Her passing was such a sad day for both myself and the World of Music as a whole because she was always Pitch and Tone Perfect and had such a marvellously pure singing voice that hardly has comparables! There are still, to this day, very few who have such purity of voice and who can hold such beautiful harmonies, even with male singers as she proved in The Seekers, yet she was still so very easy to listen to, even in her later 70's when normally the voice deteriorates the older the person gets! She was still pure of voice almost to the very end as she proved during the Golden Reunion Tour that The Seekers put on where they played to their original fans alongside their children and even their grandchildren, thus they often played to 3 generations of families and fans, both old and new, some of whom were like myself, the middle generation, having been brought up on their music. I was never able to get to see them live but gladly purchased the albums released as a spin off of these concerts! Sadly Judith was showing her age at that point as she was struggling with medical issues often faced by people of her age, but for her it was a severe lung condition that she contracted when just 4 years of age after contracting measles, yet this lung condition would plague her throughout her whole life and it would be that which would ultimately cause her death, however she always battled it as her determination to succeed in the music industry was so strong. She had always told her parents and sister that she would be a famous singer one day and would sing on the biggest stages all around the world and she had been saying that from a very early age, so when at 19 years of age she told her parents about an opportunity for her to sing with 'the lads' in Britain for a month, they agreed that she could go. In 2067 the band was jointly honored as Australians of the Year (the only joint winners of that award). They actually knocked both the Beatles and The Rolling Stones off the number 1 position on the UK charts. Georgie Girl should probably be your next song from them.
The vid is actually a fake. Created as a promo back in the 1960s, the audio is from the finished record, which MAY have had editing on it. It would be common to lay down instrument and vocal tracks separately (otherwise the vocal mike could pick up instruments in the room), EMI were a bit slow mostly working with two track but might have moved to four track recording by the time of this release. Of course in live performance The Seekers nailed it every time.

Judith Durham had perfect pitch, and that's what stands out for me in this song. It's her vocal power, tonal clarity, and dead-on pitch that makes her and the Seekers instantly identifiable as artists. You hear it in Georgy Girl too. I agree with those who say she was one of the best pop singers of the last century.
@Denise Berman Totally agree! A lot is about Drugs, gang culture, violence, prostitution and treating women as possessions or objects. It's not music anymore. Even when it sounds half decent it's been enhanced somewhat
There was a folk music revival in the early to mid 60's which became political with antiwar "protest songs" by such as Phil Ochs and of course Bob Dylan. Dylan famously hybridized folk with rock with The Band as his backup. Other folk/rock bands followed, most notably The Byrds. The Seekers were more straight folk or folk/pop. This tune got a lot of airplay along with Georgie Girl. Judith Durham had a gorgeous voice. And so pretty
I find that classically trained vocalists appear to sing in a dinstinct way which removes their unique sound, this is not the case with Durham, she sounds so natural and unconstrained.
Probably why people love 60's music so much is because it WAS a time when we were all trying to spread love, peace and harmony, something seriously lacking today, sadly.
The Seekers, an Australian group that to my mind never got the recognition they deserved, apart from their own country where they were deservedly idolised. Judith Durham had one of the finest voices ever to be heard, anywhere. You should give a listen to some of their other songs, especially, "Georgie Girl" and my favourite, "The Carnival is Over" Thank you for featuring this group and this song, it brought back many memories and a few tears, x
I’m so glad you liked this. I bought this record when I was really young and Judith Durham, the girl singing, died yesterday aged 79. By the way, the session you were watching was filmed at Abbey Road Studios, where The Beatles recorded all their hits! For a time, I actually lived around the corner from these studios.
In an interview, Judith said the Beatles were recording downstairs at night, and the Seekers were recording upstairs during the day (or maybe vice versa). Can you imagine being the studio scheduler, penciling in these two iconic groups for sessions on the same day? Goosebumps!
@@omnipop4936 “…Judith said the Beatles were recording downstairs at night, and the Seekers were recording upstairs during the day…” In an interview that I heard [ABC News In-depth] Judith said that the Beatles recorded in the downstairs studio and the Seekers recorded that session of “I’ll Never Find Another You” in that downstairs studio also, so it seems more likely that the Beatles used that studio at night and the Seekers used it during the day.
