I always thought extinction was that game mode nobody could forget, due to how different and unique it was compared to what was usually Zombies in CoD
I would wager that the grind is what turned people away, that and the difficulty spikes for all the other maps probably didn't help either.

@@MathewWithOne_T Which if you ask me, Activision needs to do another experiment like Nazi Zombies started as, zero mention of it and this kind of gamemode could be used to mix up the gameplay loop, or mix Nazi Zombies into the actual multiplayer that way both teams have something else to worry about while still doing the objective of whatever gamemode they're playing, or they could make it so one team's survivors and the other's the Nazi Zombies themselves.

@@MathewWithOne_T They could honestly pull it again I think. Make the difficulty curve slightly easier and less reliant on grindy teeth. I think grinding for teeth is fine but if it was a lot easier to get them that'd be cooler. I love hard maps like Exodus, cause it fits the tone of the story and the environment and the impossible odds you face.
I've seen a few creators cover this mode and it's a shame that it's likely never going to get additional development... it was a great alternative to zombies. Lore, gameplay, progression, it had a very solid foundation to work from! If only Ghosts hadn't flopped so damn hard.

Man, I love Extinction so much. I never could get into Zombies, but Extinction just clicked for me. Such satisfying progression throughout the levels, and the teeth upgrades really give it that chase factor.
Don't feel too bad about not being able to beat the last 2 levels, they are very, very difficult. I've only beaten them a couple of times and it took a good 20 hours of attempts to get there, especially on Exodus. The last section of that map where you defend the rocket that is leaving Earth is a real doozy.
Using relics also give you extra teeths after finishing a match with em

Having now finished the video I just want to add that as a pretty average gamer, I've only ever been able to solo up to Awakening, and that I only ever soloed once because it was really fucking hard. Exodus I got to the final stretch and just got bodied every time because I didn't have double class or slayer ammo yet and the solo grind to them was agonizing. Beating Mayday solo is a hell of a feat though given you didn't do it with a group at all first to help learn the maps, massive props for that.

@@BeginTheEnd570 I can only solo Exodus consistently but it takes about a good 45-50 minutes to run it lol. With exodus, your best friend is the Disruptor can’t stress that enough !

This game mode was so underrated and I would do anything for this mode to be its own game. Shame it was brought down by the stigma of cod ghosts and the fact it wasn't zombies which turned people off.

But in DRG you also have world manipulation

I remember that the BIG call to fame with Extinction was that the UI took multiple paths to reach you instead of the shortest possible route like zombies. The climb boxes, double back, ect. And its strange how this feature seems to be often forgotten with how much they hyped it
Don’t forget the crazy plays the other enemies take. Scorpions will actually target your already downed teammates and the drill with their gas to make it harder for you to revive them.
@@anomaloushedidntdoit The AI of the Aliens (Yes I know in lore they aren't aliens) were insane at times. When Scorpions spawned in, IIRC around a quarter of them would also prioritize your sentry turrets and IMS to get rid of your defenses, Scouts and seekers would just swarm and destroy, the Hunters, while numerous, would stay behind scouts, letting them soke up bullets before getting to you, and Rinos were walking tanks that required a whole team to kill usually.
Regarding the final 2 maps solo, I loved running them alone. I'd succeed 25% of the time. Don't feel bad about not being able to complete them! I had to memorize strategies for EVERY. SINGLE. HIVE., and I had to use actual math planning to figure out when and what to purchase. Absolute sweatfest.

Yeah on Exodus I had specific routes I would take for solo because it offers different ways to progress around the map and I would always start off going to the left or right gate, never the front one cause when ever I did I failed rather quickly so I just considered it bad luck to go that way.

Im so glad someone actually analyzed this mode for how it innovated and not just because it was attached to the Ghost package i always loved all the new things Extinction brought to the table and how it tried to be different from zombies and build off of their formula and the progression to get those teeth wasnt terrible, i hate how in the Act Mans video he didnt really pick apart the mode and try it for what it was he just skimmed over it i could go on and on in agreement about your points and i gotta say that in general grinding this mode with my buds back in the Ps3 days are some of my fondest gaming memories

In Summer 2020 I played Ghosts for the first time since May 2014, I got to experience Awakening and Exodus for the first time along with the few new changes and modes. On my new account, I got from Level 1 to Prestige 13 within two months. Imo it is the most under appreciated mode in cod. People need to give the difficulties, relics, tooth upgrades, 5 maps, and Chaos mode a try, as compared to playing Point of Contact on Regular difficulty once with no relics and no tooth upgrades.

