      one question for you though, why so many Christians in the USA put this big focus on "Jewish" stuff but never ask the actual Jewish people about our own stuff...
      I can assure you one thing, a Jewish year never lines up with a gregorian year, Jewish years are either 353-5 or 383-5 days long... we have shorter years but add a month every few years, and the months are set by moon cycles... also the Shabbat is Saturday, Saturday in Hebrew is called Shabbat, it just Jewish calendar was made before the idea of a 24 hours day, so the day switch at sunset, not at six in the evening nor midnight, since hours don't really exist in Jewish calendars. all of this is just scratching the surface.

    It blows me away that these people are like, "I have exhaustively studied The Bible, and Jesus will return in this month [insert month and math here]."They studied and made an these connection but overlook the bit where Jesus straight up says, "No one but I know when I'll return, and I'm not going to tell, so pay attention cause I'll take you by surprise." It is about as clear as anything in the Bible gets, and there are a bunch of other illustrations of how Christians are not going to know. All that stuff about the tarrying bridegroom is telling believers to be ready and follow Christ at all times, because no one will know when the return will happen, so all you can do is wait and follow.

    • @Syndie77-gk4xk
      @Syndie77-gk4xk 4 месяца назад +45

      Hello, former Adventist here. Yes, Adventists today generally interpret that passage of Matthew 24 to mean what you said. No one will know when Jesus is coming down to the hour, and anyone who claims to know is likely a heretic. Adventists just believe the end times are vaguely soon and that there are some things that will happen that will make the fact that the end times are coming clear to believers, albeit not down to the hour.
      Adventists believe that before the Second Coming, the United States will become a theocracy and dominate the world which...just might happen after all.
      KB will probably get into investigative judgment and the remnant church and all that. I just started the video.

    • @nomar5spaulding

      @Syndie77-gk4xk Yeah I was raised in an evangelical household. My dad has basically been kicked out of the church for not being a devoted follower of the One True God (Donald J. Trump) and for actually advising Christians to pay attention to a Jesus. The idea of "vaguely soon" like you said pretty well holds with modern evangelicals too, but I wasn't making that comment in reference to what groups think now. I was referencing how several groups over time keep trying to do a thing that Jesus told them like 50 times not to do because it can't be done, and if they had studied the Bible as deeply as they claim, they'd obviously understand the futility of their predictions.

Constantine actually continued to allow and sanction pagan worship throughout his entire reign, and one of his successors, Julian (sometimes known as Julian the Apostate) even tried to promote paganism after christianity had become mainstream, but it wasn't until Theodosius that the empire was officially christian.

      But that has led to a couple of cases in physics or chemistry where one claim from one paper is cited-directly enough times that it "becomes known", even though it's not actually been replicated. Those are kind of rare though.
      But of course they're also by definition unknown-unknowns until they are uncovered, so... there's potentially more out there. (But that's just a small subset of the much larger "crisis of replicability" that is currently ongoing in all scientific research, which is a whole other topic.)

      As former fundie-flavoured SDA, I unfortunately must tell you you only got a peak at the junior division - some of the explanations I was given to explain contradictions sometimes existed to explain contradictions created by the explanation for *another* contradiction. Seventh Day Adventists tend to be more into reading the lesser cared about parts of the Bible (exhibit A: the Levitical law against same-sex marriage.) *But* they'll have *some* explanation for why the ban on mixed fabric clothing, sowing two types of seed in one field, or not "rounding off the hair on your temples, or mar the edges of your beard" in the *next chapter* actually doesn't apply anymore. It honestly can get pretty wild. And mentally exhausting. It gets so close to acknowledging many of the contradictory parts of the Bible, just to force you to play the mental gymnastics to be able to believe that the Bible is an divinely inerrant text for another day.

I asked one of my older brothers (a church elder) once why the church was so determined to have "Daniel & Revelation" seminars (meetings to recruit new members). Why did the church have to focus on the monsters and weird, scary stuff instead of Jesus and his teachings? He said it was because it was what people wanted to hear. And I think that's why the church membership got more and more focused on conspiracies over the years - because those were the people they were actively recruiting.

    As you mention later, the parallel between woman and church comes from the analogy of the church being the “bride of Christ.” It’s in Paul’s letters. There are also several wedding parables, and references to God’s chosen people in the Old Testament in the feminine.

    You commented about not knowing why women are considered churches in prophecy. I’m not entirely sure if this is why but in Ephesians Paul refers to the church as the bride of Christ. It is probably an extension of this metaphor.

      Another factor may be the song of songs. Since it can be very weird to justify why there's an entire book where god doesnt really get mentioned and it's just about 2 people singing about how hot they're for another it often gets interpreted as being a metaphor for christ and the church.

    9:54 As someone who studies Religious Education and is also a huge Bible nerd, the church-woman-association basically comes from Ephesians 5 : 21-33, in which men are told to "love [their] wives as Christ loves the church" and so on. This caused the image of Christ as "the husband" and the church as "his bride" to get really popular, it never really went down in conservative Christian circles. (I heard that practically every Sunday during my childhood.)

      Hey I do too. Did you know that St. Peter would often lie about being in Babylon when he was in Rome to avoid persecution?

    • @Marc.1776.
      @Marc.1776. 3 месяца назад +1

      Additionally, we also know that in ancient times Babylon was a shorthand meaning tyranny in general due to the Babylonian captivity. So St. Peter calling Rome Babylon was a clever way to associate the tyranny of the captivity with the persecution of early Christian’s!

      I never knew the Romans for using the number zero a lot.
      The first century before Christ began on January 1, 100 BC and ended on December 31, 1 BC.
      This was followed by the first century of our Lord (AD is _Anno Domini_ which means basically what I just said in Latin) between January 1 of the first year and December 31 of the one hundredth.
      Some guy came up with the whole BC/AD system in the sixth century and we’ve stuck with it since
