TOMY Sonic Collector Series Comic Pack Figure REVIEW - Tails & Metal Sonic!

- Last year, TOMY introduced their Sonic The Hedgehog Collector Series line of figures and plushes. Back in Summer of 2017, they released the first wave of Collector Series comic packs, which included figures of Classic and Modern Sonic and Knuckles, as well as Archie Sonic comics. Now it's time for wave 2, with packs of my realest friend Tails as well as Metal Sonic, both in their Classic and Modern styles.
Are these figures as good as the first wave? Since Archie Sonic was cancelled, what comics do these come with? Are they worth buying? How do they stack up compared to previous releases? All these questions and more are finally answered.

And then with jakks pacific we have essentially a real figma tails
Recently I've been seeing a lot of comments saying how much they miss the Jazwares figures, but I remember back when those figures were made a lot of people would complain about how bad the quality control was.
Not sure if it's a case of "things were better back then!!!!!!" or "you don't know what you have until you lose it"
In my personal experience they were pretty hit and miss, I still have my 3 inch Modern Shadow and Classic Sonic figures, but some of them had pretty bad QC issues such as loose joints. The paint was mostly on point though.
I agree, I believe the Jazwares Sonic line was overall very good. A lot of people, myself including, are very nostalgic for the line, but yes a ton of the figures had horrible quality control and the later releases really tarnished the legacy of the line. However, the first few years were some really good stuff. Eventually I'll make a full video on the history of the line, and I'll say all of my thoughts there. I definitely don't agree with people comparing the Jazwares and TOMY stuff outside of general figure comparisons, neither of them is objectively better so I wish people would stop that.

none of these come even CLOSE to the piece of art that is oil tails. that ruins all of what little value they've had.

As a person who just wanted a good and affordable Metal Sonic figure, these make me super happy. Thanks for letting me know these guys exist over a year ago, as finally getting to own them is such a treat.

Not only was his portrayal in Forces an absolute disgrace to his character, but his modern figure looks to be the worst in the Tomy series so far
And as a Tails fan, this just makes me sad

Yea, I managed to stumble upon that pack at a Toy's R Us outlet a few years ago, I already had classic Sonic, Tails, and Amy, but Super Sonic was a bonus for me, and of course, my favorite Sonic character, Metal Sonic. I bought the pack, that Metal Sonic is displayed on my desk, alongside my original purchases of the other classic characters, and I also used a sharpie to add in the jet engine details, however, he's a pain to stand. After seeing that prototype you shared, I feel like that kid who got excited when this figure was announced again, I REALLY would like to have one of those.
Also, that Super Sonic I got in that pack? Leg snapped right off. I wasn't even handling it roughly.
I’ve heard of a few other people who have defective Metal Sonics too, it seems like it was a really common problem with him. And yeah the prototype is so cool to see! It was like a new Jazwares figure came out lol.
I also got a misfit metal sonic. I just used permanent marker to color in the black hole

I'm so glad I decided not to buy that Forces 4 Pack. I had it all the way to the register when I finally noticed his legs and instantly put it back on the shelf. A single figure should never deter you from buying a four pack. And that whole paint thing is something I didn't even notice. Jazwares might not have the best quality control, but at least their figures stay true to the character and actually look like the character is happy and not silently screaming in pain.

They should've based it on Boom Tails, because he is still proportionate with the others while still looking good.
I really do like how you brought up the Metal Sonic prototype as a point on why figures look better when they are given proper paint jobs.

Tails' inventions backfire? Uh...aside from the Tornado 2 prototype, I can't think of any failures. He's an awesome inventor. That description is closer to Eggman. Tomy must be part of the Eggman Empire

looking back they should have just done boom tails without the boom stuff and it would have been perfect
all tomy wouldve had to do to make modern tails good was remove the belt and goggles from the boom figure and change the gloves and shoes... THAT'S IT!
If you look closely Modern Tails IS taller than Classic Tails, but not by much. And yes, Tails' hands are indeed posable, but not very.

My sonic forces sonic figure has a backwards right hand instead of a left hand, and it didnt have gloss like the right one either

I have a pack I got from toys r us that has sonic and knuckles figures, and issue 200 of the archie comic.
It is, sadly, the only piece of merch I have that has Sally on it (she's on the comic cover).
Another great video! Hm the figures are ok i guess.. i think i like the small Metal Sonic figure the best. (Well, i can't speak for the other languages but at least they got the German text on the package correct this time. ^^ It's very well written unlike on earlier Tomy products which is nice)

I think the best way to fix your tails I don’t know if it will work but the good thing is that maybe you could break the legs off get some clay sculpted and then put the legs back on and make sure it moves that can help your tails to be bigger like modern sonic in modern knuckles

I used to have the Jazwares Modern Knuckles. And yes, his legs were EXTREMELY floppy. I’m just waiting for Tomy to release Modern Knuckles alone by himself.

One thing is I loved to see you review world of Nintendo figures and see if you like Tomy or Jakks figure.
I hope Tomy fixes their Tails figure. It just looks so weird. Lol I'm most likely gonna pick these up on my birthday if they have them at Target along with other things to expand my collection
In 2018, I formatted, printed out, and stapled fan translations of Sonic Comic I found online, so I could read and understand them without the computer. I never knew Sonic Comic would have official English translations in print until very recently.

Some years ago, I've got that 20 years jazwares classic sonic pack, that have 6 little display figures. It has a metal sonic, and his paint job is absolutally fantastic.

Where did you manage to pick these up? The only place I could find the comic packs was Toys R Us, but now that it's bit the dust, I'm left without a brick and mortar place to get them.

when patmac said that one of this metal sonics joints got infused with the paint i got that on a roblox 12 pack where when i opened it one of the figures broke immediately and one of the figures have paint infused at the knees and has a poor paint job on the legs (also roblox toys are made by jaswares)
As the local Metal Sonic obsessive fan, I'm so happy to get both of these. Do wish they were more detailed, and, well, better? But hey, I take what I can get.