I think my favorite extinction moment was at the end of its life doing the Easter egg with the never soft eyes and getting the stuff required to get the goodbye video from neversoft. It was bittersweet seeing a development team give their final goodbye to fans of the studio.

If you're willing to play on easy difficulty, it makes Awakening and Exodus a lot more do-able solo. It feels more like "singlepayer mode" to me. :)

I remember the one time i beat the boat. Heard our freezer warning that it was too warm, had to bail and help empty it out. Took 30 min and the other 3 randos I matchmade with waited for me. Then I came back and it got tense but we beat the Kraken. Would have felt so bad if we wiped. Greatest memory of that game mode.
21:31 as someone who recently sat down and did this grind a few years ago, for me at least I was averaging 12-14 teeth every 42 minutes depending on if I was running 2-5 relics in my games of point of contact since playing with more relics = more teeth but now I'm max rank with every armory upgrade.
If you know what you're doing you should be able to consistently manage a solo game of point of contact with pistols only, smaller wallet, no machines and do less damage, perhaps the one where you take more damage too. I will say if you're choosing to grind point of contact one of the most underrated teeth upgrades has to be sniper deadeye, I for real slept on the VKS for years but now its my main primary weapon on the map alongside the bulldog as my 2nd primary.
I loved playing Extinction, it was a nice change of style from zombies and I also love zombies. One main problem I had with the mode though was finding players to play with. Reason behind this is probably because of Ghosts bad reputation.
Just wanna say I love the FF14 /general FF music inputs from the editor, always brings a big fat smile to my face hearing joyous battle music from the ol’ 14, thank ya kindly!
Last year, me and my friends went through all of the dlc maps. It was the first time for all of us and it was super fun. I wish we could see a return of Extinction but I don't think that will happen.
I Love Extinction. Played the Hell out of it back in the day. Hell, I still have COD: Ghosts installed for both that and Squads.

Used to watch my cousin play extinction whenever I came over so seeing an in depth view of want he was playing is pretty cool.
That was nostalgia trip. I remember playing this with my homie on the console back in the days. It was really fun and REALLY hard (especially since I'm a PC player and I always sucked with controller).
Me and my friends still boot up ghosts just for extinction time to time, it's just a classic for us since we're mostly in our early twenties, this and bo 2 were our childhoods
When people ask me what game mode I would want to bring back or which game mode is my favourite I always point to extinction. I always liked the fact that it was something new and changed the formula just enough to be fresh without taking away the core idea, and it was FUN!
What's even worse that there were plans for an Extinction 2 with IW and in MW2019, there are codes made for an Extinction mode that got scrapped that included maps of PoC, Nightfall, Mayday and Descent.
Hopefully in MWII, they can at least give us a surprise Extinction mode.
I liked Extinction and all my friends thought I was a weirdo for it. It was just in Ghost and my buddies didn't want anything to do with it at the time. (Understandable, but Extinction Ironically, was the mode I stuck to playing most on my CoD Ghost Era since I found it pretty cool to run those trials)

When zombies was still at it's high, not many people liked it. But now that Zombies is on the decline, I realized that this mode was better than I initially wrote it off as.

Extinction is so slept on I remember buying the game for my PS4 in 2017 just so I could play POC again. I pray that more people come back to play.

I loved extinction I actually played it so much with all my friends but I really couldn't get good at it and gave up on the underground map

