Will has awaken to the sirens of impending Transitionary Soldiers. Jarred, a resistance fighter, has rescued him and has intentions of recruiting Will, until he finds out Wills secret.
*School Project*
Shot on a budget of under $200 and given only 9 weeks to complete from pre-production to final piece. Crew included myself and an audio tech.
Shot on a Canon 60D.
Lenses used: 50mm 1.4, 18-135mm 3.5
Edited in Adobe Premiere CS5
Effects and color done in Adobe After Effects CS5

Guys, this is /inspired/ by half life 2, not an exact copy of it. It is not meant to have perfectly replicated uniforms or be entirely canon, it is just a school project loosely based off of a game. Hope this helps to clear up some of the confusion and hate surrounding this video.

mad lore You couldn’t edit a video once it goes up, and he probably didn’t go out of his way to change one of the opening sequence segments and make them match all the other ones since last August.
This was done intentionally, Since I had to change a bit of the back story and names of things due to class restrictions the soldiers were called transitionary soldiers because they still wore the hosts uniforms to ease the alien transition. It was the beginning stages of take over.

It was what the soldiers were doing to Will when Jarrod intervened. The process transitions the subject to the new breed (the soldiers)
story was confusing a bit but that wasn't some shitty you tube video, so good job that was pretty sick.
Thanks for watching, I actually did the eyes all in post, using optical flares and tracking the eye holes of the masks. Would some breakdowns help if I uploaded them?
Half-Life 2 is one of my favorite games of all-time. I have seen many of these fan films and although this one didn't adhere strictly to HL2 characters/props/etc, I thought it was very good. The acting was good and CGI effects weren't over-used. There was enough in the film to give the audience an idea of what was going on without giving away all the mystery. Very good job guys!
For this piece we made some sounds from house hold objects using Pro Logic 8. Other than that we used sound effects from various sources and put them in via editing software, in this case, Premiere CS5.
Wouldn't matter, he had started the process of transitioning which gave him the heightened senses and reflexes.
As soon as I get the time and funds together sadly. I really do want to continue this somehow, may not be episode 2, but will take place in this same universe.
this was soo good, the story, the visual effects and editing were great, how did you get the lights on the masks eyes to turn red? a mixture of practical and visual effects?

When they first approach them, one soldier says to keep Will alive, as he did not transition properly and they would need to study him. Hope that clears things up.
@aresye Thank you so much! I myself am still dabbling in 3DSmax, but actually everything was composited in After Effects, the only thing 3D was the helicopter model which I had a friend animate it for me.

Normally when I watch amateur films, I find myself focusing on the direction and effects more than the story. With this my brain bypassed all that pish because it was all done so well it felt natural to concentrate on the story telling, which was fantastic. Good job. Keep it up

@TOTBFilms I ordered the masks online for $15, but the shipping, since they were from Russia or some country that way, cost me $20. Really kickass masks though. I started off with the eye color being blue, but for some reason I changed it to yellow.

In a sense that I was already thinking of doing something like this and seeing someone else do it and succeed this well...it just kinda reassures me.
The fact that one soldier just *casually* walked up to a man holding a gun directly towards him is funny.
Somehow this made me very frustrated. The soldiers' reaction time was as if they're constipated or mentally challenged. The kid could've died like 5 times throughout the video had anyone just shot him from a distance. And there's something about characters that are "confused and dazed" and let others die around them that really ticks me off... I dunno.
can you guys chill he only had 9 weeks and was given a budget under 200 dollars, Jesus Christ.

The soldiers would transition humans slowly into their race. In the case of Will it heightened his senses.
In regards to making more, If I did, I would start it over, possibly with a new story line. Due mostly to the fact I've lost most of my actors in a move to a new job.

This is for all of you people say stuff about this and Hl2. It was INSPIRED by Half Life 2. Which means that they got ideas from it. This video has no strings to HL2! It got ideas from it but it’s before Hl2 or after. Or is it half Cannon. No, its a bloody video they made for school and they got ideas from Hl2.
Can we appreciate the fact that this was made with under $200.

@LeviathanOps Thanks, in my head, this could take place right after the invasion and they are trying to use our uniforms as a transition, in a way to make it seem like they are still under human rule.

Everything's wrong about this. Not only should there be no inhabitable rural areas after both the Xen infestation and the nuclear bombs dropped in 7 hour war, but the certainly aren't any personal vehicles that the combine allow workers to drive.
For a budget of $200, you did a magnificent job! Are you thinking of doing any more short films on this topic and/or continue this story-line?

Fantastic job! I think this is honestly the best Half-Life inspired fan-film out there, because it actually has a storyline, fantastic directing, and (gasp) actors who can actually act.
I've been learning Maya in order to add CGI elements to a future fan film. Did you do all effects in Adobe After Effects, or were there any 3d animations?

I think I was just inspired by a film that was inspired by a film. Well done! I found out how fun it is to write a storyline that includes menacing masked soldiers because there is so much human emotion to be had and even that varies. This was extremely motivational, though.
Hunters are the three legged Bi-peddal sem-organic creatures from the combine homeworld there used to scout and destroy urban camps.
Could of probably been very good in the city.
Another idea of the hunter is also that there transisted humans that somewhat change towards the combines way of thinking and they are able to be turned towards there allies.
More information about this is from my mind and the combine libraries of information.

This does make sense in the case that this was the 7 hour war however the combine's armour is not accurate and 'Will' doesn't make sense either. This video shouldn't have been named 'Red letter day'

Pardon my language..but this was pretty f%$%ing good! Did you get permission to film at the carrie furnace, or did you go renegade? I am not a gamer, and never played, but this kept my attention from the first second. Excellent!

Lotsa people hating on this, but I think it's a pretty dope spin on the half life universe. Only thing that was really stinky was the part where Will somehow took out all of those guards almost effortlessly. Nonetheless, keep it up

Keep in mind that the combine in the US might be different than combine in Russia (where HL2 is set) for example the combine liked the idea of attack choppers, so the re-engineered a human one to fit there needs, they could have liked some US technology and reworked it for the purpose of combat in a different area
