I know you mentioned this, but I want to just emphasize the importance of being prepared in shiny hunts. That's how I failed my shiny kyurem! Always try and carry a masterball if it's a legendary, and always have a strong team. No one wants to reclaim a shiny and definitely if it was a tedious hunt to begin with!

I think it's funny that I'm watching this video and I have been shiny hunting for probably around a decade at this point lol. This is a really good video And frankly not what I expected it to be. I appreciate that you actually talked about the mindset and things to do, rather than just telling people the basics and what shinies are and how to hunt them. Also I very much agree with your statement at the beginning of the video, it is a very weird feeling seeing shiny hunting go from this hypernice community and hobby. To essentially one of the cornerstones of pokémon in general, it's weird. Like I'm happy that more people can enjoy this thing that I love so much, and the more attention that it gets the more the actual pokémon company cares about shiny pokémon which is great cuz I've been obsessed with them since I was like 10. But also it's bittersweet, it doesn't feel like my special little hobby anymore. It's not this niche little RUclips community where people are pointing webcams at their DS as much anymore. There are so many shiny hunting RUclipsrs with hundreds of thousands of subscribers, there's millions of posts online, there's constant discussion and even stuff like RNG manipulation is becoming more mainstream. It feels like when a band you love finally gets popular, you're so happy that this thing you really care about is finally getting recognition and being seen as something to genuinely appreciate. But it feels like you're almost losing a part of yourself, giving up a part of your identity that was More unique and almost yours, and letting it expand to something much bigger than you. I don't know if this is too deep for talking about shiny pokémon. But it's just a weird feeling
the rubber band trick was not known to me, i just started full odds hunting with your last video, when i was a kid when HG/SS just came out my brother and i had several shinies in those games, my first was a slowbro in the safari zone, then in 2012-2013ish i learned about shiny hunting and wanted to go for chikorita, and got tododile in under a couple hours, and then never played HGSS after completing that game file. a few days after the kyurem video dropped, probably 10 years or more since i played HGSS i spent almost 200 CAD on a soul silver copy, after 500ish resets i had a shiny chikorita, i did 4 hours the first night, then TEN MINUTES the next morning. i was ecstatic. a week later i got heartgold because i found it such a fun experience and in FOUR resets (1 minute 34 seconds) i had ANOTHER shiny chikorita (then after being sad the hunt didnt go on longer did random encounters the first route for hoothoot and got one after 134 encounters/47 minutes) i just bought a SECOND heart gold copy yesterday and an extra dsi so i can double hunt and for 2 hours i was swapping each in my hands to do the resets the rubber bands are gonna make this so much more effective, i just hopefully wont get a third chikorita LOL (though i wont complain if/when i do)
I was watching this video to try and keep motivation to shiny hunt Rayquaza on BDSP, and not even halfway through, just before 7:36 was when I got it. That was also my first ever authentic shiny legendary by soft resetting. I know you didn't really help that Ray show up, but I'd still like to thank you
i tried shiny hunting when i was a kid and did NOT have the patience for :( today as an adult i tried to repurchase a DS and some games! (diamond, b2, and ss!) --- i still hadnt found a shiny yet, but knowing that people still upload shinyh hunting stuff this time is so fun!! i cant wait to find my first hunted shiny

And for the time of day, I usually hunt on the weekend, but now that bank is being threatened of a shutdown in the next 2 years, I have a timer. It's not ideal but it's definitely pushing me to hunt! I really love this video a lot; as someone who watches content creators a lot to fuel my own drive to continue my own hunts, I really appreciate the growing shiny hunting community. Just a few days ago I actually finished my Shiny Giratina hunt in Pokemon Platinum that I had been working on for over half a year and it just feels so gratifying to finally have my first full-odds shiny hunt completed. I know I'll be doing many more in the future! c:

