There is also an English Singer who made her name in the early 60’s at just 14 years old called Helen Shapiro. Her first hit was ‘Don’t Treat Me Like A Child’ then she had hits like ‘You Don’t Know’ and Walking Back To Happiness’ Her voice was so mature.
Another diminutive singer with a big, big voice from the '50s and '60s is Brenda Lee. Check out "I'm Sorry," "I Wanna Be Wanted," and "All Alone Am I."
Love All Alone Am I.
@@pjg58x, Brenda has always been a favorite of mine.
Yes, Brenda Lee came to mind foe me, too. Y'all have to listen yo her "Fool No. 1." I grew up listening to Brenda Lee.
And....Break it to Me Gently.....is also very good. Actually she can sing anything.
Timi Yuro was a huge hit when I was in High School and I took her album with me to Vietnam :)
Thank you for your service, LittleWolf194!
I loved Timi Yuro's music since I was about 8-10 years old (I was Born in 1953) and her voice simply mesmorized me even as a young kid/teenager and she had some 'wonderful music' and I truly do hope you DO check out more of her music here on your channel because there is much more! ❤
I absolutely loved Timi Yuro. Would listen to her all the time. Glad y'all got to hear her voice. Y'all must listen to Brenda Lee sing "All Alone Am I".
Yes indeed, and so many others. I love : Send Me Some Lovin' ". What a voice
She was my very favorite singer!
Saw Timi Yuro and Hurt and had to listen again. You can't imagine how big this was over the radio.
Absolutely beautiful. I had never heard of Timm Yuro til now. Thank you.
Another singer of this genre is DINAH WASHINGTON, who performed between 1941 and 1963. For a time, she was called the Queen of the Blues.
Listening to this song all I can think of slow dancing! Thank God for memories❤
Glad you checked out Timi Yuro! She was on my 'someday I'm going to request this list’ ☺️. I heard this song last week when I was visiting my parents. Take a listen to the studio version because you missed some of the first notes. She was one of the first blue-eyed souls singers. Her song “What’s a Matter Baby” was covered by other artists. Where I live, Ellen Foley had a hit with it. You heard Ellen Foley before on the song Paradise By The Dashboard Light together with Meat Loaf. (It was Karla DeVito who featured in the music video).
It will never be over for me is fantastic from Timi
This was a pleasant surprise. One of my favorite singers from the past with a very beautiful, powerful, recognizable voice.
Wow, never heard of her at all. Such a diverse but powerful voice inside of such a tiny woman. I definitely need to hear more of her.
Check out "I apologize" "Make the world go away" "As long as there is you"
So glad you finally got to Timi! Your reactions are perfect and right on target. Isn't she great?! You must give a listen to Timi's "What's a Matter, Baby?", one of the best revenge songs of all time! Keep up the great reactions!
She was a phenomenal singer. Remember this song 🎵 such emotion is correct. She had a handful of great hits.
She was amazing! Her other hits were "Make the World go away" "What's the matter baby" "Aint gonna cry no more" Ver underated singer. You should here her sing Italian songs. Such an amazing voice with such feeling. I love her
She was what we used to call a Torch Singer…..but I age myself
I'd like to see you react to Timi Yuro's - What’s A Matter Baby (Is It Hurtin' You) where she really shows her vocal power!
Timi's covers of "Make the world go away"' "My prayer", and so many more. An amazing vocalist.
I'm so happy to see you react to the great Timi Yuro. I haven't found anyone else reacting to her songs. Please check out What's A Matter Baby and Only Love Me from her. Wonderful singer.
This was from another time. So much soul. Etta James, At Last, its time. Thank you Gor the smile.
It's funny to learn about a singer you never heard of or knew about from this time, and to be so impressed!
What a voice !! I remember when it first came out. Yes, I'm 75 yrs. young. Still a great song and a great reaction. Keep it up !!
My mom used to wear out Timi's music back in the 60's, yes, in the age of 45's and lp's. This sounded like it is one of those 45's she played of Timi Yuro. Give a listen to " Make The World Go Away", you will really hear the power of her voice. RIP Mom and Ms. Timi Yuro.
