There was a community Sinnoh shiny hunt recently, and Manaphy was included. (Which is basically what you were doing with your few eggs, just cutting out a lot of time that would've been spent replaying the start of the games and trading the eggs over). And she had this setup on SIXTEEN different games, for a total of EIGHTY EGGS hatching at once. And it still took her over THIRTEEN CONSECUTIVE HOURS of hatching, soft resetting and changing IDs to finally hatch the shiny. A total of 11840 eggs hatched. ELEVEN THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND FORTY.

Yeah I came to say the same thing. I've been watching since like 2011? I graduated high school last year. Makes me really happy that he's still thriving
Small note about "overcooking" the eggs. In gen 4 and before, the game doesn’t store the exact amount of steps required to hatch; instead it stores a number of "egg cycles". This counter is is ticked down by 1 every 256 steps, (by 2 with magma armor/flame body), giving an effective number of steps to hatch each egg. This is why it will always take a few hundred steps between egg hatches in the older games, even if you store them in a box immediately after receiving (so that all the eggs have been in your party the same amount if time) and hatch them later. Gens 5+ store the exact step count, so you can get eggs hatching on consecutive tiles (which very much surprised me back in the day!) For how the effects things with the hunt. I believe the gamewise egg cycle ticker (which counts steps and subtracts an egg cycle from each egg when it reaches 255) resets back to 0 when you soft reset. Assuming this is the case, you shouldn't ever need to worry about eggs hatching in only a few steps and the worrying here is unnecessary, it will always take at least 256 steps to hatch from power on. That said as I type this up I realise it's entirely possible it doesn't reset and that the shiny hunters (who are no doubt more knowledgeable than me) know this. Regardless I hope you found this interesting, random internet stranger. :)
nope, it does not reset when you turn off the game. if you take the wrong number of steps before trading on a new file, the egg can be permanently unable to be traded without hatching. what most people who does this hunt do is just make and restore a save backup of a file that has all the eggs unhatched, but if you consider that cheating you can always leave your eggs at two cycles before trading to remove the risk… though there’s also the risk of accidentally deleting the file with the eggs instead of the one without them, so yeah just use save backups if you want to use the fully “legit” original eggs lol
As someone who has been watching One Piece for the past 20 years, putting the number of hours in context of One Piece episodes was a really good way of framing it

I am absolutley not built for this type of hunt, but I'm glad I got to learn so much about it. Pokémon's weird timed events and limitations can be such wild roadblocks sometimes, it makes for fantastic stories, despite being a little frustrating sometimes LOL.
You were the first RUclips creator I ever considered myself a fan of, and the fact that you're still around, making videos when you can, makes me very happy. It's been almost 15 years since you first started making content, and even though I wasn't there for all of it, you never forget your first. I pray for your sanity on the hunt, by the way.
I've been waiting excitedly for so long to see this video and you did an amazing job on it like you always do. I'm glad my Pokémon Ranger footage was able to help you with those capture card issues you were having on it.
And this is why I’ll NEVER unsubscribe from you. I never know when you’ll spook my notifications and bring me back to the golden era of RUclips. Glad to see you again. And I can shed some light on the Manaphy Egg hatching that you mentioned at 10:07. How eggs work: An egg is generated with a set amount of cycles, depending on species. The game will take one cycle away from every egg in your party, going consecutively from slot 1 to slot 6, every 256 steps (two cycles will be taken if your lead Pokémon has Flame Body/Magma Armor). In Gen IV, when an egg reaches 0 cycles remaining, it hatches, and all other eggs in the party after that egg will not have a cycle removed (to prevent multiple eggs from hatching at the same time). Where the 1-step hatch can occur is this: the 256 step requirement for taking away a cycle is tracked independent of eggs, it starts as soon as the save file is generated, and it persists with saving (i.e. if you’re 10 steps away from a cycle occurring, save, turn the game off, and come back later, you will still be 10 steps away). And it can (and often will) be different between different games. You can be 10 steps away from a cycle occurring in one game, but if you trade a ready-to-hatch egg to a different game that’s 240 steps away, it will still take that 240 steps to hatch. So, with all that said, if you trade an egg with only one cycle left to a save that is 1 step away from completing a cycle, that is how you can get the dreaded 1-step hatch that will ruin a Manaphy egg. Source: I hunted this dang thing…daily…for six months straight.