As a hunter, I can definitively say you should try to immunise your team when it comes to hunting particularly strong Pokémon, like Legendaries. Shedinja is often a good option for this, as it also has False Swipe, but simply walling their offence can work too. I had a low level Sableye when I was going for Arceus, simply because it has the potential to easily take out your actual hunting team, and Sableye happens to be completely immune to Future Sight and Hyper Beam. If you expect a catch to take a while, it might be a good idea to try and minimise the risk. Currently, I have a Shedinja while I go for Dialga in Platinum, though that’s on break. With that Arceus hunt, I actually panicked when I eventually found it, and it ended up reaching a point where it was about to struggle to death (already using the move, from full health because Recover). Luckily a Timer Ball worked right towards the end, otherwise I would probably have given up. (400 hours on Arceus alone). Do try to have the Master Ball as backup, I didn’t because I was fully unprepared, no thanks to a certain random Shiny Weezing, and I wasn’t willing to fail it. Lastly, try a few test catches and use Catch Rate Calculators. This can do wonders when it comes to figuring out how you’re going to go about catching the Shiny when you DO find it.
Yes, great suggestion. Shedinja is a great Pokémon to bring for shinies that cannot hit it. Also, test runs are always recommended! I do that with every one of my hunts!
@@Anthmags72so I wanted to give a quick update on my Dialga hunt: I found it. Full Odds in Platinum. It wasn’t too far into when I started for the day either, and I am super happy about it. Not only that, but I also found Giratina in BDSP (super quickly in comparison to my Arceus, thankfully), and am currently on Palkia in USUM. I WOULD have shifted to Palkia regardless if I didn’t catch it that day, but I guess I get to have the Spooky Shiny for Halloween.
Thank you for the tips! I watched your other video about hunting a shiny Kyurem and now I'm invested in the wonders of shiny hunting, lol. I'm also thinking of trying to catch a shiny Kyurem (in BW), but since I restarted my save I'm currently nowhere near the postgame. I think I'll try my hand at catching a shiny Yamask or Cofagrigus instead!
For anyone checking out his channel these are great tips. I would also suggest that if you want to hunt in Gens 3-7 you might wanna jump on that soon. The bridge between gens is on borrowed time. If you have the Poke Bank or have a friend with Poke bank its supposed to continue working after april of 2024 for now but its borrowed time. They could shut down bank and break the only bridge to move mons to the newest gens.

Man, I had tried a Kyurem hunt back in 2021 but gave up. After seeing your video on it a few days ago (late, I know.) It inspired me to pick up the hunt again. Currently 829 resets and counting whenever I can find the time. Gotta thank you for the tips that will definitely help me not go insane!

Tip for anyone hunting in an area in gen 2 with fleeing Pokemon in GSC: Do some catch calc with a level Ball! I found that by having a Pokemon that's at least level 10, a level Ball will garunteed the catch of a Teddiursa that's level 4 in Dark Cave. Highly recommend it

I saw your Kyurem video a while back and kind of forgot about it, but the Kartana video brought me right back! Once I get past rewatching various videos by Absolblogspokemon (also pretty cool to see them mentioned in the video) I'll be sure to rewatch the Kartana and Nihilego videos while I hunt for Pheromosa! I haven't updated you guys in a month lmao SO BASICALLY: I've been kinda on and off hutning it, so I haven't been doing much, I'm almost 33 hours deep, and I'm over odds at 5621 encounters! Once I reached odds, I kinda stopped hunting a bit, might get back on it soon

literally the whole reason I bought bdsp was to shiny hunt some of the legendry's, and thats just what I did, the moment I got access to palkia, I started shiny hunting. 6 months later the pink striped water dragon appeared after 2176 resets, and it felt amazing, so I decided I wanted to do another hunt like that, so I decided on giratina. just 4 days later at 726 resets the blue spiked eel appeared, and yet again I wanted to do another hunt, but for rayquaza this time, so I did hours of preparing to be able to shiny hunt it, spending hours getting mysterious shard, and catching the necessary legendry's to unlock rayquaza, and 2 days later at a jaw dropping 250 resets, the black tapeworm appeared, and again I got cocky, so I got some more mysterious shards, and started my hunt for mewtwo. my mewtwo hunt is ongoing as of writing this comment, and im at 641 resets going strong! :D
im a master shiny breeder... been doing this since 2012 when bw2 came out. The only thing I can tell to people that wants to shiny hunt, is to have pantience. Ive been trying to hatch a perfect 5iv competitive shiny scorbunny for some time now, and after 21 hatched shinnies with not so perfect iv spread, im still grinding. Aventually ill get it.
im currently doing a shiny hunt for honedge in y rn, i'll definitely try to remember these tricks for the next hunt i do! i've already tried to shiny hunt a few times, with varying success, so these will probably be very helpful for me :D
I want to clarify something on the rubber bands: No, it won't harm your system, but if you leave it on without taking it off, it can mess with your LR buttons to where they won't register when they're pressed, so you'll have to open your system to fix it. If you take a break, take it off, if you're done for the day, take it off. I've experienced this issue firsthand with a couple of systems.

