- The history of Sonic The Hedgehog plushes is long and complicated. Sonic is a character who has gone through many design changes in his time, and as a character with so much evolution, many different types of plushes have come out. However, with so many existing nowadays, it can be easy to forget where it all started. So, today, we'll be taking a look at the earliest known released Sonic plush set, the 1991 SEGASonic The Hedgehog UFO Catcher plush set. This set includes Sonic, Eggman, and even some animal buddies, Along with that, we'll be covering some variant sets including the plushes on karts and Santa Sonic plushes. Are these plushes still worth looking for all these decades later? Let's find out.

Even though I don’t collect Sonic merch specifically, I love your videos on Sonic stuff, because you clearly have so much love for the franchise that you go out of your way to make content based around obscure stuff that people like me would never get to see otherwise. I just discovered this channel a couple days ago and it's instantly become one of my favorites, I've already seen most of the videos on your channel and and dreading the moment when I finally run out! I've always been into collecting plushes casually but I never knew there was a community of serious collectors like with figures, and the way you tell these stories makes them so compelling, interesting and funny. These videos have restarted the burning drive in me to start making custom plushes again! I've done a couple in the past, so I'm still relatively new to it, but I'd given up and lost interest in the craft many months ago. Recently, I've spent my free time planning out patterns and sewing while watching your videos, so thank you for reigniting that flame for me! Looking forward to seeing more.
PS; I'd love to hear some recommendations for similar channels to this, for when I inevitably run out of videos on here.

♡ I was actually very pleasantly surprised to see that they included dear, sweet Flicky in the line, kinda surprised they didn't make a bigger deal over her inclusion though, as she predates Sonic's game releases! (Also, might be one of her only pieces of physical merch, I'm unsure) Her self titled game "Flicky" debuted for an arcade system first, & then SG-1000 (in 1984* I believe!)

"Flicky was first ported to the SG-1000 in Japan, and then later to other Japanese home consoles. In 1991, Flicky was released in North America and Europe on the Sega Genesis. The character has continued to hold cameo appearances in Sega video games, most notably within the Sonic the Hedgehog series."
She was included in Sega Smashpack 2 for PC, which is how I got the chance to play as a kid, if you ever get the chance I suuuper recommend it, it's adorable AND lots of fun! ♡

I got the segasonic sonic plush rerelease from a garage sale. It was a rare find (from here in my country) and even if it was shoeless I still bought it. Planning to make a custom pair of shoes for this plush :)
I also got a modern sonic plush again from a garage sale and it's in good condition. All in all, nice quality content delving in to some sonic stuff ;)

Thanks to this video, I was inspired to go out and hunt down my own stringy Sonic plush! I got him for a little under $100 from a seller in Thailand. My Sonic is in excellent condition, and even still has his original tag! As a lifetime Sonic fan, he is the pinnacle of my collection, and I couldn’t be happier! Thank you PatMac for showing us how interesting plush collecting can be!

Ngl the 1991 stringy boi Sonic is probably one of my favorite Sonic plush designs. He's kind of goofy looking and simplistic sure, but he's extremely cute and charming imo, the style of it honestly kind of reminds me the little toy Eggman capsules from Sonic 2, or the little Richter Belmont 1-up plushies from Castlevania.

Thank you! I'd love to make a video on those! The Popco releases in America from the late 2000s are super nostalgic for me, so I'd love to go in-depth on their history someday.
To be honest, i actually greatly appreciate the Flicky plush in particular, because it also doubles as the only merchandise for the original Flicky arcade game, which i absolutely love. The other two animal buddies are a bit bland (though holding some baskets are radical) but Flicky herself has some interesting history. Apparently people at Sega loved her design so much that she kinda stuck around thoughout games way beyond her own.

The Tails plush was my first ever Sonic plush I’ve ever gotten in my whole life, despite the fact that it’s a bootleg plush, it captures the design for Tails in Sonic X, even though I wanted the official TOMY 25th anniversary plush of Classic Tails from the video games

I love these plushes! They have a real timeless look (same can be said for the original Classic Sonic design) with its super simple design, and the noodly limps made of rope material are really charming.

Question: What do think is the status of the Tomy Sonic line? Do you think GE will start rereleasing their products?
It’s pretty safe to say the TOMY line is done, as Jakks Pacific is not making Sonic figures and plushes for 2019 and onwards. That being said that also means the 3” figures that haven’t been released such as Amy, Shadow, Eggman and Super Sonic will not be released, same for all of the Sonic Boom products that haven’t been released yet. That’s very sad, but I’m excited to see what Jakks will make, they’ve already confirmed Mighty and Ray figures! As for GE, they’ve already started rereleasing some plushes like Metal Sonic, Silver, and Super Sonic. They’ll rerelease all of their older plushes soon enough. They’ve also released a brand new 21” Rouge plush and have promised new characters are in the works as well.

I have always been into collecting,but never liked plushies,seen one of your videos by accident,watched all of them later.
At first i found it strange that someone would be so into plushies but now i kinda of get,i like to Respect every kind o hobby,and i have to say,now you made me want a stringy Sonic.
Interestingly, the karts used on the kart variants are EXACTLY THE SAME as the Takara Mario Kart set. I don’t know how this is possible, unless the karts are just generic pipe frame kart toys that were used for both sets. If anyone knows more about this, let me know.

I've just bagged myself a sitting Santa Segasonic plush from ebay! His eyes are starting to peel, but otherwise he is in excellent condition and still has his tags and hang string 🙂
