Thank you, for the great tutorial! I have the same Breville toaster oven and use it almost every day! My secret of a clean oven is I don't let my family use it:)
@@traceystanphill725 That sounds like a good idea, but I’ve decided not to do it. The reason is I checked the Breville manual and found an important safeguard on page 3 , "Do not cover the crumb tray or any part of the oven with metal foil. This will cause overheating of the oven." Additionally, there are a few other downsides, like foil blocking proper airflow and affecting heat distribution.
Great tutorial! Would like to add from my own experience and the owners care instructions. Place dry paper towel over the quarts heating elements (Breville -clear rods) these are very fragile and liquid can destroy them, even a little bit. Hope this helps and happy cleaning everyone.

I tried using oven cleaner before and that just prove to be a giant messy undertaking that left remnants that took a while to go away. Utilizing dawn and the abrasives is a great idea; I found steel wool was really helping my heavily burnt-oil-laden toaster oven.
The algorithms RUclips uses are incredible. I have that EXACT model toaster oven and as I was using it yesterday, I said, “ugh this is getting kinda gross I should wash this thing...” Thanks !
I literally looked inside mine and said "How am I gonna clean this?" 1 hour later this is in my feed. I didn't say it out loud though so I have some special gift I suppose.
You did a terrific job on that. Mine combines a toaster oven/air fryer/rotisserie, and I haven’t used the last two features because of the cleanup after. You’ve given me hope, so I’ll airfry in it this weekend in the hope that the mess will be manageable.
Please read your manual before you spray all that stuff inside. I have a COSORI that has those features. It is very specific on how to use and clean the oven to protect the heating elements and the non-stick interior coatings. Cooking stains, accumulated over time, do not matter. Stains (not accumulated grease and crumbs) do not affect the cooking capability of your toaster oven. Please, please just follow the directions in your manual for how to safely clean it.
I've used an oven cleaner a couple of months ago. The usual order: I've sprayed, waited, cleaned using a cloth, rinsed with a cloth, and when it's dry, I turned it on for 15 mins; my toaster oven started smoking like some baking was burning there. It was smoking for 4 or 5 tries to turn it on. Now it's not smoking, but it doesn't heat well (you can safely touch anything that was inside at 230C for half an hour).
@@whenwherewhatwhywhoHow Of course. Even though I have a fire extinguisher near the kitchen, and the breakers are quite close, I won't be using a faulty electrical device.

I've tried everything to clean my toaster oven with little success, especially on the bottom tray. If nothing else works, I've used oven cleaner. It does work. The maker of mine says specifically not to use it but on tough burnt on gunk, it worked. I now use aluminum foil all the time.
I have the Breville toaster oven too for like 10yrs and was looking to buy a new one today due to the glass now being stained too much for my liking. Something said search how to clean toaster ovens and several videos ended here. I will try some of these tricks. I think most seem to use steel wool and not the green scrubber. Never thought to use my bar keepers friend on the exterior which is pristine anyway. Thanks!
Wow, this was very helpful. I think I have this same toaster oven (Breville) and I use it daily…it deserves a deep clean and your video has helped me to go forward and get the job done👍🏼, thanks!
Wow, this video was SO helpful! I will definitely get the power wash. I have one of those tip up Ninja toasters and was struggling with how to tackle cleaning it.
Thanks for the tutorial, I love my Breville appliances but the one I’ve found hardest to clean is their smart toaster. I got one heavily used for $6 at a thrift shop recently. I’ve been cleaning the burnt up crumbs with a chopstick and a straw, and taping q-tips dipped in iso to the straws to scrub. Has too much going on inside to do the sink method lol. I eventually got it pretty clean and it makes great toast now. I’d love to see a video from your perspective on how to properly clean a toaster. Some people consider them disposable because they cost so little, but toasters like this Breville are the exact opposite.
Does the bottom open? There may be some kind of knob to swing it open, or it may slide out. That, and shaking it over the sink both from the top and from the bottom should get most of it. I carefully go behind the elements with a slim chopstick or long thin knife (whichever works) to remove chunks of crumbled English muffins etc. of course, I make sure to unplug it before I start.
Amazon sells teflon oven liners. They just lay flat on the bottom tray and then you pull them out and shake and/or wash them off and slide them back in.
You did a great job! It looks brand new! My toaster over looks like this one did before you cleaned it. Going to give it a good clean. Thanks for the tips!
