I am very allergic to PPD in hair dye. It burns my scalp so I can only do highlights. My hairdresser only uses organic dyes but they don't work for me either. In my case it's a health issue not coloring anymore. That stuff is a carcinogen ! FYI ladies, you can try Hairprint if you want dye-free color mirroring your natural color :)
i stoped becuase im to be honest lazey and dont like the chemicals butthe biggest reason i started to get grey and i so love my grey hair that is taking over my head
I colored my hair most of my life. I lost my husband at age 53 and my daughter talked me into a different style and color- I went blond and let it grow out. I did not know how much grey I had. I quit coloring it in 2017, and found out it was mostly silver! Last year, chemo took my grown out grey and wore wigs for 6 months. I was ready for it to grow again and GUESS WHAT? It is a beautiful grey and silver and CURLY! This has been the perfect hair style and color for the last 2 months, I haven’t had to worry at all. Best decision ever, I hope the curl stays.
I àm an old maid at 75 and you and Cynthia are so precious and blessed. I have been a bleached blonde since 45 and am still working,. For me, I enjoy life just as it is. Cynthia gave me the nerve to share this.
Love this :) society needs to stop associating age with negativity! People are always told they need to be “fixed.” Get rid of wrinkles, get rid of grey hair, get rid of stretch marks. NO. we are human!!! You look amazing and you are so inspiring
Why try to fit in when you are clearly born to stand out? I've been going grey since I was 17 years old. At 45 I decided to let my real colour come through - best decision ever. Judge someone by the goodness in their heart, not their looks. If they can't accept my grey hair, it's their loss. GREY POWER - US SILVER FOXES RULE!
I agree. You look too cute with gray. I found one 6" long gray hair as a high schooler. It was cute. I taped it to my bedroom mirror and showed my friends. We all laughed about it. 😂 I stopped coloring my roots during Covid and the no travel order bc I wasnt going anywhere. My roots got colored every 3 weeks. I'm 49 now and about 2" into the growing out.
As someone who just turned 51 and isn't ready to let go of the colour yet~~I say Yay Renee!!! You look beautiful and you are clearly happy and confident. You be you!! :-)
Thank you so much for telling it like it is about going gray. I wish I had found you at least 10 years sooner! Here I am, just turned 60 last week, and haven't colored since several months ago, and I am finally seeing some silver. Thanks again for your posts, you are inspiring!
I think, you look very beautiful with your natural grey hair. I stoped the colouring of my hair too. I will not go back to color or straighten my hair. I think it’s liberating to have your natural hair color and the natural bouncy curls. Now there are products to help us out with the frizz. I am a new subscriber. God bless you lady
I have the same curl pattern and I'm loving your gray curly hair! I'm turning 40 in a few months and I'm about to continue my life journey being authentic. I stopped dying my hair since March 2020 and I'm embracing this. Where can I buy that tshirt?!
You're my inspiration ♥ I stopped dying my hair last year and you have helped me along on my journey. I don't want to be doing what society expects of us any more...I want to be *me* :) x
I can not believe people could leave you nasty comments about *your* hair, it suits you so much, it makes your skin and eyes look amazing! and your hair texture is just so gorgeous, I am so jealous of your curls, I have large waves and have always wanted more defined curls. I let my hair go greyish a couple of years ago as my family all went pure white at around 40. I am 38 and a half and have only a few greys. Sods law!
Loo Bert people are just rude and have no filter. Some people stop using basic decency when they can type in an insult or know-it-all unsolicited advice when it’s online 😡.
A never have seen a woman who has less reasons to colour her hair! Your look is absolutely gorgeous. Those curls alone are absolutely adorable. No reasons to change anything. And your channel is outstanding. Never boring. Always very witty and honest/openhearted. Thank you from 🇩🇪👋👍.
I love your hair and it's so beautiful. It's because of you I've stopped coloring my hair. Only 2 month's in, but there is already so much more acceptance of me being me. Thank you!
AMEN, SISTER !!! Please enlarge the photo to the left and say howdy to the back of my head on the day I had the last of the bottled brown hair cut off of my real color!! I said "Grey hair and don't care" 12 years ago and never looked back. I've never felt more courageous, more peaceful, and more wise than I do with silver hair. You just KEEP DOIN' YOU and know that you are being a wonderful example for your girls. As for your critics, just pray for them... it must be hard for them to see a self confident woman who likes herself and loves her life. BLESS THEIR HEARTS 🤓👍
Your grey is beautiful! I am 7 months into this journey. I love your channel you give me so much hope. I am turning 55 this year and so done with the chemicals on my hair. I am also a curly girl and run 3 businesses!
Thank you for the positivity around aging. I was always led to believe that once you got to a certain age, you were washed up. Society perpetuates this. I often see the younger generation dismissing the older generations and it really is heartbreaking.I lived my life in fear of getting older. I am just about 50 and I've LOVED getting older. The freedom is amazing. I really want to get more positive messages out regarding this! I have dedicated a great portion of my life to healthful living so that I can be that example to younger girls. This is what 50 looks like baby! I'm not old...yet!!
