graphical format, and by "back" I mean to the 90-95 era when I worked for a major EDA (computer aided engineering) firm in design teams making the software that allowed peeps to design ICs and PCBs and visualize/analyze them little bits as they operated. While the displayed objects appear different, when zoomed out/up-high I can see the repetitious imaged of a bit-blt pattern of the desert and farm regions (the little patches of fields have a positional pattern to them... squint and you can see it). The buildings, while they make look unique, are various rotations of about 10-20 renderings, with height as a variable... its wild to begin to mentally construct how the computer terrascapers must have approached the task of creating all these spaces ... one wonders if they take visual data from gooble-maps and use the general themes (road direction, ground-cover-type (wild vs field vs urban) and have a program that populates areas with basic building blocks in an automated manner.. I cannot imagine doing all this geo-definition 'by hand'. It would be fascinating, to me, to learn how they do it at DCS. .nerdish behavior Thanks for the tour, Cap, et al Can't wait to see y'all blow it up !! ... dont spend all your damage-model points on a single building... there are so many objects you can crash into.
21:03 well We're a bit north of a 100 Million, more like 106, 107 not quite sure, and 25mil ish of them (including me) live in Cairo so yeah. 25:38 Well the backbone of the EAF is the F-16 most of them block-52, also, the Rafale was recently introduced along Mig-29m(odd yeah?). They also mainly rely on C-130s for transport, as for Helis, they have AH-64s CH-47s Mi-8/17 and a bunch of mi-35s. A weird mix of soviet and US inventory. Same is also true for all branches, for example standard issue Rifle is sig516 but other branches use the ak platform along arx-160 rifles... 26:33 About that, Egypt has approx. 118 Pyramids and the pyramid of Zoser being the oldest one. 31:06 by the Triangular building there is supposed to be Tahrir sq. which is one of the most important places in Egypt (two resolutions started there 2011 where we threw mubarak and another one in 2014 where we threw Mursi(More like a coup)), Also the Island on the right (Zamalek is way more dense than that). 34:04 So the Cloverfield thing is actually a Place called Madinty which is a sort of privately owned city, more like a huge gated community but isn't really gated. while the things on the right is what's called the new administrative capital (A very creative name) where everything is bound to be moved to there. And at 34:52 that is Capital airport which is an AFB that got a new runway and a terminal and is used as a passenger/cargo airport.
Just a travelogue for DCS. I did get shore leave in Karachi, Pakistan. Looks gray and depressing from the ground too. At least back then. Sea story about that place.
The best review so far ! Ok nice map but are you aware about Ground unit path finding Bs in cities ? So ok, you can strike buildings … but you gonna have a lot of headaches with ground units movements in Cairo so Helo convoy escort … not for now
Wow, amazing map! Reminds me of a Cities:Skylines build. Edit: (The gridded area in Alexandria is the start of a land-reclaim project. Much further advanced on Google Maps now).
Funny how Cap is surprised how green it is. That's why it was fought over longer than other countries are populated... Ancient Egypt was last ruled by actual Egyptians about 1000bce. After that it was (roughly, no guarantees) Nubia, Lybia, Assysria, Persia, Greece (Alexander) and Rome. Only rome dropped the cultural pretense and made it a normal (and VERY rich) province. Fun Pyramids fact: They were built very surprisingly early on, not later in Egyptian history. This is why Cleopatra (around 0) lived closer to the Moon Landings than the building of the pyramids. Which is objectively the most amazing historical fact ever. Also some conspiracy BS about aliens and stuff and how nothing is actually possible or achieved by humans alone....
You can definitely take a carrier through the Suez lol. Got the t-shirt. I saw many bullet riddled little structures but no real buildings along the shore.
Oh cool. I've been refreshing my Egyptian history as recently a new chamber has been discovered in the Great pyramid after following information from the Scan the Pyramids project. I urge anyone to look in to this if you've not heard of it, when not watching Grim Reapers that is.
