  • It's one of the fastest-growing Christian denominations in the world-the Seventh-day Adventist Church. But even as Adventists grow in influence and public awareness, especially recently, not much is known and many myths and legends about them abound. Pastor Doug Batchelor "clears the air" in this special video presentation.

Pastor Doug, I enjoy your sermons immensely. I like you, would love to sit down face to face and have a discussion on your views concerning the Sunday law and how they would come about in these last days. Just as you would love to talk to any minister on our beliefs as Seventh Day Adventist, I would love to discuss the last day events. Who knows maybe the Lord will open a path for the conversation. But it is of great concern to me. As an Adventist myself we hold all things in common in Jesus Christ our Lord. Wonderful New Heart Series you and staff have put out. Thank you so much. I have been very blessed in appreciation for God's guidance in your efforts and wish continued success in the Lord.

@Doug Batchelor Doug Batchelor, you state that the SDA never predicted a date for the second coming. Didn't Ellen White follow the movement that predicted. Didn't she, herself, state that in this scenario:
E.G. White prophesied the world would end in 1843, 1844, 1845 and 1851 : "Now time is almost finished, (1851) and what we have been 6 years in learning they will have to learn in months." (Early Writings, p.57). AND "Soon we heard the voice of God like many waters which gave us the day and hour of Jesus coming. When God spoke the time, He poured upon us the Holy Spirit." (Vol.1, p.59) NOTE: In this reference Mrs. White claims that the Lord gave her the day and hour of His coming. In Matthew 24:36, Jesus said, " But of that day and hour knoweth no man , no, not the angels in heaven, but my Father only ."
I am a true believer in going to church on Saturday because of Jesus example and because of the 10 commandments. I also am a true believer that Christ will come back as he promised. But I emphatically don't believe that Ellen White was a true prophetess of God. NO TRUE PROPHET OF GOD PREDICTS INCORRECTLY. THE SCRIPTURE TELLS US " If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him" (Deuteronomy 18:20-22,

@@RictorHeidi Dear friend, clearly you have taken Ellen Whites words out of context. It is true that Ellen White proclaimed the "world will end", but she never gave a date nor a time. Even today Adventist believe the world is going to end and end soon, that Jesus is even at the door. This has always been the belief of Adventist and Ellen White also. There is no "time" predicted on when that day will be. Secondly, while Ellen White was in vision and taken down to the end of time just before the second coming of Christ, she spoke of God's people who would witness Jesus's second coming after they had gone through the great time of trouble, after the time of Jacobs trouble, and the enemies of God were about to thrust forward and kill God's children. Then she describes that very moment and time, and references what was happening in both nature and the visible portents of Christ's coming. She mentions the darkness, the light breaking through every now and then, she mentions God's people looking up and then the earthquake and thunders that rolled through the atmosphere of heaven; in all this commotion she then says that they, the children of God, understood what those rolling peels of loudest thunder meant to them, that it was God's voice announcing the "day and the hour" of His coming. She also goes on to describe the wicked who sought to kill God's children as not being able to hear any of the words that God was speaking to His people. I think that maybe you should re-read early writings and compare them with other writings by Ellen White when she speaks of that same event. And carefully understand that she did not say she understood the "day or the hour" in her time, or that she knew the day or hour as God spoke it then, but those in the last day understood that God spoke the day and hour through the great peels of thunder to His people just before Christ's coming. To this day, Ellen White has never referred to any "day or hour" of God's announcement in any of her writings, none. Not once has she ever said what was heard by the voice of God at that moment. But only that those who heard it, understood the words of God's pronouncement of the day and hour. She was in vision, remembering seeing the things that would take place at a future time. She was not there literally, nor has she ever mentioned, or stated that "she" understood in her time the words that God spoke proclaiming the day or the hour. Only those alive in that future time and under those last hour moments in earth's history understood what God had told them. "The voice of God is heard from heaven, declaring the 'day and the hour' of Jesus coming, and delivering the everlasting covenant to His people. Like peals of loudest thunder His words roll through the earth. The Israel of God stand 'listening', with their eyes fixed upward. Their countenances are lighted up with His glory, and shine as did the face of Moses when he came down from Sinai. The wicked cannot look upon them. And when the blessing is pronounced on those who have honored God by keeping His Sabbath holy, there is a mighty shout of victory." GC. page 640. Moreover, she explains often 'why' the hour and day must be kept secret, because if people knew, they would neglect to prepare, and this is obviously God's intent. What good is knowing the day and trying to prepare in the last minute? It would save no one. The work would never have gotten done, characters would never have been formed for heaven, the work in daily trials and overcoming would be put off till the end if ever done at all if the day was many years in the future. There is so much to do now, both in good works, spreading the gospel, caring for the poor, indigent, the widow, the fatherless, and all charity. All these things that form character worthy of heaven, would all be put off and neglected. Man knows not the hour of His coming. We could die tomorrow or next week, then what of character? If put off waiting for 'that day' if all knew when it would be. All these things Ellen White admonished because she did not know the day or the hour, but was impressed and informed of the lack of character we all have that needs to be transformed by the indwelling spirit of Christ before its too late. Get ready! Get ready! Get ready! was her cry to us all.

