    I don’t know how I did it but I taught my rescued Pit mix, Brandy, this command game and she absolutely LOVED it!! I’d tell her GO and she’d run with all her might, then when I’d say COME she’d come racing back, always with the kinda high energy “zoomies” as they call it. But she’d come and sit at my feet, even though she looked like she was jumping out of her skin on the inside, just waiting for that next command 😂 Over & over and she never got it wrong. I wish I would have capitalized on that, she was naturally so highly food and praise motivated, she really could have been trained to do absolutely anything. Such a great dog she was, she died of lymphoma in June 2021 and we miss her terribly.

    Awesome videos! I'm binge watching them during lockdown. My question is: if I work on something such as the send away and the dog breaks the command (like Arih did) how do you normally correct it if you are not immediately there? I get that if you are close enough, you use "No" and reposition, but what if you are say 10 meters away putting a treat down? With Arih you've let that slip this time but surely if that happened more frequently, the dog might make habit of it?

    • @NateSchoemer
      @NateSchoemer  3 года назад +1

      I would us the conditioned correction and reinforce the commanded position. You can see it in this video: ruclips.net/video/s5iD8eN89bo/видео.html

    Hi Nate, in what way does this differ from fetch and return? I tried this 'run' command with my dog in the garden and I felt confused about using the 'run' command when I felt like it was similar to 'fetch-it'. However, I haven't tried this in the field yet so perhaps the realisation will become apparent when I practice it on a bigger scale. Thanks for your help. I think your videos are superb! Your teaching has really helped me with my dog.

    I'm not sure how you transition between sending the dog to the food or ball, which does not require any direction since the dog knows where you placed the food so he doesn't even look at your hand, into actually following the direction of our hand so that dog runs into the direction that our hand points to.

    Hi Nate, I notice you're using the 'yes' command (your continuation marker?) when Percy gets the food on the bowl. Can you explain why? Slightly confused because the action is terminated, so I'd have thought the 'free' (your terminal marker?) would have been more appropriate? Or nothing at all since the primary reward is the food...
    BTW I am loving the videos. Used to have a dog, and about to get another after a few tough years. You're showing so many of the tricks, tips, and trainings that I need!

    • @NateSchoemer
      @NateSchoemer  4 года назад +2

      Thanks! Just think of what the word predicts. Continuation marker only predicts a reward, while the terminal marker predicts a release and reward. If our dogs are not in a commanded position and we use the continuation marker, it doesn't make it a stay command. Once the dog gets to the reward in the send out, the behavior is completed, unless you then give your dog a sit or down command. You don't have to mark, since they are getting the primary when the behavior is completed. However, some like to mark for this exercise, but it's not 100% necessary. Cheers!

    • @NateSchoemer
      @NateSchoemer  2 года назад

      This exercise, with a strong sit or down command. I usually don't ask my dog to sit or down when I'm training this though, since it can cause them to slow down. It's best to add the sit or down very sparingly, so they don't anticipate it when you do the send-out. If you watch a bunch of IGP (also known as IPO and Schutszhund ) competitions, you'll see what I mean.

    Hi Nate
    I am your follower. I am working on my 4 y/o Doberman this command. When I make her sit waiting for my command "run" she is looking at me not the food or object I am aiming to and I can not find a way to make her look at the target. How to manage that? However she still runs to the food after my command.

    • @NateSchoemer
      @NateSchoemer  3 года назад

      First I would try starting closer again to the target. If that doesn't work you can have someone stand next to the target to make some noise until she looks in the direction of the target. The moment she looks in the right direction then send her. This should teach her that she needs to look at the target in order to go to it. :)

    • @katesherrry2835
      @katesherrry2835 2 года назад

      I believe it's a fairly standard command for obedience competitions. More usefully, it's a hunting command (if you want your dog to chase animals out of a certain area), a herding command (go around the flock that way), and a good way to get in the day's exercise if you have something ridiculously energetic, like, say, a Belgian Malinois.
      I'm interested in it because I want to teach my dog to go away and stay away when I'm working with something that doesn't like dogs. Honeybees, for instance, are a lot more likely to sting when they smell a dog.
