I really wanted Leon and Ashley to thank the merchant just once before going to the final boss. Would have honestly cried at that, man. Merchant is the ultimate bro.
"Thank you, merchant, for everything." "What?" "You know? Providing me with all that guns and shit." "Huh? Oh! Hahaha! Stranger, there's a few of us here! This is our first time meeting each other." "Eh?"
How often exactly have you written this comment already, because I swear I saw you under like 90% of all the RE4R content telling everyone about Ashley Ladderphobia in the OG.
The best part of watching Bricky's streams of this was seeing him go from grinning ear to ear to tensing up so hard in fear in the span of under a second.
90% of the streams could be summarized by: > Something weird/horrifying happens > Bricky makes a scared/tense face > Leon makes a dumb joke > Bricky chuckles a bit and says "goddamit Leon" (No, seriously, you could have put a "goddamit Leon" counter on those streams and it would have easily hit the double digits)
8:10 I'm sure you noticed at times where some encounters gave more ammo, healing items, and support items vs others that gave mainly money. That's actually a background system of the original RE4 where it calculates your inventory and makes adjustments to the item drops accordingly. Got too much ammo at the end of encounter? Heres a bunch of money drops. Barely scraping together a full Mag? Here's enough ammo to level the starting village. It's brilliant for tension.
@@marvinn6044 you're thinking of adaptative difficulty. Wich is an different system altogether. Leon's the type of guy who if you were to ask him to pass you the mustard, he'd do a finger trick with it, toss it under and over himself, then slide it across the table to you, even though you're right next to him.
Fr. Remember when he's about to open a door and then suddenly a chainsaw cuts through it? Instead of just jumping backwards like a normal person would, Leon does a backwards kick flip off of the door to move backwards Leon is just so extra and I love him for it. 😂
My favorite non-cheesy line was actually from Salazar’s boss fight. When you have him on the ropes and he calls you a “tiny, sickly half wit who should have never been born”, you can tell he projects how he sees himself onto you and it’s such a great character moment for him.
I love that Leon's goofy one-liners doesn't make him sound cocky anymore. It makes him sound like he's coping with how screwed he was. Same as Ashley in the knights section
Honestly, I came to that conclusion too. Like, RE4 remake Leon sounds like he’s bullying the Plagas victims sometimes, but it sounds like he’s doing it because he’s trying to get out some stuff he had gone through from RE2, you know? Like it feels like he’s working through some past trauma when he says “Aw, Sorry!” Or “Present for you!” In this game
It's easier to notice the differences when you see OG Leon for the character he really was all along. OG RE4 Leon in reality was Dante from the Devil May Cry™ Series. I mean, considering DMC was originally going to be RE4, OG RE4 Leon is the closest we'll ever get to getting a DMC x RE crossover assuming Dante only has his human side. Remake Leon is... well, Leon. You can play DMC 1 and just assume that Dante is Leon with extra skills, and you'll notice that there aren't really any character differences. So I get why people prefer the original over the remake, to them it feels like losing Dante for another character, but it feels to me like the original wasn't the true intentioned character development for Leon.
The awesome thing about Krauser's voice acting in this is that if your look up his "I can't wait to see you writhe!" line, the VA does a fucking death metal scream.
the parry system was originally supposed to be only in the Krauser fights, but they love it so much that they implemented for the whole game, meaning the Krauser fight was at a time, a primary focus of the remake, which make sense because both Krauser fight was fucking amazing
Not a veteran but not exactly a rookie either. He's fought his share of terrorist assholes & monsters before Spain after joining the DSO. As someone mentioned below, Operation Javier where he & Krauser went through hell to save a girl who was experimented on. Also, the catalyst that turned Krauser into the power-hungry nutjob we see here because of his fears & hatred of being relatively powerless in the face of man-made monsters.
I actually think the Krauser's part in the story is pretty satisfying. Its a teacher vs student dynamic that actually got me emotional for a bit. Leon KNOWS Krauser, and having to kill someone you respected at one point isn't something anyone should ever have to deal with.
I feel like they did give more backstory to the villains because if you read the documents you get a lot of how they became who they are. The big cheese & Sadler specifically.
The first time I saw one of them pull himself back together and awakening as an Iron Maiden I practically shat myself because I used the last of my rifle ammunition sniping the parasites. Then a second Regenerator broke containment. Then a third. Then Ganados showed up.
