This unit is a small oven. The only way I found to clean the screen, grill parts to apply heavy duty oven cleaner spray. After 10-15 minutes, rub with a paper towel and see how much grease will come off. It is useless to wash these parts in the dish washer. You can wash it and apply the oven cleaner spray afterwards and see a lot of grease will still come off. The appliance is great but difficult to clean.
I have had this grill for 2 years now.. I like it ; it does grilling; but the ONE MAJOR problem with this grill is the nasty CLEANING of the appliance: they give you the little scrub brush and it works for the grill itself and the pan and that is it; the brush does not really clean the splatter shield - I have to use SOS pad now - but becareful of the micro steel fibres that could leave residue in between cracks.. THE WORSE cleaning of the machine is the upper fan area; YOU CANNOT clean UP there !!!! I have used steel wool pad or somekind of steel toothbrush that I bought at Home deposit or Canadian tire, or Lowes store...... I received & used it last night for the first time and have spent all of today trying to figure out how to clean that upper area near the fan. I didn’t realize this would be a problem. The customer support line is closed due to New Years Day but I am definitely going to inquire about this… if this is just after one use, I can’t imagine how it will look after some regular use.
@@almarybenitez8863 ..yup... I still have the grill....and unfortunately...everything you cook, grill, roast...in the ninja grill...cakes, deposits more and more grease in the upper fan area...and my friend has one ..and he managed to clean it by unscrewing the entire fan convection upper chamber and cleaned it...problems: it was very difficult to piece it back together and use it again.....I believe the ninja grill company wants you to buy a new one all the time...very similar to disposable items (cell phones, TV, other electronics etc and including home appliances)
I suspect that you have used yours without the spatter shield in place several times for it to become so messy. I have had my until for 2.5 years. It gets a lot of use. I ALWAYS have the spatter shield in place when cooking anything. And I wash all the removable components in the dish washer. after every use. Although there is a light staining in the fan area, it is not really that soiled after such a long period of use.
I love my Foodie Grill and use it almost daily, but it’s a huge pain to clean. I usually soak in in Dawn Powerwash for a few minutes then scrub off what comes off easily, then I soak it in soapy water for a few hours and lightly scrub it again, then I put it through the dishwasher. Once I remove it from the dishwasher, it still has crusty food stuck to it, so then I repeat the process of soaking it in Dawn Powerwash and scrubbing it for probably 5-10 minutes again, at which point it’s usually clean. Definitely the hardest thing to clean out all kitchen appliances I’ve used. Maybe I’ll try boiling water and then pouring it in and letting it soak in that. Ideally I would eliminate the need for post-dishwasher cleaning. I’m talking about the actual grill part itself. Never had too much issue cleaning the holder part or the air fryer basket.
We are always working to improve our units, and we truly appreciate your feedback. We will forward your feedback along to our development team for you, so it can be reviewed when we make adjustments to our products.
This video is supposed to be how to clean your Ninja but totally fails to answer the numerous viewers question how to clean the inside of the lid. Trying to evade the questions by saying contact us privately is bloody useless . Time Ninja answered what everyone wants to know is how to clean it on this machine and the others in their ranges. I love my machines but have a feeling that this is a design fault and Ninja technical team should come 'clean' and tell us how to clean their machines especially from a health and safety point of view.
@solve8 thanks for reaching out, and we're sorry the video didn't specify the hood maintenance. To clean the hood, it's recommended to wipe it down after each use with a damp cloth.
Thank you for reaching out! We're sorry to hear this video did not help you, and we'd like to let you know that only the splatter shield is removable from the lid. Thank you for understanding.
Why don’t you show us how to put the screen back in?! I would never buy another of these, both times we removed the screen we had a hard time putting it back.

