As far as eyewitness accounts go... you have the facts as they happened, you have the initial recount (which is subject to accuracy), and then you have the subsequent recount, introducing interpretation. What people tend to do is recount the facts in the moment, then ruminate and process, which is where embellishment comes from. What has to happen: people need to have common ground, need to find interobserver agreement prior to any recounting of a story, and all the facts need to be accounted for/agreed upon during that observational period, with as much accuracy as humanly possible. What tends to happen: One guy sees something in the moment, has no opportunity to get IOA, and then tells the next person he encounters. That person adds their interpretation to his recount, and the story is instantly worthless. Even if it really happened. Now u need evidence.
Wes HuFF and Puff is a liar. He said in debate that the word "christ" means "messiah". So he could win an argument. Cristo is a Greek word that means "annointed one"
@@gabreel8112 I wouldn't call people 'liars.' People are fallible, means they can make mistakes. If we let them make mistakes, they can learn from them. However, the Bible is a subject that isn't knowable truthfully. All we have are people's feelings about it. People with varying degrees of education, mostly illiterate. People who act on belief, having very strong beliefs, regardless of fact.
Meh.. he's so wrong on many things. The biggest one.... "Tradition predates scripture " That's just a fact all denominations agree on and he glosses over.
@@FilsdeDieu7 Would be nice for Paul Wallis(Arch Deacon and Senior Church Man and Ancient History Narratives Researcher) and Wes Huff(Biblical Scholar and Historian) to discuss and clarify ancient history narratives and it's intersection with Christianity.
I don't usually listen to a 3hrs podcast, but this gentleman is so easy to understand. Even though Wes is brilliant, he is a humble servant of Christ, I loved this discussion.
God has a plan for all things. Billy was given success so that he can eventually give it to Wes. There is still a chance for Billy but he has to repent. ✝💯
@@UberBri are you saying the comment was a great synopsis or the 3hour podcast? But are "utterances" different from his "comments"? Don't those both mean the exact same thing in this context? Lol
It takes humility and confidence to sit quietly while others say things that are incorrect, whether they mean to or not. This Wes guy was extremely well spoken with a graciousness you rarely see these days. Thanks for this podcast!
It’s such a rare but invaluable skill set these days. Being respectful and kind to idiots, instead of snarky, condescending, or using their idiocy as an opportunity to showcase your superiority. Bryan Cox also has this ability as a science communicator with physics.
Wes is an incredible lawyer for Christianity. His knowledge is incredible but it’s not just his knowledge. His temperament, and the ease you can understand him is also makes him excellent.
It's so impressive how patient Huff can be. To listen to someone go on and on knowing that they're making mistakes but giving them the opportunity to say their piece so that he can understand where they're coming from and what they believe. It says a lot about his character and the fact that he wants to help add educate more than he wants to simply be right
This was THE BEST podcast ive listened to debunking a lot of myths/misunderstandings. As someone who went looking for what historical christianity is, Wes was accurate in every point he made. Thank God for his providence and raising up people like Wes in the Church.
He's great at pointing out legitimate portions of Christianity while completely ignoring the stolen ideas surrounding them. The whole old testament is rip offs from pre existing stories by their neighbors. Just cause someone finally added an original idea to the bs is like tacking WW2 onto the lord of the rings trilogy and then saying Hitler was real, so Frodo and Sam must be real too. Stupid right? Christians are so fuckin willing to ignore everything they hear until it's the one true thing they can be sure of.
first people to ever say yahweh were the Shasu tribe of northern Canaan. he was their storm/volcano god. we have their carvings and also documentation from the egyptians and a couple other peoples around at the time. PLEASE TELL ME HOW the people that LITERALLY INVENTED HIM are wrong but you christians 1000's of years later are right? please explain that to me. also remember this was almost 2000yrs before Abraham was invented. So...........................
These podcasts have so many guests on that just confuse the hell out of people and they are almost always wrong. Wes actually knows what he's talking about and I never thought I'd see someone on here that would know. Thankful though.
God has blessed Wes with discernment, which is evident in how he teaches. God is working through Wes and is using him to reach a multitude of people who lack discernment. Thank you Jesus!! Following Jesus is the best decision you will ever make in your life! ❤ No one will ever love you more than God. Come to God, read his word. Just start one chapter at a time. Start with the gospels. Just start. God has preserved his word, and it will be written in your heart forever. Praise God, hallelujah! ❤
SO glad Wesley is getting the exposure he deserves - I've been following him for a couple of years and he is so knowledgable, yet so down-to-earth and relatable.
Listening to this podcast has been a great privilege. It's like taking the equivakent of several semesters of scriptural studies in three hours. Thank you for having Wes Huff on your show!
I had guillian-barre syndrome. Which is similar to TM. I was paralyzed and was in the hospital for 4 months and on life support. It started with my legs and went and attacked my lungs. I was completely paralyzed for sometime. And i spent about a year and a half in a wheelchair. It was absolutely scary and traumatic. I just turned 17 and was in my senior year. It still affects me to this day. I was very athletic and now its hard to lift weights without getting muscle weakness. Wes is a guy i look up to. I didn't believe in anything especially after that happened and getting put on a cocktail of strong opiates.. which then i got addicted to, and my life took a dark turn. I'm saved now and I'm blessed with a great family who never gave up on me and kept telling me of Jesus and salvation. Now i hope to be even a fraction as smart as wes is about Christianity.
@Greg_M308 No I don't believe so. I had viral meningitis 6 months prior and instead of resting and taking a couple months off. I kept working out and training in kickboxing. I think it was too much on my immune system. But I don't get vaccines anymore just in case. Most doctors don't recommend me doing so. In all honesty I haven't had a vaccine in 12 years. The covid thing pissed me off because I couldn't go anywhere without a damn vaccine card. Even with multiple doctors saying not to get it. I will do anything to try to avoid going through something like that again. Plus I had covid twice and was totally fine.