Over several months of hunting, I recently caught a shiny Dialga after 6000+ resets, with each reset taking only 20 seconds. Now imagine that, but HALF AN HOUR between resets. If Dialga took months, you can easily assume Manaphy would take years of active playing. I honestly loved Pokemon Ranger over the years and I agree that it is severely underrated and deserves more attention This is just how my brain works, but I can never understand how people find it frustrating or tedious, even though everyone explains it very well! I love all 3 Ranger games equally for different reasons; the OG was my favourite capture mechanic because it gave me that challenge ❤❤

Woo Jwittz is back! Shiny hunting is a mystery to me. I remember in Gen 5 I found some website where I could just type what Pokemon I wanted (moves, EVs, etc) and it would magically be sent to my game. Hacking your DS so you don't have to play Ranger is so silly to me. Just hack yourself a shiny Manaphy...
A Jwittz video. Christ man, what a channel. Started watching this channel when I was a kid, now fully grown adult and so much happened. Always appreciate you my man
You should've done a stream where you ask people to finish Ranger and send you the Eggs. Have everyone else complete the games for you and we all band together to see if our contribution is enough.
Nice. Appreciate seeing a youtuber doing a crazy thing and quitting because yeah, probably the right call there. Fun seeing people do things I'd never do, but at some point, nice to see someone not being totally bonkers to say it's normal not to.
even if you quit the hunt, it was still a very entertaining and well put together video. i had no idea manaphy was the hardest pokemon to shiny hunt :)
I’ve hunted some crazy stuff over the years, and I cannot agree enough when people say this was the end-all-be-all. Under-levelled Salamence, Antique Sinistea, even other non-event shiny legendaries. None of them compare to this. In any case, welcome back!
It's so nostalgic and wonderful to see a new JWittz video anytime the magic reappears~ Inspired me ever since many many years ago, and I'm happy you will continue to.
Jwittz was a big part of my childhood. Hearing him say "I've already put out most of the stories I want to tell" was a surprisingly humbling moment for me... The older I get, the more I believe that we should not always be striving to one-up our past or trying to recapture lost magic. Life is beautiful in so many forms, and it will always continue to change. Jwittz used to share so much of himself with the public, putting so much of himself out there. And just because he did it for so long does not mean that needs to continue forever, nor should it. Endings do not make the journey obsolete. Jwittz has made his mark on my life, and I'm so happy to hear that his life has moved a satisfying direction where he feels no resentment for his past, no sense of failure or guilt for being away... Time moves forward. Things change. We keep getting older. And with some proper contextualization, that can be a good thing. A very good thing.
Years ago, I remember Josh talking about wanting to move away from a regular upload schedule to one where he can higher-quality videos less often. This may be much less often than he meant at the time, but you still always know it's the good stuff when TheJWittz comes through your Subscriptions tab.
Jwittz i have been a fan for many years since the top 10 era. Just wanna say i respect the upload schedule and watching this video is like a passing of the baton. And this is why I’ll NEVER unsubscribe from you. I never know when you’ll spook my notifications and bring me back to the golden era of RUclips. Glad to see you again.
And I can shed some light on the Manaphy Egg hatching that you mentioned at 10:07.
How eggs work:
An egg is generated with a set amount of cycles, depending on species.

