I have just cleaned my ninja with this method. I used hot water, bicarbonate and a glug of lemon juice. It looked pretty clean before I started but after an hour on pressure it was done and the colour of the water was pretty ming , The rubber seal comes off and you can get behind it, great stuff thanks for posting 🤙🏻🤙🏻

Hi Susannah, I have recently found your channel and I love the way your videos are clear and simple to follow. I have a Ninja 15, still boxed as I am currently upgrading my kitchen, can’t wait to try it out! My old Ninja was used everyday. I cleaned it the same way but instead of pressure I sautéed boiling water to a rapid boil, turned it off and let the steam clean the coils. Also used the trusty toothbrush! The basket I soaked in a dishwasher tab overnight and then gently scrubbed with a metal scourer. Comes out good as new. Keep up the videos. Love your channel, thank you! ❤

Hi Susannah, I used your method of cleaning my Ninja Foodi and was reasonably pleased with the results. However I saw a chap on another blog who cleaned his air fryers in the following way a few days ago. I tried it and it was even better and quicker than yours. My ninja was getting stains on the non stick pot and the lid was difficult to clean the burnt on bits even every two weeks.
Put in the pot and the crisper basket and stand. Add some hot water to cover the bottom of the basket and put in a dishwasher tablet. (I used Fairy). Steam setting for only 10 minutes. Leave to cool a bit and talk about wipe clean easily! The wrungs in the lid only needed a little rub with a plastic scratcher. The gasket was super clean and the whole thing only needed a rinse and wipe out. The pot is stain free (I won’t put it in the dishwasher as spoils non-stick pans!) there was no residual smell but you could do a quick steam with lemon pieces if you wish. Not only will your Ninja look and smell good it should extend its life! I have a twin draw air fryer too which I had before the Foodi and I clean it by putting in hot water, a dishwasher tablet in each drawer, and air fry for a bit longer. Maybe 15 minutes. The grease which had cooked on is gone! Wowser! Love your cooking programme, I was terrified when I first had my Foodi but now my oven is an additional store cupboard and the Foodi sits on the hob as my husband has a pacemaker and shouldn’t get too near the induction hob!

Hi Brenda, I have heard about this method but I have reluctant to use it or tell others as I have seen people having trouble using a dishwasher tablet. I suppose it is very concentrated in a small area unlike a whole dishwasher. I have seen people say that its ruined the non-stick. Maybe they were unlucky or did something wrong but I thought I would let you know. thanks for watching my videos and take care, Susannah

Did this today. Worked great. First put some baking soda in the basket. Next added boiling water. Then added about a tablespoon of lemon juice. My air fryer does not have a pressure cook setting so I just picked the roast setting and ran for 20 min. Pulled out the grill and wiped it clean with a cloth. Also wiped down the inside of the basket. Will definitely use this method again.

  • @paulcox60

I too use this method of cleaning my 15 in 1 and it is pretty effective. I would add though that, my understanding (from numerous posts on a Ninja Facebook page) the brown colour of the water is apparently due to a chemical reaction of the citric acid in the lemon juice and the bicarbonate of soda; it’s not a measure of how dirty your air fryer was and how much cleaner it is now. This isn’t to say it isn’t clean, it is…
The other thing I would say is that to get both, the air fryer basket and the basin/bowl really clean I would use a damp cloth with a little of the bicarb and rub that burned on grease off the surfaces of both. Yes, it takes a bit of elbow grease but, working methodically around each utensil, it will come up absolutely sparkling. This method can also be used on ceramic frying pans which have started to stick. The bicarb simply abrades away any burned on contaminants without any damage whatsoever to the surface of the utensil. When finished simply rinse away with water (hot or cold, doesn’t matter) any you can literally feel how clean it is.
Never underestimate the cleaning power of simple bicarbonate of soda.

Great video as usual!! Pardon the noob question, but why add bicarb (an alkali) to lemon (which is acidic). Surely that neutralises (both literally and figuratively!) the effect of both ingredients?
I'd have thought perhaps doing 2 separate rounds (1 with lemon and a second one with bicarb) might be more effective, but I'm sure you have a reason for mixing them (eg the acidic lemon juice corroding the metal etc)

Agree that the resulting water looks like gravy - personally wouldnt throw in quartered lemons - they made a mushy mess which was a pain to get off the basket... perhaps lemon juice would be a better option. What I dont understand is why in this day and age Ninja cant come up with an easier to clean inside to its product, particularly the frying basket, which seems to be made of some weird metal designed to get dirty and impossible to really clean completely. However the pressure cooking clean certainly works to a good extent.

Great. 👍 Tho please bare in mind the lid is very heavy and prone to breaking. So be gentle and support the lid in the opposite direction you apply force from scrubbing. 👍 Protect your investment.

Hi, This would need to be done under pressure as its the steam that helps the cleaning process. Do you have sear/saute? You could try that

Thank you for the tips. Right now I am having trouble with the seal. Machine kept saying “no pressure “ I clean and installed the seal and nothing any idea what I am doing wrong. Then I noticed that the top cover close to the weight pressure nut the lid is letting. Can that be the problem? I used my ninja four time a week

    • @susannahskitchen
      @susannahskitchen  9 месяцев назад

Hi, I'm a bit baffled because no pressure is normally a lack of liquid but the machine will tell you this. When I've had this its been to do with the lid seal and like you I've cleaned it and wiggled it but mine has then been fine. I did have a problem the other day with saying the lid wasn't closed the it was so I couldn't reach pressure. I would give Ninja a phone call about this. Unfortunately I do think the machine can be a bit temperamental. I hope Ninja can help you with this

Interesting that yours has that cage around the fan. Mine is only 14 months old and it doesn't have that, but otherwise looks identical. My fan blades are really filthy due to all of the air frying, and the build up inside the lid is pretty bad. I tried vinegar and water previously, but i didn't set it for nearly as long. I'm going to try again with lemon and water for longer and see if it's better.

do the cooking several times. maybe a dishwasher tab would do the job as well.
i just read that aluminum gets damaged when exposed to Na2CO3. so 2 things to check. are there aluminum in the cooker and chemical formula.
could be fatal if there's metal that gets weakened and boiling water under pressure. so i would write the producer and find out.
another tip, i use my pressure cooker in the bathroom with a open window, it's a lot of moisture that you release in the house if you use it often.

Hi, because you can’t really access this area the only way is through the use of steam. If you do the cleaning process once but it’s still not clean enough I would repeat the process. I use an old toothbrush to reach as much as I can to give it a little scrub. I suppose regular cleaning is the answer but like most of us we just don’t get time.

It makes a ticking sound sometimes when it's building up pressure. I've prob got so use to the noise I don't take any notice of it! It's not really that loud but does sound strange. Trust the process and try again. It's worth just doing a test with water only to start with to build you confidence if you are worries about using it