Bricky might be my favorite channel I've found this year, top tier content man. Not sure if you do the editing, but it's gold. Give the editor a raise if you got one lmao.
I love the fact the merchant never stops talking, because if you menu his shop really fast you can get some really endearing lines like: "Give your enemy PLEASANT TRAVELS" "This may be the only FINE CHOICE STRANGER" "Not my place to say but COME BACK ANYTIME" and more
Bricky, I gotta say your content has turned into some of my favorite stuff on RUclips. Came for the Warhammer vids, stayed for everything else. Keep it up, bro.
I am completely unsure if that’s how Ada’s VA sounds but it feels to me like she’s recording with completely different equipment in a completely different environment, like she sounds completely different from every other character.
I still remember someone saying the biggest villain in resident evil was whoever gave Leon a drivers licence. Like the man crashes every vehicle he drives at some point.
Krauser is actually massively developed in the remake, it's just that parts of it are more subtle. Go watch the video analysis someone made on him titled Krauser, the dark reflection and you will realize just how many nuances they added to him. Also, Ashley is now fully a "heroic civilian" archetype (the same kind of character as Sandra Bullock's in the movie Speed). She is honestly very impressive as a person now when you think about how much she does that is really hard for her to do, because unlike Leon she is not highly trained or experienced. Her progression is also wonderful to watch as you go. In the village she is terrified and skittish and Leon thinks about their situation purely tactically, in the castle she opens up a bit more and Leon's word choice when talking to her also changes, making the two feel much more like companions, and in the island she becomes considerably more brave and proactive, jumping enthusiastically at any chance she can find to do something to help, and Leon shifts from telling her to do something to asking her. Both Leon and Ashley also puts the safety of the other at a higher priority than themselves on multiple occasions. In Leon's case it's fairly obvious, and in Ashley's case there are a number of occasions but the three most standout ones are the part where Saddler mind controls her and she runs away from Leon specifically to prevent herself from hurting him, the Ashley gameplay segment where she ventures into the fucking armadura infested mausoleum to help Leon, and near the end of the game where she tells Leon to use the surgical machine first. They are both clearly shown to care about each other on a personal level and their growing friendship is really good to see.
14:04 “I didn’t remember these from the original” But like… how? That wheezing gasping breathing noise is seared into my brain on a deep visceral level since my first play though of the original 18 years ago.
my favorite thing about these games is that they learned alot from Dino Crisis' gunplay. you could move and shoot; and honestly for an old game like that, i thought that it was Revolutionary and now it's standard in games, it's perfect to say dino crisis' gunplay was ahead of it's time.
I really appreciate you bringing up the fault of Ada's voice being on the voice director; if they didn't like how she said a line then they would have asked her to do it again. I really liked Lily Gao's performance as Ada and I really hope that she's brought in again to voice her more
Aye, though her response to the criticism leaves something to be desired. And I really would like to assume that it really was all on the voice director, but the fact is there's a possibility it was still her fault. This is biased as fuck and I'm characterizing her with only the response to go off of but: If she is someone's brat or got into acting through something other than skill (I'm chiefly suspecting quota hires) or any other reason she could be an actress without the skill, and/or the voice director didn't have the backbone to set her straight while she was tryina do "the correct ada wong" then you can easily get the current situation, where she turned in an embarrassing performance and it got left in. Point is, while I would like to believe that the voice director is at fault here, we can't discount the possibility that gao is just unpleasant and petulant to work with, since this could explain her reaction.
Skill Up in his review said she sounds "sad" because she's working for Wesker and clearly doesn't want to be there. I think her character/performance is much better when viewed in that light.
@@chukyuniqul Did you even see how people were treating her? Wouldn’t be surprised if there were death threats, since that always happens. I would be pissed too by some of the things people were saying.