Her best performance and most beautiful song is MY FOOLISH HEART. Outstanding!!! Give a listen. You will not be disappointed.
To me her tone reminds me of a Tammy Wynette - Patsy Cline mash up! Gorgeous tone .. and she even has a hint of yodel and break in her style much like Patsy to me as well. This lady is fantastic.. and new to me.. even though I thought I had heard all of the greats from this era! She's wonderful!!! 🌻
Check out her massive Northern soul hit over here in the UK "itll never be over for me", a true gut wrenching soulful sound, absolute banger, Keep the faith all
My mum was a big Timi fan so we grew up with her albums. She was huge in London's East End. The Cockney's loved big belters.
I love this song. Timi did not get the accolades she deserved. Elvis did a version of this. Keep up the good work.
I have two original vinyl albums from the 60’s by Timi Yuro. Fantastic singer. What’s a matter baby is my favorite.
Wow. First time hearing this song. Incredible.
Elvis was a big fan and often was in the audience when she appeared in Las Vegas. He also recorded this song. I love her recording of "Smile", a song written by Charlie Chaplin.
Thank you for this. What a fantastic voice. And congratulations for breaking 400, 000 followers.
Guys, you are great, I enjoy your reactions soo much❤😊 May I suggest to check out Edith Piaf - she was an iconic French singer, she had such a powerful and beautiful voice. Her most famous song is "non rien de rien"
Told you about Time Yuro several months ago. She is one of those outstanding voices which is entirely unique. Glad you like her.
I haven't heard that song in forever. Thank you for playing it.
Suggestions: Aretha Franklin. "A Natural Woman". Kennedy Center Honors Carole King. Carole wrote this and Aretha had a big hit with it
This live video honoring Carole was held during the Obama Administration.
Connie Francis: "Who's Sorry Now", "Al Di La, "Where The Boys Are" (official video). "Don't Break the Heart That Loves You"
Brenda Lee: "All Alone Am I", " The End of the World", "Jambalia" ( video)
Judy Garland: "The Man Who Got Away", (video) "Happy Days/Get Happy"...a Duet with Barbra Streisand (live on Judy Garland Show), "Old Man River" ( live from her show)
The song "I'm Losing You" is another good one by Brenda Lee!
This brought me WAY back Such a unique voice. I remember hearing this on the radio.
I didn’t recognize the name, but that voice sounds very familiar, and comforting.
When I think of range of a female voice, the first name that comes to mind is, Yma Sumac. She was popular during my parents generation. They said she had an eight octave range, but no one knew her true age or where she was from. I can’t say I like her music. It often used words that aren’t part of any language, more like scatting. And the songs seem designed just to show off her vocal talent which ranged from a manly bass to high chirps.
My first time hearing her thanks. She is classy.
Alright my babies.... I'm only like 7 seconds into this song and this vibrato is soooo off the chain ‼️💯%🔥
I am of her generation, and I've got 3 or 4 45 RPM records...Such a power house in....If you wish to be blown away, check out her 1962 hit "What's A Matter Baby [Is It Hurting You]". Just pure soul from the bottom of her feet to the top of her head.
Timi, an Italian American, is considered to be one of the first blue-eyed soul singers of the rock era. Great, husky voice.
Today is Grace Jones 75th Birthday 🎂🎁🎈🎊
Timi's 'It'll Never Be Over For Me' is absolutely essential
Aww! Feel better Jay
So glad you discovered this amazing singer, she also had a hit with "What's the matter baby" and the only true to the original version of Little Willie John's classic "Fever".
Thanks for giving a listen to Timi Yuro! She was very popular in the early '60s, but today is nearly forgotten. She was, indeed, a tiny woman with a HUGE voice. Her other major hit was "What's a-Matter Baby." She also did a tune with a more modernish arrangement called "It'll Never Be Over For Me." It was not a big hit in the U.S., but was more popular over in the U.K. For another great early '60s soul tune by a terrific female artist, check out "I Had a Talk With My Man Last Night" by Mitty Collier. Very soulful hit in a gospel style.