A thoroughly excellent and satisfying podcast that uncannily resolved all of the deep Scriptural concerns that have quite literally kept me awake for countless nights. My first acquaintance with these two masterful communicators who achieve beyond any other interview I have seen. Dorey's brilliant sniper like questions dealt with cooly by Huff like a top theological surgeon - both fully aware of the mountainous importance of the content they are attempting to capture... A hard act to follow indeed. Thank you so much Gentlemen.
We are all on a journey of discovering our lost history. A history that has been hidden from us. I personally find Elena Danaan and Dr. Michael Salla the best sources out there for truth.
@ you do realize your yahweh god is nothing more than the annunaki yahweh? Who brags about telling his jews to cut open the bellies of pregnant women and dash the unborn into rocks. He's a blood hungry demon like all the other false gods😂
Julian, I really appreciate the way you ask questions and listen, giving Wes time to explain his thoughts and then you ask for more further clarification. That kind of dialogue is so rare these days.
@@eduardojuarez1449 he wasn't trying to humiliate Billy he was just trying to get to the facts and Billy is known for making Grand statements and never providing any kind of proof. Not just Christians are tired of it but most people that know history are tired of it.
it was an hones debate. He tried to understand where Billy had his infos from and thought of a goo debate, instead it turned out that Billy did not even know the bible even though he permanantly claimed that he had bible studies since he was 6 sometimes he said 7. He had no sources at all and made everything up. He even said in some podcasts taht Jesus is Satan and referenced scriptures and Bibles that do not exist and do not have any text that he said. I wonder how nobody double checks this none sense.
@@mae8859 Yes! Billy even came to Wes’ house at 2:30 AM to “serve” him with papers. There is ring doorbell footage of it on Bless God Studio YT channel. Who does that at 2 in the morning?! Lost the debate and his mind.
Listening the second time right now. This is an incredibly important podcast and exactly the best reason to love the internet. I wish I could afford another sub as I would LOVE to hear the continuance of this amazing conversation. Great job Julian
@IanB3rry Christ didn't quote from them, apostles did a tiny bit, but where did you get the idea they quoted them as Scriptures? They quoted Pagans, are you gonna accept those as Scriptures as well? Enoch is quoted explicitly - is that sufficient for you to add it to the canon as well?
The fact that Wes patiently sits through the utter nonsense that this dude "firmly believes has at least some truth in it", just because "I mean come on Bro, like that's just like what the church does yo", and then so perfectly, systematically and exhaustively debunks all of it, is amazing! Wes is on fire right now. We need to get him on Rogan to debunk a lot of the same ahistorical, Ancient Aliens nonsense that Joe thinks has some merit to it. If all these dudes realized just how fallacious all of that stuff they've heard so much actually is, and got to hear how incredible the actual historical evidence for Christianity is, they might find their way to Jesus. Wes is the man to evangelize these guys for sure. God speed brother!
How does he debunk anything? There's 0 evidence of Jesus. It makes no sense and all his "evidence" is trust me bro based on the books. Tell me this, if those books were written today would you believe it? I'm gonna guess no and the entire reason thr bible even matters today is because of its age. I bet if I wrote about Gerald the giraffe God today and hid it for 5000 years people of that time would be doing the exact same thing people have done with thr bible.
Ya thats some crazy glazing. Even may I say, idolatry. If you think someone that can regurgitate a bunch of history is what’s going to lead people to Christ then you don’t understand that most simplistic basis of what God is. The way to God isn’t thru a bunch of information that has been passed down through the slimey hands of man.
JRE needs to have Wes on. They let Billy Carson on with how wrong that guy was on about everything. Wes would bring some much needed clarity on the Bible history.
I agree, but i honestly don't think Joe Rogaine wants to hear the Truth, that is why he entertains so many mystics and heretics and allows them free reign to spread their fantasies. Plus i don't think Joe takes Christians seriously, as most anti Christians he thinks we're so biased, illogical, science deniers and walking in blind faith. However, the Holy Ghost most certainly could draw Joe's heart to invite someone like Wes on, though i can think of some others that would be just as good, or even better as an option. Joe has such a large platform that if the Holy Ghost were to lead him to invite someone like Wes on to share the Truth it would make a major impact on the culture in the US. And its certainly possible that Joe may feel compelled to invite Wes on seeing he just had Billy on his show a few months ago, and the uproar that is spreading about Wes humiliating him, humbly and kindly in Christian love of course. Haha. Though i don't expect much from Joe because just as he thinks about Christians, he's actually the one with the biases that prevent him from even considering the option of Christianity. Just his response to kid rock on his show trying to talk about Jesus Christ has shown his bias. I personally think Dr Kent Hovind would be a better option for Joe to have on his show, or even John Lenox. It's really too bad Dr Chuck Missler is passed, because he was an excellent speaker and extremely knowledgeable in scripture as well as quantum physics, mathematics and other physical sciences and laws of nature
I woke up from surgery after getting an infection from giving birth when I was 18 and couldn’t feel or move my leg from the knee down. I was told I had drop foot syndrome and that I had less than a week 10% chance of walking again. My insurance gave me 60 consecutive days of therapy which made no difference. Finally after months of exhausting all options I pleaded to God to heal me and God told me to visualize walking barefoot on the beach with my son and to tell my toes to move. I did exactly that for months and I slowly but surely regained complete use and feeling. A year later I was at the beach walking barefoot with my son. Amazing to hear Gods power in a similar story. Thank you for the reminder of his Grace 🙏
I was paralyzed too, and I asked the Lord every day for over a month to please heal me. I would say today Lord are you going to heal me, then one night He said stand up. I had to put bricks in my son's stroller and get muscle tone back in my legs, but I got healed too🤗
Sounds like you used visualization to heal yourself. The words you heard to direct you to do that, I am not sure of the Source. Could be the one infinite Creator. But, Paul Wallis teaches the OT 'gods' is plural, not singular. So, they are created beings, not the Source.
