S-125 can fire multiple missiles at a time. At a single target only, however. Don't know why this is moddeled incorectly. But, it was standard practice for us to engage every target with two missiles in 1999. Was it called dual channel guidance, or guidance via two channels. Something like that, translations are rough, and so is my English.
This was VERY comprehensive! Side-by-side comparison was extremely understandable. Using the cows for a size reference and driving around in the little GAZ was great. I could almost smell the dry grass, diesel and rocket exhaust! ADA. If it flys it dies!
Excuse me, one additional remark. Just try to imagine the situation back then: the Soviet Union was much poorer than the US and had a clear lag in terms of electronics. By the time the US and UK used integrated circuits in their missiles, the USSR still had to work with vacuum tubes. This was not because soviet engineers were not good enough. In terms of knowledge there was no difference, but the soviet industry could not produce high-tech with consistent quality and in the required quantity. Some production batches of the same piece of equipment were good, others were disaster. So the soviet engineers had to achieve the same efficiency than their NATO colleagues, but using a one generation earlier electronics. And they almost did it. That is why these engineers behind these systems deserve the respect of our generation.
a little different, the backlog in electronics in the USSR was 5 years, this is actually not much. The fact is that the USSR was waiting for the US attack, which means it must withstand the first strike of an atomic weapon. At that moment, neither the USSR nor the United States had solid-state electronics that could withstand the electromagnetic pulse of a nuclear explosion. But this impulse was well withstood by lamp equipment, so the army adhered to lamp circuits to the last. I will shock you, but I personally saw equipment on ships, including logic circuits made on pneumatics. These circuits did not respond to nuclear explosions at all.
@@worldoftancraft what topic are you interested in? Lamp technology in the army of the USSR? Pneumatic logic? Backlog of the USSR in radio electronics?
@@championknife Thx, but you did not shock me. I am aware of the resilience of such old technologies to EMP. Great video cap! Love the jeep perspective! The tests as well. This is a great guide to Russian/soviet Sams, there are just so many I never know how much I should worry. Now I do.
Basically my favorite video ever here. Russian air defense has become a love of mine. I read somewhere about the Russians having to concentrate on surface to air defense because there was no possible way to compete with American fighter jet technology due to costs mainly. The Russians are able to build large quantities of these air defense systems for much less money. Also, systems like the pantsir and other SPAAGs can double as anti-infantry/armor weapons. Nothing like 23mm cannons being fired at some poor souls. Unfortunately I have been able to see this done on many occasions with the whole mounting of 23mm cannons on beautiful Hiluxes in the middle east. Thanks for this video. I dont think as much info is out there about the chinese capabilities but hopefully in the future it will be readily available.
It's true that Russia's AA systems are unable to compete w/ American jet technology that's why there are multitudes of AA systems to compensate for it. An example would be the S400, in many videos it's always seen alone and vulnerable to the F-35. In reality, there are different AA systems present to support the S400.
I will exclude American stealth aircraft from the conversation because they can easily defeat and penetrate Russian airspace unseen, so I will consider 4th gen aircraft only; Many of America's 4th generation aircraft can be fitted to conduct electronic warfare and anti-radiation combat missions. What that means is there will be a swarm of American jets at the front of a formation all fitted with equipment to jam any kind of ground radar, and then behind them is the second swarm of jets fitted with missiles that will lock onto any source of radar coming from the ground. These are called HARM missiles, and America's harm missiles are capable of tracking and destroying surface to air targets even after their radar is deactivated. So the old tactic of fire and then turn your radar off is completely ineffective against American weapons.