I recently found your channel through a recommendation for your adoption process with Pollux. I want to say I really enjoy listening to you speak! You look amazing regardless of what colour your hair is and you seem like the nicest person in the world 😊
Your hair is absolutely gorgeous and you are too!!! Outside and inside!!!! And I so love that you adopted your sweet pup and gave him a chance at a happy life!
Tired of having to go to hairdresser every 4-6 weeks. Expensive. I’m 61. I’m almost there. Just need a another haircut. We are not “open” yet here in NY. I have very curls hair as well. ❤️
Hi Susan! I'm almost there too.....think I need 2 more trims. Our salons in KY open on the 25th (I think that's the correct date) and I have an appointment on June 1. Yay!!! My hair is HUGE right now due to the curls. Ugh
Renee, 8 weeks for me now!!!... this is when I caved last time... but, it feels different this time... I am definitely doing it!... this was a fantastic video that I needed to hear on week 8!!!!... I actually am getting excited to see more grey!!!!... you are one of my favorites, Renee!. I am blessed to have found you!... you have taught this 63 yo lady a lot, since the day I found your channel!... you are one of the most sparkling ✨ gems on RUclips!!!!... love you to bits!.., thank you for being YOU!!!!... stay healthy and safe!... much love and appreciation!..💜💜💜💜
You are absolutely gorgeous! The grey brings out the glow of your skin. At my husbands request, I stopped coloring my hair when I was in my mid 40's. He had been grey for years, and asked me to stop coloring my hair. I did and have no regrets.
Hello from Ohio. I am a new subscriber and I just love all of your videos. Thank you so much for your honesty and transparency, and just being who you are. I love your gray hair as well as your curls. You look beautiful. I’m almost 60 years old and stopped coloring my hair 15 months ago. I’m still in the transition stage so hopefully soon all of my color will be gone. You have articulated everything that I have felt for a very long time. You have inspired me to go naturally curly as well. I have always straightened my hair, have fought with my curls and I’m trying to learn how to work with my curls thanks to your videos. You are such a blessing; keep on being the wonderful, transparent person that you are. 😉
Hi Ruth! Curls are tough. They have a mind of their own and change all the time. It's trial and error until you figure out the products that agree with your hair type. If you have curls like mine, hopefully something in my videos will be helpful. Good luck!
Hello! I cannot believe I just found your RUclips channel yesterday. I felt an instant connection with your curly hair journey and we are the same age. Since, the very first video, I have followed every other curly hair video. I vow today to stop with the dye processes. I started my doctoral program, and I will go through two processes: getting my doctorate degree and embrace my grey hair during my journey. Ahhhh, I'm doing it!
I love your gray hair and curls. I'm 58 and 15 months into my natural hair transition. My hair is S&P with very little salt. I thought I would have more gray but I've come to terms with what God gave me. Keep on inspiring others and being your authentic self.
Your hair color looks so nice with your complexion and eyes and so much more interesting with the variations than flat, matte dye every could. After two years dye free I just wish I'd done this sooner as I love my gray hair.
I have to say you are my inspiration!! I am about to be 52 and have dyed my hair off and on for at least 35 years! For the last 10 years I've dyed it to cover the gray. I am sick of the time and effort the upkeep takes. I've thought often about going natural, but the transition options had me puzzled. After much research and definitely after viewing your videos I've decided to go cold turkey!! I think you and your gray locks are beautiful!! I love that you embrace the natural you!! As an educator, environmentalist, and nature lover I can't believe this decision has not come sooner for me. I appreciate you sharing your journey and inspiring me to accept who I am... naturally!!💞
Renee, you are right about your hair. It suits you perfectly. I was afraid to stop years ago because I thought it meant you were letting yourself go. Wish I had stopped at your age too. I stopped coloring at 60. Almost 64 now. We are as old as we feel. You rock the silver hair!!! One more thing I love your glasses too.
I love your curls and colour and most importantly- your sense of what’s important. Your kindness to your awesome family and sweet pups. I’m 60- been waiting to be grey for ages. Would love to have your beautiful curls. Have a wonderful week. 🌻
Just came across your video. I’ll be 48 and I’m just soooo tired of sitting in that chair at the salon. The commitment, money etc. thank you for this great video. I also have curly hair. You are beautiful!!!
Renee, Thank you for your fabulous, gorgeous self and your frank and open videos. I am 70. I have never coloured my hair - which is not curly - and now I am nearly completely grey. I certainly don't care. I began watching your channel because of your adoption of Pollux - the dog nobody wanted. I love your attitude to, and energy for, life. Best wishes from Australia.