My problem is not with her voice but the way she delivers lines. She sounds lifeless or tired in most cases. And I really want to put the blame on the voice direction as well except, the fact is, none of the other actors have any delivery problem (objectively speaking) and if you look her up in interviews, you’ll notice this is how she actually talks, so I’m assuming the voice director was aware of that
@@Sanguinius876 okay, let's assume that to be the case. There are then two possibilities, both of them not good looking: 1-she was not in control of herself, meaning her choice of going for the race and gender card was her first instinctive choice. 2-she WAS in control of herself, meaning the race and gender cqrd was something she deliberately chose to play. Either way, not a good look. Pulling any such card outside of directly addressing bigots (which simply can't be the case for most people criticizing her acting) is a cheap way to acquire sympathy. Just...don't pull those cards unless directly relevant. Seriously, it's such clear deflection. And shows that she takes issue with being criticized rather than just the ones being actual prolapsed assholes. Which shows she's arrogant. Which she lacks the receipts to afford.
I remember the first time I encountered the Regenerator back in the original resident evil 4. That ragged breathing gave me nightmares. And it took me till 3rd playthrough to realize that you can use the thermal scope to see the virus in the body practically, trivializing the whole encounter
Now that you finished RE4, if you are looking for a new game, I suggest Dredge, it has overwhelmingly positive (which, you know) and I can confidently say its one of the best games I played recently You are a fishermen, that ends up In an mysterious place, you go travelling around the map meeting different people and slowly advancing towards the end of the game, with a whole bunch of surprises along the way. This game is very calm and relaxing most of the time, until the night falls, when you start seeing weird stuff all over the sea, which might peek your curiosity, until you get close to whatever you are looking at and realize its too late. As I said the game can be very calm and relaxing, but that doesn´t remove the fact that this game has some eldritch/lovecraftian horror, which make a really good and original mix I highly recommend you check it out. Im sorry if this was a little long or confusing, but trust me, the game is at least worth a shot.
i agree with your ghibli takes. princess mononoke, to me as well, remains as the most solid piece of ghibli cinema. however, kiki's delivery service stays closer to my heart.
I really liked the Merchant's "guess breaktime is over", because it sounds like he's eating a sandwich. My Brother in Christ, how is he eating a sandwich through his mask...
My Brother in Christ!? Good to see another of the great flock of pimps from the church of Fleekazoid! I hope you like Fleekazoids videos otherwise I will seem like a madman! 🤣
The entire game was a Rollercoaster ride of fun. Getting to hear and see the remake of the sunglasses-wearing mad lad that is Wesker is just icing on the cake.
The Ada voice problem is weird because even the voice director getting blamed doesn't make sense either since every other characters in the game kills it except her. Either Ada for some reason had a inept director solely for her character or it actually was a VA issue as much as people don't want to admit it.
I think the VD makes sense, because I do see the same problems with a lot of characters (Leon, Saddler, Krauser) that I have with Ada. I also heard - tho not sure if it's confirmed - that they prioritised the race of the actress during casting which doesn't make much sense for Ada. But I do think that there was ultimately a problem in direction where they made an effort to tone down the flirting (which might be a whole other issue) and it affected the whole attitude of Ada towards Leon. It seems like they wanted Ada to kind of put Leon down but it makes it very hard for the VA to get the tone of the lines right.
I love the felling of being low on resources and generally spooked and then seeing a purple light in the distance, ensuring some safety and comfort is nearby
Krauser was absolutely the best thing about this remake, he was phenomenal, his tragic story, his tension and dialagues with leon, like it's actually a mentor and student relationship, hell you even feel bad when you kill him, besides that he is the best boss fight in re history, it's such a unique boss fight, like it was straight out of a duel of fates or Kurosawa samurai duel, like you can't help but fight him with a knife because it's so satisfying. And then the end line: "I trained you well, leon" brought a tear down my eyes, it was the first time he called leon by his actual name instead of just "ROOKIE" the moment where he was proud of leon, it reminds me of the line "defeated by my own son? The feeling is not entirely unpleasant" in sekiro where you defeat owl .not to mention his knife is the best looking knife I have ever seen in a video game.
I think a major issue with the side characters is that most of their development and backstory is done through optional files that you can read. Because most players, myself included, will skip out on that shit because they wanna get back to the game. You get to read about Ramon’s descent into madness and betrayal of his family, due to his manipulation by and faith in Lord Saddler. You get to read about Luis’ tragic backstory about his grandfather killing himself in a fire due to being infected by the plaga, and how Luis’ mind was brilliant and he went on to work for Umbrella and actually helped create Nemesis. You get to learn about Saddler’s bloodline and their history with the Salazars. And none of that is in the story itself, it’s in optional files.