This film was from a 1968 recreation of the original recording session as part of a very high rating Australian TV special. The credits of the special say filmed in Sydney and Melbourne. RIP Judy. This song was one of the first I heard after leaving the military after two tours in Asia. It took forty years to find that "you". The last 20 years I could finally find rest. I'm 81. This song still grabs my heart.
I love this 60s classic. What I have really loved about this song, is the beautifully balanced lyrical, instrumental and vocally synchronous quality of the song. From the opening, beautifully blended, guitar/base guitar combo and background baseline vocals that segway into Judith's mid range masterful voice (riding just an octave and a half above the baseline vocals) and throughout the song, it is pure magic. (FTR, I am a retired semi professional music critic, who used to write for a small Boston, Massachusetts newspaper in the early mid 1980s).
"Georgy Girl" must be their biggest hit--and there's a great live performance video of them--and this song, of course, is beautiful. Her voice was heavenly--small person and a glorious voice. The 60s folk music era and what came out of it was just stunning in its simplicity and beauty.
The Seekers had four hits that sold well over a million records each, which was quite something in those days .... Georgy Girl, i'll never find another you, The Carnival is over, and A world of our own all sold well over a million each.
Definitely "Georgy Girl" which was the title song from a popular British film of that year. Great film, great song - both capture the essence of London in the Swinging Sixties.
Always loved the Seekers and regularly perform "Another You." You correctly point out the talent that existed before studios could digitally tweak out mistakes and problems
The instrumentation and lyrics are terrific, these are good feeling songs. So tired of angry, negative songs, not saying those aren’t good but I’d rather hear “Happy!” Being a music performance person listening to the past, Classical, Bluegrass, Blues, Soul, Salsa, Doo Wop, Rock, the British Invasion, all indigenous music, etc. is such an education. Such great music on the planet, I love music from everywhere, from every era. It all moves me. Was so sad to hear Judith died this past Friday. Spent the whole day listening to her amazing musical range. Thank you Judith for such great music.🌹
The Seekers! They set a counterpoint for the rock and roll of the mid-60's with throw back folk music and held their own on the charts with the greatest era of rock-n-roll. Unforgettable.
Ok, I may be really late to this party but I love the Seekers. This was back in the day when you might here anything on the AM radio, and folk bands the like of Peter Paul & Mary, the Association and of course the Seekers could be heard. Wonderful music, you should play Georgy girl.
A very beautiful song that the Seekers performed Rob & Amber was called”The Carnival Is Over, & another one is called “Morningtown Ride”. I don’t know if you heard but sadly Judith Durham passed away from the and recently. R.I.P.Judith, you were much much loved
Hey, great to see you react to the Seekers. Definitely a national treasure here in Australia. They had lots of great songs but two standouts for me are 'The Carnival is Over' and 'i am Australian'. Both great songs. Cheers!
That song put me back as a kid riding in the car with my mom. Brought me to tears. Mom’s been gone for 34 years. Miss her so much. I just loved hearing that song.
I just heard Judith Durham of the Seekers has died aged 79 RIP. This is one of my Fave songs from back in the 60's, it was a great era to live through with all the great songs. I love that you loved it too.
You would be amazed to find out how many amazing songs they sing absolutely amazing that woman has a voice like no other when you really hear some more of the songs dive in deep to The Seekers and you'll see you will be amazed
I remember this song as a kid in the 60's...Judith's voice just absolutely mesmerized me, and was so unique ....the song still makes me smile exactly the same as it did!
Another wonderful female performer that has recently passed away. She had such a unique voice. Their music was memorable. Smiling to see you wearing a Bee Gees shirt.
I'm a sixties teenager in England. The Seekers were a great group and Judith's voice is beautiful. Such a shame they disbanded at the height of their fame. Apparently Judith wanted to leave and she was what made the Seekers really.
I grew up with the Seekers in Australia. The Bee Gees wrote "Massachusettes" for them, but too late, because the group went apart. But the Seekers covered the Song in 2002! Greetings from Germany, where we are heading for a very hard winter.