Okay, Renee, this is it. My daughter's graduation is tomorrow, so no more excuses and no more dye. I'm nervous, and I'll probably have to re-watch all your videos. Thanks for another well-timed pep talk.
I never looked at it that way... I have been dyeing my hair for years, while my husband has gone grey gracefully. It never occurred to me that we don’t match. I am not quite ready to ditch the dye though. Maybe in about 3 months. I will turn 50 in October and my first grand baby will arrive around my birthday. I use at home coloring so I do not have to commit to so many hours at a salon. But prepping my bathroom with newspaper and just the mere scheduling of special events is enough to gear me towards ditching the dye soon. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
My hair colour and skin complexion was the number one reason I stopped colouring my hair too. I am 48 in August and felt that I had every right to stop dying my hair and to look my age. My Mum always said that I am too young to have grey hair. I am pretty sure my grey hair thought otherwise and now since I have gone grey again after trying it two years ago, she loves it!. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, it is all in your perspective. Thank you so much Renee for your videos, I just love all of them. xox
I just loved the reason you gave about being in control of the aging process and letting yourself be grey independently of being old. I’ve never heard anybody express that before. I think that’s so true. What a fabulous reason!
WELCOME TO MY CURLS I’m 57 with curly dyed red hair. I am 7 weeks in. Yesterday I made a big announcement on my Facebook page that I’m doing this on purpose. I’m accepting myself and I’m not neglecting myself. I’m going to look funny for a year and a half and I just want everybody to know that it’s on purpose.
I’m eleven months into my grey transition and I have loved every moment of it. I was so sick of the dyeing routine - the chemicals, the smell, the drying effect on my hair, the way the dye made my skin tone look ‘wrong.’ I am fifty next month and I am so proud that I let my hair do its own thing without succumbing to the dye again! The day I decided I’d had enough was one of the most liberating days of my life. I love my new hair and I don’t regret a single second! Your hair is looking beautiful Reneé, it really suits you and I love your videos! Much love from the UK xx
I love your hair and colour - I am 63 today - and used to use a natural henna as I did not want the chemicals either - so I quit too about 3 years ago - I have naturally dark brown hair and the silver is coming in - still just a small amount - I embrace the joy of aging - as long as I am healthy - we are blessed to be here - I find it sad that people cannot embrace change in their lives
I went color free at 55, almost 5 years ago. I went every 3 weeks prior to that for color. I don't regret it. My complexion looks so much better with my natural silver hair. I love the the makeup and clothes that I can wear with the silver hair. I would rather spend the time and money on something I enjoy. Grey hair, don't care! Love it. - Funny thing is I get so many compliments now on my hair. Even from young people. Take care- Sue in MI
You are beautiful inside and out! I 'm almost 38 and I already have a few grey hair but as I have dreads they kinda blend in. The thing is that I love freedom and embracing our natural selves is such a freeing process. I hope I'll welcome the transition when the time comes. Thank you for the inspiration :-)
Bravo, Renee!! You are my inspiration. I'm almost 70.... Since the "stay at home" the salons are closed and I haven't colored my hair... What a relief, for many of the reasons you mentioned. I also did it every 3 weeks. Now will likely let it go gray and be myself too.... Many of my friends (my age and younger) are going gray and NONE regret it. Just had my 50th high school reunion on line. Many of the women were gray and looked fabulous! Thank you for this video.... :-)
I got that T-shirt you’re wearing last week. Love it, and I couldn’t believe how soft it felt before I even watched it the first time. I love and agree with all the reasons that you stated for going gray. You look great especially with that tanned skin! Blessings to you and your beautiful family.
Thank you for sharing that one of the reasons is because your color just didn't look right anymore with your complexion. I've been feeling so frustrated the past few years with every color I've tried. My stylist would even say it was as close to my natural color as we could get, but nothing looked right. It was like an aha moment when you said that...I'm 3 months since my last color, and I'm still making my decision, but this helped a lot.
I have your exact curls... I'm 56 and have been dying my hair FOREVER. Was going to wait and stop coloring when I hit 60, but the current quarantine situation has pushed me into thinking about it earlier... Salons are opening soon here in Ohio, and I have an appointment later this month. Let's see what happens... I'm ALMOST ready, but NOT ready to be seen/treated like an OLD lady!!!!!
I really appreciate your sparkling personality and videos of encouragement to go grey. I have been growing mine out for awhile now, and it is quite white. I ordered your "All that . . . and silver hair too!" t-shirt and I love it!
Just found your channel i am 52 i have naturally curly hair and have decided to do curly girl and no longer color my hair! I love your hair. You rock the curly locks!
I think your gray hair is stunning and gorgeous! My husband WANTS me to go gray, but I’m just not there yet. I’ll be 51 this month. I just think other women look good gray, but I don’t know if I would look good.