I really don't feel like that's an issue, like, even a little bit. What's the point of RE4? To be a stupid fun kinda game. If you *want* more story it's there, but it dosen't suffer without it. Mayhaps it is because i am the type of person to read every note ever that i don't personally see an issue, but i never got this mentality because i did read similar games notes, and y'know what it contributed? Absolutly nothing.
@@ariannadravis3934 Well, I would say it is more of an issue with RE4 than, say, DOOM and DOOM Eternal, where the majority of the actual _story_ was in the codexes you could read. But the thing with DOOM is that there’s basically no story there at all in the campaign itself, while with RE4, there is a story trying to be told at the forefront. So RE4 should’ve tried to include at least Luis’ stuff by having him live longer, or even Salazar’s with having more in-person encounters with him.
@@Kalina47 They kinda are the same thing, just that one of them is slower. Doom Eternal definetly had a lot of story happening in the forefront, yet didn't explain a lot unless you read the notes.
Every time I've ever explained what I love about this game I've always said the same exact thing about it being just a real God damn video game. Makes no apologies for what it is and instead embraces the medium tropes. We can have an imersive story with a completely unexplained merchant, because upgrading guns in a video game feels good. It's just so God damn earnest, like Leon.
I think the biggest problem with Ada is the sheer fact they chose someone who clearly isnt used to doing voice-work, and I'm not talking about the performance. You can physically hear the difference in audio quality between her and the other characters. That right there tells me she wasnt using the same kind of professional studio/recording environment as everyone else. It wouldnt shock me to learn that the voice director either wasnt present, or at least couldnt set up the same lines of communication they had with everyone else, which would've made actually directing her... difficult at best.
i am frothing at the mouth for an re5 remake, that game is so fun in coop and i don't think people care as much about keeping the original intact, it's just an extremely fun game and the formula set up in this one would be insane for re5
My one complaint which lasted the entire game was the aiming crosshair, I just wanted the lazer sight back and having it as an attachment for only two guns was not enough
There are actually some hidden files which tell Luis and other characters' background story, such as the attic in the firstboss's house, the place where luis got kidnapped, the secret altar and so on.
Bricky I just want you to know that you've quickly become one of my absolute favourite people on this site. I watch every video you make, even on games that I have no interest in and would never play. Your passion for things and the way you show how unabashedly you appreciate things is so welcome and I just simply like it a lot. Props to you!
Developing such a charismatic character through notes and written exposition alone is a missed opportunity. Noone would complain if he had more screen time and backstory
19:14 Yeah his voice actor strongly reminded me of a "military" type character in some old movie I've long forgotten. Like um.. maybe a younger Gary Busey? I can't remember what it was, but they spoke very-Very similiar to Krauser in this game. That line right there.. (19:40) is what I'm talking about. Dang it all, that is SO familiar to some older movie I've seen, I swear. Same setup too, I do recall. Them being on the "hostile" side of the storyline, etc. Anyhow, Yes. Fantastic voice acting on Krauser! 28:20 "They have a cave troll..."
You are the first reviewer I've seen who has echoed my own sentiments regarding the seriousness and silliness of RE4. Like, I get it, some of the most memorable lines from the original RE4 were funny, but partly because they were so bad and dumb. Other reviewers have lamented the revision or removal of some of those lines, saying that the Remake "loses the charm" of the original, but IMO, the charm of the original was not that deeply rooted in bad dialogue. Plus, I think the excuse of "it's a Resident Evil game, so of course it's gonna be goofy and have bad dialogue" can only go so far
Slight spoiler for the game here, but it's a detail I loved: In that scene where Leon is tied up with Luis and the guy with the axe comes in, in the OG if you fail the QTE then the guy kills Leon. In the remake, since most QTEs have been removed, the guy only targets Luis. Probably because Leon had just been infected with the Plaga and Saddler wanted to see if Leon would take to the virus (like Mendez says Leon is a little bit later) and Luis had the Plaga surgically removed from him, so Saddler ordered Luis' death while wanting to keep Leon alive.
I really think it’s a voice actor issue with Ada. You could chalk up every bad actor in any media ever to bad direction if you really want to. Sometimes her lines are good, and sometimes they really aren’t. The inconsistency problem is a problem for both the direction and the actor, not just one or the other. They collaborate in the process to make something good, and in this case, it really wasn’t.