@@powjj Ah Yeah, The good thing is they have less of an excuse not to look in to it now as this completely vindicates muon scanning technology. Many Egyptologists dismiss the detections as voids caused by slump in the infill of the pyramid structure however as a leyman everything I've read indicates that a large amount of morter was used in its construction, unlike later pyramids. I'm quite taken with Jean-Pierre Houdin's internal ramp theory. In his second iteration of his theory that takes in to account the scan pyramids data he proposes that the void above the Grand Gallery is a second Grand Gallery used to lift the massive 80+ tonnes kings chamber stones using a counterweight to balance them. I'm a little worried that Zahi Hawass stated that he thinks it's a weight relieving chamber that might be above a room that contains the body of Khufu. I find this a hugely unlikely proposition as the muon detectors that were placed in the Robbers tunnel and the original main entrance way would have detected a room in that position with an undoubted certainty if they detected the small chamber above it. Also, if this were so then that would mean that they interned Khufu right above the main entrance to the Pyramid about 10 to 15 meters from the outside of the Pyramid. I'm not familiar with a Pyramid or Mastaba that ever had the main burial in such a location. Oh well, he's the Egyptologist and I'm just some guy reading other peoples hard work. The thing about the Pyramids is that we are all free to speculate about them and I think that the builders would be quite happy to know that we still marvel at what they achieved in there time here on this Earth.
There's some talk on the DCS forum that 32Gb isn't really enough memory, using the Sinai map. You can mess with the page-file sizing, but... If you are in a big mission, using this map it probably will choke is the impression I am getting. I may wait to get this map until I have 64Gb installed.
Not only that, but the file size is going to choke a horse. North of 70 GB. I don't have enough HD space left to even download it. I have a new 2.4 TB drive coming, but it's gonna be a while before I can even download it.
Good to know about the 70+ GB SSD space required. It's such a pain ordering new memory two years after the initial build-out. If you think: "I'll never, ever need more than 32GB" then buy the 64 anyway... No wonder GS has no issues with the map since he is using 128GB memory...
I was wondering since you are using 32GB. Good to know. I will probably upgrade mine when I get the map. I still have a ways to go before I am proficient enough in DCS. :)
As usual, great video on an exciting map. But Romal got into Tunisia and Trubrook in a 10 miile strip. The SAS patrolled the Desert to the south of Suez, from Alexandrea, Cirio Egypt to Tunisiam & Morocco.
I’ve been through the Suez Canal 9 times on carriers. My understanding is it’s a million dollars per ship for passage. And I can attest it’s very tight when going through
Love your enthusiasm Cap; bet you had to go and have a little lie down after that. The map is quite stunning but it is missing one supremely important thing; lots and lots of BOOM BOOM!
The Suez was built by a French man, Ferdinand de Lesseps the same person that started the Panama Canal. But he was the man that got the United States involved with finishing the canal.

I noticed a tiny distortion in the map but you guys probably didn't notice because you were too busy flying... Well except for the end. he he. It's towards the bottom of the screen and about as thick as the map's line tool but it is clearly a distortion. If that is the only distortion then I say give the map makers a round of standing ovation because it would be difficult not to have at least a tiny distortion, especially rendering at the speeds of a rocket plane in flight.
What you call crop circles are irrigated crop fields, which can be found world wide. The sprinklers are on wheels and they irrigated pipe pivots on a point this causing the circular fields.
Sorry. Meant nation wide not world wide. If you fly across the USA you can look out and see these irrigated fields from coast to coast particularly in the southeast in Georgia, Alabama, etc to the Midwest in Indiana, Illinois, Iowa etc to the west coast in California. Hope that helps a bit.
Alot of pyramids are distributed all over country ..but most famous are 3 in giza platue..named after 3 kings khofa, khafra , mankawrah...with khofo pyramid the highest approx 140 meters up ....valley of kings is in the other end of Egypt far south..that's where different burial structures- not pyramids- but underneath mega tomps
The second set of pyramid from the great pyramid of giza. I think it's called the step pyramid of Djoser . The oldest in Egypt. And caps right. The giza pyramid were made to look like the orions belt. In each pyramid had small tunnel aiming at the constellation. so that the pharaoh soul would go there. The valley of the Kings are in luxor. There's no pyramids . Temple like buildings , burial mounds and caves. Am half way through your map when writing this. But haven't seen the temple of Karnak. Yet. Good map so far. 👍😊

Nice tour, thank you!
