I find mixing up technology, like YT’ing on my iPad while writing down the brainstorming ideas that come of it on separate index cards, seems to encourage brain activity that each process alone doesn’t completely deliver. Purposefully spanning the analog/digital divide helps bring depth to a project. Maybe this only helps me, as my thoughts tumble out in a gush and can be so fleeting?! “Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket. Never let it fade away.” -Perry Como

Enthusiastic acceptance of everything that happens in life: good or bad. Let life surprise you. 3. Stop ruminating over past mistakes. It brings you nothing. Courage is the best of all virtues 4. "I don't want my entire life to be a waiting game." Oof that hit me hard. This idea was on my mind a lot today. I try to remind myself often that I don't get to go back and live my life again once I've done everything I'm "supposed" to do. How you choose to spend each day ultimately makes up how you spend your life. There's no sense in waiting to work towards what you truly want.
"I don't want my entire life to be a waiting game" - that hit me hard! One thing I repeated through 2020 was the way I regret not taking chances when I had them by waiting for the perfect moment. I also believe newsletters are the way to go. My life is currently in shambles in nearly every aspect, but this gave me a lot more inspiration than you can imagine, thank you for that. I want to leave all my shit behind and turn a new page
Awesome! I'm taking this summer to reset & reinvent my life by moving to Miami Beach, Rucksacking, Full time employed, Florida Residency, new friends, and being apart of the culture in a positive way.
Remember bois we dont have to wait for an arbitrary day to change and reinvent ourselves. We can do it any day we want. That's such an underrated gift we're all given but tend to overlook. Also the change doesn't have to be this big transformation. We can choose to make small decisions everyday towards who we wanna be, and eventually they would all compound and pile up. You are what you do everyday. Personally, I spend way too much time on youtube. Although it's rly hard to just stop and call quits on my bad habits, I'm slowly starting to become more mindful and aware of these when I eventually find myself meaninglessly scrolling. We don't rise to the height of our goals, we fall to the level of our systems. For me, if Im able to take just one step everyday in moving towards my goals and ambitions then Im good. Although I regularly get into ruts and periods of feeling like shit, as long as you know where to go and know how to slowly grow and improve one step at a time, u good. Even if we don't get drastic results immediately, be happy that you're moving towards something in life. That you have direction and taking action one step at a time. Sry if im rambling idk y i just wrote this i still got some hw to speedrun Gl guys hopefully 2021 goes better for all of us
Sometimes I feel like my thoughts are all over the place in terms of how to make real changes in my life, and I love how concise, yet still very thoughtful and in-depth you are with each point. Thanks Nathaniel et bonne année !
Nathaniel is such a light. How often do you hear someone say they love life/people (despite all the obvious reasons not to)? He's so positive, and that's something I always strive for too. No one wants to hear you grumbling about how much life sucks or your boss sucks. We've all been there or heard it. We need more optimistic, positive people because they're the ones that leave a positive, lasting impression on people's lives. BTW good luck with writing, Nathaniel!
You are simply the best Nathaniel !! I hope one day to be lucky enough to work with you to make a song 🙏🏻 A hug from New Zealand 🇳🇿 and I wish you happy Christmas holidays 🎄❤️
Wow, I think if I'll ever get a tattoo, Amor fati will be it. I love it and completely aligns with how I live. It was so nice to see all the Dutch beauty (including Sadiah) trough your eyes. I live there, but these images are really special. Makes me appreciate it even more.
You can start saying "no" for a simple thing that it isn't your responsability and you aren't interested to do. I have the same trouble than you but I have been learning that say "no" it doesn't make me a bad person and it is a great way to know who really like you or who just likes you because they can use you.
Awesome goals! Remember that saying “no” will take time and practice; you will have times where you will say “yes” and you don’t mean it, but don’t beat yourself up over it. It will take time to solidify that confidence. Also, start by looking inward and recognizing your boundaries. When you feel uncomfortable for saying “yes “, ask why! You may know all this already, but those are some things I’ve learned along the way to a similar goal. I’m still working towards it, but hopefully it helps!
