  • Come along with Jeff and I as we explore the historic, crazy, and hilarious Congress Plaza hotel in Chicago. I absolutely loved this property. Some parts were beautiful and historic, and some looked straight out of an 80's motel. Plus each set of elevators was lots of fun in its own way. This was one of my favorite experiences filming elevators in a long time.

1:10 Jacob: The classical music and the way this cab looks flashing in the most hilarious way I’ve ever seen🤣
    Later..
Jeff: I can still hear the classical music in the elevator

The Fulton Steamboat Inn in Lancaster Pennsylvania had music in the Dover Impulse, but the cab was beautiful!

you should have gotten of on the 12th floor one of the "paranormal" hot spots of the hotel. There is a room on the 12th floor that is supposed to to be so haunted that it is padlocked.

This hotel looks like it was designed by a nut case and I freaking love it

I wonder if the classical music had anything to do with the fact that the CSO is basically only a few doors down from this place...

I think they wanted to heighten the suspense of the fast-moving elevator so they added the classical music! If you love this hotel, you should check out The Palmer House. It's similar.

I haven't been to Chicago in a while (and downtown Chicago even longer) but the last time I was there, I loved the elevators! I'm not real knowledgeable about elevators so I'm not familiar with the different kinds.

I can tell that whoever is managing this hotel either does not pay very much attention to detail (outside of the lobby at least, first impressions I guess) or they do not know what they are doing. Is this one whole building or is the part with the Westinghouse elevator separate? Considering that it doesn't appear that you can access any other elevators from the hallway with the Westinghouse elevator, the double digit floor numbering may be a clever way of distinguishing 6 from the part that goes up to 14, from the 6 in this part. If I stayed at this hotel though, I know I would get up really early in the morning/late at night and explore that basement, it looks kick ass.

The part with the Westy is connected, but appears to have been tacked on in the 1960s. Whenever I'm in Chicago next, I'm going to try to stay here. Would love to review a room and explore some more :)

I stayed here some 6 years ago and glad to see it's not changed, the double double room I staying in was beautiful and massive, very clean too. The Otii are total rockets, would love to go back

I used to be a night auditor at this location. This property was not kept up over the years. It's owned by some guy in New York. There was a decade strike that went on because of how poorly they treated their employees. They often violated employee rights. But, a historic building that has so much potential.

I saw an escalator near the beginning of the video. Is it a Westy? The touch sensitive OTIS are really nice. That Westy with the double digit floor numbering could make people confused.

I was going to stay there last month. But I changed my mind. I hear that this hotel was filthy and dirty. And I stayed at the Quality Inn in Schiller Park instead.