@@jamesbarfield6870 ADVENTISTS Derek Prince on the definition of a parable: QUOTING
It’s good to be with you again at the beginning of a new week, sharing with you Keys to Successful Living, which God has placed in my hand through many years of personal experience and Christian ministry.
The title for my talks this week is “The Sheepfold.” It will help you to answer a very difficult, but also very important question: Who really are God’s people in this world? This picture of God’s people is found in a parable of Jesus in John 10.
But before we turn to the actual words of Jesus, it will be helpful to say a word about the nature and purpose of a parable. One of the great problems that we all have in apprehending spiritual truth is that we are tied to our senses. We tend to believe only those things which we see and feel and hear and touch and taste. *We think that these are the real things and it’s difficult for us to comprehend or to see the reality of things in another order. And yet we’re not really correct in saying that the things that we apprehend with our senses are the real things: they’re not. The things which are truly real and truly important are spiritual. And they are not apprehended by our senses.*
Let me just put before you some words of Paul on this subject. In 2 Corinthians 4:18:
*“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen in eternal.”* (NIV) So what Paul is saying *is just the opposite of what we tend to think by nature.* He’s saying what *we can see is only temporary. It doesn’t last, it’s not permanent. It’s not fully real. But the fully real things are unseen. And he says we fix our eyes on what is not seen.* Again, a little further on in the same letter of Paul, 2 Corinthians 5:7, he says: “We live [or we walk] by faith, not by sight” (NIV). How can we fix our eyes on what is unseen. There is a deliberate paradox there, isn’t it? You can’t see the unseen. But the paradox is deliberate. *Paul is saying, “We’ve got to learn to think differently. The truly real things are the spiritual things that we don’t see.”*
Now, one way that the Bible helps us in this matter is through parables. *The parable is a story or a picture of something familiar, material, that everybody at the time of Jesus knew about, but its real truth is not in the natural or the material, it’s in the spiritual.* And everything in the natural corresponds to something else in the spiritual. *And so, the parable becomes a kind of MIRROR reflecting the spiritual and the unfamiliar.* In this way we proceed from the known to the unknown, *which is one of the basic principles of good teaching. And Jesus, of course, was the perfect teacher.* *NOW READ LUKE 16:19-31* LUKE 16:19-31 KJV - There was a certain rich man, which was - Bible Gateway*NOW READ LUKE 16:19-31*

Due to my upbringing as Adventist, I revere Jesus Christ & His example of love. Also, I take healthful living seriously. Joining the Baha’i Faith’s community has only intensified my affection for the Adventist teachers who instilled in me a sense of sacred. I was raised a 3rd generation SDA who taught there is only one God, the Father, and Jesus Christ his only begotten son. In 2012 the Church “took a firm stand” and adopted the trinity into their tenets. Paul tells us in 2 Tim 4:3-4 The time will come when they shall NOT ENDURE sound doctrine but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers having itching ears. And they shall turn their ears away from truth, and shall be turned unto fables (myths).