@@Jessica_BR Thats the bad thing, I feel like an A**hole when I say no. The need to please people is making my days stressful. Thanks, I´m gonna follow your advice
"Don't you think maybe they are the same thing? Love and attention?" - Sister Sarah Joan, Lady Bird This is one of my favorite quotes ever, and I thought of it as I was watching your video. Paying attention to each moment, being grateful for it, is truly the best way to live life. Thanks for another brilliant video, have a great year!
Heart of Kentucky. Hi Nathaniel Drew. We are to use our gifts to nurture our spirit, as well as other people's spirit. You are right about courage. Glad you are enjoying analog. I'm still praying for your safety. Katie.
Potent, love this perspective!! I've also been using this opportunity to strengthen my faith and spiritual foundation. There is always hope amidst these turbulent times. Peace and love to all!!! 🕊️🕊️
Thank you so much 🙏🏻 We usually all strive for too complicated or too many resolutions, whereas the most helpful and impactful ones are the most simple ones, just like those you share with us. Thanks ✨
This video more than any other has hit me in a very real way. I was a social media junkie, mainly because of my curiosity. I felt that over time I was absorbing everyone’s energies... their sadness, their anger, their fear. I made the decision to go on a social media fast. I do find myself a little lost but I have also made some other changes to my health as well. I tend to be an over thinker and it takes a while for me to transition to a new thing. I reinvented myself a few times and this one presently is the hardest - my ultimate self care. Thank you for putting it all in perspective in such a clear and heartfelt way. This year will be more present for me and I will continue despite what changes go on around me.
A lot of the stuff you are talking about reminds me very much of a minimalist approach to life. being more intentional and focusing on what matters most and keeping things simple.
Hi Nathaniel. Yes, this crap will end, "one day" love your plans. Not sure what 2021 will look like in Canada yet. We're not there yet. We're in lockdown right now. I do the book end too. First in the Am is prayer and meditation, then my day, and at the end, 1 hr inside a book before bed. I write throughout the ay too in my notebooks like you. Hopefully this is going to change for the better, let us pray!
Love it! I’m here for the ride! I think it’s important to live our life-really fully LIVE it-then post on social media, instead of looking for things to do so we can post it on social media. It’s an important distinction in my life. I also sometimes go places and purposefully don’t take pictures so that I am fully present and experiencing all that is going on.
RUclips algorithm found you! Such great content. The wife and I were talking about these subjects just today. It was our first time, getting time together with no distractions in quite some time. Very refreshing! Thank you.
Yup, after being on unemployment since my tourism business took a big knock this year (I wonder why 😑) I've been figuring out how to make 2021 my best year yet.
Yessss ❤️ I'm living 2021 by being the lover. The lover of life, lover of fate; to love it all with as little resistance and judgement as possible. Big love to you!
*Summary* _n o t e s_ 👇🌿 ::: There's something powerful about the idea of a fresh start. Checking on how the year went and identifying where improvements can be made & next steps. Focusing on optimism and building a path forward. *Go simple.* Create a list of _3 main_ things you want to focus on this year. Nathaniel's list: 🌿1. *Don't wait* - With this year's lockdown, we might have lost our appreciation the time we have. We lost our sense of time, as we've been in a position where we had to stay inside our homes and wait for _IT_ to pass so that we can go back to _normal_. But we are not going to get back to normal, as _normal is never normal_. Things will always be changing. Stop playing the _waiting game_. Don't wait for the _world to change_ or get better on your behalf. Remind yourself that the fact that you are alive is a _miracle_. It really is. 🌿 2. *Amor fati* = Love of one's fate (latin) - Have an _enthusiastic_ acceptance for everything that happens to you in your life. _My formula for greatness in a human being is _amor fati_: that one wants nothing to be different, not forward, not backword, not in all eternity. Not merely bear what is necessary, steal less conceal it - but love it._ - Friedrich Nietzsche Allow life to surpise you. 🌿 *Quotes to ponder* _I've always the feeling that life loves the liver of it. You must live and life will be good to you, give you experiences. They may not all be that pleasant, but nobody promised you a rose garden. But more than likely if you do dare, what you get are the marvelous returns._ _Courage is probably the most important of the virtues, because without courage you cannot practice any of the other virtues, you can't say against a murderous society, "I oppose your murdering." You got to have courage to do so._ Do not let any of the upcoming changes remove your love for life. 