The silver lining about the paywalled weapons is that if one person in your lobby has them, everyone in the lobby can use them. If you have a buddy or two that consistently plays the game with you, it might be worth it for one of you to buy the ultimate edition for all the weapon packs.

    • @PhoenicopterusR

I gotta say, as long as a company can prove that even the littlest of dev, the simplest intern, will receive a living pay, im all for paying for support dlc. Like Deep Rock, GhostShip is very honest with what happens with their money, they have stated how they spend it in streams before, so im comfortable giving them my money above the standard purchase. You get to see how they spend it in the games they are working on. Versus companies like blizzard which requires you to shovel them cash just to play a janky mess of a game then shoveling that money to fight harassment cases in court.

It's important to remember something in regards to Killing Floor 2 though: Most of the DLCs and updates from the past years were not made by the original devs, or even the original company. That work has been outsourced to a third party (who do a pretty poor job) and the community, who's contributions tend to get butchered for no good reason. The microtransactions have become almost entirely predatory whilst requiring the bare minimum amount of effort put into new content.
2 Of the community members who had their levels added officially even spoke out about how many unnecessary, detrimental, and just poor-quality changes the studio made to their levels prior to official implementation, all while COMPLETELY ignoring every bit of feedback from those very same level designers.

    • @shemsuhor8763
      @shemsuhor8763 11 месяцев назад +2

No, these are not justifiable practices at all. It's not okay when Blizzard or EA do it, and it's not okay when Tripwire does it. Period. You tell me how you can be okay with Tripwire doing it but not Tencent? I'll wait. This is a zero-sum game. You cannot, logically, be mad at EA or Ubisoft for doing stuff like this, but turn around and tell me "well, poor wittle Twipwire is okay to do it, they're just a small wittle team of cutesy developers UwU." Ubisoft is a giga-corporation; don't they have even more employees and even more mouths to feed, which just justifies their shit practices even more, than Tripwire, then?
You cannot have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too with this. Software-as-a-service is a disgusting model and it's embarrassing to see how weak consumers have become over the years on this topic. I guess the "you will own nothing and you will be happy" future really is inevitable, at this rate.

I always think the most interesting part about KF2 is the lore implications that build up from the first game, purely built on worldbuilding alone.
KF1's lore was basically "Mad scientist fucks a military trial up and the clones go bananas." KF2's lore takes that implication and dials it all the way to 11.
Basically, the teams sent in during KF1 failed to contain the spread, but Horzine (the super evil corporation during god-knows-what) has spread globally, taking their problems with them. The world is fucked in KF2, and to make matters worse, they didn't just use The Patriarch's plans, but also the writings of a *checks notes* ....Thule Society Nazi who became obsessed with the occult.
You may think that last part is a joke. It isn't. Volter was a nazi who did some Hellboy shit in the 40s, and we know this because of his map (Volter's Mansion) is littered with occult stuff, and also Volter has a Black Sun on his chest.

I watched a hand full of videos from Bricky (mostly of games im interested in personally (also including a few of the videos after this one was posted)) and I'm commenting on This one specifically specifically to say that he brings up things I usually dont pay much or any thought to. Im a simple person, I play game, if I had a good experience I'd say I enjoy it and dont usually look too deep into it. For instance. MW3 (2023?) Campaign flop was (for me) only because I noted that it was very short and the 'end' was awful (I didn't play Warzone.)
But Bricky opened my eyes to plot holes and other problems that the game had. I appreciate that he expands the view for people like me.

The more recent ones don't feel as lore heavy as they used to. Same thing with the Halloween events but those are more understanding. The Christmas events always held a close place within me. I get that we stopped krampus in the second one but still they could've built up on that alone even more. Still love it though

    Hey Bricky,
Great review, been playing KF2 on since PS4. There was one thing you forgot about that goes with your topic on trusting the Devs.
Now this only applies to the weapons, and though it is a bit of an ask in price, the one thing you didn’t mention is that you can share the weapons you buy while in match. And it allows people whom didn’t buy it to use all those juicy weapons.
So even though I can agree with you, I do think they did certain things that Triple A devs wouldn’t do at all.
Hope you are having a great one man 🎉

My favorite part of the difficulty settings in KF2 is that higher difficulty is not just "more health, more damage" enemies. Yes, they do have more health, yes, they do have more damage, but it's actually not that much. The health of the enemies scales FAR more by the number of players than it does by difficulty.
What mainly makes it harder is that the enemy behavior totally changes. Clots don't just amble towards you; the sprint, dive roll to dodge your hits, and rather than one slow, easily-dodged swipe for an attack, they have multi-hit combo attacks. All enemies are like this--they run faster, hit many times rather than once, actually try to dodge your attacks, and are just infinitely more aggressive. The entire pace of the game changes at higher difficulties, and I love it.