This is exactly the kind of content I’m into-right up my alley. I studied theology in university, and the insights and depth of analysis here have been really impressive. Thank you for putting this together; it’s thought-provoking work. Keep it coming! 💯♥️
You studied theology in university, really? And when it came to Moses butchering all the men, young boys, male babies & women with child of the Amalekites & Medianates, but kept the virgin girls (mostly pre-teen children) how did they make you excuse that barbaric butchery? How did they make you believe it's ok to enslave little girls after they've seen their new born baby brothers heads bashed in & their throats slit, & their entire families slaughtered? Did they use the good old "Moses did the will of god" thingy, so stfu & except it, or didn't you cover that in class?
I’ve listened to almost 3 hours of this on my podcast app. Thank you for inviting Wes. He has such a passion for history and Christian topics, and it’s enjoyable to hear him just sit and teach about his favorite things. I’ve followed him for a good while, and I’m glad he’s getting some exposure lately.
YESSSSS! Julian has always given me a good vibe. Very glad he had Wes on, can’t wait to watch this. Podcasters love to have people like Billy Carson on but Wes is on another level, and many don’t want to hear the truth.
i just watch this from 1am to pass 4am. Could listen to Wes talk all day.The man of God just know what he is talking about, not like Billy boy who spread misinformation as truth. Thank you Julian for having Wes Huff on your podcast. I also have just subscribed to your channel.
Thank you for this wonderful discussion. I so appreciated hearing so much truth from Wes. It’s refreshing to hear someone who is so well versed in all of this. Julian you were a wonderful host that also added beautiful thoughts, energy, and questions. I got a lot from this interview and I am so grateful to both of you for making this happen! Thank you!🙏🏻💞 Much love!
I've listened to nearly all of this episode, believe me I'm going to finish listening. I was going to do chores while I listened but I couldn't. I had to just sit and listen. Wes is an amazing scholar and he's a great communicator! He couldn't impart his knowledge if he wasn't a great speaker. I'm 73 and enthralled. I must say, you are a very intelligent young man as well. Great job interviewing. You ask very pertinent interesting questions. I'm happy that I found your channel and I have subscribed. The worst part about the hour long BEAT DOWN is that Wesley could have gone so much harder on Billy 😭😭😭💀 Bro politely barbecued him on the slow roast setting 🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭💀💀
Omg so true It looked like a kindly old man walking a youngster through a wax museum who 10 minutes earlier was ranting loudly about how all his favorite movie stars were frozen in place inside this building He like took him by the hand and lovingly explained how he had no idea what he was looking at lol
Just over halfway through, this is one of the most invaluable videos I've ever seen. Seemingly non-bias takes (at least as much as humanly possible), sources, just an all round amazing video. Thanks for setting this up Julian.
It does say : That to understand the ways of God is too complicated. our human brains cannot fathom infinite let alone the ways of God. Futile? 😅❤ But all will be revealed
I am glad this guy interviewed Wes. I was initially going to make fun of the host's ignorance before realizing he reflects (in a very respectful way) the beliefs of not only the masses but likely lots of Believers. Thanks Wes. And thanks Host - you were exceedingly respectful and presented a good show. I am hoping to hear that you are a Christian soon
I loved that Wes' parents prayed that whatever happened would glorify God💗I doubt they could even imagine how much glory Wes brings to God on a daily basis through his work! Praise God!
This was great! My house is super clean as I multitasked so I could listen to the entire 3 hours 😆 I learned so much, and I hope Wes is invited back. I will definitely share this link on social media for others to enjoy.
Love these dialogues between Julian and Wesley so much! I have come to have great respect for Wes' staunch scholarly and historic research of what the true biblical documents are. These dialogues introduce exchanges of questions, ideas and notions in a manner that sets a clear example of what happens when intelligent people approach each other from a place of mutual respect and a desire for knowledge, understanding and growth. Two new favorite channels in one dialogue.
Tell Mr Huff it has been great to do this crash course on the Biblical etymological rendition of early Christianity, Rome etc . Thanks guys. Also really appreciate the humility, kindness, and professionalism Wes brings to the table as someone with his intellectual stature could brandish a HUGE EGO. Bless you both!
I’m hooked on Wes Huff now. I heard about him through JC Kay, a former New Ager who became a Christian earlier this year. She encouraged her listeners to watch his “debate” with Billy Carson. Finally, we have someone who can knowledgeably set the record straight. I’m now engrossed in his series, “Can I trust the Bible?” It’s like going back to school, but to one that teaches the Truth.
She wasn't just a new ager, her whole thing was being a full blown psychic/medium who did readings and got visions and I believe astral projected. Idk how she didnt come across something dark enough to turn her away long before she finally did because many of the things she claimed to see for awhile sounded pretty dark to me.
I doubt God is using him. He is being used by something to control humanity. We have been controlled by the Vatican for centuries. The evil Roman empire. I'm not bowing down to any God. Religion is an institution of control. Period. Jesus came to teach us just that. Good luck anyhow needing church etc...Jesus said that you are the temple of God therefore God lives within you. Anyway. Not gonna debate this. When the Arcs activate we will know everything.
Have Wes get on with Billy Carson to run their debate back and this time make sure Billy comes prepared so he doesn’t try to threaten legal action unless the debate is removed from the Internet. Allegedly of course.
Would LOVE to see that... I doubt @billycarsonofficial would ever commit to that again. Billy got a gentle 🍑 whooping from the nicest Ancient expert out there! Great work @WesHuff !! 👏
Julian, thank you for your openness and curiosity to hear Wes. God has given you that tender heart for a reason! Wes, I am so grateful for your fortitude, humility, and the legit smarts to walk this walk. Praying guidance and protection over your family! I specifically prayed many months back for someone with your adept gifting to lovingly correct Billy Carson because so many people were being led astray. Still praying his root wounds are healed. Anyway, thanks guys!!!