🌿 3. *Pay closer attention* - Nathaniel has become very drawn to the analog world. Craftsmanship? Analog photography, communication (postcards), capturing of ideas with pen and paper, tape recorder. The wave of social media pulled us away from the shores of the analog world, disconnecting us from the physical realities and surroundings. The extreme quantity is harmful. Maybe you can try quitting social media as an experiment. In 2021, Nathaniel would like to write for 1H in the morning and make music for 1H in the evening. In-between, he would like to take care of the rest of this work. *Some final thoughts from me* 🌿 - More creativity - Less reaction to notifications - Walk bearfoot on the ground - Lift heavy objects - Play with the dog - That won't sacrifice anything The monkey brain is inside all of us in some capacity. The incessant internal dialog. Like an irritating roommate that you have in your head and we can all think back to say, elementary school. Fix it: capture your monkey mind, its complaints or insecurities on paper so that it is not caught on repeat for the rest of the day. Start journaling. _END_ Thank you for reading! Please note that these are some quick notes I took out of Nathaniel's video essay. You should watch the full video for additional golden nuggets and the extended version of each idea! Nathaniel, if you are reading this, thank you for helping me upgrade my world views. I really appreciate what you do. You inspired me to take a more systemic on documenting my journey on my RUclips channel and on my personal research as well. i know it can def feel like we're putting moments on hold with the current sitch, but it's about those little moments in your day like your cup of tea in the morning, hearing a funny word that makes you think of a past memory/someone, or seeing the joy on someone's face when they talk about their passion that can bring that spark and sense of presence. Creating presence changes everything
I connect with this video so deeply. At a certain point last year, I said to myself "I'm tired of wishing my life away." I was very caught up in all of the things I had been hoping to do (finding a partner, a new job, going travelling). I spent all my time wishing my life was different, but I had to come to terms with the fact that this is the life I have. I am living my life now. Around Christmas, I read "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl. In it he communicates a similar conclusion to "amor fati": “We do not ask life what the meaning of life is. Life asks us, what is the meaning of your life. And life demands our answer.” Life asks us to show up for what it gives to us, it gifts us experiences to move through. It's my goal this year as well to live the life I have and fearlessly participate as wholeheartedly as I can.
Doubling your productivity by getting off social media is certainly good advice. This includes RUclips, though. At this point, I probably failed at advertising my channel 😅
I was just telling my friend before watching this video that social media is not running out of time , it keeps on evolving and will stay forever but we humans won't, and for us to evolve we need to pay attention to ourselves. Also this video was like a wake up call for us to really appreciate life in it's simplest form and really focus on ourselves.
I want to become your friend and spend time travelling together, chatting, exploring things and just joggling. You inspired me to do things I was afraid to start to do. Thank you!

Love this! It's refreshing to hear other people talk about the info overload in a way that is balanced and well thought out. You apply language like a surgeon. Beautiful.

This was so refreshing to watch! I really appreciate your simplicity and depth. I love your newsletter, btw!. So thanks for pouring so much of yourself and what supports you into them. One thing I'd like to share is that like you, I write for an hour in the morning and I've been blown away by the benefits it grants me like noticing how much more mental clarity I have afterward and the ability to make connections, both simple and complex in meaningful ways. @@SamMartinPeakPerformance thanks man, I really appreciate that
Same here dude. We're going to push through and prosper for sure!
Awesome! I'm taking this summer to reset & reinvent my life by moving to Miami Beach, Rucksacking, Full time employed, Florida Residency, new friends, and being apart of the culture in a positive way.
Daily, weekly, monthly catch ups with yourself is my tip for staying on track and continually getting better! Great video Nathaniel
Sry if im rambling idk y i just wrote this i still got some hw to speedrun
Gl guys hopefully 2021 goes better for all of us
Nathaniel and Sadia in one video?! 😭🧡 My heart is full~
Agree so much about getting off social media. It's made a world of difference for me personally.
My 2021 goal is learning, truly learning how to say NO. It fucks me everysingle timd
What do you wanna say yes to
You can start saying "no" for a simple thing that it isn't your responsability and you aren't interested to do.
@@deepika2644 sorry, what are you asking I didnt get it?