I couldn't disagree with you more on that. RE1R I think set the example that should be followed. I love the RE2/3/4 remakes as games but in my eyes they fail at almost everything a remake should do. RE4R is the best by far as a remake but doesn't come close to how good of a remake RE1R is. I really hope this isn't the standard devs look to follow with remakes.
Funny thing is the most op thing is crouching when there's an incoming projectile just crouch and you're good to go. It's really effective also avoiding enemy grab to conserve some of your knife durability.
On higher difficulties, this doesn’t work anymore. Or is at least half as effective as enemies will fake throws to get you to crouch, or they throw it so it arcs into anyways. Same thing with grabs btw, you can duck under them but this is also inconsistent. Along with this whole game
@@allisonobias4914 love your attempt at a diss lol. I know it’s timing, but what I’m saying is it’s still a toss up if it dodged or not. The game clearly is RNG generator for days with how artificial the difficulty is.
"Smoothness in the RE Engine" Bricky... did you play Devil May Cry 5? That's on RE Engine, and it's got the smoothest, most precise and amazing combat ever!
It really is genius how they adjusted the tempo of the combat for the remake. In the original, you couldn't move and shoot, so enemies were slower, in the remake, you can move and shoot, so now enemies HAUL ASS
It’s new, but isn’t genius by any means. If anything, the game suffers from it. This a fun game by all means, but it’s over/under designed in many ways and works against itself way too often to be a masterpiece.
@@duckieg420_4 so the game suffers because it successfully justifies its existence by modernizing gameplay while raising difficulty appropriately along with it?
@@eiriksundby they modernized the gameplay, but doesn’t mean they got it down completely. Or that it’s perfect or works properly. Also, they didn’t raise the difficulty in such a way that feels intuitive, but rather made it so enemies don’t stun or react to bullets, are MUCH faster than you, they attack multiple at a time so a mechanic such as parrying doesn’t work as intended, you react to attacks for way longer and are constantly stuck in some form of stun animation, the aiming isn’t optimized (pretty much everyone agrees with this especially), the games crosshairs flat out lie, etc. it’s a great game and I enjoy it, but it’s not well designed in maaaaany aspects. There’s a difference between what Capcom intended and what we got
I like that for the merchant and the various notes you find regarding him, you get the idea that he fucking hates Los Ililuminados but it's never explained why.
i have to agree with that section about Ada's VA. when i played she sounded kinda flat and bored, but on my second playthrough i noticed she only sounded like that half the time. Having multiple takes would've made it better. i was hoping they'd fix it with Separate Ways, but i guess not.
I will say that the ammo rationing did break down for me a bit when i got the Red9 stock because i instantly sold my old handgun and maxed its damage. The curve evened out again later but i busted it again with 1.5x damage boost. When i was on the island i was never ever now on shotgun shells
Ayyy another Porco Rosso enjoyer! I live in Croatia, and the views of the sea on a sunny day are incredible. The islands in the movie, there are similar ones in real life and it was really fun to watch and relax.
My personal head canon, the merchant is just Leon finding a massive stockpile of weapons and the parasite implants a lasting hallucination that prevents him from becoming completely overpowered.
I agree that the Merchant should be unexplained. Like, he’s kind of like the mystery of the Dwemer for Resident Evil, a riddle for the ages where no one definitive answer would be enough. I mean hell, they gave him an evil-looking purple torch now. Why? I dunno, I guess they wanted to make him that extra bit weirder.
Shared Opinions - It's brilliant (gameplay, graphics, etc.) - Leon's great - Ashley's great - Luis is better but not great - Krauser is better but not great - Ada's not so great - The campy / serious balance is good - The story is what it is, fun but... - The Merchant is our Beloved Differing opinions - Is the Salazar better? For me no. - Is Lord Saddler worse? Yes (Not sure if everyone agrees with this or not) One thing Bricky didn't touch on for me is the missing calls between Leon and the villians. It allowed them to be fleshed out more whereas now they feel tacked on. I also miss the more cinematic camera angles and angles from the villains-only POV, like when Salazar got angry and sent the Verdugo.
I think Capcom is planning to make a Remake of RE5 i just wonder how they are going to do it. The Combat was similar to RE4 (original) staying still while shooting and melee attacks on stunned enemies. Minus the part about having a partner to help you if you got grabbed. Although i do hope they nail Wesker the boss fights down...yeah im looking at you boulder!