A lady in this same genre is Connie Francis. "Where the Boys Are" is my favorite. Also Vikki Carr is terrific
Finally, I've been waiting for this one. Thank you! :)
Never heard of this woman, incredible vocalist. Wow
Love Timi
My parents like this one. A golden oldie.
"The Manhattans" and Elvis Presley are just two of MANY that have recorded this song. My personal favorite is Elvis' version. It's so POWERFUL!!!
Happy (belated) Mother's Day, Amber! And Jay, Fathers Day! If I can't take any time.
WE LOVE YOU GUYS!!!
Our BEST to the family...😊😊😊
I wish they would do The Manhattans song "Kiss And Say Goodbye". I've suggested it a couple of times to no avail.
Jay is sooo Freakin' smart......Amy Winehouse loved this singer and so do Billie Ellish....because of her hold ig notes and soulful intimate delivery...and Jay knows who was an influence on Amy Winehouse's style....sooooo great great about hearing the similarities of today artists in connection with the old school artist. Great observation Jay......and Amber great selection and observation and reactions to this artist!!!!
Voice like a singing saxaphone, just beautiful.
I’m just blown away at the power of her voice, gives me chills💞
Thanks for bringing back old memories growing up.
What a fantastic song!
"Hurt" is a 1954 song by Jimmie Crane and Al Jacobs. "Hurt" was originally performed by Roy Hamilton, whose version peaked at number eight on the R&B Best Seller chart and spent a total of seven weeks on the chart. A version by Ricky Denell also received considerable radio airplay in 1954 on pop radio stations. The song is considered to be the signature hit of Timi Yuro, whose version went to number four on the Billboard pop chart in 1961. Juice Newton's 1985 version scored number one on Billboard's Country chart.
(Wikipedia)
Elvis and Frank Sinatra were fans of Timi Yuro. Elvis covered her version of "Hurt"! I don't know if you can find a live version of "What's A Matter Baby" but the studio version is great too!
Wow! I am so amazed. I thought I was pretty knowledgeable and pop soul blues musicology, but I’ve never heard of this Vocalist before. I’m gonna do some more research. You could just feel every note she was singing. I learned something new today and I’m 60 years old.
Wow! I forgot about this song. This was our definitive preteen angst song.😢
Touching song. Rest in peace Timi Yuro and may the earth be light to you. Indeed, we are dust, nothing but dust; Besides, is it not written the following: "as in the womb of my mother I remained for about 9 months, as in the womb of the earth, I will remain forever one day". Rest in peace Timi; That's all I can say. Amen
I love a lot of the female singers from that time, I was watching a good movie 2 days ago called "Biloxi Blues" it's a Neil Simon's comedy about boot camp during WWII and it had a song in it that I loved called "How High the Moon by Pat Suzuki" and she had a great voice
She has a greatest hits album.
If you have a chance to get it, GET IT
What a voice!!!
You need to checkout Brenda Lee singing 'Break it to Me Gently' and 'So Sorry' You will wonder why she has not been recommended before. Her nick name was 'Little Miss Dynomite'. You'll love her.
Never heard of her , nor the song but, Wow!
Never heard this. WHAT A VOICE!!!1
Wow! There are moments when she sounds a little like Ella! I’ve never heard of her before so Thank you 🙏🏻! Wow!
Timi Yuro's debut Billboard Hot 100 single & her biggest hit "Hurt" was a cover of a Roy Hamilton R&B hit from 1955. Timi Yuro's version peaked @ #4 in 1961. She charted 10 more singles between 1961 - 1965. Carly Simon did a real nice version of "Hurt" on her 1981 LP of standards/torch songs titled "Torch."
This song is a staple in the Chicano community....always heard it being played by my parents when growing up, and my kids(and now grandkids) are very familiar with this song now too.
It's not very often y'all put one up, that I've never heard of. Nicely-done!
"While Vaughan never gained the public renown of fellow performers such as Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holliday, she is generally considered to have one of the greatest voices in the business and is credited with being a major force behind the popularity of “bop” music. Some of her biggest hits include such classics as “Misty,” “My Funny Valentine,” and “Tenderly.” Her determination and ability to fit in (despite her natural shyness) with the mostly male-dominated world of jazz music earned her the moniker “Sassy.” Her flawless voice earned her the title “the Divine One;” but it was the breadth of her impact on the world of jazz and music in general that earned her multiple Grammy’s, including the 1989 Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as a place in the Jazz Hall of Fame."