These are some good tips, I’d definitely agree with doing something else while hunting. I rarely hunt without doing that. But another tip I figure I should add. Don’t feel like your cheating for using methods like charm, chain fishing, or sandwiches. Your value of your shiny comes from you alone. So if you haven’t got much time, no need to full odds it for it to ‘count’ do whatever works for you. Watching things whilst hunting also given me good name ideas or just memories. Like, I remember Welcome to Eden pretty much purely because I found shiny Celebi in what I’m pretty sure was the final episode. Or watching through Inscryption while hunting (Garbodor or Kyurem, not entirely sure which as they were my first hunts).
Yes that is a very great piece of advice. Often while surfing the internet, one can feel like their shinies aren't as cool as the other people's hunts and that simply ain't true.
Just came back to say that I finally got my shiny ho oh. I took about 1700 srs. I got it while watching maximum overdrive. But your tip with the tape made it much more bearable, thank you.
I love shiny hunting but i only have gen 8 and 9 and i was thinking about buying a ds lite with pokemon emerald or black 2 (if i find any that wotn cost me my liver) so that is a very helpful video thx man
ive been trying to finish oras with a full team of shinies for the hall of fame screenshot lmao... i got a shiny mudkip (prob shoudlve gone for trecko but oh well) and a shiny ralts (93 dexnav encounters!!) and then my luck ran dry. 8000 encounters for a single phase (going for roselia, got an oddish instead) so i switched to masuda, hit 683 encounters and nothing so then i met up with someone from the internet irl to get the eon ticket via streetpass for a latios hunt... i got like 2900 RAs in an got demotivated... i might go back to finish that now though after watching this video! your shiny kureum vid actually got me into this playthrough in the first place lol
My biggest accomplishment in my shiny hunting history is a legit shiny feebas in OG Sapphire. Iv done multiple old school full odds hunts (1/8192)but the feebas was second to longest hunt at about a 9 month span. 1st was Rayquaza for about a year and a half, then I quit hunting it on gen 4 and went to gen 3 and got it in 3days.😅
Excellent video! Always enjoyable. Currently I'm soft resetting for a shiny snivy and yeah, after nearly 2 months plus a break over lent, I'm sure hoping it shines soon. Personally I view it as "shiny hunt in the background while doing other stuff" I actually don't mind the kind of resets where you wait for a cutscene and Click once or twice like legendaries. Its constantly clicking through dialogue I hate.

It's so funny you pit up alpha sapphire. I thinks that's the best games for my generation to hunt in. People who are as old as pokemon. Gen 4 and below is nostalgic for me so I get tha old pokemon fee but alot of modern convinces of modern pokemon in 3d. This the game I currently shunt in and started making shorts vlogging my hunts!
I feel like this ties to your tip of “try new methods”. When playing games with lower odds/no shiny charm it’s good for making the shiny more meaningful ,and rare. Do this if you get bored of typical shinies ,and want a challenge/special shiny in some way.
One thing I never understand is counting encounters I feel it slows me down having to increase a counter and gets me out if rhythm. I also hate seeing high numbers. Like you mentioned seeing a hunt that goes way over just fills me with dread and counting encounters to me is a remind of the tedious waiting game that shiny hunting can be
I just got back into shiny hunting and got a shiny poipole at 705, im thinking of doing more SR hunts in oras and transfering my exclusives to UM to hunt stuff like kyruem or rayquaza
Another tip:Please,if there's any way to increase your odds,just do it.If you hear that your fav poketuber only hunts at full odds(SupremeRK9s),please,don't pick up the same habbit.Always hunting at full odds is draining and try your best to avoid it and only do it when you don't have any other choice(Shaymin in BDSP for example)
That’s good and all, but some people like their shinies being found at their full odds level, no boost. Feels more rewarding for me at least. Got my spirtitomb after 8815 encounters and took months but I was so happy
@@sourlemon1002all shiny no matter if they are boosted or full odds have the same value. They are always shiny no matter what and I don't understand why ppl hating on a boosted shiny. If you like to waste your life by sitting in a room to reset for more than 10k times then good it's your choice because I've been in that situation before already. I have an experience of hunting 1/8192 shiny from gen 2 to gen 5 and those might be fun when you finally got it but the process is like a waste of time and way too long. So when they make the odds 1/4096 starting 3ds era, I've decided shiny hunting in these games and it didn't disappoint me as it became more comfortable and manageable.