I did enjoy the game, but to me personally, something so valuable, so intangibly necessary, was lost when I came to the horrific conclusion that, no, Leon and Ramon Salazar were not going to riff off of one another over the radio like a couple of Xbox gamers. I did not even get so much as a "YOU'RE small time" or "Writhe in my cage of torment, my friend". The remake is, in fact, lesser from these exclusions, because I will not remember any of the dialogue in a few months, whereas these quips and one-liners and, by extension the experience itself of RE4, will stay with me forever.
So my older brother had an idea with the merchant as the M.C. All you do is race from one shop area to another under a time limit and if you fail Leon dies
i await the day they do an RE5 Remake, because i didn't realise how much i wanted to mash X to punch a boulder until i thought about doing it with updated graphics, physics, and in 60 FPS.

@@TheDrsalvation Yeah. Its exactly how i fell about Leon in both versions. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
The awesome thing about Krauser's voice acting in this is that if your look up his "I can't wait to see you writhe!" line, the VA does a fucking death metal scream.
I really felt like they nailed enough of the OG's spirit and enhanced the new stuff so much that this is a CLASSIC.
the parry system was originally supposed to be only in the Krauser fights, but they love it so much that they implemented for the whole game, meaning the Krauser fight was at a time, a primary focus of the remake, which make sense because both Krauser fight was fucking amazing
Krauser fights were awesome and the parry makes the game for me as a newcomer. If the parry didn't exist I would be so sad lol
Leon went from rookie cop to rookie special agent. he's come a long way from 1998 to 2004.
operation Javier happen in 2001 or 2002 so not exactly a rookie especially since he only got sent on deadly missions.
@@dutchvanderlinde2002 he can't just instantly become a veteran though. that takes alot of experience.
@@CallofDutyBlackOps28 surviving multiple BOW scenarios makes him a veteran. Then there's all the missions he went on we don't know about
He is actually a hardboiled profesional.
Not a veteran but not exactly a rookie either. He's fought his share of terrorist assholes & monsters before Spain after joining the DSO. As someone mentioned below, Operation Javier where he & Krauser went through hell to save a girl who was experimented on. Also, the catalyst that turned Krauser into the power-hungry nutjob we see here because of his fears & hatred of being relatively powerless in the face of man-made monsters.
i like how they kept how big of a HIMBO leon is. yeah, he's cool and all but he is a goddamn hunky dork in the original and i love him for it.
thank you for introducing me to the term himbo, LOL
Leons like the original video game himbo
I actually think the Krauser's part in the story is pretty satisfying. Its a teacher vs student dynamic that actually got me emotional for a bit. Leon KNOWS Krauser, and having to kill someone you respected at one point isn't something anyone should ever have to deal with.
In og I think its more emotional since krauser and Leon have a brothers in arms dynamic
If Mike isn't mentioned once I will commit a single act of violence
Edit: Watch your back Brickster
Could you make it two acts
Make it three
rookie (cop) numbers, make it 7
*Mike, my beloved*
I cant believe how badly they did my boy mike
Amusing note about Luis, the retcon that he worked for the European branch of Umbrella means that he was part of the team that made Nemesis.
I feel like they did give more backstory to the villains because if you read the documents you get a lot of how they became who they are. The big cheese & Sadler specifically.
i think my favorite part of the game is how easily you get lost in nostalgia in this game and smile and laugh an- OH SHIT THATS A REGENERATOR
I love the fact the merchant never stops talking, because if you menu his shop really fast you can get some really endearing lines like:
"Give your enemy PLEASANT TRAVELS"
"This may be the only FINE CHOICE STRANGER"
"Not my place to say but COME BACK ANYTIME"
and more
Yeah but when I'm sitting there deciding he's like "Not seeing anything you like, stranger?" NO MERCHANT IM JUST DECIDING PLS SHUT UP
honestly by this point we need a merch where it's just bricky with the words "my beloved", i would buy
"My personal favourite is Porco Rosso" Bricky proving, yet again, why he is capital B Based
"The law doesn't apply to pigs"
I love that movie as well
Bricky, I gotta say your content has turned into some of my favorite stuff on RUclips.