If you want to know how much a Seventh-Day Adventist is a Bible Christian, compare videos. For instance, go to one of Doug batchelors 12 minute videos and notice how many scriptures he uses in that time frame. I was watching One recently, "Can a non-Christian be saved". The video is a little over 12 minutes and contains about 20 scriptures to back up the claim. Now, go to most any other denomination and watch one of their hour long videos. They may use, what five scriptures during the whole sermon. The typical SDA sermon talks about scripture and uses scripture for its base. This is so with the foundational Seventh-day Adventist churches mostly. Foundational refers to those who still believe as the Pioneers did of our faith back in the 1800s. Maranatha!

Let me tell you a true story. There was a young man who was on a college football team as the quarterback now this team was always ranked in the top 10 in most national rankings the coach put him down as a second string quarterback and he became angry and he left the school. When he left he took the playbook of all the plays that the team used offensively and defensively. He went to a new school and became the starting quarterback. As it turned out this boys team faced his old team in a bowl game. His coach had the playbook. Now this boy was an excellent quarterback he had the other teams play book the coach knew it and yet in that ball game they lost 48 to 0. So even with the playbook he was not successful. The other team just had more talent more determination and a very good coach. Now it is also the truth you are in possession of God’s playbook the Bible and even if you have it you don’t know how to use it. You have to be inspired by the Holy Spirit and he ain’t doing it.

Hey! Great question. Speaking fron personal experience -the best thing to do in this case is to honor God and His word. Take this issue up in prayer and ask God to open a door for you at your job that allows you to be faithful to God with The Sabbath.
Be active with this. Look for what other options you have. Some jobs are very accommodating and don't require much, but in the case that is impossible with man, that's ok, it's possible with The LORD.

In relying on the Bible alone you can be misled. The reason is there was a significant church before the Bible was even assembled approximately the beginning of the fifth century. How did the entire Roman empire become Christian before the Bible was constructed. It happened through the church which Saint Ignatius of Antioch referred to as the Catholic Church he died in 107AD. During the time before the Bible the church relied on councils to determine right from wrong and Christian and catholic doctrines the first few councils are in the book of acts. There we discover that Gentiles did not have to follow Jewish law. No circumcision no dietary restrictions none of those old 613 laws . Also during this time especially in the very first century while St. John the apostle was still alive Christians used to meet in the synagogues and riots
occurred because they were both celebrating their weekly service in the same building. So councils were formed and they ruled through
the Holy Spirit instead of using Saturday as a day of worship to use Sunday as the day of worship honoring the resurrection of Jesus. And so from the first century on all Christians have celebrated the Lords day on Sunday. Do you see why using the Bible only you are narrow minded as to 😢 church history and councils councils came before the Bible the church came from the Councils and even the Bible says the pillar of truth is the church. Now I always watch your programs on television I enjoyed them until recently a matter of fact yesterday when you said some terrible things about the Catholic Church. In the book of Job God threw out Satan for being an accuser and that’s what you are starting to be an accuser of the Catholic Church which was started by Jesus when he gave Peter the keys to the kingdom the ability to bind and To loose. Why do you think every time Simon Peter is mentioned in the Bible they refer to him as Simon Peter Simon the rock A rock is
Neuter it is not masculine or feminine. Learn your grammar objects are
neuter human beings and animals are male or female. It is only second time that God change the name of a human being for 18:43 specific purpose. Don’t be Lucifer don’t accuse because if you do you will be admonished. One last very important point you use the Bible as your sole source of doctrine. So do other Protestant churches use the Bible as their sole source of doctrine therefore there are 50,000 Protestant denominations using the same Bible to determine their own doctrines. How can that be there is only one Holy Spirit That guides Christianity there is not 50,000 holy spirits just one. So what appears to be is a completion of Jesus who said a house divided against itself will soon fall. It is also evident. That you don’t even follow the Bible but make your own doctrins. It sounds and is clear that your church was started by Lucifer and he’s doing a good job too. Remember Lucifer knows the Bible Word for Word. That is why you need a church and an authority to interpret scripture. You ain’t it.