I love your hair!! I have found this channel recently and love to watch these. It started when you got your rescue pup. I have let my hair go grey this year I am 62. Reality check!! It is what it is. I love my time of life and love my hair. It is salt and pepper like my mom's who is 84. I am going to perm my hair this year for the first time because I want curls like you have . I do have wavy but I really want the curls. So I am doing that....other than that, I embrace my age, hair, (weight....hmmmmm….lol) and love life. Glad to meet you!! Keep the videos coming. They are wonderful :)
Thank you for sharing your philosophy on grey hair. I can relate, as I am 54, and I started getting ever more grey about 2 years ago,... I couldn't find the right colour and it was costing me the earth to do it and keep it up, and when I did it felt like I was wearing a costume/faking something. One day I just said - NO MORE! I have curly hair too - not as tight as yours, and I was doing a lot of curly hair appropriate changes and I just said no to colour which wasn't good for my curls anyway. I keep my hair shoulder length and I am LOVING it. It's a 65/35 brown to grey mix but the grey that's coming in is quite silvery and I am calling it my highlight. My inspiration was a former boss who had long - like mid back -very curly, absolutely gorgeous silvery grey hair; it was a statement alright. At the time (late 80s) EVERYONE was colouring their hair and she was like you - in her mid-late 40s and I think it gave her a genuine style icon flair and suited her personality. As for me, I am still monkeying with the cut. Good curly stylists are thin on the ground - but so far so good otherwise.
I’m 41 and I decided for a lot of the same reasons but mostly because of studies that found that the dyes are related to cancers in our body and I was done. But I’ve gotten so much “your to young to go gray” I’m okay with it being gray I’m okay being me and I rather be natural then put myself in harms way for the benefit of pleasing what other people think of me. I’m so glad I stumbled across your channel! Thank you for sharing your story! I even stopped using deodorants with aluminum for the same cancer reasons.
I love your natural look. I'm glad you're honoring your gray. I'm 8 yrs older than you and I have never colored my hair. I have been waiting to embrace my gray and yet, I only have one or 2 strands here and there. Go figure My favorite cousin who is 5 months younger than me has a lot of gray and it looks beautiful. I love it. Continue to honor you. And thank you for showing us Maxie and Pollux periodically because I love it! They're so adorable.
You look great with your natural gray through your curls. I also have curly hair and stopped coloring when I was 25. My hair is so much healthier now. I have maybe like 10 strands of gray growing in and you can't really see them yet but I plan to keep it natural. You are an inspiration and I thank you for sharing and motivating others to be ok with being ourselves.
Im 43. I have a few silver hairs and I was ECSTATIC to see them. My Mam-ma had white hair since I knew her. It was long and beautiful like a unicorn. She only would take it down in the evenings. She would brush it and I just watched her quietly. It was the most gorgeous hair I’ve EVER seen. I’ve never been afraid of aging or having white/silver hair. We earned it! Bless you and all you do
Power to you for wanting to age gracefully. I stopped colouring at the same age as you. Well I'm 60 and I have black hair with very little white and a ghost white complexion. It is what it is but I'll end up getting it to go naturally like my mom. At least I am me. You are so right.
You have beautiful skin and your hair is gorgeous. I just turned 70 in April and am told I don't look my age. Usually people guess 45 to 55. I didn't get grey hair until I was 60. I don't color it and the reasons are threefold, I can't be bothered, it's expensive and I wanted to age naturally and gracefully. I never care what most other people think. I have short straight hair which I spike. I'm guessing the hairdo helps me appear younger. Gray hair doesn't hold the color well. It fades. Dyed hair doesn't look natural. I hate to see dyed hair on older folks. I died my hair a lot during my teens. I was blond, very dark brown, auburn, whatever. I quit doing it in my senior year of high school. My father had white hair in his 40s, but I don't take after him in that department only. My mother stayed dark into her 50s. My hair is streaked looking.
I stopped dyeing my hair 3 yrs ago bc like you, Renee, I hated the whole process. Plus after 30+ years of dyeing, my grey was coming in quicker. Twice a month I dyed my hair. I decided I was tired of it and just didn't care what anyone thought. I had a lot of the same thought process as you. When we first start dyeing our hair we aren't thinking "long term" and how it's a process that we won't win. Now, I rock my grey; love looking at it and feeling how soft it is. I keep hoping it will all turn white like the white streak I've had for 50 yrs. Your grey looks awesome! Great video!
Wow, I so totally relate! I have curly hair just like you. I had a difficult time accepting my curly hair for years. I'd have it straightened, treated with relaxers, and cut extremely short for most of my life. I'd blow dry my hair every time after I washed my hair. I'd use my flat iron as well. But I was getting to a point where all of these were too time consuming. I absolutely hated when all my efforts went out the window when my hair started to get curly once I stepped outside. The one that cut my hair extremely short - to my specifications - for many years is no longer my hairstylist. I decided, "OK, I am going to go all curly!" I'd let my hair dry by itself and let the curls take over. Like you with your hair coloring, I feel so free from the commitment that I had to make to keep my hair as straight as possible. I so appreciate your honesty and your being true to yourself! You're such a great example! I've been enjoying watching your videos, including the ones on Pollack. I am now your new subscriber. Please keep up the great work!