I needed this podcast today. I mean really needed it. I just lost my little brother last week and I am of Christian faith. But was so angry with god. And still struggling with that a bit. But idk listening to this podcast was not only a very good distraction from my grief as I’m not ready to accept it and cuz I love all of Julian’s podcasts but also gave me the insight I needed to a lot of the questions I’ve been grappling with and the unsurety I’ve had in my faith recently.
Aw luv so so sorry. My son died nearly 2 years ago. Every day I ask myself why I'm so sad and then I realise. It's hard but I know I'll see him again in Heaven. X
Huge condolences for Your loss May you have Your faith strengthened and may your heart comforted, may your anger turn into the deepest Love knowing that Your Father will restore everything So grateful You found this presentation and found it just what you needed, may the Father utilise the algorithm accordingly to place many more insightful, uplifting and researched productions to reveal the scriptures in more ways than thought possible. I love your honesty in regards to the anger felt, Your Father will indeed feel likewise and proud of You for expressing that, He will lift you up and carry you through. Much love
I first learned about Wes through his debate with Billy Carson and ever since then I’ve been trying to find as much content from this man. I listened to the entirety of this podcast (all 3 hours) nonstops; I couldn’t stop or pause for a second. This recent interview, as of today, was a banquet of information from Wes about his belief and his knowledge of ancient scripture was mind blowing. Fantastic interview and excellent discussion from both the host and Wes; I really enjoyed how flexible and curious Julian is overall with his comments, questions and open minded. I really wish more interviewers/podcasters were like Julian.
You know truth is he went a little bit light on him didn't he? I don't know how people let Billy get a moment of our time. Steven Greer also makes me sick.....
Your paralysis healing reminds me of pastor Duane Miller who lost most of his voice after a bout with flu but it healed live on tape while he was hoarsely preaching about healing. The tape is awesome and makes me cry listening to it.
Brothers and sister, We did it! Another Julian guest gets on to Rogan and does amazing! Wes Huff is a champion! Julian is truly a blessing to our generation! 🔥🔪🛡✝🛡🗡🔥
Thank you Wes for correcting the host on the Council of Nicaea misconceptions. I still don't know how people still get it wrong. All they have to do is do a little research. It had nothing to do with the Canon of Scripture, but with the Arian Heresy.
Not sure who says that. I always heard councils of Rome, Hippo, and Carthage affirmed the Canon, and then it was once again affirmed and made dogma at Trent.
Just read the whole Bible first. Get to know God. God promises to give you knowledge and understanding of who He is if we ask. The conditions to be grafted in is where people having a hard time with God they want to serve God on what suits their life style and thinking.
@@idajansenvanvuuren4356Which canon of the Bible though? The original 73 books or the protestant canon with 7 books missing? Also why would you trust the Bible to be the word of God if you don't know the Church that established the canon? It's important to remember Christ first established his Church, which later gave us the Bible. First one must understand why they should trust the Bible to be the word of God. If you don't trust the Church that gave you the Bible why trust the Bible? And how should the Bible be interpreted? Without the Church it's impossible to properly understand the Bible, just look at the amount of denominations, each with their own interpretation. The Bible was never meant to be read alone, it is primarily a liturgical book that was meant to be read in communal worship. Without the liturgical aspect you will end up missing out on the true meaning of scripture.
@@idajansenvanvuuren4356 If it was that easy, it wouldn't be as insanely difficult and confusing as it IS. I've read the Bible all the way through multiple times, as well as many more book/passage readings and studies. I have done this for decades and will continue to do so, but God has *never* given me answers or understanding. I am only one out of MANY in the same horrible situation.

