This unit is a small oven. The only way I found to clean the screen, grill parts to apply heavy duty oven cleaner spray. After 10-15 minutes, rub with a paper towel and see how much grease will come off. It is useless to wash these parts in the dish washer. You can wash it and apply the oven cleaner spray afterwards and see a lot of grease will still come off. The appliance is great but difficult to clean.

I have had this grill for 2 years now.. I like it ; it does grilling; but the ONE MAJOR problem with this grill is the nasty CLEANING of the appliance: they give you the little scrub brush and it works for the grill itself and the pan and that is it; the brush does not really clean the splatter shield - I have to use SOS pad now - but becareful of the micro steel fibres that could leave residue in between cracks.. THE WORSE cleaning of the machine is the upper fan area; YOU CANNOT clean UP there !!!! I have used steel wool pad or somekind of steel toothbrush that I bought at Home deposit or Canadian tire, or Lowes store...... The top part of the fan area builds up grease and it needs to unscrew the top part of and then dismantle it apart. I may have to do that now.... Ninja emailed me back to not do that as it would void the warranty - well.. its been 2 years now.. so no warranty is available... I am at a point now to recycle this ninja grill and look for a new grill because of the impossibility of cleaning that upper fan area; Ninja stupidly not creating any way of dismantling the top fan area to in order to properly clean it---- THAT IS MY BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT OF THIS NINJA GRILL APPLIANCE !!!!! ; i MAY LOOK FOR NINJA EXL GRILL..... (WIDER) BUT i DONT THINK YOU CAN CLEAN UPPER PART AS WELL..- SAME PROBLEM ..

I received & used it last night for the first time and have spent all of today trying to figure out how to clean that upper area near the fan. I didn’t realize this would be a problem. The customer support line is closed due to New Years Day but I am definitely going to inquire about this… if this is just after one use, I can’t imagine how it will look after some regular use.

@@almarybenitez8863 ..yup... I still have the grill....and unfortunately...everything you cook, grill, roast...in the ninja grill...cakes, deposits more and more grease in the upper fan area...and my friend has one ..and he managed to clean it by unscrewing the entire fan convection upper chamber and cleaned it...problems: it was very difficult to piece it back together and use it again.....I believe the ninja grill company wants you to buy a new one all the time...very similar to disposable items (cell phones, TV, other electronics etc and including home appliances)

I suspect that you have used yours without the spatter shield in place several times for it to become so messy.
I have had my until for 2.5 years. It gets a lot of use. I ALWAYS have the spatter shield in place when cooking anything. And
I wash all the removable components in the dish washer. after every use. Although there is a light staining in the fan area, it
is not really that soiled after such a long period of use.

I love my Foodie Grill and use it almost daily, but it’s a huge pain to clean. I usually soak in in Dawn Powerwash for a few minutes then scrub off what comes off easily, then I soak it in soapy water for a few hours and lightly scrub it again, then I put it through the dishwasher. Once I remove it from the dishwasher, it still has crusty food stuck to it, so then I repeat the process of soaking it in Dawn Powerwash and scrubbing it for probably 5-10 minutes again, at which point it’s usually clean. Definitely the hardest thing to clean out all kitchen appliances I’ve used. Maybe I’ll try boiling water and then pouring it in and letting it soak in that. Ideally I would eliminate the need for post-dishwasher cleaning. I’m talking about the actual grill part itself. Never had too much issue cleaning the holder part or the air fryer basket.

We are sorry to hear about this, Kat. We are happy to help you. Soaking the splatter shield overnight will help soften the baked-on grease. After soaking, use the cleaning brush to remove the grease from the stainless steel frame and front tabs. To deep clean the splatter shield, put it in a pot of water and boil it for 10 minutes. Then, rinse with room temperature water and allow to dry completely. Over time the splatter shield may discolor as grease burns onto it. This will not affect the performance of the splatter shield. Above the spatter screen is the heating element and behind the heating element is a fan that has a framework around it that directs air towards the fan. That fan and the frame get quite dirty with grease and smoke and I have to wonder if it’s attracting insects or bacteria and I would like to be able to clean it. The heating element has a screwed down support that has two Phillips screws holding it up. I am tempted to unscrew the support and manipulate the heating element so I could access the fan blades and frame, but of course, a company would never advise a consumer to attempt this because it is potentially dangerous and damaging to the components, especially the wires that power the heating element. So, if I were to attempt this, I would unplug the machine and be extremely careful with how I manipulate anything and being mindful about not doing this unless it was completely cool and to not splash any liquids up into any electrical wires or motors. I wish there was a cleanable and detachable shield between the spatter screen and the heating element.

We're sorry to hear the fan and the frame get quite dirty with grease and smoke! Please avoid removing any screws, as this would be considered tampering, and would void your warranty. Then I use the brush for the mesh and a scrubbing pad for the outer ring. Then you have to wash it good to get all the oven cleaner off it. I wash it by hand and run it through the dishwasher. It seems as though this would have been considered during the development/design/testing process, as it is a serious problem with the Ninja products, as well as many other air fryers & indoor grills from other manufacturers. Why fire? Burnt fat is deposited there that cannot be removed, that is the great Achilles heel of your product. Call for that detail to consumer service and they have no solution and if someone dismantles it to clean it voids the guarantee! A pity because without solving this I have to return my Ninja. Any plan to fix this problem? a and it is very common to have problems with the thermometer that is not covered by the guarantee and being in Canada the delivery takes 3 or 4 weeks it is in US dollars and it is not sent at the convenience of the client that is to a P.O. which results in fedex throwing the package at your door and getting it stolen, instead of meeting the customer's needs they complicate it. We recommend remove the splatter shield for cleaning after every use. First allow the splatter shield to cool completely, then remove it by using your thumb to release the front clip by pushing the front clip upward, and using your other hand to pull one of the tabs toward you. This will release the splatter shield, allowing you to pull it out of the slot along the back of the hood. You can then wipe behind it.