Yes Laurice!!!! I straightened my hair for years....and I'd spend all that time in the bathroom getting it perfectly straight only to have it frizz up the moment I stepped outside in the humidity. Geez....such a waste of my time. I stopped straightening and embraced my curls when my daughter was born...and she is now 21. Never looked back! Welcome to my channel! So glad you are here :)
Just found your vlog ... what a lovely discovery. After many years of debating whether to go gray or not ... 5 years ago ... I just did it. Shared this vlog with my Facebook friends who may be facing the same issue.
Thank you so much for making this video. I agree with so much of what you said. I saved it as one to come back to when I’m feeling depressed about the fact that going grey in my early 30s. You have such a positive outlook and I love the fact that you don’t care what other people think. Like you said, it’s really all about what makes you feel good about yourself.
most of my older relatives have very stark white hair and i'm excited for that, i'm only 25 but still. you look so lovely! your hair really frames your face beautifully and compliments your skin tone.
Your hair is beautiful, well done you. 10 years ago my husband read an article about the dangers of dying your hair and persuaded me not to do it any more. I just did not know what colour it was underneath. I am now silvery white and I love it. At 68 I think it suits my face like you said. It has been a real LIBERATION to me not having to fuss over colouring it. 🤗
Can I add to your list? I stopped dyeing my hair roughtly 7 years ago for some of the same reasons you mentioned in the video. Here are some positive things I didn't expect in my own experience: 1.)My hair had increasingly become dry and brittle from chemical dye exposure throughout the 22 years of regularly doing it and I felt like I had to load on products to fix it. Not true anymore. I use a little Dr Bonner soap to shampoo with and a tiny bit of oil these days. That's all. 2.) The hair grew back then, but verrrrrrry slowly and damaged with length. I always wanted long hair and never could get to the proper length I was after (mid-back) in a healthy condition and look. Now, the hair seems to be in it's happy place. It is not dry or weighed down by products AND it grows fast! Now, it is long, straight and shiny. So much more healthy looking than it's ever been! Who knew! 3.) My experience with women I don't know is different. I actually get compliments on my hair! My family likes it in a long braid. One woman told me she thought I was brave....Um, I don't think that, but that's ok, I guess. You are right about the complexion naturally changing. I never thought I'd be happy with my hair. Now, I enjoy brushing and putting it up or leaving it down and feel it is my best feature. Thanks for the video. You look wonderful and other people will have to eventually get used to it. We are who we are and strive for that through life, like it or not!
I'm going grey little by little. I'm early 40s. I've never dyed my hair and I don't love the idea of chemicals on my head quite honestly. I think like you said that there's something about authenticity too. I like to keep things natural.
Hello, thanks for all your advices, i used to have curly haïr that changed a little to straight as i dye and fut them short. After trying and ré dyeing each three months, i stopped dyeing in décembre 2019. I was not as courageous as you so lasr week sent to m'y hairdresser. She really listened to me and as i wanted not to dye, she cut them short. I have black ends nos but it looks like a tye and dye. I'm happy because i didn't put any color and i like m'y haircut. I'll have to get black ends regularly cut to bé completely grey. I'm a french women and i really feel less lonely since i see many women posting videos like you. Thanks very much 😊
I understand completely. Years ago, I just realized that the woman in the mirror with the “honey brown” hair wasn’t really me (my hair is naturally dark brown). I felt like a phony. Then I realized I was admiring women on the street with pretty silver hair. That could be me again! I’ve been getting gray since I was 19 and didn’t color it until a few years ago. No more. The only person who does not like my gray hair is my cousin. She’s a beautician. I guess she saw business dollars lost 😊 PS - You have shockingly pretty hair!
Ladies: Why are we so ashamed of grey hair? Grey can be so gorgeous! Embrace it! I've never colored my hair and I've been bullied a bit even by strangers. There are those that love it, but those shaming comments are the ones that always stuck with me. Thank you so much for your openness about your journey! It's inspiring!
I feel the same whenever I color my hair, it never seems to look right, too light, too dark, unnatural... But I still struggle with my grey hairs, I'm getting 45, and I just can't seem to like myself with my 2tone color! I have to get over it, you are actually making me think about just letting go. Just found your channel, thanks to Pollux, and I enjoyed every video so far, thanks!!
You can do it! It just needs to grow out to the point where you have more grey than colored hair....then it's easier to roll with it. It will happen. Don't give up!