It is rather refreshing. I'm by no means a Christian, but the religions coming out of the Levant in general are just incredibly fascinating and interesting to me, and always have been. I've always enjoyed studying and learning about Judaism, Christianity, Islam, etc. Christianity in particular tho. It's great to hear from a Christian who is also an educated historian, and has a thorough understanding of the bible from several different perspectives. And who can form a logical argument and make a rational point that doesn't just boil down to: "Well the version of the bible that King James approved says it's true, so it's true."
He claimed that new testament cannon was already completely established within the second century, which is simply wrong. That's a basic fact that he should know about if he does this for a living. If he can't get that right, how does he have the credibility to talk about anything else historical?
I remember in like 94'. In my first grade play. (Catholic School) I was Saint Steven. It went like this... "I am Saint Steven. I was very Holy and Brave. Many people did not like me. So, they stoned me to death. I died as the first Martyr." Til the day, I still remember my first play ever 31 years ago. Lol
I had a lot of bad things happen to me as child growing up, as an adult now I can judge someone’s character and intentions pretty well, Wes has a clean purity emanating from his words and body language I haven’t seen for a long time
Thankful to God that he shined his light on Wes so that he can bring a lot of questioning Christians back home to God through Jesus. There’s So much misinformation is out there being spilled out by frauds like Billy but the truth always prevail. God knew just what we needed when we needed it thank you father for blessing us with souls like Wesley
I came to listen to Wes because RUclips suggested me this video but I'll subscribe to Julian because I appreciate people like him platforming thoughtful Christians and letting the viewers decide what makes sense to them Good job to both of you! I listened this episode from start to finish and learned so much!
I wish Wes would go deeper into the Theology of the council of Nicea. The Christians had a problem with "There was a time when the son was not" because it meant the son was a CREATED being and was therefore susceptible to corruption. Coming into being is a CHANGE, and that meant He could change for the worse. Orthodox Christianity asserts that He was begotten, not made. He is very God of very God.
Awesome guest you had on! Wes definitely knows his stuff about manuscripts, historical context, languages and is well versed in the Bible. Also, Julian, you do an awesome job at mirroring Wes (asking a question by repeating 1-3 words, with an upward inflection tone of voice), which very naturally keeps the conversation going, and allows him to unpack a new topic that was just mentioned. I really enjoyed this podcast and look forward to more episodes covering Christianity and faith. Well done gentlemen! 👏😃
Julian, thank you for having someone so knowledgable on the history of the Bible and an accurate understanding of scripture. There's so much depth to the Bible and the meaning of individual passages can be so misinterpreted if someone doesn't know that the meaning of every verse has to be defined by the other verses.
@@RockerfellerRothchild1776and without tradition there is no Christianity lol.. - tradition is equal important, because The Scripture is a tradition of The church as well
I would be sincerely surprised if Wes does not return to the root of the Christian faith in the Catholic Church. Regardless, keep working through him Holy Spirit!
Wes won't join the Roman Catholic church. He studies Islam and has no desire to share the same god as Muslims and Catholics do (according to the Popes and Vatican II.)
Julian has been an excellent interviewer, because he seems really curious about everything. Constantly asking ‘why’.. and Wes, an excellent interviewee, because he’s not only well informed, but gracious too! Perfect combo!
3:15:46 The Jews at Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, seemed to treat 1 Enoch with significant respect, possibly even as Scripture. They had a specific way of preserving and distinguishing religious texts from non-religious ones. The fact that 1 Enoch was preserved alongside other biblical texts shows it held a level of authority for them. Their theology, like the judgment of fallen angels and apocalyptic themes, aligns closely with 1 Enoch. While it may not have been formally ‘canonical,’ it was clearly influential and central to their beliefs.
I praise God for you Wes and your work, brother! Billy Carson would have NEVER done a debate with Wes if he had seen an interview like this first, lol.