Dawn makes a heavy-duty decreaser that works great on ovens and grills. We use a sheet of aluminum foil on the bottom of our Breville oven. Easier to clean
I have the same toaster oven, as well! I just cleaned mine last month, but still had the baked on grease. I’m going to try the fine steel wool to finish it up. Thank you!
Do you prefer bar keepers over a stainless steel cleaner? I worry about damaging surfaces but i absolutely love bar keepers. Thank you for your videos, very helpful!!!
Hey there, really appreciate the video. It helped me figure out what I need to do for my toaster oven and my large oven. I like your attitude and your happy go lucky way of doing the video. I think you are lifting and it really helps people when they’re trying to figure out how to clean things that don’t wanna come clean.
@@angellas.1314 Zep is a brand of industrial cleaning products. They have several degreasers in their lineup, but I'm not sure what the differences between them are.
Didn't have the spray Dawn, so I just improvised with some in a spray bottle with water. Didn't make it like new (grease was really caked up 😅) but it got a lot off. The baking soda paste helped so much with the inside, it's amazing. Probably could've gotten ours looking almost new if I let it sit/trays soak even longer. Wake up call to deep clean at least once a year 😂
I have the Breville Combi Wave 3 which is a microwave, convection oven and air fryer in one. I’ve since bought a separate air fryer as the all in one is so difficult to clean. The element is all across the top and it’s just impossible to get under (over?) it to get to the actual top of the unit, and the back wall is awful to do as well. It doesn’t help that the door opens sideways and only 90°, so you can’t even tip it up on its back to get to the tricky spots. I might get some wire wool to try the back again though.
I have that same Breville oven. The manual tells you to be very careful not to touch the elements. I clean mine much the same way as in the video but I don’t let the spray get on the elements.
I wrapped the crumb tray with aluminum foil, and put a sheet of aluminum foil at the back of the oven which the rack can keep it in place. The rack, door and outside are easy to clean, they won’t be that dirty if clean them after every use.
My toaster oven came with a warning, "do not put aluminum foil on the bottom." It was the first thing I did when I received it, before reading the directions. So, I took the foil out. But, I think it is a good idea to use it. Perhaps it is a fire hazard if it's not changed often? I don't know. The reason I'm here watching your video is that I followed Cuisinart's instruction. Once I get it clean I'm using the foil. Thank you!
Once your steel wool starts to dry, it begins to rust. I use it to clean our wood burning stove as it is gentle on the steel door frame. To extend the life of your steel wool, I have found drying it on 400° in the air fryer for 4 min works best. A conventional oven may take longer, but it seems like such a waste to use the wool once and then have to throw it right out.
Any recommendations on cleaning a Ninja 10-in-1 Smart XL, because they are uncleanable! Recommendations from Ninja to use warm soapy water and soft cloth is basically for washing when never used!
Some of these toaster ovens are badly designed. They should all be made with durable coatings which can take oven cleaner, but most of them don't. They also have exposed elements both top and bottom, which it is almost impossible to clean under, especially the top element. I just went ahead and used oven cleaner on mine anyway - I couldn't care less about the non stick coating - as we all know it's not non stick anyway, otherwize these videos wouldn't be necessary, would they ? It destroyed the look of the surface, but did not affect it's performance - but ! You need to prepare the inside properly. Cover the fan guard with damp paper towel so it sticks to the surface. Carefully wrap the elements in cling wrap, paying particular attention to where the element is attached to the wall of your oven. Seal these points off with tape if you want. Take all the racks out of your oven, spray them generously with oven cleaner, then wrap them up with cling wrap and leave overnight. Rinse them off next day. Spray the inside of the cold oven with oven cleaner (don't go overboard - you can always do it again )and leave on for thirty minutes. Wipe off with a damp sponge. For difficult to clean bits ( like the oven light ) use an electric toothbrush. I save all my old brush heads and use them like this. Great for getting into grooves and ruts in the surface.
Thank you...I have a Brieville Smart Oven that REALLY Needs a clean....I've got the cleaners on my shopping list....and will hit it soon. I had worried about the elements....so, will go gently on those.... Thank you and have a GREAT day!! CC
Correcto-mundo! on the oven cleaner advice. I used Easy-Off on a regular basis on my Breville Smart Oven Pro, eventually the inside walls coating peeled away.