Hey everyone now I know a lot of people like to track there shiny hunts by doing a counter. I normal do the same but doing it can make you feel very angry so if you feel that way just ignore the counter then just calculate the average per encounter per second after you find it. I know shiny hunting can be hard but don’t lose hope you got this
I've been shiny hunting Groudon in Soul Silver, after managing Kyogre in Heart Gold (espeon synchronise failed though), for yeeeears, I had been doing hard resets via a broken A and L bumper 3ds, but those are off to get repaired, so IDK my count now. I should really use a reset counter 😅😅
to share my first ( & second) shiny experience It was my second playthrough of Sun and i had just got to paniola ranch, i went though the yellow grass forgeting a repel and encountred a full odds shiny mudbray, i didnt quite register at first but he had a special place in my heart as my first ever shiny Now for my first intentional shiny Rowlet aka the bestest roundboi, it was my US save file and i decided to restart and hunt for rowlet because why the hell not, i wasnt counting my resets because i kept forgetting to press the sr button oops but i got him in literally a day and he is what really started my love for shiny hunting. i got a switch amd Sword for christmas (+ im getting legends arceus and scarlet on the 8th) and right now im filling out my dex to get the shiny charm then ill hunt an undecided pokemon and ill update this comment when i reach certain milestones )

I tried to shiny hunt a Scorbunny using a french Ditto in Sword, never got it. I've played pokemon for years, i have NEVER seen a shiny ever, except for that one event in Sw/Sh for a shiny Magicarp, which i caught, but i dont count it, honestly. Might try a Sableye if I get the Scorbunny
I’ve only ever found 2 shiny pokemon in my 13+ years of playing, first was in Diamond, my first pokemon game. It was a shiny Zubat but i didn’t know about the Up+Select+B you had to do to restart a game and couldn’t keep it. 2nd was when i recently started a new White playthrough after years of not playing, my first encounter was a shiny Patrat, got it down to the red and threw all 5 pokeballs, i ran out.
i have a question, im using the emulator "DraStic" on my phone, and im trying to shiny hunt suicune, this emulator lets me load previously saved data, i saved in front of suicune and i keep load the previous data, does that means that im shiny hunting the same Pokémon over and over, or it changes after each try? bcs i dont know if that count as soft reset or not... let me know if im wasting my time or not, thank you😅
I’m not the guy to ask about emulators but I'll try to help. It all depends on when the data of the Pokémon is loaded in that game. So in order to hunt for a shiny, you need to save before the data is loaded for an encounter so you can keep re-rolling the odds. Something you can try is catching Suicune twice and seeing if it has the same stats, nature, etc. that way you will know if it's a different Pokemon every reset. Hope that helps!
This is gonna sound unbelievable but with the charm my dynamax adventure hunt for kartana took 9 months over 16 hundred das and 9 phases funny that the phase and month number was the same
I think I'm at abot 1200-1500 srs with ho oh. I did it for about 3 hrs a while back during a road trip. I just added in around 300 because It was probably around that many. (I took a few breaks during g the trip)
Dang. I play Gen 3 - 5, so "Harvest" isn't really available to me. Fortunately, there are other ways to get infinite battles, such as a pokemon with fling, recycle and starts by holding the berry. Or Gen 3 simply tricking a leftovers to it. I actually want to go for Kyurem, because its a 3-in-1. Can't start yet since I need to prep some pokemon first, but I've got a team in mind. Usually that's up to the players discretion but you can check Bulbapedia or Pokémon Database for that specific Pokémon and check each area they spawn in and select which area they most commonly spawn.
So far i hunted Arceus Dialga Palkia Shaymin Darkrai Rayquaza Poipole Yveltal Celebi Ho-Oh Giratina And currently lugia. My longest was Arceus with 220 hours. It took me longer than darkrai shaymin giratina celebi Ho-Oh And dialga combined. Still worth it. Dialga giratina arceus shaymin and darkrai were all hunted on BD
Bruh I have been soft resetting for a shiny Jellicent in White 2 literally since 2017. I go through cycles of about a month or so on and off of hunting. This shiny hunt has ABSOLUTELY KILLED ME like I have been so close to giving up at times. Still going strong though, and have also caught other shinies in different games throughout the years. But goddamn I wish I had an encounter counter started at the beginning because 7 years for one Pokemon is INSANE… 😭😭😭😭😭
Guess I’ll have to find out the hard way. Going for a golet/golurk, couple hundred eggs in so far. Though I took a detour from that in pursuit of a shiny Deoxys, so it might be some time before I get back to that
Stay focused. Like I said, it's good to get into a rhythm but make sure you're paying attention before pressing any buttons. What I do sometimes if it's late or something is wait a few seconds before soft-resetting to make sure there’s no shiny sparkles or I don’t see/hear anything that is different. Double-takes also help out a lot with this.