With regard to everlasting torment, I see Scripture to say exactly this with regard to the devil, the beast, and the false prophet in Revelation 20:10.
We see similar words in Rev. 14:9-12 from the 3rd Angel for any man who worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or on his hand...
In the Geneva Bible of the Reformers, in the chapter titles given in Psalms 49, which are not Scripture, the Reformers say "everlasting torments" for judged worldly misers.
Am I missing something? Why do the Adventists say not eternal torment for the damned specifically mentioned here?

@johnriggs3143 I don't understand your comment. One says no torment, yet Scripture says torment. I'll stick with Scripture. I thought Adventist's did also. So, why are they saying something that is opposite what Scripture plainly says, or am I missing something here? Also, what does rational have to do with God's words. It is man that is irrational, and thinks they have reason, which is opposite God's will.
Throughout Scripture, God tells us the wicked will be punished severely if they don't change their ways. It's a promise. Those who reject God are sent a strong delusion. I think God's words are very clear and substantial on this point. Why teach, assume, or reason otherwise?
This may help you. Review Luke 16:19-31; the story from Jesus of the rich man and the beggar, Lazarus, and Abraham.

In a world of truth, where Ellen's words are pure

Investigative judgment, it's a time to face the truth
Christ is still working, to fix all your mistakes
The Great Disappointment, it's a time to reflect
On the path we've chosen, and the choices we neglect
It's a time to repent, and turn to Christ our King
And in His grace, our future we can bring
Never say you're saved, don't make that mistake
Christ died for your past sins, but your future's up for stake
Investigative judgment, it's a time to face the truth
Christ is still working, to fix all your mistakes
So don't be discouraged, and don't lose hope
With Christ by your side, you can learn to cope
And never say you're saved, until the end of time
With Christ working to fix your mistakes, you'll always shine.

Dear Pastor Doug Bachelor: I agree with most all of your teachings and beliefs; however, I cannot find TRUTH in that which is taught about SATURDAY! Jesus kept a Lunisolar Calendar, given by His Father at Sinai; the FOURTH COMMANDMENT OF THE TEN! You and I know about the changes from LuniSolar to Solar deity Julian, and then 1000 years later generally, the Gregorian Calendar, which has no part of the LuniSolar Calendar which began with the NEW MOON DAY, a different day of the week of that calendar, all on its own, as numbers of burnt offerings obviates. If this were not the case, I would not still be keeping the Lunisolar calendar, and the Sabbaths found in so keeping! I cannot find locally anyone within your denomination who will speak to me on this topic, for we both know, Sabbath days under the LuniSolar calendar CHANGE, but not only were the Hebrews - lastly the Jews - living this way, but most importantly, Jesus Christ walked in this same calendar, although because He was the Son, our Saviour, His sinless life differed from the leaders of the Jewish Sanhedrin in many ways on their Sabbaths. We know who changed this 4th commandment's calendar: Constantine, and his son, Constantius! Why then does the Church you speak for, walk after the orders of these two Emperors, when NOTHING about the days "Saturn's Day and Sun'sDay" mean anything to true Bible believers. We are taught to walk in the footsteps of Christ, and He did not walk in a Solar deity Calendar, and yet, all true believers are to walk in Christ's manner, Who sinned not. PEOPLE need to know why Adventists follow the Roman Way as to the true calendar, when all else concerning her teachings, are surely incorrect, but after the spiritual enemy's commands? I keep the LuniSolar calendar, because a student of the Scriptures, and want to live eternally that I might live with Father, Son and all of the angels, and all of the saints who have been saved from eternal death. Thak you for your answer, and bless you and your people!

All are now following man made doctrines and ceased following the doctrine of Jesus Christ the Son of God, the LORD and creater of heaven and earth.