Heli battles? Absolutely. Great content as always!
Incredible map! Incredible job you guys did showing it's glory. Looking forward to experiencing this in my Aero 😉
Okay I wasn’t excited about this map, AT ALL. But now I can’t wait for it to come out. This is by FAAAAAR the best, most detailed map DCS will have on offer. It actually has full sized cities and points of interest. Incredible work
and it's set in an area that had a crapton of action in jets. Also rife for fictional scenarios.
Can't wait to see the new cityscape air racing courses that you will be coming up with Cap. 😊
Yup
Nice tour. Breathtaking commentary. Beautiful boys.
Hey Caphotep! :) Theres a helluva Starwars canyon run at the top center of the map. The road the Hebrews took in the exodus.Through the Sinai Mountains (highway from Newabaa to Coloured Canyon)
thx
Cap you deserve at least a 5ft pyramid. Simba you deserve at least 500ft.
The stepped pyramid, the bent pyramid are the two to the side of Giza.
Anyway I've liked and commented of course!
5ft works for me.
Put your GR HQ next to The Pyramids!😆👍
35:05 a fine line between stupid and brilliant! Brilliant flying Simba!👍👍
37:32 lmao I wonder if you disturbed their prayers😆👍
51:49 lol F-15D Baz ;)
54:44 Helicopter Request Please-- UH-1H, SA342 Gazelle, UH-60 Black Hawk, and AH-64 Apache VS Mi-8, Mi-17, Mi-24 Hind, and Ka-50 Black Shark!🙏
That looks sooo good ! Day 1 purchase for sure !
Oh neat. Fantastic work!
For fun, please make a video about sweden invading kaliningrad!!!
I can't wait for the new recreation of Operation Focus.
Love the steady uploads 🎉
Very beautiful map. I loved the tour as well!
Kudos!
good summary, except that claiming "Israel was pushed to invade Sinai in 1956" is a bit of a stretch. actually, a lot of a stretch
Thanks!
Wow, the map looks amazing, and yep, i love sim city, still to this day. Brings me back to my Amiga 500 days
Eagle Dynamics needs to get in touch with MS2020 developers and get the entire world meshed.
I feel bad for those who are born, raised, and live their whole life in 1 place.
beautiful demonstration of the new map
Interesting What-Ifs, incredible mass battles and now sightseeing. I've been feeling extra-valued as a viewer lately 😊👍
The wee ponds were probably fish farms, and the round crops are pivot irrigation, irrigates a roud section.
Thank you so much for the preview. This map is just lovely and massive. I can see hundreds of hours and simulations being done. (LOST OF GROUND TARGETS, LOTS OF BOOM BOOM)
There was a saying here in the states, JOIN THE NAVY, SEE THE WORLD, I say watch Grim Reapers videos and be educated and entertained at the same time. I mean what could be better.
I would like to see more missions with Psycho Robot Cows as it sounds like something that may be used by terrorist from that area of the world.
Sweet move going though the has. Champion move man.
I looked up the big pond things in Alexandria on google maps and it is the Maryout company fish farms
It would be fascinating, to me, to learn how they do it at DCS.
.nerdish behavior
Thanks for the tour, Cap, et al
Can't wait to see y'all blow it up !! ... dont spend all your damage-model points on a single building... there are so many objects you can crash into.
The giant chimney in Tel Aviv is the Old Port in North Tel Aviv! And its really accurate....they did a great job
Amazing thanks!
And Ka-52s and after the cancellation of the Su-35 deal EAF will get either the Typhoon or F-15
The rectangle pattern west of Alexandria (in the water) are Fish Farms!!
Cap, flying over Cairo. "Wow, look at that, a building, oh look, another building" 😅
Fantastic map, I love just flying around and looking at stuff.
The "Grid" is called the Maryout Company Fish Farms
thx
Perhaps the crop circles might be a super pleshy plush international radio surveillance?😂
Great map, good tour!
Interesting to know how they do the Dead Sea, with an elevation below zero? (Given that all of DCSs is water at elevation zero)
The big void they won't look into is more interested above the grand gallery. Take a look into that too
@@powjj Ah Yeah, The good thing is they have less of an excuse not to look in to it now as this completely vindicates muon scanning technology.