@@Jessica_BR Thats the bad thing, I feel like an A**hole when I say no. The need to please people is making my days stressful. Thanks, I´m gonna follow your advice

This is one of my favorite quotes ever, and I thought of it as I was watching your video. Paying attention to each moment, being grateful for it, is truly the best way to live life. Thanks for another brilliant video, have a great year!
“The only way to learn is to live”

It's comforting to know I wasn't the only one feeling like I had unlimited time and yet no time for myself. Thank you for this!!
I LOVE the optimism and positivity in this video! Perfect way to start my day. Here's to 2021!
Heart of Kentucky. Hi Nathaniel Drew. We are to use our gifts to nurture our spirit, as well as other people's spirit. You are right about courage. Glad you are enjoying analog. I'm still praying for your safety. Katie.
Love that Nathaniel comes out with this every year to help us and himself realign with what we actually want to do in life
Potent, love this perspective!! I've also been using this opportunity to strengthen my faith and spiritual foundation. There is always hope amidst these turbulent times. Peace and love to all!!! 🕊️🕊️
1:00 wow Tenet 2 looks great!
I was looking for this comment thank you
Thank you so much 🙏🏻 We usually all strive for too complicated or too many resolutions, whereas the most helpful and impactful ones are the most simple ones, just like those you share with us. Thanks ✨
Your filmmaking is so beautiful
How is the fast going? Do you see a difference in your day to day being away from social media?
“Don’t reinvent the wheel, just... realign it.”
-Anthony J D’Angelo
It's amazing to see how much your channel has grown over the last couple of years. You're truly an inspiration!
I pray 2021 blesses each and everyone of you.
I for one am pretty excited for the new year
A lot of the stuff you are talking about reminds me very much of a minimalist approach to life. being more intentional and focusing on what matters most and keeping things simple.
I love how you smile in your videos. It spreads positivity without words.
How to Reinvent Yourself
Step One: Buy lemons
And make lemonade
So **so** refreshing to hear your angle, Nathaniel! Analogue is the way forward! Love it!! 😊
2021 should be a year where we all achieve our goals, we’re in this together !
"We are not nouns, we are verbs." - Stephen Fry.
RUclips algorithm found you! Such great content. The wife and I were talking about these subjects just today. It was our first time, getting time together with no distractions in quite some time. Very refreshing! Thank you.
Yup, after being on unemployment since my tourism business took a big knock this year (I wonder why 😑)
I've been figuring out how to make 2021 my best year yet.
Yessss ❤️ I'm living 2021 by being the lover. The lover of life, lover of fate; to love it all with as little resistance and judgement as possible. Big love to you!
*Summary* _n o t e s_ 👇🌿
:::
There's something powerful about the idea of a fresh start.
Checking on how the year went and identifying where improvements can be made & next steps.
Focusing on optimism and building a path forward.
*Go simple.*
Create a list of _3 main_ things you want to focus on this year.
Nathaniel's list:
🌿1. *Don't wait*
-
With this year's lockdown, we might have lost our appreciation the time we have.
🌿 2. *Amor fati* = Love of one's fate (latin)
-
Have an _enthusiastic_ acceptance for everything that happens to you in your life.
_My formula for greatness in a human being is _amor fati_: that one wants nothing to be different, not forward, not backword, not in all eternity. Not merely bear what is necessary, steal less conceal it - but love it._
- Friedrich Nietzsche
Allow life to surpise you.
🌿 *Quotes to ponder*
_I've always the feeling that life loves the liver of it. You must live and life will be good to you, give you experiences. They may not all be that pleasant, but nobody promised you a rose garden. But more than likely if you do dare, what you get are the marvelous returns._
_Courage is probably the most important of the virtues, because without courage you cannot practice any of the other virtues, you can't say against a murderous society, "I oppose your murdering." You got to have courage to do so._
Do not let any of the upcoming changes remove your love for life.
🌿 3. *Pay closer attention*
-
Nathaniel has become very drawn to the analog world.
