Since its the only plush of him, it'd make sense to get one even if you are a collector. If its a bootleg of a actual official plush, than it'd be bad to get one if you're a collector, but if you just want to have it to play with for fun, and are tight on cash, then getting bootlegs really isn't a big deal. Only problem is you don't really support the actual company that owns it, but if they aren't selling the stuff anymore, then I see nothing wrong with getting a bootleg if you're not a collector. I usually get customs or bootlegs of characters that have zero merch and most likely will never ever get merch, despite being a collector. If there's actually a official plush or figure of a obscure character out there, I'd rather pay big money for the official one than settle for a cheap bootleg or custom. Even if it looks better, I'd rather get the official one.
Yo Japan has it great when it comes to claw machine prizes all I get is a cheap random bear that breaks on the way home without me doing anything to it
I'm a simple man. I hear PatMac uploads another rare plush history video. I click. (Also, if Geno is announced for Smash, can you do a video about Geno merchandise? Thanks.)
I keep seeing that King Koopa plush on Ebay and while I knew it was a bootleg, I also knew for a fact that no such plush exists as a licensed product. I had no idea it was a repurposed pattern of the Sanei Bowser!
I'm not sure that it's all sun fading, especially teal bean and silver metal sonic- I think that its probably just due to inconsistent materials. There's a lot of old collectibles that have """variants" that are completely due to "the factory didnt have yellow paint that day so they just used brown because they didnt think anyone would care." the original Kenner Luke Skywalker figures comes to mind because they did this with his hair. Or, heck, maybe someone just grabbed the wrong pile of fabric when they were chopping out the pattern. I suspect that quality control for operations like these are pretty low, and quality control for OFFICIAL merch back then was ALREADY pretty bad haha. i dont think its impossible theres more than one teal bean floating around in the wild. i just think that if it was sun fading, it would be more yellowed and not such a blue-teal, and blue DEFINTIELY would not fade to silver like that, no way. If it had been subjected to such high levels of sun exposure as to radically fade the fabric that much, I would suspect that the red and black parts would ALSO be faded, and so would the visible stitching. I think thats just the fabric colour for sure.
My favorite "bootleg" company is OlyFactory. Their plushies aren't really bootlegs as much as easily obtainable custom plushies because that's what they were originally (they make them in fairly low quantities). They make plushies of pokemon and digimon 100% using their own patterns and what makes them so unique is that they usually make plushies of mons that don't have their "official" equivalent! They're surprisingly high quality as well. I think a video about them would be interesting.
Great video, I’m so happy you made a video on these bootlegs since they are arguably confusing for those who aren’t aware of them. I know most people are against bootlegs (and so am I), but I actually don’t mind this set. For me, I feel like I definitely won’t have any of the plushies from the STF set for a long time, so I don’t mind settling for the Amy, Espio, and Bean bootlegs until I can get my hands on the actual ones.