Have almost 2k hours on KF2 and made a ton of friends through the various mods and server discords many of who I'm still in contact with today.
Honestly KF2 has a fantastic core with some of the best combat/gameplay with amazing mechanics like reload cancelling and zed time, different types of CC allowing for combos and takedowns of large zeds and class synergies tying the coop together.
It's such a shame that most of the additions it received over the years showed that they didn't realise what people liked and what made KF2s combat so unique and satisfying and playing the game now it feels spammier and less intense.

As someone who played the game in it's early access form during 2015 and still plays it occasionally, I think Bricky nailed every single gripe I had about the Killing Floor 2. The game itself is pretty solid and still is fun to play, there's no denying that.
Also, adding up a little on the paid weapons:
It used to be that these were only purchasable in-game, but the armory pass somewhat alleviated the issue, if your friend has it - you get the access too. But it's all just... Lazy. If you take any weapon from these paid packs and compared the animations to the ones game shipped with, you can clearly see the lack of quality: the animations are stiff, sometimes visual bugs would appear... And they charge a shitton of money for em. Not to mention that HRG variations, albeit they bring new qualities to the classes and options, at the end of the day they're just boring uninspiring reskins.
I hope they will come around and make Killing Floor 3 the greatest experience, but I'm staying very skeptical after what they've done with Killing Floor 2.
Also, not bringing up "Demon Hunter - Collapsing" in the music segment is criminal.

As someone who has been playing KF2 since 2015, I want to add something to what Bricky ticky Tack said.
1- The micro transaction thing is true. BUT! But, for many things, it is shareable content. Meaning once you have lets say the DLC for the riot shield +glock, you share it to other players in your lobby for free! But it's not for all weapons.
2- The music is amazing but it can get very repetitive after a while, hearing the same 30 ish songs will get old.
3- it can run pretty decently on potatoe PCs. At least in my and my friends' experience.
4- The game is fantastic but I think having maybe a story mode or SOMETHING could be really fun. Even if it's just a bunch of back to back missions with some cutscenes.

    finally someone said it.
I despise people that hate a game just because of the fact that it has microtransactions, that term alongside live service model gets a lot of bad rep for no good reason. The concepts themselves are good, you can pay money for cosmetics, and get free content for it in the future but its just that so many big games overprice their skins and implement these things badly that for "gamers" the terms are now synonymous with a bad game.

Additionally, I like Trip Wire, I don't love them because for about a year there was a runaway memory leak that made KF2 unplayable for me, but you don't have to buy the DLC to benefit from it, because those who do share it with the whole lobby.

Another fun fact about KF2: It preloads the assets for _all_ levels at application start rather than loading the necessary assets of a level being played on; so for some people who didn't install it on an SSD or fast hard drive, the game will launch significantly slower at times taking up to half an hour due to the sheer amount of maps. The reasoning behind this choice was to lower load times between matches and faster getting into gameplay/action after boot up.
The downside is that the boot up time gets worse for every new map that gets added that mostly has new assets.
I for example used to have the game installed on an external drive in case a friend wanted to have the game installed but didn't have the net speed to do so. Launching the game from that drive made it boot up really slow and it got to the point after a major update that added a new map that it outright took an hour to launch.
So heads up for anyone installing the game in a regular hard drive or so.

the traditional guns are all there and you can tier up all the way using them. They are all the original guns. The weirder stuff was added later for variety and a lot of them are the HRG (the ugly white and blue versions) variants of other weapons that they reskinned and made dual perk. so the blast brawlers are the fists for the berserker, but with the heavy attack replaced with shotguns, it can be used effectively by both the berserker and support. They have done this with most HRG weapons and have taken some of the old weapons and made them cross perk. I can't remember the name of the assault rifle the demo has, might be an m16 with underslunk m203 grenade launcher, but it was made cross perk with the commando. Its been awhile but I think they made an HRG version of that for the firebug that shoots incendiary ammo and the grenade is a napalm grenade. Lots of weird, fun stuff like that. Personally my favorite is to take the mosin-nagant because it can block and stab with the bayonet, and play as survivalist and take the sniper reload perk and the extra melee damage perk so I'm both a fast reloading sniper and powerful melee attacks that both benefit the mosin-nagant. Lots of fun stuff you can do and if you just wanna take some traditional SMGs or rifles or whatever you can. I hardly ever use the weird stuff.

Imo most of the dlc weapons aren't that necessary to win the game. I bought 2 dlc to unlock all the weapon. Btw,this game have sharing content thing that allows you the share dlc weapons with your teammates so if one person have weapon dlc, all the teammates can access all the weapon in the game (buy the weapon)

It should also be noted that companies employ the use of purposefully confusing microtransaction menus and currencies to convince the player why it's a smarter/easier solution to just outright buy the product. If the devs were told to design one that was more straightforward, people would then understand how to game the system to get things like emotes for free

overall still a absolute blast, especially if you get it on sale (can get the game with both season passes to have all the guns for like $30) (or if one of your friends has it already bought them you can use the DLC guns when you play with them)
