This is a command you'll often see in competitive obedience. It's where we take our dog from the sit front position into the heel position using one word. It's not that difficult to teach, it just takes a lot of repetitions! :) I hope you guys enjoy this video and if you can, hit that subscribe button. Thanks!

"Remember this is dog training - it should be fun." THANK YOU. So many people forget this and it bums me out.
This guy is awsome. No bullshit just clear facts.
Thanks Muditha! I really appreciate that and thank you for supporting my channel! :)
Excellent video Nate! You are a natural on camera. I really appreciate your clear and concise approach im so sick of these 45 min long training videos with intros and outros and click-batey BS. Also, you’re putting good information out there to a very confused public when it comes to training and we really appreciate it. Keep up the good work.
#filmyourhospital Contagion is a myth!
Thank you! I really appreciate your kind words! :)
All true.
When I see this dog training videos I feel that you are the best dog trainer as well as best dog trainer 's trainer. Good luck. Tq
Wow, thank you! :)
He is
Right! His vids need more views for sure
Best trainer on the internet. Humans and dogs.
Thanks! :)
Have to say your channel is criminally under subbed! My 5 month lab was doing amazing at obedience until heel came along. Every week I could see her becoming more and more disengaged, barely interested in me or the food. Your method and demonstrations have been a holy grail breakthrough for me. One week with your early engagement training and she's heeling with distractions in any direction. Words can't describe how grateful I am.
Wow, thank you! That's so awesome and I'm happy the videos have been so helpful! Cheers!
damn that lab has drive. great tutorial and very nice clear work with the dog. thank you for sharing.
Thank you, Josh! 😁🙏🐶🐕
That Malinois is sharp as a tack and so engaged.
Thanks Nate this vid I will keeps watching for a number time Now...👍🏻👍🏻

I love it.
You are so cool bro.
Doing this now.
Thanks, Norman! I appreciate that and good luck! :)
Easy to learn , Excellent master💖👌
Thank you! Cheers!
Do you have a video on how to teach a dog to follow/walk when you lead with one leg and stay when leading with the other when in the heel position? If not, could you make one?
Nice
I taught my dog to heel on the right 🤦🏽♀️. Now we have to work on that mistake I made, she did pick it up pretty fast though! She isn't in any sports, she's just a pet I like working with so I wasn't sure what side was best when we first started 2 years ago 😅.
You can do either side. It really only matters if you're competing and they require the dog to be on the left side. :)
Nate I love you
if we start teaching the dog to sit in front of us like many trainers do, then switch the sit to the side into the heel position, and then how we teach the front command? without confusing the dog?
Great question. I teach the sit front as my come when called command and the sit in heel as my heel command. "come" means to come and sit in front of me. "Heel" means to come sit on my side. This can be difficult to teach, but with enough repetitions, most dogs will get it without confusion. :)
Great video what commands do You actually use for the having them go into heals positions? Thank you! Love your videos my 3 old pit and I are benefiting so much.
Thanks! I use "heel". Cheers!
Hi Nate, many thanks for this video. Can I please ask you for info for left by turns. Not flip left turn, which is explained greately. Many thanks.
Thanks, I’m going to try this. My pup struggles with associating word to certain behaviour. I was wondering how to help him with this. He has no problem with hand signals. He is my second dog but I’m pretty much novice to teaching dogs
You can do it! :)
Nate Schoemer and we did it 😁 he got the idea within one session, 3 sessions later he changes positions both to front and to heel perfectly 👌 he is 4 month old small munsterlander pup 🥰
Big fan of your work Nate 💯 Have your ever worked with Cane corso in obedience? Getting a puppy soon and I’ll be attempting your methods from the ground up 👌🤞
Awesome! Thank you! Yes, I have worked with a few Cane Corso's and they can be a lot of fun. If you have any specific questions on the breed, then I would suggest reaching out to Oscar. He's a great trainer and he's done some incredible work with his Cane Corso. ruclips.net/video/JpNhfqD7NEE/видео.html If you start right away with the basic obedience series. then it should be a smooth and rewarding journey. @@NateSchoemer Thanks Nate I’ll be sure to check him out 👌 will be helpful if I come across any problems. Appreciate the help bud 💯
At 3:36 the dog backs into heel position. Do you have a video teaching this?
If you put these videos together, you can get that from your dog: ruclips.net/video/uFlFmCghWxU/видео.html ruclips.net/video/hDRC33EW92E/видео.html ruclips.net/video/URkaeumT81U/видео.html ruclips.net/video/QqnyEJu5jtU/видео.html I hope this helps and thanks for supporting the channel! :)
how do you do this type of luring when your dog is really short and their nose isnt at hand level like your dogs?
Bend at the knees. Lol! It's not comfortable, but it works.
How do you train the sit front?
Nice job Nete what kind of treas you use?
Does she know to not sit if you're walking? I'm assuming heel has two version - the walking and the standing still version?
When would I use the flip finish vs the by finish? I’m also confused because when I say foos my dog does the flip finish, so what would I say to do the by finish?
A lot of people say "by" for the by-finish. Some people will use this if their dog performs it better than the flip finish. People also use it for the broad jump in the akc open routine because it helps prevent the dog from hitting the broad jump.
What is a common command for the flip vs the by heels ?
I know a lot of trainers that will say the heel command for the flip finish and by for the by finish. You can use whatever words you like. :) Thanks!
I can’t even remember what those different colors mean. See, I can’t even remember what colors they are
Lol!
Is that sit front position the same as the front position where he’s supposed to be tight on your body? Of this just a regular sit front position?
Forgive me for being incredibly frustrated at the moment. But I just binged half of these videos, and tried it for a minute. Am I doing something horribly wrong? 😅 he’s usually very smart and picks up new things quickly, he’s a Doberman. I’m trying to use these videos to make commands he already knows good enough for rally. When I try to do this though he doesn’t get it at all. He won’t sit when i lure him toward me, even though he’s known how to sit for 4 years especially after recall, and he won’t even come close enough to me. Even when I back up he remains a foot or two away from me. And if I say sit instead of the lure he sits like 3 feet away. Mind you I’m not saying come but Usually it’s something he does immediately yet he won’t unless I tell him to.
Is he too tall and I too short? It’s hard trying to hold the treat in the position you do over his nose because I mean, he almost comes to my chest. Not sure what I can do?
I think if you pay attention to reward placement, you can probably fix the issue. Check out this video: ruclips.net/video/m6uEwPveNXQ/видео.html
@@NateSchoemer thank you!
can you do a video on adding duration or the "implied stay"?
Yes, I've added it to my list of training videos to make. Thanks!
@@NateSchoemer np!!
How do you teach the actual flip that the dog does at 3:35? The other is like a spin from the back not actual flip from front
They naturally flip like that when they know how to get from the sit front position to the heel position. :)
What is the point to have 2 different finishes? I taught my dog the by finish when I say “heel” but I can’t get him to do the flip finish when I want him to.
Preference. Some people prefer the by-finish when they do the broad jump in AKC obedience.
So do I need to still have a sit front if my come command achieves the same position or am I good just using the come command
Hi sir I wish to talk with you one on one