Tip for masuda in SV: If you use multiple foreign ditto, you will get more eggs, so that’s always a plus..

the rubber band trick was not known to me, i just started full odds hunting with your last video, when i was a kid when HG/SS just came out my brother and i had several shinies in those games, my first was a slowbro in the safari zone, then in 2012-2013ish i learned about shiny hunting and wanted to go for chikorita, and got tododile in under a couple hours, and then never played HGSS after completing that game file.
a few days after the kyurem video dropped, probably 10 years or more since i played HGSS i spent almost 200 CAD on a soul silver copy, after 500ish resets i had a shiny chikorita, i did 4 hours the first night, then TEN MINUTES the next morning. i was ecstatic. a week later i got heartgold because i found it such a fun experience and in FOUR resets (1 minute 34 seconds) i had ANOTHER shiny chikorita (then after being sad the hunt didnt go on longer did random encounters the first route for hoothoot and got one after 134 encounters/47 minutes) i just bought a SECOND heart gold copy yesterday and an extra dsi so i can double hunt and for 2 hours i was swapping each in my hands to do the resets
the rubber bands are gonna make this so much more effective, i just hopefully wont get a third chikorita LOL (though i wont complain if/when i do)

And for the time of day, I usually hunt on the weekend, but now that bank is being threatened of a shutdown in the next 2 years, I have a timer. It's not ideal but it's definitely pushing me to hunt! I really love this video a lot; as someone who watches content creators a lot to fuel my own drive to continue my own hunts, I really appreciate the growing shiny hunting community. Just a few days ago I actually finished my Shiny Giratina hunt in Pokemon Platinum that I had been working on for over half a year and it just feels so gratifying to finally have my first full-odds shiny hunt completed. As a hunter, I can definitively say you should try to immunise your team when it comes to hunting particularly strong Pokémon, like Legendaries. Shedinja is often a good option for this, as it also has False Swipe, but simply walling their offence can work too.
I had a low level Sableye when I was going for Arceus, simply because it has the potential to easily take out your actual hunting team, and Sableye happens to be completely immune to Future Sight and Hyper Beam. If you expect a catch to take a while, it might be a good idea to try and minimise the risk. Currently, I have a Shedinja while I go for Dialga in Platinum, though that’s on break.
With that Arceus hunt, I actually panicked when I eventually found it, and it ended up reaching a point where it was about to struggle to death (already using the move, from full health because Recover). Luckily a Timer Ball worked right towards the end, otherwise I would probably have given up. (400 hours on Arceus alone). Do try to have the Master Ball as backup, I didn’t because I was fully unprepared, no thanks to a certain random Shiny Weezing, and I wasn’t willing to fail it.
Lastly, try a few test catches and use Catch Rate Calculators. This can do wonders when it comes to figuring out how you’re going to go about catching the Shiny when you DO find it.
Yes, great suggestion. Shedinja is a great Pokémon to bring for shinies that cannot hit it. Also, test runs are always recommended! I do that with every one of my hunts!
@@Anthmags72so I wanted to give a quick update on my Dialga hunt: I found it. Full Odds in Platinum.
It wasn’t too far into when I started for the day either, and I am super happy about it.
Not only that, but I also found Giratina in BDSP (super quickly in comparison to my Arceus, thankfully), and am currently on Palkia in USUM. I WOULD have shifted to Palkia regardless if I didn’t catch it that day, but I guess I get to have the Spooky Shiny for Halloween.

For anyone checking out his channel these are great tips. I would also suggest that if you want to hunt in Gens 3-7 you might wanna jump on that soon. The bridge between gens is on borrowed time. If you have the Poke Bank or have a friend with Poke bank its supposed to continue working after april of 2024 for now but its borrowed time. They could shut down bank and break the only bridge to move mons to the newest gens.