I never expected to hear Fire Emblem ost in a Bricky Video… for those who don’t understand when Bricky was talking about SkySpacer the song Edge of Dawn was blasting in the background
CoD Ghosts certainly feels like it was ahead of its time and severely underappreciated. It wasn't without flaws, but they certainly broke the mould and had some really interesting ideas and new directions
If I were on XBox, I would totally be up to giving you a guided tour. Mayday is by far the easiest map to grind quickly. I would run it in 30-45 minutes with 4 Relics regularly. I'm not quite good enough to run it on hard solo, though I've gotten close.
Some other details to note:
1. More players reduce weapon damage, so it's harder to solo with a team.
2. Relics are modifiers you get from each prestige that make the missions even harder by limiting money, health, damage, class upgrades etc.
3. Changing difficulty also limits those points you get to only when you complete those challenges, and they ramp up the enemies extensively. Point of Contact, Seekers literally rain from the sky as soon as you start the first hive past the barrier hives...
I enjoy Extinction far more because it's actually really challenging and brutal if you don't properly manage your environment, but once you figure it out, the absolute chad status you get from crushing Cryptids in mass is addicting.
I didn’t forget it. What you mean? One of the better ones imo, better than whatever the hell the zombies plot is meant to be. Plus it was more fun imo than the same waves of zombies and dogs. I feel like all my favorite games are the underrated gems , like how no one but me knew what armored core was , tench , Bushido blade , Bojinkai the forsaken city , rouge galaxy , dragons dogma, legend of dragoon etc. chances are if it’s good and obscure I likely played it
Awakening solo hardcore is one of the hardest experiences in COD tbh. I agree the last two maps are HARD they will kick your ass and send you home if you aren't ready. On hardcore you only get skill points for the challenges lol, none for hive completions

The human plot of extinction is extremely lacking in most areas, but the actual mithos and lore of the cryptids themselves is phenomenal
I love the mode so much that I went back to buy all the DLC packs and start the Double Class grind. It took me a few months but I got it and it's god damn amazing

Absolutely hated extinction when I played on Xbox 360 as a kid, never even got past the first barrier, But when I got the game again years later to replay the campaign, I tried extinction and aced through the thing on my first attempt with strangers.

Ghosts to this day is actually my favorite CoD from the Multiplayer, Campaign and of course Extinction too, I remember being so into Extinction growing up I even looked into all the lore and secrets associated with the DLC maps so seeing this video was a great surprise
The fact that bricky was playing Apex of the world from Fire Emblem Three houses at 23:07 put the biggest smile on my face.
I'm glad Extinction got it's time to shine. Ghosts was a personal favorite of mine back when I was in High School and there were parts I loved and parts I didn't, but Extinction was a great mode they experimented with and wish they'd go back to instead of relying on zombies all the time. I remember doing the ending of Exodus back in the day on the 360 with randoms, we had partied up and decided to beat the map.
At the end we all were going down constantly trying to defend the rocket and the Medusa and once it launched we all erupted in scream’s because we were genuinely there for around 5 hours trying to beat it in one sitting.

It’s July 2024 and I’m still playing extinction. Granted it’s a lot of solo because you can’t trust people to play it like you would want to, but it’s still somewhat active, on the base map especially.
It has great ideas in my opinion and I like how you upgrade your weapon by looting and looking for pieces, the aliens look sick and the variants are good, it has potential to be bigger and better but unfortunately they forgot it exists

My friend, if you like coop mission based games with lots of progression and build variety I highly recommend Payday 2. I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into its heist simulating, wave slaughtering and optional stealth gameplay. Payday 3 is also coming out this month so if you enjoy it, I’m sure covering that would be good content! Cheers :)
I distinctly remember me and my buddy doing couch co-op on extinction for hours on end. We were nowhere near good enough for the pain in the ass difficulty spike this game had but it was fond memories regardless.
My friends and I are actually doing a run on Extinction currently, we're on the last map currently and it's like a legit challenge in the sense of it's balanced well with teammates... Rather than zombies "They just get more health"

The first 3 maps are a lot of fun with friends. Point of Contact is too easy, but all dlcs onward (depending on your skill and number of players in lobby) can get hard very fast. My favorite map was mayday.

I honestly loved extinction, I still remember how happy and proud I was beating the whole first map by myself when I was in 4th grade and watching the nuke go off.
I love how the game will slap you on the first game if you try to mess around with evac. I remember jumping around and goofing off and just got swarmed in seconds
For the Mayday pipe part, focus on the top ones. I planted a sentry gun next to one and camped near the other side. Eventually, I just stood in the middle of the catwalk and blasted my Venom-X sparingly when they got overrun. You only need to fully protect 1 pipe, with this, both top ones were still green.
I only ever had the first level as a kid, but some of my earliest Xbox One cod memories was playing that map with strangers online