My boyfriend unintentionally got a Shiny Manaphy when we were kids. We had no ideas what Shinies were. We both got Shinies during are first time playing a Mainline Pokémon. He had Ranger while I also Explorers.
We’re gonna need to see some proof cuz that’s insane
@HDGamerofficial This was week after D/P released. I only have my Shiny Infernape.
Did he trade the egg to another cartridge or something. Because it’s impossible to get a shiny manaphy on the original game it was transferred to.
@@bagelgod946 He traded it with his sister. I'm still looking for his old Pearl Cartiage.
Oh my god. Look harder. Please, I actualy want to see that.
I was and original gen 1 kid that forgot all about Pokémon until I stumbled on to your channel during the x/y let’s play. I haven’t missed a single game since and have loved every bit of it. It’s good to see you back, I owe you one
We’re happy to have you back man. Even if you only post rarely. You got a job and family. It be like that. It costs nothing for me to stay subbed!
Huh. I haven’t thought about this channel in years, just to pop in and find out you uploaded your first video in over a year. What a breath of nostalgia. Hope you’re living well!
The prodigal son has finally returned!!!
I love how this went from the hardest shiny to maybe one of the easier hunts with all the possibilities/options you gave.
"Let's see whats in my sub feed"
"IS THAT A NEW JWITTS VIDEO?!?!"
The ending made me laugh as a viewer and sad as a gamer.
Welcome back!
Congrats on being first
I honestly loved Pokemon Ranger over the years and I agree that it is severely underrated and deserves more attention
This is just how my brain works, but I can never understand how people find it frustrating or tedious, even though everyone explains it very well!
I love all 3 Ranger games equally for different reasons; the OG was my favourite capture mechanic because it gave me that challenge ❤❤
TheJWittz, this video is a w
Scam channel.
1 year or 10 years, you post a new video, I'm watching. I've been a fan of yours from the beginning, when I was first getting into competitive tcg. I've loved watching you grow, and you are one of the most genuine, heart-led people in the content business. Hope the family is well ❤
Man seeing that Pokemon Ranger gameplay made me so nostalgic - I remember playing that game as a kid specifically for that Manaphy egg LOL
God you were one absolutely one of my fav RUclipsrs to watch when I was younger. You and ProtoMario. Like, I was elementary school young when I discovered you. Im graduated now. From high school. Time flies, huh?
Good to see you around, hope life has treated you well all these years. Congrats on being a dad. ❤
HE LIIIIIIVESSS!!!
I'm glad someone finally talked about the sequels wifi events.
Back in the day that is exactly what I did to get a dozen eggs while the event was running. I was confused when people talked about only getting 1 egg per game.
Deeply appreciative that my Autism/OCD hasn't ever demanded I got super into Shiny hunting.
It's cool if you get a random shiny or if you hunt for your favorite shiny, but "hunting for the rarest shiny" is virtually no different from a pathological gambling addiction, the only difference is that you're not giving your money to a casino 💀
Play Legends Arceus. Pretty easy to trip over shinys
for whatever reason one of your old videos about creepy pokédex (specifically jellicent and pringles) entries is a core memory of mine that keeps bringing me back - nice vid! one of my BYOATs
Your Magnum Opus should be ALL the dark and creepy pokedex entries over the years
aw man i havent watched the channel since X/Y were the current pokemon game and this being the video to return me was fun!
Glad to see your still around!!
Ahh shiny Manaphy no wonder its been a year lol
Woo Jwittz is back!
Shiny hunting is a mystery to me. I remember in Gen 5 I found some website where I could just type what Pokemon I wanted (moves, EVs, etc) and it would magically be sent to my game.
Hacking your DS so you don't have to play Ranger is so silly to me. Just hack yourself a shiny Manaphy...
Man, I remember driving my stylus straight into the couch trying the Charizard boss lmao
Dude I haven't seen you around since I was a kid! Hearing your voice again reminds me of those top 10 videos, I'm gonna cry from nostalgia
now im deeply interested to see u do flying shiny moltres from LGPE
i saw this video pop up, and now i have to go down a nostalgia spiral, i used to watch your videos literally all the time it's insane
Me when I argue online about the Legitimacy of a Non-Tangeble Childrens Video Game monster.
Nice. Appreciate seeing a youtuber doing a crazy thing and quitting because yeah, probably the right call there. Fun seeing people do things I'd never do, but at some point, nice to see someone not being totally bonkers to say it's normal not to.
When the world needed him most, the King returned. And with a prince in tow.
...Seriously though, welcome back! 🤗❤️
I am so happy and very pleasantly suprised that Jwittz is back.
Hes back
Glad to see you again! I hope you and your family are doing well.
PS: Please find a cypher to feature on. It's been wayyyy too long
It’s THE TheJWittz
Not sure why this video did not appear in my feed. Glad to see you still making video!!
Oh my goodness JWittz uploaded!! LIGHT THE BEACON!!!!
even if you quit the hunt, it was still a very entertaining and well put together video. i had no idea manaphy was the hardest pokemon to shiny hunt :)
Is this the third lord of the Rings movie cause the king has returned
love that i can come back to this channel after like 7 years and still enjoy the content
The Go Rock Quads!
🎶 🎸 🥁 🎻 🪈
🎶Pokémon a go-go!🎶
A classic that should be in the anime
I’ve hunted some crazy stuff over the years, and I cannot agree enough when people say this was the end-all-be-all. Under-levelled Salamence, Antique Sinistea, even other non-event shiny legendaries. None of them compare to this.
In any case, welcome back!
He's back HE'S BAACK!!
It's so nostalgic and wonderful to see a new JWittz video anytime the magic reappears~ Inspired me ever since many many years ago, and I'm happy you will continue to.
“it’s been a while”
Jwittz was a big part of my childhood.
23:28 LMAO adding the spongebob quote here was PERFECT
A few weeks ago, I was like "Hey, where's JWittz?"
Dude I watched you as a kid and to see you still uploading is so awesome! Fastest sub of my life and glad to see your channel is still alive
HE'S Alive AAAAALLLLLIIIIVVVEEE🎉🎉
1 Year, 10 years, don't matter, New JWittz video is new JWittz video and we shall cherish it
Great to see you back 😃
Holy moly, the legend has uploaded! I was just talking about how one of my childhood youtubers stopped posting, and then I see this appear!
THE RETURN?
The fact that this hunt in its original form will eventually be lost to time due to running out of fresh Pokémon Ranger copies is crazy too.
It's been 3000 years...
Jwittz i have been a fan for many years since the top 10 era. Just wanna say i respect the upload schedule and watching this video is like a passing of the baton. Hope you make just a couple more videos before you fully retire but if you did retire it would truly be the end of a generation for me not an era but a full generation. You are the goat man leave them wanting more
Return of the king
"thin as a stunfisk" is my new favorite phrase :D