@@prodgoswamii he posted a video calling the debate an ambush and saying it was all a set up. Billy never intended on learning and accepting he was wrong. He came thinking he had all this evidence against Christianity and the bible and now hes suing everyone involved.
Absolutely fascinating podcast and great presenting. I've recently become a follower of Wes Huff after the whole fiasco with Billy Carson. His historic knowledge of early Christianity and the ancient text sources is incredible.
The Western Church viz., Roman Rite Church, selected the Formal Canon 382 a.d., Council of Rome. This was due to Jerome and Augustine arguing about which books should be translated into the common tongue (vulgata). The Jews around 100 a.d., removed the second canon, which Jerome agreed with; while Augustine argued that the LXX, which was used by Christians, should remain the standard. Thus, the Council of Rome where Pope Damasus I decreed the Canon of 73 books (give or take, as the Eastern Catholics & Orthodox consider Daniel chapter 13 as the book Susanna, and chapter 14 as the book of Bel and the Dragon). The Eastern Catholics use the General Canon, which includes extra books such as The Prayer of Manasseh, III Maccabees, etc. The Ethiopian Catholics includes further books, e.g., Book of Enoch. The Protestants have 66 books as they followed the Jews, as it is said. However, Martin Luther disliked a couple of the Deutero-Canonical (Second Canon) books as they were used to refute his arguments against the Catholic Church. Since it wouldn't look right for him to remove only those books, he decided to make claim that the whole Second Canon was not truly inspired. He then moved them to the appendix. King James I did the same (where the KJV becamethe standard foe the English speaking folk). Since these books were not considered to be as important as the books held in the Canon; to save on printing cost, they merely fell out of print. The same thing happened with the Catholic Bible, e.g., Prayer of Manasseh, III & IV Esdras, Psalms 151, etc., are no longer found in Catholic Bibles. Apocryphal and Para-Canonical texts are still used by Catholics and Orthodox alike, though one needs to make sure that they are legitimate writings e.g., Apocalypse of Peter (legit) whereas the Gospel of Peter (Docetic writing). This is were a great deal of research comes into play to avoid any psudopigraphic texts. Theirs a lot more to it, though this is a very general history.
my only qualm is how readily the ancient fathers are dismissed as if a modern theologian must automatically be believed. The Book of Enoch isn't banned in the Catholic Church it wasn't included because some tracts were considered to unreliable, but nevertheless Catholics are allowed to read it. Infact there are seven more books in the Catholic Bible that are included because they were considered more right than wrong.
"More right than wrong" should not be the requirement to be included as Canon for those that consider scripture as the infallible word of God. Historical errors (Judith 1:5/Baruch 6:2), forgiveness of sin through human effort (Tobit/2 Maccabees), and condoning sorcery (Tobit 6:5-8) are all enough to not include with text that we consider "God-breathed", I'm not sure but I would assume this is why those 7 books are not in the Tanakh
Thank you, Julian, for letting Wes speak. I'm watching this after seeing Wes "debate" Billy Carson and that moderator had me fuming. This was a great interview and I've learned a lot. Wes is gonna do great things, especially after his Rogan episode airs.
Outstanding demonstration of patience and diligence in communicating with a clearly unbelieving doubter. Like the Bible even predicts this exact person "in the last days" like. Good job Wes.
Misguided brother, the purpose here is to understand the sociological context and timeline of early Christianity. Not persuading people to believe and adhere to it's theology.
@@rakim126he’s still more or less saying the same thing you are though, and me. This is a strong demonstration of how to help someone with very little understanding, but more damagingly, a flourishing belief that they have abundant understanding, _real_ understanding, without putting up a wall by damaging their fragile obstructive egos. This is how you work around the Dunning Kruger effect in an individual, if your goal is truly for them to know truth, despite themselves.