@@powjj that's what he's talking about.
Those "crop circles" look like giant center pivot irrigation fields.
Blowing up the sewage plant needs to be included in a Sunday fun day mission.
Sunday fun day mission idea! Who can hit one of those pools with the most unguided bombs!!!
No wonder GS has no issues with the map since he is using 128GB memory...
lol I remember when 32GB was considered overkill!
I certainly didn;t have an probs, but there were no units on the map obviously.
I was wondering since you are using 32GB. Good to know. I will probably upgrade mine when I get the map. I still have a ways to go before I am proficient enough in DCS. :)
Love Betty’s Geopolitical Hotpot.
Notice the roofs of all the high risers! Definitely another step up from Dubai and Beirut.
As usual, great video on an exciting map. But Romal got into Tunisia and Trubrook in a 10 miile strip. The SAS patrolled the Desert to the south of Suez, from Alexandrea, Cirio
Egypt to Tunisiam & Morocco.
The crop circles are from the irrigation systems, they are on wheels and water in circles. “It’s a thing”.
I’ve been through the Suez Canal 9 times on carriers. My understanding is it’s a million dollars per ship for passage. And I can attest it’s very tight when going through
Seriously impressive map, love the commentary 👍🏻
Love your enthusiasm Cap; bet you had to go and have a little lie down after that. The map is quite stunning but it is missing one supremely important thing; lots and lots of BOOM BOOM!
One thing is clear: ED really likes desert environments.
Circles are Centre-pivot irrigation
for cap: like a giant propeller but for watering plants.
I get it now! thx
The Suez was built by a French man, Ferdinand de Lesseps the same person that started the Panama Canal. But he was the man that got the United States involved with finishing the canal.
by just one man? must have been superhuman
thx
Crazy how things happen sometimes. I just watched this last night and heard Simba talking about Petra (which I've never heard of). Tonight I turn on the Science Channel and guess what's on??? "The Lost Treasures of Petra"...Exploring the historic city of Petra (2014). WOW! 😳... It was at the end of the show when I tuned in, so I'll watch the repeat at work in a few hours. Really looking forward to this awesome map!
Looks like it just missed Wadi abu Shihat, down near the dog-leg in the Nile at Qena.
thx
i didnt even see it all yet, but 6 minutes it - love it so far! amazing work and it's just the intro on the map... amazing! I'm from Israel myself so happy to share info but this is highly detailed!
Tel aviv capital of israel? xD i heard they were changing or wanting to but i think its still jerusalem i wonder what the map makers debate about haha
gonna keep watching :D
Please please a beautiful helicopter battle, or even how would grim reapers defend the area against egypt jordon and seria.
Welcome to pivot irrigation (the crop circles)
Interesting that this map isn't more popular at the moment
I've been through the Suez canal on the Enterprise. It was weird.
The Official Simba Fan Club all agree this video is excellent. Informative, well narrated piloting, and SIMBA WIMBA KUN as a wingman. I'm in heaven. Some of our team had fathers stationed in this area of the world at a certain point in time. We all express our deep gratitude to our veterans and our active duty. Off we go, into the wild blue yonder... EDIT: AGM-183 ARRW WHEN!
There are circles like these in Spain..and Australia...and maybe New Zealand
I noticed a tiny distortion in the map but you guys probably didn't notice because you were too busy flying... Well except for the end. he he. It's towards the bottom of the screen and about as thick as the map's line tool but it is clearly a distortion. If that is the only distortion then I say give the map makers a round of standing ovation because it would be difficult not to have at least a tiny distortion, especially rendering at the speeds of a rocket plane in flight.
Looks like fun... sandbox.
Alot of pyramids are distributed all over country ..but most famous are 3 in giza platue..named after 3 kings khofa, khafra , mankawrah...with khofo pyramid the highest approx 140 meters up ....valley of kings is in the other end of Egypt far south..that's where different burial structures- not pyramids- but underneath mega tomps
did you see the valley of the crescent moon? oh wait, that may have been a movie......
We usually didn't have have Marines in fighting positions on the flight deck.
wow, can you imagine doing combined arms in all those cities?
