I am 18 and one of my darkest fears is to be addicted to social media. I have a flip phone, use only a Pentax camera, computer for school, I have social media because its easier to communicate with friends. I limit the people I follow so that my feed is only my friends. People ask me a lot how I am the way I am. I wear what I want, relax, daydream, work on my talents, and genuinely talk to people. I notice with my generation that people are distant, they aren't living in the moment....with me. I struggle with patients with others. I want them to be happy, just get off your phone and look around you!! I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. LOVE your videos! keep it up.

I admire you for this! Whenever I come off of social media, I feel like I’ve fallen off the face of the earth. I lose contact with nearly everyone and it’s really sad that they obviously are not real friends then. I always give in and go back on Instagram, but your comment makes me want to just stay off it. You’re right, people are so distant and they don’t live in the moment. At my wedding last month, they asked the guests to put their phones away and they didn’t listen. All of my ceremony photos are of people with their phones high in the air. It really upset me. No one wants to just BE. I hope to socialize in person with more people like you!

Serious question though: what would happen if you didn't film any of it? Or what if you didn't plan on sharing any of it. What if you took the journey and kept it to yourself. And lived life just for yourself without making content for others. All serious questions. I don't think I could delete my social media for even a week - I'm not sure how I'd feel knowing no one was listening to me. Watching me. Judging me. Liking me. Following me. Unfollowing me. Just detaching completely. Love your content - your editing and footage are both beautifully done. Just food for thought.

Very good point but Nathaniel presents himself and his content in a way that everyone, ourselves and him are enriched by his videos, with the layout, depth and questions his videos go into. This isn’t just a trashy blog, and I think the fact that he filmed this motivates himself to do this and also inspires us to follow in his stead. Now it is a good thing to wonder if the filming is getting in the way of his learning, but he’s always seems to be getting a lot out of the things he shares with us.
TLDR: I do think that while usually the desire to document and record everything can prevent people from living in the moment, in Nathaniel’s case it’s motivation for him to enrich himself. PLUS he is keeping himself accountable to us

When I had a flip phone because I needed a phone with me at all times for my business or lose money if I wasn't able to set appointments when people called, I used to watch people on their 'fancy phones' and think Wow, you are so unaware of what is happening around you. I did feel a bit superior because I wasn't caught up in the latest thing. Then I got a fancy phone. It is the first thing I reach for in the morning, the last thing I touch before sleep. Addicted to the latest political drama. I don't have or want social media. I do love it for information that is at your fingertips as I do rescue animals and research their medicines, etc. But, the political thing is out if control knowing thats exactly what they want. I even research the studies of how they addict you and the affects it has on your brain. Sometimes I leave my phone at work therefore I can't succumb to my desires. Anyway, now I am part if the masses tripping on sidewalk cracks, not hearing neighbors as they greet me with a hello from across yards, developing terrible posture always bent to the screen, etc. Great you did this video. Good for you. Hope a lot of us learn from it.

If you die tonight, do you know where you're going? Did you know that Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven and He loves you?
Through Him, God offers you a FREE gift - forgiveness. All you need to do is repent, turn away from your sins and evil ways,
from now on put your faith completely in Jesus Christ and be obedient to Him.
      Explanation:
God doesn’t want anybody in hell because He loves us, but you must understand why
we deserve hell and why those who refuse to live under His authority will go
there. (Matthew 12:30) ''Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not
gather with me scatters.'' He gave us the law (Ten Commandments) not to make us righteouss, but
rather to show us our sin (Romans 3:20). God gave us free will and since Adam
sinned in the garden, sin is the nature of our flesh and we’ve all sinned.
(Romans 3:23) and the law demands death to those who sin (Romans 6:23). For
someone to be justified before God they have to be sinless, that's why everyone need Jesus Christ.
None of us are good in God’s eyes, because for God good means moral perfection. We all
have broken God’s commandments, we all have sinned in our lives so none of us
are good. ‘’For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is
guilty of breaking all of it.’’ (James 2:10). ‘’For God so
loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever
believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’’ (John 3:16) That’s why only Jesus can
save us, because He lived a perfect and sinless life and is the only worthy
sacrifice and died for our sins. We aren’t saved based on our good
deeds/works, but only by the grace of God. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
He said ‘’it is finished’’ (John 19:30), which means He paid the fine for our sins
(past, present, future) to be forgiven if we repent and trust in Him.
‘’Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that
times of refreshing may come from the Lord.’’ (Acts 3:19) Biblically, a person who repents does not continue willfully in sin.
Repentance is a turning from sin, and it always results in changed behavior (Luke 3:8). While sorrow from sin is
not equivalent to repentance, it is certainly an element of scriptural repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10). Do not play a hypocrite.
(John 3:3) Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again."
If you confess that Jesus is Lord (John 10:30) and believe that God raised Him from the dead, then you’ll be saved. (Romans 10:9)
You are born again with the spirit of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. (John 3:36)
Bible is the Word of God. You may ask how so because it is written by men. Just like a letter is written by a pen,
so is Bible written by God using men. Bible/God's Word was written over 1600 year period by 40 different authors and 66 books, all leading to the coming of God's Son - Jesus Christ. There is consistency of revelation throughout a long time of period, many prophecies being fulfilled.
In the Book of Isaiah you see details about how Jesus Christ suffered even if it was written a long time before His coming.
In the Book of Daniel 500 BC you can read about Alexander the great who lived 300 BC.
Get right with God and start your relationship with Jesus Christ right now before it’s too late, because there’s not much time left!. "But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.’’ (Mark 13:32)
You may start with a simple prayer from the bottom of your heart, TRULY believing that God listens and
cares. (Jeremiah 29:13) ''You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.''
Get to know Christ through His word. At first I recommend reading Gospel of John and book of Romans. God bless you!