The Billy Carson debate was so funny. Huff is so intelligent. Jesus is Lord!

That's beautiful. Thank you for sharing this 💯

So happy to see you on a great trajectory. Yes! All things are possible through Christ. You can do this!
Praise God. Hope it wasn't vaccine related.

Don’t you hate it when non canonical books are called “banned”. No one is trying to prevent you from reading them. They just didn’t make the A Team.
Yes, it's unfortunate.
if Christ and the apostles quote from them as scripture, it’s good enough for me
@IanB3rry
Christ didn't quote from them, apostles did a tiny bit, but where did you get the idea they quoted them as Scriptures? They quoted Pagans, are you gonna accept those as Scriptures as well? Enoch is quoted explicitly - is that sufficient for you to add it to the canon as well?
Not canonical…I think you misunderstood
"they were too dark and gruesome for Christians!!". I get so tired of hearing this.
The glazing ur doing rn is crazy bro.
Ya thats some crazy glazing. Even may I say, idolatry. If you think someone that can regurgitate a bunch of history is what’s going to lead people to Christ then you don’t understand that most simplistic basis of what God is.
Wes was on JRE yesterday.
First time ever i joined a patreon to see the rest of the episode. Great questions good sir! Well done.

You studied theology in university, really? Your paralysis healing reminds me of pastor Duane Miller who lost most of his voice after a bout with flu but it healed live on tape while he was hoarsely preaching about healing. The tape is awesome and makes me cry listening to it.
He should go to the hospital and heal everyone then 🤡
I heard that sermon was awesome!
I have that sermon on tape, too. It was so moving to hear the healing taking place as he spoke. Amazing!!!