Bricky, when you see Leon do a flip, you don't ask "why?" you say "please Sir, another."
14:04 “I didn’t remember these from the original”
But like… how? That wheezing gasping breathing noise is seared into my brain on a deep visceral level since my first play though of the original 18 years ago.
If anyone is wondering why the burger in RE2 looks so good. They used the same image capture tech they used for the actors face on a burger.
my favorite thing about these games is that they learned alot from Dino Crisis' gunplay. you could move and shoot; and honestly for an old game like that, i thought that it was Revolutionary and now it's standard in games, it's perfect to say dino crisis' gunplay was ahead of it's time.
speaking of capcom games i'd like to see get remakes...
This is biased as fuck and I'm characterizing her with only the response to go off of but:
If she is someone's brat or got into acting through something other than skill (I'm chiefly suspecting quota hires) or any other reason she could be an actress without the skill, and/or the voice director didn't have the backbone to set her straight while she was tryina do "the correct ada wong" then you can easily get the current situation, where she turned in an embarrassing performance and it got left in.
There are then two possibilities, both of them not good looking:
1-she was not in control of herself, meaning her choice of going for the race and gender card was her first instinctive choice.

Now that you finished RE4, if you are looking for a new game, I suggest Dredge, it has overwhelmingly positive (which, you know) and I can confidently say its one of the best games I played recently
You are a fishermen, that ends up In an mysterious place, you go travelling around the map meeting different people and slowly advancing towards the end of the game, with a whole bunch of surprises along the way.
This game is very calm and relaxing most of the time, until the night falls, when you start seeing weird stuff all over the sea, which might peek your curiosity, until you get close to whatever you are looking at and realize its too late.
As I said the game can be very calm and relaxing, but that doesn´t remove the fact that this game has some eldritch/lovecraftian horror, which make a really good and original mix
I highly recommend you check it out. Im sorry if this was a little long or confusing, but trust me, the game is at least worth a shot.
Seems like the ending is shit
i agree with your ghibli takes. princess mononoke, to me as well, remains as the most solid piece of ghibli cinema. however, kiki's delivery service stays closer to my heart.
I agree, Kiki’s just hits me harder
But her voice is perfectly fine, good even?
I love the felling of being low on resources and generally spooked and then seeing a purple light in the distance, ensuring some safety and comfort is nearby
Merchant my beloved
"Leon why did you do a flip?"
If you can flip, you must flip. it's the rules.
Waiting till they remaster Chris punching a boulder
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Bricky WT Ad, I wasn’t expecting that
10:06 Seeing a purple flame was always a big relief. Some safety and perhaps a shooting gallery to relax
I had the exact same game feeling as Bricky. This game just had me relaxed in a nostalgic way.
Leon Skennedy is just too awesome for silly rules like logic
Honestly, this game is perfect in my opinion, one of the very very few "perfect" games for me 🔥
They do the title drop after you've beaten the game, they also do it if you switch to the "Classic FX" and soundtrack before the game starts.
i am frothing at the mouth for an re5 remake, that game is so fun in coop and i don't think people care as much about keeping the original intact, it's just an extremely fun game and the formula set up in this one would be insane for re5
6:45 I very much expected an evil dead reference but they never delivered 😂
God help those devs who need to remake RE5 and 6
21:21 I couldn't agree more.
The Merchant is just Chris stealing all of Leon's money to buy the steroids needed to be able to punch boulders
It might not be confirmed yet, but an RE5 rebuild overhauled as well as RE4's would absolutely slap. Doubly so if they manage to keep the co-op in.
Truly an amazing game. Pacing, story, balancing, gunplay... And that merchant, a delight every time I saw him.
Me when I saw a regenerator turn into an iron maiden:
ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THAT!!!
Bricky I just want you to know that you've quickly become one of my absolute favourite people on this site. I watch every video you make, even on games that I have no interest in and would never play. Your passion for things and the way you show how unabashedly you appreciate things is so welcome and I just simply like it a lot. Props to you!
I think your opening would change about luis if you read the notes throughout the game.
It develops him greatly without sacrificing gameplay time.
Developing such a charismatic character through notes and written exposition alone is a missed opportunity. Noone would complain if he had more screen time and backstory
@@senseithomesnobody except for the accountants at capcom 😂 animating that shit costs money, remember they’re doing this on a budget.