We have the same Breville oven and use a Silpat or similar silicone sheet because - unlike tinfoil - it sits in the metal plate with no issue but we had issues with the tin foil fitting on the edges. Also, PLEASE, talk about how to clean the very sensitive bars. We use a cleaner meant for the material but it doesn't work well. Please revisit cleaning this oven and talk about the bars at the bottom. TY!!!!
Same. The Breville owner's manual says not to put aluminum foil on the crumb tray or to get any chemicals on the heating elements, which makes cleaning more difficult, especially if there are kids using it who don't always wipe up after each use.
We use a quartz cleaner and gently rub the bars. It works a bit. We use Kickoil brand silicone sheets that fit perfectly. I'm waiting for Amazon to deliver the spray Dawn and steel wool to try them on the Breville.
Don't try to clean the "bars at the bottom". You can damage the heating elements. The instructions that came with both of my toaster ovens said to let food that has dripped onto the elements to simply burn off. Please read the manual that came with your oven, in case it's instructions differ from mine.
Great job! Could you tell me how long it took you to clean this in total? Not sure if I should tackle this myself or just pay to have a cleaning person do this.
Hey! You and I are pretty much the same, except you are more meticulous. I appreciate the encouragement, because mine is disgusting right now. Just like to add one more note here for your other viewers -- do not let your toaster oven get pushed back against the wall if it is plugged in there -- mine did, and the heat from the oven partially melted the cord. I had to wrap it with electrical tape.
A plastic scraper from the Hardware Store before wiping, vacuuming and soaking is my suggestion to a great presentation. I didn’t have Dawn but it is better than most dish soaps and Dawn Spray is excellent. I used Simple Green but it bothers my lungs. It did well though.
Thanks for another great video! I have a question: I cleaned my air fryer with Dawn Power Wash. I’ve rinsed it several times and run it through a few high-heat cycles. There’s still a residual taste and smell of the power wash. Do you have any tips for getting the last bits of residual cleaner off?
Keep it clean every few days. Don't let crumbs accumulate. Wipe off any liquid when oven cools down. I never let my oven get so dirty. Becomes a fire hazard. That Breville is few hundreds dollar. Treated it like a diamond ring.
THANK YOU for pointing out that mixing baking soda and vinegar causes them to neutralize each other. People think the bubbles mean it’s cleaning, and they might as well use plain water!
Also, for stainless steel surfaces (not just here) use white vinegar solution on a cloth to wipe off soap residue on surfaces, then use a water only cloth to go over the surfaces, THEN dry the oven as shown.
Thank you for this very informative video! Agree with not using an oven degreaser. Based on experience, i used the EASY-OFF oven and grill cleaner on my Joule and it ruined the coating inside :(

Is there any good way to clean the grease on the fan? I always have trouble with cleaning that and the roof of the Breville
Brandon please tell me the best lightest vacuum to get for my business 🤔🤔🙏
Thanks, just what I was looking for!
Thank you...I have a Brieville Smart Oven that REALLY Needs a clean....I've got the cleaners on my shopping list....and will hit it soon.
I had worried about the elements....so, will go gently on those....
Thank you and have a GREAT day!!

Correcto-mundo! on the oven cleaner advice. I used Easy-Off on a regular basis on my Breville Smart Oven Pro, eventually the inside walls coating peeled away.
You always have the best, methodical tips! 😊
Wow, thank you!
That is a braville oven....love love mine
What a great job!!!! Amazingly well done!!!!
obsessed! nice job, totally gonna try this now.
Does this also apply to an air fryer?
Thanks for another great video!
I have a question: I cleaned my air fryer with Dawn Power Wash. I’ve rinsed it several times and run it through a few high-heat cycles. There’s still a residual taste and smell of the power wash. Do you have any tips for getting the last bits of residual cleaner off?
Keep it clean every few days. Don't let crumbs accumulate. Wipe off any liquid when oven cools down. I never let my oven get so dirty. Becomes a fire hazard. That Breville is few hundreds dollar. Treated it like a diamond ring.
Well said!
You did a 👏 job . Awesome
This is the best toaster oven!
How did you know I need to clean my toaster oven 😂 Thanks!
Really great job. Ty for being thorough.
Thank you for this very informative video!
Agree with not using an oven degreaser. Based on experience, i used the EASY-OFF oven and grill cleaner on my Joule and it ruined the coating inside :(
I use alluminum foil to wrap the bottom tray. I only change it everytime it gets filthy.