*Some final thoughts from me* 🌿
- More creativity
- Less reaction to notifications
- Walk bearfoot on the ground
- Lift heavy objects
- Play with the dog
- That won't sacrifice anything
The monkey brain is inside all of us in some capacity. The incessant internal dialog. Like an irritating roommate that you have in your head and we can all think back to say, elementary school. Fix it: capture your monkey mind, its complaints or insecurities on paper so that it is not caught on repeat for the rest of the day. Start journaling.

Thank you for reading!

Hey Nathaniel, french 24-old girl here, I want to thank you for all the videos you did this year. When you spoke about leaving RUclips I was soooo sad, because your videos help me, inspire me, I watch all of them, you're like a mentor to me ! Thank you !
omg i didn't expect to see pick up limes here! love her
I absolutely adore your passion for LIFE.
YESSSS, i dont want to play this waiting game anymore. I want to continuously start taking more action and do that more in 2021 and years to come
I've missed your videos so much. You're my permanent go to Nathaniel, thank you for all our beautiful content, messages and kindness
“We’re waiting for things to pass until things go back to normal. But things aren’t going back to normal.”
Oof.
i know it can def feel like we're putting moments on hold with the current sitch, but it's about those little moments in your day like your cup of tea in the morning, hearing a funny word that makes you think of a past memory/someone, or seeing the joy on someone's face when they talk about their passion that can bring that spark and sense of presence. Creating presence changes everything
Throughout the entire video I was screaming “Yessss” and snapping my fingers cause someone else gets it!
Such a powerful message, Nathaniel. I don’t want to waste any more time, anymore.
Love your aesthetic, your style and man you’re so young and so fine. I was a complete mess at your age, so mature and intelectual! Bravo
Been here since „How to reinvent yourself in 2019“
lol same.... how many times did you reinvented yourself?
@@affanshaikh8492 😂
Same
LOL
😂
Enthusiastic acceptance of everything that happens to me. That's Gold man🙏 I'm gonna try that approach from here on out. Stay blessed Nathaniel!
Keep going with the yearly self reinvention videos! I think this would be a cool tradition that you could look back on one day.
You are my light, always spark my thoughts in a direction I relish.
It's funny to see all those footage of The Netherlands while I'm Dutch. Really great shots though! =D
"inderdaad"
Inderdaad
Inderdaad!
it's so interesting that you guys use the expression "inderdaad" because in German we say "in der Tat":D
I want to become your friend and spend time travelling together, chatting, exploring things and just joggling. You inspired me to do things I was afraid to start to do. Thank you!
i will forever love the random b rolls in nathaniel's videos
Yet another video filled with so much wisdom and presented with such grounded Energy, your work is so appreciated. And what an awesome surprise to know that you were friends with Sadia!! Of course you are!!! 🥰
I just want to say that I see a big difference from Nathaniel from 2019 to 2020 and I love it. You are growing and it's so noticeable! Meraki for you 😊

Whoa.
Nathan you’re the best!! I love your brightness, your appreciation of the nuance of life, and your courage to be bold.
Nice video. Recently reflected on what you say at 4:46. I'd also rather waste less time with mind wondering and focus on the present moment :)
Love this! It's refreshing to hear other people talk about the info overload in a way that is balanced and well thought out. You apply language like a surgeon. Beautiful.
The only 2 “secrets” to success that ever existed on this earth:
1. NEVER GIVE UP
2. FIND A WAY
You should know that you inspire people to take risks in a very powerful and positive way. Also analogue methods of documentation are so fulfilling, I love producing videos using these formats. Thank you for all that you do for your viewers Mr. Drew! :)
I also created a video about best habits for 2021 with reinvention in my mind. The new year is another chance for a new self. I'm super pumped 💪💪💪💪
Rewatching this vid for February. I guess I'll come back here every month to keep track that I'm internalizing and applying the insights I've learned in my life from this video. I just really love the way you share your thoughts, I ended up creating a playlist full of your videos. Continue creating such inspiring videos, sir!❤💕
i remember being so excited for 2020 last year while watching your video at an airport... only to free fall into this unproductive slump of a year lmao
Baha same. Fingers crossed for a better one in 2021!
This was wholesome and your energy/pursuits are recieved and so appreciated, write that book
Another great video lad!
Keep on making lemonade Nathaniel! Cheers! Can't wait for that book. I can wait, but ya know what I mean.