Tip for anyone hunting in an area in gen 2 with fleeing Pokemon in GSC:
Do some catch calc with a level Ball! I found that by having a Pokemon that's at least level 10, a level Ball will garunteed the catch of a Teddiursa that's level 4 in Dark Cave.

literally the whole reason I bought bdsp was to shiny hunt some of the legendry's, and thats just what I did, the moment I got access to palkia, I started shiny hunting. 6 months later the pink striped water dragon appeared after 2176 resets, and it felt amazing, so I decided I wanted to do another hunt like that, so I decided on giratina. just 4 days later at 726 resets the blue spiked eel appeared, and yet again I wanted to do another hunt, but for rayquaza this time, so I did hours of preparing to be able to shiny hunt it, spending hours getting mysterious shard, and catching the necessary legendry's to unlock rayquaza, and 2 days later at a jaw dropping 250 resets, the black tapeworm appeared, and again I got cocky, so I got some more mysterious shards, and started my hunt for mewtwo. my mewtwo hunt is ongoing as of writing this comment, and im at 641 resets going strong! :D

im a master shiny breeder... been doing this since 2012 when bw2 came out. The only thing I can tell to people that wants to shiny hunt, is to have pantience. Ive been trying to hatch a perfect 5iv competitive shiny scorbunny for some time now, and after 21 hatched shinnies with not so perfect iv spread, im still grinding. Aventually ill get it.
im currently doing a shiny hunt for honedge in y rn, i'll definitely try to remember these tricks for the next hunt i do!

I want to clarify something on the rubber bands: No, it won't harm your system, but if you leave it on without taking it off, it can mess with your LR buttons to where they won't register when they're pressed, so you'll have to open your system to fix it. If you take a break, take it off, if you're done for the day, take it off. I've experienced this issue firsthand with a couple of systems.

These are some good tips, I’d definitely agree with doing something else while hunting. I rarely hunt without doing that. But another tip I figure I should add.
Don’t feel like your cheating for using methods like charm, chain fishing, or sandwiches. Your value of your shiny comes from you alone. So if you haven’t got much time, no need to full odds it for it to ‘count’ do whatever
works for you.
Watching things whilst hunting also given me good name ideas or just memories.
Like, I remember Welcome to Eden pretty much purely because I found shiny Celebi in what I’m pretty sure was the final episode.
Or watching through Inscryption while hunting (Garbodor or Kyurem, not entirely sure which as they were my first hunts).
Yes that is a very great piece of advice. Often while surfing the internet, one can feel like their shinies aren't as cool as the other people's hunts and that simply ain't true.

ive been trying to finish oras with a full team of shinies for the hall of fame screenshot lmao... i got a shiny mudkip (prob shoudlve gone for trecko but oh well) and a shiny ralts (93 dexnav encounters!!) and then my luck ran dry. 8000 encounters for a single phase (going for roselia, got an oddish instead) so i switched to masuda, hit 683 encounters and nothing so then i met up with someone from the internet irl to get the eon ticket via streetpass for a latios hunt... i got like 2900 RAs in an got demotivated... i might go back to finish that now though after watching this video! your shiny kureum vid actually got me into this playthrough in the first place lol

My biggest accomplishment in my shiny hunting history is a legit shiny feebas in OG Sapphire. Iv done multiple old school full odds hunts (1/8192)but the feebas was second to longest hunt at about a 9 month span. 1st was Rayquaza for about a year and a half, then I quit hunting it on gen 4 and went to gen 3 and got it in 3days.😅

It's so funny you pit up alpha sapphire. I thinks that's the best games for my generation to hunt in. People who are as old as pokemon. Gen 4 and below is nostalgic for me so I get tha old pokemon fee but alot of modern convinces of modern pokemon in 3d. This the game I currently shunt in and started making shorts vlogging my hunts!
I feel like this ties to your tip of “try new methods”. When playing games with lower odds/no shiny charm it’s good for making the shiny more meaningful ,and rare. Do this if you get bored of typical shinies ,and want a challenge/special shiny in some way.