Since you asked, here are some really good 50s and 60s songs: "Blue Suede Shoes" by Carl Perkins (1956), "Searchin' " by The Coasters (1957), "Sweet Little Sixteen" by Chuck Berry (1958), "Kansas City" by Wilbert Harrison (1959), "Til I Kissed You" by The Everly Brothers (1959), "Hushabye" by The Mystics (1959), "Chain Gang" by Sam Cooke (1960), "Runaway" by Del Shannon (1960), "Raindrops" by Dee Clark (1960), "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" by The Shirelles (1961), "Travelin' Man" by Ricky Nelson (1961), "Calendar Girl" by Neil Sedaka (1961), "The Loco-Motion" by Little Eva (1962), "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do" by Neil Sedaka (1962), "Twistin' the Night Away" by Sam Cooke (1962), "The Wah Watusi" by The Orlons (1962), "Sealed With a Kiss" by Brian Hyland (1962) "He's a Rebel" by The Crystals (1962) "I Count the Tears" by The Drifters (1962) "This Magic Moment" by The Drifers (1960) "Up on the Roof" by The Drifters (1962) "Baby It's You" by The Shirelles (1961) "Little Deuce Coupe" by The Beach Boys (1963) Not one of these will disappoint you.

The Seekers didn’t rely on synthetic sounds added in the studio…they were the real deal and had a lot of great songs. Sadly the world just lost Judith Durham on August 5th. She had a beautiful voice and a beautiful spirit.
My lovely wife's all-time favourite group. When she joined me on-station in W Germany in 1971 she brought her guitar with her and serenaded me with with it driving back to our married quarter from the airport!

Awww, nice!!! The little Aussie folk band that was our first big international success. Judith is pretty much a national treasure here. They had a massively successful 50th anniversary album and tour and still sounded freaking fantastic all those years later. Try more like: Georgie Girl, Calling Me Home, Shores of Avalon, The Carnival is Over, Speak to the Sky, etc, etc.
What about "I am Australian!", Also I remember The Carnival is Over when it came out and still brings tears to my eyes due to what happened at that time in my own life.
Another group which you have covered is Peter, Paul and Mary. Excellent harmonies. Their song "Where have all the flowers gone" will bring tears to your eyes. Lovely and timeless.
Judith went up and down in range seamlessly but kept the power and pitch always in check which is the work of a real virtuoso. Her vibrato is heavingly as well throughout her ranges. I would have thought since she had an Australian accent it might become apparent when she sang down range towards speech level but it appears this iconic Lady could sing really low notes as well as high notes. Now I understand why the Gibbs wrote the song massachusetts and wanted the Seekers to sing it only to miss the opportunity when their agent turned it down. It was fitting when they got cover it in 2012 I think and even though approaching seventy, she nailed it.

The Seekers! They set a counterpoint for the rock and roll of the mid-60's with throw back folk music and held their own on the charts with the greatest era of rock-n-roll. Unforgettable.
That song is sacred to me…..love is forever.
Ok, I may be really late to this party but I love the Seekers. This was back in the day when you might here anything on the AM radio, and folk bands the like of Peter Paul & Mary, the Association and of course the Seekers could be heard. Wonderful music, you should play Georgy girl.
Classic, never gets old just better. RIP Judith.
One of my favorites and I'm an old, lifetime lover of music.
Cheers!
This song SCREAMS The Sixties. The start of the Seekers Story. Magical ❤
That song put me back as a kid riding in the car with my mom. Brought me to tears. Mom’s been gone for 34 years. Miss her so much. I just loved hearing that song.
We played this beautiful song for my dad’s funeral when his coffin was leaving the church. He loved The Seekers.
I just heard Judith Durham of the Seekers has died aged 79 RIP. This is one of my Fave songs from back in the 60's, it was a great era to live through with all the great songs. I love that you loved it too.
Jusdith was 21 when this video was made. She's still singing that song now.
This song is one of the prettiest songs written during the 60’s.
Thank you. Again, you nailed it.
This is the song my wife and I chose as our song. 44 years. Bless the whole family❤
The beautiful and wonderful Judith Durham has sadly died! Rip the most amazing singer ever we will never find another you!