How do I get the splattered BBQ sauce from the inside? The splatter shield does not block it from the coil housing or coils. Plain soap and water does not clean it off. I have the Ninja Foods Smart XL GRILL.
@@NinjaKitchenUS I also have the ninja foodi Smart XL Grill (6 in 1) and I have the same problem. How do you get the area around the splatter screen clean? Nothing I have used seems to work. I have no problem cleaning all accessories that come with the AG/IG300 but what I can not clean properly is the surface behind the heating element. if only I had found this months ago, when I bought my Foodie Grill/I put the splatter shield in wrong and it got all these black particles between the screens after cooking/nothing I did could remove them so, sadly I foolishly cooked without the splatter screen for many months now, almost daily. Will adding the splatter screen to boiling water in the basket remove these particles?
We are sorry to hear about this, Kat. We are happy to help you. Soaking the splatter shield overnight will help soften the baked-on grease. After soaking, use the cleaning brush to remove the grease from the stainless steel frame and front tabs. To deep clean the splatter shield, put it in a pot of water and boil it for 10 minutes. Then, rinse with room temperature water and allow to dry completely. Over time the splatter shield may discolor as grease burns onto it. This will not affect the performance of the splatter shield. If you have any other questions, please reach out to our phone support at 866-826-6941, Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. ET, Sat. 9 a.m.-6 p.m. ET.
My ninja 5 in 1 g has gotton greasy on the outside. Can I set it in my sink and scrub with hit ,soapy ,vinegar and baking soda water . Being careful not to soak the whole thing
Have you found the answer to this? Mine is now saying "add food". I read that my sensor has built up grease in the hinges. I can't seem to get it out. Several cleanings with Dawn & even oven cleaner.
I've tried to clean the splatter shield several times and even watched a video about using vinegar and baking soda and boiling water to get it looking brand new clean again. Haven't tried yet. I've tried the soaking it with dishwasher and scrubbing it but it's like the middle is still filthy. And when grilling smoke emits.
I think it's a bad design flaw. If you roast a chicken, the chicken touches it and gets food particles between the mesh. I'll try boiling water for 10 mins, bit so far I've tried everything. And dish washer. Might throw soap power in, to try and break it up. Despite her saying don't. Either that or throw away.
@@guppywibble3752 I use dawn power wash for the splatter shield. Spray it on both sides really good and let sit. Then scrub the the heck out of it with bgg the brush included. But be gentle. Seems to do ok fo me. I did after my last comments purchase 4 new ones as back ups. Once your item is paid off the warranty is invalid so if you're having problems with machine itself and still paying for it, talk to them. I have 2 of them.
I clean after every use. Always use the splatter guard, yet the housing that holds the coil still gets greasy/dirty. I noticed yours is as well, but you did not mention on how to clean that. Is there another video you have addressing how to effectively clean that?
Exactly, cleaning the pan, grill grate, and splatter guard is easy peasy, the lid with the fan/duct, NOT so much! Why wouldn't the engineer(s) design a way to disassemble the top assy and clean it properly? The fact that you want the OP to contact Ninja in a DM tells everyone, the answer is NOT what you want BROADCAST across the web for all to see...
I don't think the coils can be cleaned. We have had ours for several years, use it almost daily, so there is a lot of buildup. We will just replace the entire unit if it gets too dirty.
I got this for Christmas last year and have been using it just about every day! I love it. BUT I haven't been able to use the grill plate yet because every time I preheat it, it smells like melting plastic. Idk what to do :(