One thing I never understand is counting encounters I feel it slows me down having to increase a counter and gets me out if rhythm. I also hate seeing high numbers. Like you mentioned seeing a hunt that goes way over just fills me with dread and counting encounters to me is a remind of the tedious waiting game that shiny hunting can be
I use illuminate mons to increase encounters to help get the encounters faster

Another tip:Please,if there's any way to increase your odds,just do it.If you hear that your fav poketuber only hunts at full odds(SupremeRK9s),please,don't pick up the same habbit.Always hunting at full odds is draining and try your best to avoid it and only do it when you don't have any other choice(Shaymin in BDSP for example)

That’s good and all, but some people like their shinies being found at their full odds level, no boost. Feels more rewarding for me at least. Got my spirtitomb after 8815 encounters and took months but I was so happy
Fun fact: if you find a shiny pokemon at full odds, it’s literally the same as a shiny found at reduced odds.

If you like to waste your life by sitting in a room to reset for more than 10k times then good it's your choice because I've been in that situation before already.
I have an experience of hunting 1/8192 shiny from gen 2 to gen 5 and those might be fun when you finally got it but the process is like a waste of time and way too long. So when they make the odds 1/4096 starting 3ds era, I've decided shiny hunting in these games and it didn't disappoint me as it became more comfortable and manageable.

I normal do the same but doing it can make you feel very angry so if you feel that way just ignore the counter then just calculate the average per encounter per second after you find it. It was my second playthrough of Sun and i had just got to paniola ranch, i went though the yellow grass forgeting a repel and encountred a full odds shiny mudbray, i didnt quite register at first but he had a special place in my heart as my first ever shiny

Rowlet aka the bestest roundboi, it was my US save file and i decided to restart and hunt for rowlet because why the hell not, i wasnt counting my resets because i kept forgetting to press the sr button oops but i got him in literally a day and he is what really started my love for shiny hunting.
i got a switch amd Sword for christmas (+ im getting legends arceus and scarlet on the 8th) and right now im filling out my dex to get the shiny charm then ill hunt an undecided pokemon and ill update this comment when i reach certain milestones )

I tried to shiny hunt a Scorbunny using a french Ditto in Sword, never got it. I've played pokemon for years, i have NEVER seen a shiny ever, except for that one event in Sw/Sh for a shiny Magicarp, which i caught, but i dont count it, honestly. Might try a Sableye if I get the Scorbunny
Start small and work your way up
I’ve only ever found 2 shiny pokemon in my 13+ years of playing, first was in Diamond, my first pokemon game. It was a shiny Zubat but i didn’t know about the Up+Select+B you had to do to restart a game and couldn’t keep it. 2nd was when i recently started a new White playthrough after years of not playing, my first encounter was a shiny Patrat, got it down to the red and threw all 5 pokeballs, i ran out.
i have a question, im using the emulator "DraStic" on my phone, and im trying to shiny hunt suicune, this emulator lets me load previously saved data, i saved in front of suicune and i keep load the previous data, does that means that im shiny hunting the same Pokémon over and over, or it changes after each try? bcs i dont know if that count as soft reset or not... let me know if im wasting my time or not, thank you😅
I’m not the guy to ask about emulators but I'll try to help. It all depends on when the data of the Pokémon is loaded in that game. So in order to hunt for a shiny, you need to save before the data is loaded for an encounter so you can keep re-rolling the odds. Something you can try is catching Suicune twice and seeing if it has the same stats, nature, etc. that way you will know if it's a different Pokemon every reset. Hope that helps!

Dang. I play Gen 3 - 5, so "Harvest" isn't really available to me. Fortunately, there are other ways to get infinite battles, such as a pokemon with fling, recycle and starts by holding the berry. Or Gen 3 simply tricking a leftovers to it.
I actually want to go for Kyurem, because its a 3-in-1. Can't start yet since I need to prep some pokemon first, but I've got a team in mind.

Usually that's up to the players discretion but you can check Bulbapedia or Pokémon Database for that specific Pokémon and check each area they spawn in and select which area they most commonly spawn.

Bruh I have been soft resetting for a shiny Jellicent in White 2 literally since 2017. I go through cycles of about a month or so on and off of hunting. This shiny hunt has ABSOLUTELY KILLED ME like I have been so close to giving up at times. Still going strong though, and have also caught other shinies in different games throughout the years. i cant count srs but i have been trying for shiny latios in heartgold for almost 3 hours now
Any tips to not accidentally soft reset shinies?
Stay focused. Like I said, it's good to get into a rhythm but make sure you're paying attention before pressing any buttons. What I do sometimes if it's late or something is wait a few seconds before soft-resetting to make sure there’s no shiny sparkles or I don’t see/hear anything that is different. Double-takes also help out a lot with this.