I love that you are so transparent about your grey hair & think your an amazing woman. I have curly hair also and think it's a lot of fun. I'm soon to be 58 and getting tired of coloring it too but not quite ready to give up coloring it. Keep your videos coming! 👍
Ditched coloring my hair 3 years ago at age 41! Got tired of having to color every 3 weeks! It was too expensive, and with curly hair, the coarse texture probably became more damaged. I love my platinum and steely grey mixture. I have teenagers stop me while I’m shopping asking me who my colorist is! Nothing feels better than saying oh honey Miss Clairol can’t get this color. This is all Mother Nature. You look fantastic!!
First off, you TRULY look fabulous with grey hair. If SOME people say you don't, I would have to assume that those few are jealous and/or scared to go through the process themselves and therefore want to bring down a self-confident, attractive woman who has done it AND looks great. Dont kid yourself,, ts sheer jealously. Also, I know EXACTLY what you mean about something being 'off' about your looks. I felt that way for the past 3 years and, when I heard you explain this in another video, I felt tremendous relief. My complexion had changed to match my hidden grey hair!! Simple as that! Grey hair is healthy, natural, and lovely!!
Thanks for the pep talk Gretchen!! There are people on YT who’s sole purpose is to be mean and hateful. Fortunately I can block them when they comment...I enjoy hitting that BLOCK button LOL
Just found your channel because of Pollux. I'm a dog lover so that's how I found you. I love your hair natural. I have only a bit of gray and I'm going to go gray gracefully. Both my grandma's dyed their hair until they couldn't any more. Love your darker black hair 4 months ago in the get to know me video but it's beautiful here.
I am 8 weeks in (since our lockdown in NYC) and I've only been dying my part and crown. When I wear my hair parted in the usual way, you can't really see the gray but when I pull it up, woohoo it is gray and silver. My hairstylist called yesterday and said she thinks that next month the salon will be open. I didn't tell her that I was growing out my gray because I was weakening. I know I need a haircut but I pray I have the strength to keep going. Thanks for all your videos; they really help.
@@WelcomeToMyCurls I figured out the costs. Remember this is Manhattan; including tips, with coloring my hair would cost $2,200 a year; without coloring, $550! I would only cut my hair every three months.
I want your t-shirt! My 28 year old told me years ago to "embrace the grey"....I've done that. I simply don't care. I've always had long brown hair & now at 61 still have long brown hair with natural grey hi-lights!
I quit coloring my hair when I was 50 10 years ago and I have the same color and texture! You are a winter color palate and I an see why the color didn’t work😊
I just ad or you and your personality. I am 73 and still color my hair. I have such thin hair all my life and for me coloring gives me thickness and manageability. I love your hair and wish I had full hair like you. Anyway thank you so much for your videos they uplift my spirit so much when at times I need to be brought back to my womanhood and pamper myself a bit. Also I love watching and learning about things I just have forgotten. God Bless You. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤
I absolutely love your hair and your complexion. BTW.... I went and got me 5 hanging baskets of dipladenia’s yesterday. They are beautiful. Found your channel when you adopted Pollux and so glad I did. Loving the grey!!
I’m so glad you decided to stop coloring your hair and I’m so glad I found you through Pollux!! And I’m so glad to have you on my side- will definitely reach out if/when it gets tough
I am new here this week. I’ve watched a handful of videos (house tour, ice cream shop, adopting Pollux, etc.) and you seem like one of the nicest people on earth! If people say rude things because of your hair it is 100% their fear and their issues. It can’t be about you. I live in Boston but if I could choose you as a neighbor I sure would! I am 49 and naturally blonde with minimally wavy hair, so my grey isn’t as noticeable. But my son has a music teacher with curls like yours and for years I’ve been so curious about her hair and finding you has answered so many of my questions! 😂 I am so glad I found this channel for multiple reasons (I’m even learning about dogs - we have cats). Even my 12 year old son thinks you’re nice! 🥰 Thank you Renee!
Greetings from New Zealand Renee! I've watched a few of your videos while in lock-down to help me decide if I was ready to go grey. I'm 47 and have been dyeing my hair since I was 20 and over the last couple of years started to think more and more about "ditching the dye". I have 10 weeks worth of regrowth and, to my surprise, am not dismayed at all by the different shades of silver and white coming through...I'm actually quite intrigued to see what the end result will be! Our country moved out of lock-down today and my hairdresser made a home visit for a haircut only...wahoo, yep I've decided to go grey. I've had my hair restyled into a short messy bob so it was great to say goodbye to about 5 inches of brown hair in one go and now I'll enter the growing out phase which I know will be long and not always looking my best. Anyway, I wanted to say a huge THANK YOU for passing on your advice and personal experience. I absolutely love your hair and cannot understand people who make negative comments...I bet they're envious of your confidence and positivity...don't let their words bring you down. Shine on lovely lady! Best wishes, Martine
I totally get the idea of going gray before it’s obvious by age that you are gray. I had my first gray hairs in fourth grade and started dying when I went to college on the advice of my grandmother. 😊 After 30 years, I was just DONE. I’m having a hair dresser bleach it out slowly over time to avoid a skunk line (my hair is pure white and I dyed it black). SO much to love about it and the whole process. I’m 5 months in!