Subtle story telling. What's that? I only like games story when it's right up in my face.
Shirtless Leon is my beloved
Slight spoiler for the game here, but it's a detail I loved:
In that scene where Leon is tied up with Luis and the guy with the axe comes in, in the OG if you fail the QTE then the guy kills Leon.
Glad to see that you're also a fellow porco rosso enjoyer bricky
I really think it’s a voice actor issue with Ada. You could chalk up every bad actor in any media ever to bad direction if you really want to. Sometimes her lines are good, and sometimes they really aren’t. The inconsistency problem is a problem for both the direction and the actor, not just one or the other. They collaborate in the process to make something good, and in this case, it really wasn’t.
12:51 you described exactly as to how I enjoyed the game so much. It really was like that.
I like to think that, how OG RE 4 revolutionized and set a standard for gaming.
I think the RE 4 Remake set a standard on how Remakes should be made.
I find it crazy that the title read out *IS* actually still in the game, it just only happens if you have the OG Soundtrack enabled
@@duckieg420_4 its all about timing if you're skilled enough it will be piece of cake
@@allisonobias4914 love your attempt at a diss lol. I know it’s timing, but what I’m saying is it’s still a toss up if it dodged or not. The game clearly is RNG generator for days with how artificial the difficulty is.
"Smoothness in the RE Engine"
Bricky... did you play Devil May Cry 5?
I think you've forgotten how good original RE4 is tbh
I like that for the merchant and the various notes you find regarding him, you get the idea that he fucking hates Los Ililuminados but it's never explained why.
Now with RE4 remake such a success, will we have RE 5 remake in its boulder punching glory?
It better have the boulder punching in it because that was the best moment in the game
i have to agree with that section about Ada's VA.
when i played she sounded kinda flat and bored, but on my second playthrough i noticed she only sounded like that half the time.
I will never be mad at how RE4's big bad is named Adam Saddler
I've never had a review be so good I came back to watch it more than once. Thanks Bricky.
Ayyy another Porco Rosso enjoyer! I live in Croatia, and the views of the sea on a sunny day are incredible. The islands in the movie, there are similar ones in real life and it was really fun to watch and relax.
This guy just casually puts Cinder's theme from KI under his ad. What a chad.
My personal head canon, the merchant is just Leon finding a massive stockpile of weapons and the parasite implants a lasting hallucination that prevents him from becoming completely overpowered.
Re4 in vr has been a real blast if you have a vr and want a different experience to the game, only vr in original
I really felt it when Ashley was crying, "This sucks."
So bad, but so appropriate, so real.
This is the game we needed in this day and age loved every second of it got the platinum and I still want more
I agree that the Merchant should be unexplained.

- Leon's great
- Ashley's great
- Luis is better but not great
- Krauser is better but not great
- Ada's not so great
- The campy / serious balance is good
- The story is what it is, fun but...
- The Merchant is our Beloved
Differing opinions
- Is the Salazar better? For me no.
- Is Lord Saddler worse? Yes (Not sure if everyone agrees with this or not)
One thing Bricky didn't touch on for me is the missing calls between Leon and the villians. It allowed them to be fleshed out more whereas now they feel tacked on. I also miss the more cinematic camera angles and angles from the villains-only POV, like when Salazar got angry and sent the Verdugo.
don't blame leon for that grenade! you saw where it was going!
I hope we still get to punch the boulder
Good news Bricky they do have the “Resident evil 4” at the main menu if you bought the original music/sfx dlc from the deluxe edition
"Why use big word when small word do trick?"
Me: "Pat?"
The Original Dialog was always acceptable? What are you talkin about Bricky? xD
Watching you toss that grenade at your feet and then immediately blaming leon was the most side eye shit ever
So my older brother had an idea with the merchant as the M.C. All you do is race from one shop area to another under a time limit and if you fail Leon dies
Ada's new outfit is worn by Lana Kane, from the show Archer.
i await the day they do an RE5 Remake, because i didn't realise how much i wanted to mash X to punch a boulder until i thought about doing it with updated graphics, physics, and in 60 FPS.
The only explanation we need of the merchant is him in a bar drinking with the merchant from village.
Brix, there is a classic SFX feature in the extras tab where you change costumes. That’s how you get RESIDENT EVIL…………….4!!!!!!