I live in an Adventist community, great people, but SDA started with a false prophecy, continued with a false prophet, and proclaims a false gospel. If you get away from their false prophets addition to scripture, and just read the Bible, you will see the True Gospel of Jesus. God bless you on your journey.

Doug Batchelor, you state that the SDA never predicted a date for the second coming.
-AND- "Soon we heard the voice of God like many waters which gave us the day and hour of Jesus coming.

I think you didn't get the joke. This is to debunked the myths about Adventism. One of which is that we hate Catholics.
He did say he didn't know if this actually happened or not, but it was not meant to be taken literally.
I've heard this joke being told so many times, for so long.
And it's funny, not because it's true, but because of people who are looking from the outside to criticize rather than to know and understand, they hear an SDA talking about the papacy and end time prophecy and they quickly go "oh they hate catholics!"
I've never heard anyone say the reformers hated catholic believers, everyone understood they loved the church, wanted to reform it and were against what the papacy was doing. They literally preach the papacy is the antichrist and no one ever says they hated Catholics.

@@joelrios4051 What a bunch of nonsense. No one would ever dung you all say about Catholics that you all do. You call them every foul name ever imagined from an evil heart and murderous heart. I watched a video of Doug Batchelor helping this poor girl be saved from the "pagan sun worship" of the Catholics. When I pointed it out, they quickly took it off RUclips. You all openly profess "Sunday worship is the mark of the Beast" Which is to imply we worship SATAN. The whole idea behind this Adventist Sabbath keeping stuff is pure marketing and a shameful scam. The Adventist know they don't keep the Sabbath according to the commandment. Moreover, Jesus and 10 commandments are *no more* than a tool to get you to join the SDA. They will do anything to get you to join the SDA .
You all make every false promise in order to get members, including the following:
      * The promise of a Seal of God * IF they keep the Sabbath.
      * A promise of escaping the tribulation, no where promised to the Adventist's in scripture.
      * A promise that they can automatically claim to keep the 10 commandments, when they know it isn't true.
      * A promise of winning a free ticket to be one of the 144, 000.
      * A promise that God will never leave the Adventist Church, nowhere found in the bible.
      * A promise of Eternal life for being Sabbath keepers.
      * A promise of a rapture of the Adventist church, nowhere found in scripture.
The Adventist use every trick in the book to get you to join! Everlasting shame on these people!
To gain acceptance, and a following, the Adventist's will say anything! They will tell you, that "Oh we believe lot's of people who don't keep the Sabbath will be saved" , when the teach is the same sin a murder and worshiping Satan.
The Adventist will tell you they believe in salvation through Christ alone, what they don't say in that is that they mean as long as you are a Sabbath keeping Jew, as Christ was.
The Adventist will say, "Oh we love the Catholics" , while they call them Satan Worshipers.
The Adventist will say, they do good on the Sabbath day, when what they really mean, is they break the Sabbath commandment and do and speak all manner of evil against Christianity in order to exalt themselves.
Like the 10 commandments, For all this bluster and bovarism by the Adventists and others about Sabbath keeping, THEY DON’T keep the Sabbath either. They just SAY they do!

I am an ex Seventh Day Adventist and I quit because the SDA puts Ellen White's writings above God's word Let's summarizing the essential facts of Ellen's injury from a medical standpoint, one finds the following:
At age nine, Ellen received a projectile-type blunt injury to the nasal area of the face and fell to the ground.
    She was immediately unconscious.
There was severe and prolonged bleeding, and she was carried to a nearby store.
After a brief interval of consciousness, she becomes unconscious again; this lasted for some three weeks.
When she regained consciousness, she had no recollection of what had taken place.
She noticed that her face was markedly deformed at that time.
After regaining consciousness, she was confined to bed for "many weeks" and was reduced "almost to a skeleton."
Any neurologist will tell you that this would cause seizures and the seizures caused hallucinations or "visions" as you would call them. She wasn't a prophet. She was just a human being with a severe head injury.
