I Caught Every Shiny Legendary Pokemon from Kanto

I've never mentioned it on the channel before, but I've been a huge Pokemon fan ever since I can remember. My first memories of existence almost always include a gameboy in my hands running Pokemon Sapphire. However, the recent generations of Pokemon games never really scratched that itch for me. So 3 years ago I went back to gen 3 and tried my first ever shiny hunt to relive the games from my childhood. And I've been hooked ever since! Today I thought I'd share that with you all by catching every shiny legend and mythical from Kanto, I really hope you enjoy!
The first hunt started on April 4th and the last one was completed on April 17th. So this took MUCH less time than expected!

I haven't catch any either... I was lucky AND unlucky at the same time, once... While starting a run on Emerald, I got the uncatchable shiny Poochyena in the tutorial. Never seen another shiny since... Though, I haven't player a Pokémon game in ages... XD
In my first playthrough of emerald, I found a shiny pelipper and didn't know what a shiny was and wondered why it was green and thought it was to do with gender so I killed it 😢It took me so long to find out what a shiny was I might have killed more idk😅

I remember as a kid I understood the concept of resetting for a shiny but not really how low 1/8192 is and after a day of resetting my sapphire for a shiny Torchic I gave up and cried.
Sapphire has the shiny frames thing too so depending on how you were doing it it might’ve been impossible

statistics on things like this are funny. 1 in 8192 means you pass the 50% chance to have encountered a shiny at 6000 runs, and a full 8200 offers a 63% chance to encounter one. while still remembering every single roll is independent of every other, so you are never guaranteed to meet one next encounter even if the math says you should have in 99% of cases. so it's much like rolling a dice looking for a six. it may have been half a million dice rolls without seeing a six, but the next roll remains just as likely to roll a six as the first one was.
Which is why I’ve seen a lot of people jokingly refer to the “true” odds being 50/50. It’s either shiny or it’s not lol.

We can do the math on this question and calculate the odds two ways, get all caught up in how many sides we could get and add them all up.
oooor, we shortcut by asking a slightly different question. What are the odds of No sixes?
Well that's simply 5/6 done six times. Which turns out to be 5/6 to the power of six. Which is 33.4%
Which is to say it's actually normal that you hit a 65% odds to have an 1/x event happen you expect to happen after doing the activity x times.
Easiest example is flipping a coin. If I call Heads every time and you flip it twice, I get a 75% chance to get it right one of the two times. Because you give me a win 50% of the time the first time and 50% of the time on the second as well (which happens 25% of all four possible events).
Because you are talking odds of 1/8000, doing the activity 8000 times leaves you with a 63% odds, because I did the math. If 100 people try, you expect 37 of them to have failed at that point, and facing the reality that if they try another 8000 times, they STILL have a nearly 40% odds of failing to accomplish their task. Because every single roll of the RNG is identical. Usually. Some games use a much simpler mechanism, basically a table with predetermined probabilities. Where you can literally do the math to work out exactly when the event is guaranteed to happen based on outside information to work out where you are on that table.

Roll a dice three times, 1 and 2 means finding a rare.
You do the math, and it turns out that in 19 of the 27 combinations the 1 and 2 will show up. Which is 70% of the time, and if you throw a coin twice or roll a dice for odds and evens, it's a 75% chance for that to happen. Can only be heads and tails or tails and heads or heads and heads or tails and tails.
Turns out as numbers yet bigger and the roll longer, the closer the statistics get to just over 60%
And folks who try to simplify it down to 50% are seriously saying they have a 50% chance of dying because they forgot to keep breathing. Which clearly isn't how we should use statistics.
And more importantly? Six replies who got themselves confused have been deleted.
Go figure.