You would be amazed to find out how many amazing songs they sing absolutely amazing that woman has a voice like no other when you really hear some more of the songs dive in deep to The Seekers and you'll see you will be amazed
The incomparable Judith Durham. No voice like hers. Powerful and pure. A heavenly sound that can only come from Judith.
Magnetic tape. And commitment. They sing and play like they believe in every note.
I remember this song as a kid in the 60's...Judith's voice just absolutely mesmerized me, and was so unique ....the song still makes me smile exactly the same as it did!
IM 68 YEARS OLD....DYING OF COPD...I WILL SEE YOU SOOM
Seekers are a rabbit hole of huge depth......all kinds of cool songs
I'd strongly second "Georgy Girl" as your next Seekers song-it was good enough to get my attention as a seven-year-old. I'm in my 60's now.😂
Aww, Georgy Girl reminds me back when I was 4 or 5
Love Georgie girl. I believe that's from a movie.
Yep. Same here. I was six when this song was released and it's always impressed me. 👌
Georgie Girl was my favourite song when I was about 5 years old. I'm on the cusp of 61 now!
Yes, Georgy Girl starring Lynne Redgrave and James Mason, I believe
we lost Judith Durham 06/08/2022 phenomenal voice graceful lady R.I.P Judith Durham
Another wonderful female performer that has recently passed away. She had such a unique voice. Their music was memorable. Smiling to see you wearing a Bee Gees shirt.
So glad you liked it. In my life ….this is one of the songs, deeply felt. And remembered.
Judith was otherworldly in her vocals
They were very popular at the time too. This song actually knocked the Beatles off the number one spot on the British charts.
I'm a sixties teenager in England. The Seekers were a great group and Judith's voice is beautiful. Such a shame they disbanded at the height of their fame. Apparently Judith wanted to leave and she was what made the Seekers really.
Their subsequent reunion concerts are awesome.
Real music made without autotune, tricks, and fakery. Just talent.
I love this song, although during a difficult time in my life, I’d break into tears when I heard it. Now, I appreciate the beauty and sentiment. ❤️
I grew up with the Seekers in Australia. The Bee Gees wrote "Massachusettes" for them, but too late, because the group went apart. But the Seekers covered the Song in 2002! Greetings from Germany, where we are heading for a very hard winter.

Melbourne Australia's gift to the world.
That girl could flat out sing !
I am from 60’s even though always classic country. But seekers was amazing group. Back then no facing digital equipment as today. I recommend another of there’s is George Girl concert in Australia in front of several 100,000 people. Judith in green dress, you will be amazed . RIP Judith will music voice
Discovered this band when I was 10, and was instantly mesmerized with the harmony, and musicianship, 1979.
And, Judith's voice, 😳, and she is 🔥.
I cry every time I hear this song.
The Seekers were a talented Band,Judith had a sweet lovely voice,I had I'll never find another you played at my late Husbands funeral. Just beautiful.R.I.P Judith.🙏🕊xx.
She had such a great vibrato! Rest in peace, Judith.
The Seekers’ best song is Georgie Girl. This song epitomizes what the 60’s were all about. It’s a vibe that you can’t miss.
I have a special reason to love that one. My Dad bought it for my Mum because her name was Georgie.
true that...they also did a nice cover of "Turn Turn Turn".
I don't know much about the Seekers, but I know that song. Love it!
Their biggest hit in the United States
Our high school band played Georgie girl in the early 70's, loved it! Peace from Michigan!
This song is totally underrated. Thank you so much for sharing the beauty of the seekers with us
Awww, nice!!!
Was this from before, or just after Skippy?
Wow I didn't know they were Aussies! Thanks for the info. I love Georgie Girl.
What about "I am Australian!", Also I remember The Carnival is Over when it came out and still brings tears to my eyes due to what happened at that time in my own life.
Another amazing 60s group, beautiful sound. You just can't beat real talent. No gimmics no overdubbing just plain talent. No autotune shit.
One of the rare singers who is identical live to her recording voice.
Great song! I always loved Judith's vocals R.I.P judith
R.I.P. Judy.
World of Our Own, and The Carnival is Over, are two Seekers Songs you need to review, and of course, Georgy Girl
I love the 12-string era. This is probably my favorite song ever.