None of this explains how to clean inside the hood or around the splatter screen area. Even in this video I can still see the stains when you removed your splatter screen. Grease is also getting trapped around the band area.
Team i love the way that this product cooks my food. If I use an oil it would only be avocado oil. I am trying to eliminate all the smoke that is being generated inside my home by getting the build up grease that is spot dripping out of the vents. I've already tried wiping with dawn & vinegar. Any information that any reader can provide us greatly appreciated
After using my 5-in-1 indoor grill, I scrub the grill plate and the pan it sits in, using dishwater made with Dawn and a 3M sponge (green side). I then run them through the dishwasher with my daily dishwasher load. However, both the plate and pan have developed a rust-colored coating that looks like it's probably food or smoke build-up. It's been suggested on a FB page that the buildup could be from the canola spray I typically use before cooking most meats, but I'm not positive about that. Any suggestions on what to use to get rid of that coating?
Thank you for reaching out to Ninja Kitchen, Michael. We are sorry to know you are having difficulties cleaning your grill grate and cooking pot. We would like to assure you that this unit is an easy-to-use in all areas! For future references, please know that to clean the main unit and control panel, you can wipe them with a damp cloth. Meanwhile, the cooking pot, grill grate, crisper basket, splatter shield, cleaning brush and any other included accessories are dishwasher safe. If you would like to hand-wash; we kindly recommend using the cleaning brush to help wash the parts. Use the opposite end of the cleaning brush as a scraper to assist with releasing baked-on sauces or cheese. Then, air-dry or towel-dry all parts after hand-washing.

Great question, Alberta! When the splatter shield is installed correctly, the coil should be clean. With this said, you can wipe out the interior of the lid with a damp cloth. Be sure to unplug the machine before cleaning.

Above the spatter screen is the heating element and behind the heating element is a fan that has a framework around it that directs air towards the fan. That fan and the frame get quite dirty with grease and smoke and I have to wonder if it’s attracting insects or bacteria and I would like to be able to clean it. The heating element has a screwed down support that has two Phillips screws holding it up. I am tempted to unscrew the support and manipulate the heating element so I could access the fan blades and frame, but of course, a company would never advise a consumer to attempt this because it is potentially dangerous and damaging to the components, especially the wires that power the heating element. So, if I were to attempt this, I would unplug the machine and be extremely careful with how I manipulate anything and being mindful about not doing this unless it was completely cool and to not splash any liquids up into any electrical wires or motors. I wish there was a cleanable and detachable shield between the spatter screen and the heating element.
We're sorry to hear the fan and the frame get quite dirty with grease and smoke! Please avoid removing any screws, as this would be considered tampering, and would void your warranty. We recommend using a warm damp cloth to clean the reachable areas. You can use Dawn Power wash if you find it easier. Please avoid using abrasive cleaning products.

The cooking pot, grill grate, crisper basket, splatter shield, cleaning brush, and any other accessories can be washed in the dishwasher. Thank you for reaching out to Ninja, Kimberly! Once the splatter shield has cooled completely, remove it by pushing the upper left tab toward the back of the hood. This will release the splatter shield, allowing you to remove it. Use a warm damp cloth to carefully clean the hood. Have a lovely day!
WHY does the company say to NOT use oven cleaner on the removable screen? What does it do that the company does not like? I bought this thing to save time, not spend an hour boiling to clean. For Heaven's sake!
They tell you not to use oven cleaner on the splatter screen because it WORKS!!! When mine gets some grease build up I spray it good and let it sit on it for 15-20 minutes. Then I use the brush for the mesh and a scrubbing pad for the outer ring. Then you have to wash it good to get all the oven cleaner off it. I wash it by hand and run it through the dishwasher. It literally looks brand new afterwards!!
@@NinjaKitchenUS I feel this does not answer the question. We all need to find out from you how we can clean the top of our appliances where the filter is and where the heat source is located.
@@NinjaKitchenUS This person did not ask about the "main unit and the control panel". The question was specifically "underneath the filter (splatter screen) as well as "where the heating spiral is and around it"~ as in, the inside of the upper lid & the heating element. Why is this question not being answered? Especially considering the fact that I have seen the same issue/question/frustration all over the internet from folks who have purchased this appliance. It seems as though this would have been considered during the development/design/testing process, as it is a serious problem with the Ninja products, as well as many other air fryers & indoor grills from other manufacturers. I use a soft (blue) scrubber, not the green as this will scratch the surface. I bought the dawn power wash & spay the containers they come sparkly clean. Also use it on both side of the splatter screen & use a dish brush perfect every time.. it will have some discoloration on the screen but it's clean
I haven’t tried this on the Foodie specifically, but I had an air fryer that got like that. I used a mixture of vinegar and baking soda and a lot of scrubbing to get it looking new again. It did all come off, but it took a lot of patience as I had to scrub it for probably 20-30 minutes. It had probably a year or two of buildup at that point.

