Great video personally I’m not the hugest fan of idw sonic but I did like some ideas implemented in the idw series I guess I prefer Archie sonic mostly the late 2000s early 2010s era and to an extent the reboot era Still this is an interesting look a the toy island sonic figures

The only issue is that you keep saying every variant is a "money grab". I know a few people in the business, and tooling moulds for one figure can cost upwards of $25K. It's a bit expense to sculpt new characters, but the most expensive thing is making those steel moulds. What they're called in the business is a "budget softener". They sell the variants to die hard fans or collectors so that they can get the most out of the moulds they've already made, which gets them the OK from the CEO to continue expanding the toy line. So, if you really want more characters for a certain toyline...buy the variants! It really helps.
To sum up toy island, let's look at ebay listings, the worst way to buy figures. Wanna get a jazwares figure? Bang, cheapest one is maybe 25 dollars, unless you want a Knuckles with rickets. Toy Island? every single one is under 20 dollars, maybe 25, but you get the deal. Still a little expensive for such...questionable figures, but you can see how they're regarded as.
IMO, Cream, Eggman, Shadow and Big are definitely their best figures design-wise. Chris looks decent but I mean come on...it's Chris. And everyone else? Meh...
I'm going to come out and be the first to say: STOP HATING ON CHRIS!!!! I seriously don't get why people hate him! As a matter of fact, he's one of my most favorite parts of the show. As a kid, I liked him because I felt like he was a bridge between me and Sonic. A lot of people say he's clingy and annoying, but when you hear his backstory as to why he's like that.
Not a huge fan of the Toy Island Sonic toys except for a couple figures. At least the Jazwares Sonic toys were more charming even if most of em were not that great. Great video nevertheless, I would love to get at least the Toy Island Eggman.