Love all you reasons. I was also very curious to see what was under my color. I’m liking it. I’m in month 4 and it is hard some days. But the rat race of coloring my hair stops me from changing my decision. I really loved your reason of being in control of when you went gray. Lol okay, I’m old, guess I have to go gray. 🤣 love ya!
We all have reasons....tell me yours!
Got tired of coloring every 2 weeks. I'm 54 and I'm ready as well.
I just think your hair is beautiful. It suits you.
i stoped becuase im to be honest lazey and dont like the chemicals butthe biggest reason i started to get grey and i so love my grey hair that is taking over my head
Thank you :)
I’m a guy and I really like it when women are okay with the way they are naturally, and have confidence and dignity.
Cynthia Willis thank you for sharing your story! Im so glad you are doing well now :)
Wow Cynthia!! I love silver curls....you go girl!
You my love are a beautiful audacious survivor with your silver and grey locks. Wear them well and with a good amount of sass!!!! LOL 😉
Thank you so much!!! I’ll admit...I’m not really appreciating the wrinkles appearing on my brow 🤨
It's your hair, your choice. You look beautiful.
Oh thank you!
Me too. I am 64 and stopped 3 years ago. We're grey and beautiful!! ♥️
Yes ma'am!!! Grey and beautiful!
Preach it girl!!
Oh wow, what a great saying!!!!!!!😁
Grey hair is beautiful
Yours is such a necessary voice in our culture. Thank you for the insight and wisdom. I have gray hair and I don’t care!! I LOVE it! 👩🦳🥰
You are so welcome!
Love your attitude! I stopped colouring my hair and i just don't give a rip what people think any MORE! 😆
Oh my goodness, I personally think you are beautiful with your gray hair. It so becoming and makes your complexion glow.
💗💗💗
I think, you look very beautiful with your natural grey hair.
I stoped the colouring of my hair too. I will not go back to color or straighten my hair. I think it’s liberating to have your natural hair color and the natural bouncy curls. Now there are products to help us out with the frizz. I am a new subscriber. God bless you lady
You have a young looking face, the grey looks good. Be yourself, I'm 73 and white hair loving it
Your hair-with those beautiful curls looks beautiful
Thanks Donna!
Yay!!!! Let’s be ourselves....love that you get it. Wish everyone did. Thanks for the support ❤️
Ditched the dye in January of 2019. No regrets! Finally all silver and I Love it!
Yay Michelle! 😊
Sods law!
Pure white....yep, that's my family too!
Thank you so much 💗
I love your hair and it's so beautiful. It's because of you I've stopped coloring my hair. Only 2 month's in, but there is already so much more acceptance of me being me. Thank you!
I'm so glad! You'll be able to wear it back this summer and show off that new grey :)
Oh wow!!! We are twins!! 🤗
You look amazing regardless of what colour your hair is and you seem like the nicest person in the world 😊
Thanks Lisa! Welcome!
Ugh
WELCOME TO MY CURLS you are so lucky to have those curls! I love them.
You are rocking you!! I embraced my silver in my early forties...not one regret!!
That is awesome! I wish I had done it around the age of 42ish....but so glad I'm here now!
The process, the $, roots, dryness ughh... started to transition during Corona virus got to hide out and do it..😂
Same! Kinda nice to not be seen while it’s growing out! 👍🏻👍🏻
Linda❤️🥰😘❤️ awwww.....you are too kind. I know you are going to do it this time too. You’ve come too far to turn back now!! 😊
WELCOME TO MY CURLS thank you so much for your encouragement!!!!!!💜💜💜💜
You are absolutely gorgeous! The grey brings out the glow of your skin. At my husbands request, I stopped coloring my hair when I was in my mid 40's. He had been grey for years, and asked me to stop coloring my hair. I did and have no regrets.
Yay! ❤️
Love it!!
Just watched this video and say "good for you, Renee!". You look great. I started my transition to gray/silver 2 years ago and feel so free!
Your hair color looks so nice with your complexion and eyes and so much more interesting with the variations than flat, matte dye every could. After two years dye free I just wish I'd done this sooner as I love my gray hair.
Love it hear it! 💗
Yay Dawn!!!!💗💕💗
Renee, you are right about your hair. It suits you perfectly. I was afraid to stop years ago because I thought it meant you were letting yourself go. Wish I had stopped at your age too. I stopped coloring at 60. Almost 64 now. We are as old as we feel. You rock the silver hair!!! One more thing I love your glasses too.
I agree June! Wish I had stopped coloring about 5 years ago. I’m really enjoying my purple frames. They are fun!
Thanks for sharing your journey, I turned 55 last month and I can finally do this, and its ok and I’m going grey.