We recommend remove the splatter shield for cleaning after every use. First allow the splatter shield to cool completely, then remove it by using your thumb to release the front clip by pushing the front clip upward, and using your other hand to pull one of the tabs toward you. This will release the splatter shield, allowing you to pull it out of the slot along the back of the hood. You can then wipe behind it.

And
I wash all the removable components in the dish washer. after every use. Although there is a light staining in the fan area, it
is not really that soiled after such a long period of use.

@@NinjaKitchenUS This answer is not satisfactory to most of us.

@@chemxoxo2370 Exactly. They never seem to want to give us a direct answer to this question.
Is dawn ultra platinum ok to wash with?
That is what I have been using for one year and it works best.
@@alikaiulanimarinellizor8738 thanks for the info. Appreciate it
Some of us aren't boojie and have a dish washer
You can clean the grill accessories by hand as well! If food residue is stuck on the grill grate or crisper basket, place them in a sink filled with warm, soapy water and allow to soak.
I want someone.todo this for me on my home because i am disabled.
You did not show any cleaning in this video... ????? I got that grill and used it about five times... I could not get the lid clean and even cut myself on the sharp edges of the lid part. I put it away and have never used it. I would cook my steaks twice per day as I only eat steaks or other animal foods. Far too much work to clean that... I wasted my money on it...

Although we love our foodie, with everything he has a major flaw. Which is next not being able to clean behind the splash screen. Which makes it a producer of smoke, odor and probably fire. Why fire? Burnt fat is deposited there that cannot be removed, that is the great Achilles heel of your product. Call for that detail to consumer service and they have no solution and if someone dismantles it to clean it voids the guarantee! A pity because without solving this I have to return my Ninja. Any plan to fix this problem? a and it is very common to have problems with the thermometer that is not covered by the guarantee and being in Canada the delivery takes 3 or 4 weeks it is in US dollars and it is not sent at the convenience of the client that is to a P.O. which results in fedex throwing the package at your door and getting it stolen, instead of meeting the customer's needs they complicate it. In short, many things to fix to make it a really good product. “close but no cigar”
😡

@@NinjaKitchenUS I wish Ninja folks would recognize how often their "solution" is to tell people to call or message them for instructions on how to clean behind and around the splatter screen. This is NOT a workable option - why isn't this information included in the instructions or posted by product # on their website? This is what keeps me from recommending to others or purchasing as gifts.
Please use a better mic.
I have seen people put water and dish soap in their (different type of) unti and just running it on air fry for about 3 minutes...........
Do not Buy there stuff been on hold for over an hour after they sent me the wrong part. And it’s clearly a call center from another country.
Olive Oil doesn't really have a low smoke point, it's fine to use in an air fryer from my experience. Just a matter of if you want that olive oil taste in your final dish.

Vegetable and canola oil are 🗑️ canola oil is car engine oil
when your grill look like that, I wouldn't take any cleaning advice from you. sorry
Do you remove the grease collector to get it clean?
Great question, Peggy! The grease goes through the grill grate into the inner pot, which is removable for cleaning.
How do you clean behind the shield?
We recommend remove the splatter shield for cleaning after every use. First allow the splatter shield to cool completely, then remove it by using your thumb to release the front clip by pushing the front clip upward, and using your other hand to pull one of the tabs toward you. This will release the splatter shield, allowing you to pull it out of the slot along the back of the hood. You can then wipe behind it.