I loved extinction. I beat each map hardcore public lobby solo. It’s definitely a good time but man is it hard af. Once you get really good at it and help out noobs. There is no greater feeling in video games.
Extinction was neat. I never got into it enough to get the other maps, but I liked it.
This might be a pipe dream, but this video makes me want a COD spin off game that was all of the co-op game modes collected into one game. WaW Zombies, Black Ops Zombies, Extinction, even the newer ones like Cold War and Vanguard for completion's sake. It would be cool and would make it easy to find players for these modes.
it took me bout 90 hours but i was able to beat all the maps solo the loadout that i used was medic cause the damage of the weapon specialist is nice on solo but you are going to be getting rawdogged by the 3 different criptids on most other maps because they ramp SO fast so the quick healing of the medic along side the medic class ability ( the one you buy with teeth) along side the fact the 3 class upgrade makes you immune to spiters sadly they still do contact damage but the cloud doesn't hurt you . number 2 riot shield so that when you are taking a beating you just turn around heal as medic reload then turn back around and let loose on um . also would be cool to play with people cause ya its a co op game . love your videos . this video is nice it feels good to see someone to talk about a game that i was an addict for

I adore Ghosts. It was my first CoD game and it plays better than any of the others I've played since. The campaign is SO MUCH FUN (the mission where you zipline onto a building, the jungle mission, and the breaking into the facility one are personal highlights) and I could never get past the second zone of extinction lol
I played the crap out this mode. When they added teeth and relics it added so much replay value. Sadly the good teeth upgrades I think were locked behind the season pass, but it was fun. I remember the feral Easter egg too where you only had to buy it once, so the lol EE, and only time you had to buy it all game as long as you didn’t go down. I never got the two class tooth upgrade, but man that was a game changer if you got that.
so many good memories in extinction. That final map was the only one I couldn't beat solo. Thanks Bricky, I'm gonna have to relive some of those times

I only play Extinction on Call of Duty: Ghost cause of what our Brick said here, genuinely would love to see it come back
1 thing I wanna mention is that stacking works as well
Like if 2 armor people can be great but situational but it can give more armor
Flame and explosive great for crowd control

The turret, aka anti spam or a eye to help you guard the drill
Lowkey, the entire video is just Bricky asking for a total CoD Extinction Party because he wants to beat one of the best goddamn non-zombie horde modes in the CoD series.
I forget what it was exactly, part of either leveling or a personal challenge thing you could set. It involved you becoming a less effective member of the team by restricting your loadout, class and support abilities, to the point where you'd have the least kills in a run, but the highest score. Was it the relics?
I vaguely remember the teeth, I think they were the only reason I got the initial 1000G for the game, mainly because I was matched with decked out people farming the first map XD
This brings me back I remember being like 10 at the time and me and my brother loved call of duty and he saved up a ton of money at the time for the midnight release and I remember staying up late to see him come home with the special edition which had the metal case and we played extinction till sunrise

It's nice to see some love for this game mode. My father and I have been playing it for years, and I remember us making videos when I was younger. Very underrated and should definitely come back.
I used to play it extinction with my brother. It was wonderful cause I have lost the ability to enjoy grinding zombies, unlike him, but extinction was such a good alternative (that we found years after release) it's sad they didn't iterate on it more.
Damn shame we probably won’t see a continuation on this setting since Infinite warfare only used it as a zombies map making it “movie” in that universe plus the co-op modes infinityward makes nowadays are more in line with their spec ops mode or trying to added to their overall modern warfare story. It’s a shame cause they had the co-op class system in MW that they could use that or something similar to Cold War zombies upgrade tree
Extinction is like the perfect min-maxer'ing hyperfixation-having primo aspie's game mode (that's me btw, I am all of those things)
Finding out all the little tricks and strategies to get through the mode and survive the most difficult/annoying challenges (flare works against the leper ;) ) is genuinely fun
I used to do ridiculous challenge runs back in the day like running 3+ relics on hardcore mode and completing all challenges just because I wanted to see if I could do it (failed a hell of a lot of times in the process for sure though)
Extinction is a mode tailor made only for extreme diehards of... extinction
...which unfortunately makes it super hard to recommend to other people (the price point of it being $40 for the digital hardened edition at it's absolute cheapest on a sale doesn't help either)
I love this mode immensely, it's super underrated, which is sad because the deeper intricacies of it have almost no exposure anywhere online simply because no one popular made any kind of content for it outside of "haha worse zombies, lame mode gtfo", which is a shame