'my parents prayed that God would be glorified' amazing
There are a lot of things to know, and so there that a lot of things that people don’t know. Even you believe it or not.
I always pray and ask God to not only show me the truth, but to also help me to receive it. I pray for guidance and understanding. I have done this for decades and will continue to do so, but God has *never* given me answers or understanding. I am only one out of MANY in the same horrible situation.
This is so fascinating! I would love to see Wes do a historical bible study of all the books in the bible, especially revelation.
Oh my goodness, I cannot get enough of this subject. We is so humble yet so knowledgeable and he’s not annoyed at all when a lot of questions are asked . And I’m so thankful that the interviewer asks these questions, because so many of them- I was asking the same thing. lol Thank you guys for a wonderful show. Praise Jesus !!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌
nice, finally a guest who knows the Bible and history
It is rather refreshing. I'm by no means a Christian, but the religions coming out of the Levant in general are just incredibly fascinating and interesting to me, and always have been. I've always enjoyed studying and learning about Judaism, Christianity, Islam, etc. Christianity in particular tho. It's great to hear from a Christian who is also an educated historian, and has a thorough understanding of the bible from several different perspectives. And who can form a logical argument and make a rational point that doesn't just boil down to: "Well the version of the bible that King James approved says it's true, so it's true."
Definitely a first for this podcast
He claimed that new testament cannon was already completely established within the second century, which is simply wrong. That's a basic fact that he should know about if he does this for a living. If he can't get that right, how does he have the credibility to talk about anything else historical?
@@hevelhevelYou are incorrect
@@hevelhevelyou are incorrect lad, by the start of the 3rd century, the entire of Christianity we have today was completely established.

I remember in like 94'. In my first grade play. (Catholic School) I was Saint Steven. It went like this...
"I am Saint Steven. I was very Holy and Brave. Many people did not like me. So, they stoned me to death. I died as the first Martyr."
Til the day, I still remember my first play ever 31 years ago. Lol
Masterclass from Wes, what a blessing the Carson situation has brought more ears to this dude. He's gonna help so many people.

Thankful to God that he shined his light on Wes so that he can bring a lot of questioning Christians back home to God through Jesus.

Good job to both of you! I listened this episode from start to finish and learned so much!

Watching Wes Huff CRUSH Billy Carson was a thing of beauty...🤌
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😊💯💯💯
Wes Huff never had a receipts at least Billy Carson has the receipts to prove. This is how Christians tend to slaughter other Christians. This is sad.
I felt it was like watching a car wreck but, at least he showed Billy Carson proof that he was wrong.
@@ComedianBobFarrell and was super polite while doing it
Yup, a thing of beauty is an understatement!!! I think I enjoyed it too much, but I did,and wish I had a bowl of popcorn 😅😂😅
Glad to see Wesley Huff here!
Julian, thank you for having someone so knowledgable on the history of the Bible and an accurate understanding of scripture. There's so much depth to the Bible and the meaning of individual passages can be so misinterpreted if someone doesn't know that the meaning of every verse has to be defined by the other verses.
So you're arguing for Tradition ? Lol
He has some knowledge but not all. 😂
Yet the guest that he has on has zero authority to interpret scripture, but OK😂
@@RockerfellerRothchild1776and without tradition there is no Christianity lol..
- tradition is equal important, because The Scripture is a tradition of The church as well
As a Roman Catholic convert, I don't agree with everything Wesley professes, but I LOVE how he brings Christian history to the Protestant community.
I also converted to Roman Catholicism. I hope he converts too.

I would be sincerely surprised if Wes does not return to the root of the Christian faith in the Catholic Church. Regardless, keep working through him Holy Spirit!
Wes won't join the Roman Catholic church. He studies Islam and has no desire to share the same god as Muslims and Catholics do (according to the Popes and Vatican II.)
u need to divorce that. RC is on the side of antichrist. LEAVE.
Popularity does not define canonicity.

Thank you for having him on! What an amazing guest, I was riveted for the entire three hours.
The book of Enoch consists in it a lot of heretical positions for example in 1 Enoch 71 Enoch is described as being the Messiah and not Jesus.

@@rakim126well said! The Bible is full of holes still.
@@rakim126he’s still more or less saying the same thing you are though, and me. This is how you work around the Dunning Kruger effect in an individual, if your goal is truly for them to know truth, despite themselves.