My dad loved Sarah and I never knew why until I heard "Sarah Vaughan - Misty (Live from Sweden) Mercury Records 1964". I think it would be perfect for you two to react to Sarah Vaughan - Misty (Live from Sweden) Mercury Records 1964 on a female Friday. I hope you can get to it. ruclips.net/video/lJXLqAutql4/видео.html
Learned about a singer unfamiliar to me. She was wonderful. Thank you for playing this tonight.
Love Timi. This song by her inspired Richard O'Brien to write the Rocky Horror Show. Others of hers I love: Make The World Go away, Ain't Gonna Cry No More, If I Never Get To love You, As Long As There Is You. And Many more. She was also one of Elvis's favourite singers.
I have never heard of her before this reaction and never heard that song before. I enjoyed it so much. Thank you guys for the introduction 😊
Never heard this version or of Timi, but have always loved this song which was a huge hit for The Manhattans in 1976,it was beautiful though.
"The Big Hurt" , 1959, by Toni Fisher, is a cool song. I first heard it when I was 3. I was intrigued by the sound of the music and I still will listen to it occasionally. I think it was a bit ahead of it's time.
Timi Yuro!!! I love her music definitely check out "I apologize" "Make the world go away" and "As long as there is you"
I hadn't heard about her in a while and was so sad to hear she passed in 2004 from throat cancer "that stole her voice many years" prior to her death. How awful. She was so talented.
Corsets were way way before this time. We wore “girdles” . Some had tiny suspender like hooks so you could attach your ‘hose’ or stockings.
Wow 😲 what a beautiful voice listen to Carly Simon she can sing hurt like that too 😭 this song resonates with me I was hurt by someone who I loved so much he broke my heart thank you amber and Jay for sharing this video.
Cinema Saturday will be fine!! Thanks for letting us know!!
Feel better soon Jay!!
I never heard of her before but My GOD! She can SING!!
Next do her “What’s a Matter Baby” Such a great, big voice.
Yes!
But make sure it’s the original and not the re-recorded version. They’re vastly different. The original is the one you want.
@@TAGautreau Agree
Timi Yuro would have Elvis Presley in her audience, he loved her singing and later in 1970 recorded this song which you would enjoy reacting too as well!!
Golden oldie!
You may also like Gayle Garnett, she sang "We'll sing in the Sunshine" with won a grammy award in 1964
"Love Letters" by Ketty Lester, released in 1961.
My good word.
A one in a million voice.
The Manhattans had a hit with a good cover version of ‘Hurt ‘in U.K. circa early 1970 ‘s . I have a track on a Stateside compilation CD by Timi Yuro ,titled ‘ It will never be over for me ‘ here in the U.K. Both recordings well worth a listen .👍
The best of the best with dorothy moore, roberta flack, betty swan. Hi from Paraguay, south america
This has been one of my all time favourite songs from the 60's sung by a blue eyed soul singer. I always thought she was a black singer and was surprised when I first saw her. Fabulous voice.
Amazing voice great choice
Hi guys the video clip is of Timi in Australia she was on tour with Frank Sinatra he ask to tour with him. Here in the uk Europe she still is big ❤
Love your shirt Jay!
Classic ! thanks Amber
Such a great voice, wow oh wow
Back when emotions and delivery were raw singing a song from the heart. Such a great singer. Patreon Movie Suggestions: Robocop and Predator, both from 1987.
That's such a great song but now you've GOT to hear Elvis sing it. His voice & passion are so powerful, he just rips your heart out & hands it to you..with love, of course. Hope you do it!
💙💫💙💫💙💫💙💫💙💫💙
Agree, I actually didn't know of this version, I only heard Elvis (since my mom was V.P. of an Elvis fan club). I guarantee you'll be amazed.
Marty Robbins did a great version of "Hurt" on an album. Puts tears in my eyes!
I’ve always loved the version by the Manhattans
What's A Matter Baby is so good! Recommend that one from her next!