@@mikegarwood8680 Only USAF SAM was Bomarc. The fact that the USAF couldn't use their own SAM's to defend their own Airfields in Europe during the Cold War resulted the USAF buying Rapier and getting the RAF and Turkish to operate it for them in bases in the UK and Turkey.
Is there any rhyme or reason to the us designations? We went from SA-9 and SA-13 IR sites to SA-10. It seemed like they would be numbered chronically until this point.
13:30 Another reason for the bigger warheads on the earlier Cold War-era missiles was the expectation that they’d primarily be used on strategic nuclear bombers at high altitude. In the thin air at 50k feet you need a larger warhead in order to create an effective blast wave, and obviously a huge, multi-engined plane like a B-52 can take a lot more punishment than a single-engine fighter.
Excellent video! I learned a LOT from this about the set ups! Is there a link to the chart you show at the 3:35 mark? I'd like to put that in my kneeboard! Thanks!!
Do be aware, the gripen is fine, but it is still a last gen fighter. Saab has a lot of advertisements etc up, but it's nothing compared to any of the modern stealth multirole/fighter jets out there
As a kid in cadets, I got to experience the UK optical Rapier system at RAF Honnington. We got to play around with a simulated attack and had to optically track the enemy jet. It was great fun but really difficult! I got a 50% hit rate which is apparently good!
A serbian SAM battery commander shot down a stealth F-117 with a 1960's russian system. But he was very crafty, and had spotters telling him when the F-117's were coming and in roughly what course. That way he could surprise them with a short sharp radar lock and launch, relocating soon afterwards. On the other end of the extreme, was a guy who flew a single engine cessna into the USSR and landed it in red square.
Nope, that was not the case. Soon will be video about the S-125 on mine channel and soon comes about the S-125 vs F-117 which clears every ULs about the case.
To the SA9. Don’t think you can launch a barrage of these. How can an IR missile barrage function without subsequent missiles tracking on previously fired missiles?
on the SA-2: it has only one guidance channel so it can only guide missiles towards *one target at once*, though it can guide up to 3 missiles to the *same target* simultaneously in a salvo.
This just took RCS and just weaponry knowledge in general to a whole new level. Image having 5 aircraft set up on a AF and just drove around to each on your hummer pit on a clinic about what they are capable of

We already reviewed the thrust vectoring python when the released it with their f-16 mod but if there are any changes we will be happy to take a look
Love this video for its explanation between models. Obviously the caps and lims aren't going to be accurate because it's a game and based of unclassified info I'm sure, but still liked it. A NATO video would be awesome to pair this with!
awesome video cap, very entertaining. Would like to see this format but with USAF missiles
Actually land AA is under the Army, much to the AF's displeasure.
@@richardvernon317 Didn't USAF offer the Army all the A-10's for the Patriot?
My follow up question for 10: can you rerun this with the boys carrying anti radiation missiles allowing some kind of retaliation?
Thanks!!
just screen shot it and make a personal copy. I did
Are those anti-aircraft cows? or are they part of the crew?
Great stuff. I also concur on a Sunday funday who can reach the site challenge!
I like the way some of the missiles come close in warhead size to harpoon!
Any reason the cows are in Russian field camo?
Does DCS support the JAS-39 Gripen E? I would love to see a video on it. I've heard so much about it being the most advanced fighter.
C model only
Do be aware, the gripen is fine, but it is still a last gen fighter.
I got a 50% hit rate which is apparently good!
cool
15:04: "Its a one piece missile..."
"Stage" is the term you're looking for.
50:19: Not fair- there aren't enough faces for them to win.
It's two stage but one piece since the empty booster motor becomes the combustion chamber for the ramjet.
While I have taken a cursory look at the game, I have never played DCS. The detail is pretty amazing and the mechanics seem to be fairly solid.
Diferent heat signature. Missiles are probably designed not to home in on there own signatures. Not that hard to do.
IR missiles have been image recognition guidance since the 70s.
on the SA-2: it has only one guidance channel so it can only guide missiles towards *one target at once*, though it can guide up to 3 missiles to the *same target* simultaneously in a salvo.
Its 3 guidance channels and one target channel to be precise.
Thank you so much
I love cows. Such a gentle, wise-eyed creature. Seriously beautiful animals. It's like a horse, but fat. Love it!
Great video guys.
This just took RCS and just weaponry knowledge in general to a whole new level. Image having 5 aircraft set up on a AF and just drove around to each on your hummer pit on a clinic about what they are capable of
Impressive video! I've enjoyed every second! But how accurate this compairing to the performance for the real deal?
The video sadly is filled with lost of inaccurate info.
If you are interested in SAMs and their real performance with numbers check this video series.

The scenarios you guys setup are excellent! That was a lot of fun just watching! You never explained about 'notching' ?
Link in video description.
I'm 38 mins in... And I'm seriously hoping for a American, UK, and other countries/NATO Sam sites video.
Edit: you ABSOLUTELY have to make this a regular competition!! I BEG YOU!
cool
@@grimreapers I think that your guys deserve a prize as well... If possible.. I would be more than happy to donate to a prize pool...