Just for reference. Yes you can sit in one place hunting for hours. My first shiny hunt was in platinum Eterna forest. And after 15,508 encounter nearly 72 hours of being there I found 1 shiny. Never deterred me from the hunt just made that shiny all the more special.
as another referance, I've been hunting Fennekin in gen 6 since May 2022 (on and off), and it has been a lot more then 72 hours. it can be long, but damn, it's so worth it

@BellShinyHunts Good luck on your hunt! I've been hunting Oshawott since 2020 and I finally got it this year in March, 35620 total resets for it and lemme tell you, finally finding my little boy felt so darn good

My most proud hunt was Shiny Jirachi. The odds are better at a little over 1/7000, but each Jirachi is basically a digital clone of each other (as in, they all have a set PID/TID). It's pretty tedious since you can only get it in Ruby/Sapphire from the Colosseum bonus disc, and you basically have to restart the game and do the tutorial so each reset is around 10 minutes or so. Suffice to say, it only took me around 1.7k resets across the two instances I had where I grinded for it. Brutal shiny hunt, but worth it and I would recommend it for those who want a long-term hunt. It took me around 2 years of on and off hunting.

love shiny hunts like these where it actually shows the amount of resets and hours it took to get it. Makes it look more authentic.
My absolute favorite sequence of shiny hunts was my full odds Gen 7 Cresselia, appropriately named Blue Moon. Took over 13,000 resets, over 2 weeks.
Immediately after I got the shiny charm to reduce the grind and found a shiny Mewtwo in 7 resets, not even 2 days later.

Depending on the game the shiny charm doesn’t increase the odds on static encounters meaning u may just be insanely lucky

It was definitely between the two. But since the red on shiny Zapdos is the central change in my eyes, I wanted to tie that in with the ball. So luxury was the only choice for me :)

for those curious about emerald’s broken rng, basically emerald’s rng seed never resets, so you will always get the same exact pokemon if you have 2 encounters on the same frame. this can actually be used for manipulating shinies or perfect iv pokemon.

I only ever saw a shiny sudowoodo in crystal when I kept resetting trying to catch it but didn't knowtice thats what it was till I caught the red garados in the lake and realized the star animation meant it was shiny 😑

The worst part about the long hunts is your mind playing tricks on you when the Pokemon is still in the shadow before the name comes up. I go from straight chilling to shooting up with straightened back, eyes locked screaming “IS THAT A SHINY?!” Then realizing it’s not and just moving on, lol.

I got lucky enough to catch a shiny nidoran while hunting for a lucky egg in the safari zone
I've found shiny versions of all these as well, I remember Rayquaza being the most frustrating.
That shiny squirtle reset hurt.
It hurt bad, and then it hurt even worse once I realized it was female. I had to do another 12k resets, but I got it again and somehow it was also female. So that trauma has been resolved now LOL.
@Gungnir_ Crazy luck on that, and, congrats on reclaiming it! I still have yet to reclaim mine. I gave up a handful of encounters a few years ago, I got a shiny Weedle three steps into Viridian Forest. I went for it again but swapped to Bulbasaur instead, getting that in just over 100 encounters. So I guess it made up for the now Beedrill. Though, I haven’t had the greatest luck since.

As a kid I made my way to Faraway Island and got me the Mew since I never got one in Gens 1 or 2. It’s admittedly a hacked shiny, but I still bring him along each generation for the last 20 years. Even picked up the special mark for him for beating the Mewtwo in Violet.
Did he also cheat for the mew event? Can I have the mew event playing on an emulator by not cheating?

Im a little late to this but great video! I was a gen 3 kid and was always wanting to somehow trigger the events on my physical games (I wanted mew or deoxys on a physical gameboy card and not through an emulator) so how did you end up doing it? Any tips would be great. So far the only way I can find is by getting any equipment (connectors etc.) used to trigger the event and then like actually coding the right things to then trigger a mystery gift.

Your luck is genuinely insane. All of them in under 50 hours!? I have spent 80 hours on Mew & Mewtwo alone and am still going with them. only just hit 8,000 for Mew and since I am double hunting Mewtwo, 16,000. Please share some of this luck.