This really hits close to the heart. I feel like the ‘social dilemma’ you mention is such a pressing issue that a lot of people in their 20s right now are experiencing. We were, in a way, the last generation to experience life BEFORE social media truly took over. It’s scary to see how young and obsessed teens are these days and I hope that society starts taking steps backwards towards more traditional forms of communication (phone calls, postcards, long emails to friends) to help with mental health and wellness in the future.
    Awesome video

@@francescaciabattini2952 That is a good point, I have to accept that I have the same issue.
In my defense, I’ve only seen educational material but still , I see too much in to little time which is bad because I’m learning nothing.
My solutions (in my case) will be:
•Erasing RUclips from my phone, first of all because I hate adds so much with all my core, and on Mozilla (pc) they don’t show up.
•Only using RUclips on my desktop pc. It makes an extra thought and effort to do so, which is good. It forces me to see RUclips only when is necessary.
•Limiting my RUclips consumption by, idk, two or one vid per day. If I see an essay or an interesting video, just news or whatever, I will try to analyze the info, maybe write it down if it’s necessary. Basically have record of what i have learned... seen many videos a day makes you think that we’ve learn when we can’t even remember a portion of it.
•Be smart about not getting overwhelmed with so much information.
I’ve done this before and it helps a lot, but I’m human and I’m week and stupid and I screw up coming back to RUclips. But I think you make me realize some things. I’ll try my best.

"we all have the opportunity to examine ourselves...." it was interesting to see your one week update and realize how much of a distraction social media can be. The attention, validation from other people... its a lot. thank you for doing this video and being so truthful about the topic that others may shy away from. Also really made me think about re-activating that "kid" in me again.

Ahh, I was just having a conversation with someone about what makes one extraordinary. I believe that somethings are immeasurable, but my friend believed it had to do with the numbers.

Friend ... what you are talking about I very much agree ... When you talk about the gaps between analog photos, you touched a sensitive nerve, we are very disconnected ... I am born in 1988, and those things were part of my life, things took more time, family trips were with a map, and free times were filled with beautiful things ...
    Thank you. Beautiful experiment.
Let's go back to when time made sense.

It's crazy how a few years' age difference changes how people interact with 'analog' technology.
I've just turned 30, but I would never have thought of picking up a physical copy of a book as something alternative or nostalgic or even 'analog' at all... but it certainly seems to be the case for people in the 18-24 range.
Fascinating and terrifying the impact digital technology and its quick ubiquity have had on a generation just a few years younger than myself.

It’s funny how I also quit social media a couple of months ago, and when you said “I just don’t need to know what my friends are doing all the time”, man, I feel that! We just don’t need to know everything all the time! Unless the things that are really important to us.
I felt a drastic change of how I view how to fill my day. All those free times spent mindlessly scrolling were changed to looking how I could utilize the time productively and I started to want to write again. Not writing because I had to achieve a b c goals but just because I was inspired, I had an imagination and I want to write it down. My thoughts were starting to come back to me. Words were filling my head like it hadn’t a few years recently since we’re too caught up in mindless use of our internet.
I strongly recommend doing this to other people who want to remember what it’s like to dream freely again. ✨✨

Distractions (especially from social media) enforce on you a distorted reality. You embrace fantasies more than you do the actual world around you. This is an issue, for you lose appreciation for everything that should matter and it might be just in front of your eyes.

Nostalgia for me is the quite moments that seem to never be documented but are the small stories that bring the best feelings; and are like magic encompassing smell and feeling of that moment, that almost seem quiet in your mind to obols be revised again and again.