💕
I love your curls and colour and most importantly- your sense of what’s important. Your kindness to your awesome family and sweet pups. I’m 60- been waiting to be grey for ages. Would love to have your beautiful curls. Have a wonderful week. 🌻
Thank you Kerry 💗💕💗
Just came across your video. I’ll be 48 and I’m just soooo tired of sitting in that chair at the salon. The commitment, money etc. thank you for this great video. I also have curly hair. You are beautiful!!!
Hi! That was me.....just so tired of the whole thing. Went grey!
Hi in Australia!!!! Thank you for the kind words. So glad to have you!
Okay, Renee, this is it. My daughter's graduation is tomorrow, so no more excuses and no more dye. I'm nervous, and I'll probably have to re-watch all your videos. Thanks for another well-timed pep talk.
Ok Debbie!! Deep breath....you can do this! I’m here if you need me 💗
your grey hair is so beautiful!
You are beautiful and full of life. I am letting my gray hair grow out too. I feel beautiful and natural. Girl power!
Girl power!
Thank you so much Renee for your videos, I just love all of them. xox
Hi Arwen!! Thanks for sharing your story. My mother also doesn’t like my grey hair. Tells me every time I see her 🤨
WELCOME TO MY CURLS It must be that generations mindset I think. Never mind, as long as we like our hair, that’s all that matters. 💕
I just loved the reason you gave about being in control of the aging process and letting yourself be grey independently of being old. I’ve never heard anybody express that before. I think that’s so true. What a fabulous reason!
Thanks so much Kerry! That was a hard one to explain and put into words. Glad you go it :)
The greys look gorgeous! I love grey hair. It just looks so regal and chic!
Thank you!!
❤️🥰❤️
That’s fantastic!! Thanks for sharing the positive 🤗
Love it!!!!!!
I got that T-shirt you’re wearing last week. Love it, and I couldn’t believe how soft it felt before I even watched it the first time. I love and agree with all the reasons that you stated for going gray. You look great especially with that tanned skin! Blessings to you and your beautiful family.
Oops, I meant “washed it”
Yay Carolyn!💗💕💗
Yay!!!! 💕💗💕
Your complexion and hair looks lovely 💋
I love your hair!! I have found this channel recently and love to watch these. It started when you got your rescue pup. I have let my hair go grey this year I am 62. Reality check!! It is what it is. I love my time of life and love my hair. It is salt and pepper like my mom's who is 84. I am going to perm my hair this year for the first time because I want curls like you have . I do have wavy but I really want the curls. So I am doing that....other than that, I embrace my age, hair, (weight....hmmmmm….lol) and love life. Glad to meet you!! Keep the videos coming. They are wonderful :)
Welcome Carla!!!! 💗💕
I can't believe people don't like your grey hair. You look so pretty with it. It looks so natural with your skin tone and makeup. 😍
Thank you Julie 💗
Your hair is GORGEOUS, I can't wait to go grey and also not care. You do you mama, you are beyond beautiful!!
Thank you Karina 💗
Go figure
My favorite cousin who is 5 months younger than me has a lot of gray and it looks beautiful. I love it. Continue to honor you. And thank you for showing us Maxie and Pollux periodically because I love it! They're so adorable.
❤️❤️❤️
Bless you and all you do
As I was reading your comment....I could imagine you watching your mother brush her hair at night. Such a sweet image :)
Wow Cynthia.....you go girl!
I love your grey hair. You rock it! I can't wait until we can see you completely grey. It's so beautiful.
It shouldn’t be much longer!! This last bit is just going sooooo slow
❤️❤️❤️
You are simply gorgeous. I am 66. I have decided to embrace the gray.
Thanks so much Carol!!
Your hair looks great, it's your own personal style made for you. Acceptance of ourselves is the key.
Thanks Sara!
Love this addition! Thanks for sharing!
So true...non dyed hair is so healthy and beautiful.
Will do! 🤗
Hi! Welcome!
You can do it Victoria!!! You’re in the toughest stage right now. Once you hit 6 months it will get so much easier 💜
Hi Roxann! The tees are available on my website: welcometomycurls.com/. 💗
Aww Marie! That is so sweet! Coloring also made my hair thick so I completely relate. My natural hair is fine....but I have a ton of it!
I absolutely love your hair and your complexion. BTW.... I went and got me 5 hanging baskets of dipladenia’s yesterday. They are beautiful. Found your channel when you adopted Pollux and so glad I did. Loving the grey!!
Oh yay!! What color did you get? I always get red but think yellow would be lovely...just can’t find them here.
I’m so glad you decided to stop coloring your hair and I’m so glad I found you through Pollux!! And I’m so glad to have you on my side- will definitely reach out if/when it gets tough
Hi! It’s gonna get tough...then it gets better. Much better 😊
Your grey hair looks wonderful on you!
Oh thank you!
Awww that’s so kind💗💗 Welcome!
Yay Martine!!!! That’s exciting news...you go girl!😀
🤣 love ya!
