- The TOMY Sonic the Hedgehog line has been around for nearly 3 years at this point. Over those years, they've had countless releases, however, up until now none of those releases were based off of the Modern design of Sonic.
That all changes this year, as TOMY has announced their "Sonic Collector Series" line of figures and plushes, a line that contains both Classic and Modern Sonic. After several delays, their first Modern figure releases are here, and in this video, I take a look at the start of TOMY Modern Sonic, reviewing the Sonic & Knuckles Comic Packs! I also delve into the current state of Sonic merchandise, the end of Archie Sonic, and more!

These are good since I wasn't big on collecting figures when the classic ones came out so now I get both, only downside is that Classic Knuckles' head, like you mentioned, is extremely loose

Sonic Mania has 12 levels there are three endings one when you use the and Knuckles mode and the setting menu that will give you an ending with Knuckles reading a book called and Knuckles there's one where sonic gets sucked into a portal theorist say that that is the portal that brings sonic to Sonic forces and then there's a last ending we're all the characters make it out

I will forever miss Jazwares sonic figures. I have fond memories with them, I had the sonic and blaze comic pack back in spring 2013 and in that December I lost sonic in the ocean as I was in a hot beach down south with my figure. Every time I think of sonic figures I'm always drawled back to that toy and my new sonic figure (free riders glued on with sonics normal shoes and gloves) sucks ass back in 2014, hell his head fell off but it was still jazwares, now I have to get these new figures but I know it's not like the ones I already have, sonics legs look weird on his hips, but I mostly want those comics before it's truly too late.

I really hope that Patmac comes back to video creation.
I would love to hear his opinion on the modern state of Sonic. Especially how Tomy was unfortunately dropped as a partner and Jakks took their stead.
Fortunately, it finally feels like with the popularity of the Sonic movies, that they're finally beginning to claw back some shelf space in retail aisles.
Same, I'm so sad that we'll probably never hear is opinion on Jakks

fun fact: if you didn't know,TOMY has actually started making sonic merch around in the 90s,the time when sonic was cool and more popular. they mostly made these little sonic figures that did not move.

Man the memories with the jazwares figures i loved them so much i did so many things with them i used to take them to restrants pools and everything my first figures was a comic pack of translusiante sonic and a knuckles and a sonic and blaze and a multipack surpisingly its been 8 years and i still have them
I still await the day for the Sonic figures to have the quality/accuracy/articulation/accessories of Figma or FiguArts since they did Nendoroid Sonic.
Fuzon-S You got your wish with the Classic Sonic figure that came out last year. Had tons of accessories, faces, mouths, and articulation!

I still need to pick these up soon, the delay of the tails and metal sonic packs really bums as they were the ones I was most looking forward too, them having unique comics would be cool though. Great review btw ^^

I agree that I love the tomy sonic more than jazwares sonic because jazwares sonic is very lose and not sturdy but even though tomy sonic doesn't have much articulation, it actually look like sonic
Man, it feels like a missed opportunity that these packs didn't include a classic main cast member + Freedom Fighter character. They went to all the trouble of tooling of new figures (The Modern ones at least), so why not go the extra mile and make a exclusive character? Anyways, fantastic review! Love the detailed shots and commentary. (On a side note, I'd totally buy these if they were $5 cheaper. I wish they had thought out the price-point a bit more...maybe drop the fancy box packaging? Hasbro's Star Wars comic packs were cheap, and they had were on small blister cards.)
On the subject of Archie figures, it really is sad cause for years myself and many others have always dreamed the characters would get merchandise, but now it's absolutely never going to happen, which is a huge shame. I definitely wish these were cheaper yeah, they would do much better at even $13.99 or something.
I remember getting those 2 packs of sonic and knuckles, with a wario figure I found back in 2018. Still have them.
You know what would be cool, Jakks Pacific do this with there own sonic line, and maybe we could get characters from the idw comics turned into figure and bundled with a comic, that would be awesome!

I think the reason they cut down on the articulation for the modern figures is because they knew more kids would want to buy modern figures, since that's the Sonic they've seen the most of from recent games in the main series. Less articulation means less complexity. The more articulation there is, it makes it easier for a figure to fall down, especially on the legs. I know this is the collector's series, but a lot of kids will still want modern characters. Classic Sonic on the other hand, appeals a bit more to older collectors, so it has more articulation.

When do you plan on reviewing the Tomy Classic Sonic and Tails plushes that have come out recently? Classic Sonic was in the video (barely) Do you not have Tails? Or do you think that recording Wave 1 and 2 Together would make a better video instead of wave 1 and 2 separately?

Wooooooow, the Tomy line looks like the Dreamcast era designs. (Why Sonic's eyes are like that.) That's... that's just darn impressive. I was gonna skip these till I saw that.
I just got the Sonic pack today, and the classic was more like the anniversary release.
The extra paint behind his mussel isn't there, the paint doesn't look muddy, and you can't see the seam lines on his head, although it most likely is there. Oh, and it still came with the Archie comic, even almost 2 years after it's release and the cancellation of Archie Sonic.

I have the Sonic pack, it’s great. However, the articulation on the modern Sonic could have an improvement. I don’t have Knuckles, but I’m getting him soon. *Also, for my Classic Sonic, he can’t move his wrists for some reason. His ankles can though. You can also take the portals out, for display I placed my figures on the portals and it looks great.*

Now I know why my one and only Sonic bar made me sick. It was 2005 when I had it, but I clearly remember the wrapper being the first wrapper he showed. The next week there were no more Sonic bars.

Yeeaah, I totally get what you mean with Jazzwares having less quality control. My Sonic figure's neck ended up mostly breaking and one of the joint pieces fell out of his leg (which I later replaced with a toothpick), and as of recently I noticed one of his arms was beginning to crack and fall off.
My first (of 3) Shadow figures ended up completely losing the joint piece connecting his leg to his lower waist so my dad had to literally screw that back in. And, being that I was young at the time, I ended up trying to color his red stripes with a black Sharpie to make him resemble Mephiles. Needless to say it looks awful.

At the time I'm watching this video (December 2019), I can personally confirm a Modern Knuckles Tomy plush and a Classic Sonic Tomy plush. They both look very nice and I plan on heading back to Best Buy specifically for the Knuckles plush. I may get Classic Sonic as well, but the Knuckles plush seems different enough from previous ones for me to really want.

No no, the Sonic and Knuckles figure I show in this video are available now. The Tails and Metal Sonic figures won't be out until December though.
I recently Received Both of the comic book packs on Amazon. I also ordered the Super Mario Galaxy Boo Mario Plush for under 20 bucks. And I'm saving my money for the Sanei sonic plush. I also have a question, is it possible the jazwares mondern knuckles plush is still available, I think I found it on eBay

Hey pacmac I got my sonic 2 pack and it’s very fragile my modern sonics head just snap right off and my classic sonic joints on the legs are super lose so I don’t know what to do
