We need this in the U.S.! Everyone here that needs a truck can no longer afford one.
Yup all thanks to those rich cosplayers
Trucks are out of control here. I honestly don't know whose buying these things at those crazy prices. We need affordable vehicles!
There are tons of small inexpensive used trucks on the US market. People just need to drop the ego and stop looking for massive trucks. I recently bought a 2001 Ranger for $3k. It's more than enough for the average person.
@@JamesThomas-kx5sj There are no new models, though. Ironically, it was environmental laws in the US killed the small truck.
@@Ostsol I agree the environmental laws have ruined trucks. They literally encourage trucks to get bigger. Although Ford somehow managed to make the Maverick recently so maybe things are looking up for the small truck market.
This is basically the closest successor to the wonderful small pickup trucks we had in the 80s and 90s.
Exactly !!!!
Please bring to the US market. The Tacoma is to far out of my price range, and the more affordable unibody trucks are hideous and still fairly expensive. Even, if this truck had to go up in price to meet the regulatory standards I would still buy this truck. 4x4 manual would be nice too. Thank you
Tacoma cost too much and also not durable enough for the abuse ive gotta dish out on it
We need this in Australia in Dual Cab 4x4 ute it would kill the Suzuki Jimny which is super expensive now for what it is plus the Dual Cab 4x4 tray back ute version of this Hilux Champ would sell very well if priced right.
Simple 4x4 and a 2l+ gas engine, A/C. Want.
I agree, but if you want this you gotta take it to your congressmen. Tell them to lift the import restrictions. Get others to tell them as well. Asking for it in a random youtube comment section won't ever do anything.
epa regulations and chicken tax yes you read that right the chicken tax will prevent this truck from coming to the us market.
We need this in Canada! This has the perfect balance of practicality and affordability. I'm a DIY guy, so I need to buy lumber, and occasionally move bulky items that don't fit in an SUV. I can't afford a 60 000$ CAD truck that only has a 5 foot bed. The Champ let's me do everything I want to do. I can do wood working projects, I can put my ebike in the back and go mountain biking, I can haul dirt/crushed stone/sand etc, I can take my lawn tractor to get fixed...the possibilities are nearly endless. I would buy this thing today if it were in Canada.
Sorry, not for Canada, because like Australia and the US you too live in a country run by Wankers! 🥺
same. but no one is talking about it. if toyota didnt advertise it here, then im afraid it wont come here. we have people importing kei trucks to use.
Agree that it would be great to have in Canada for 7 - 8 months a year, but come winter when it is minus 25 or 30 you will notice that there is no heater. Toyota is providing air conditioning for the hot/humid Asian market, but no heater for colder climates.
I'd buy 4 of them immediately for our wood working business. We need quality basic trucks not shiny toys that no blue collar person can afford.
This type of vehicle is needed everywhere. I would also like to see a cheap, small, no frills car like the Yugo. I owned one of those and loved it.
I would buy it with auto and the largest motor and a camper on the back. I think you are right. This is what most people want in Australia.
feeling the same, just in America.
As an Aussie. This is a dream. Cant believe Toyota Australia designed it. They named it the champ. And we still can’t buy it :(
@@arrrrr9831 Seems they have a water powered engine coming out but you can't buy any Toyota at the moment.
@@trojanhman8136 cant believe they're still on the fuel-cell train. They would make some solid evs, none of this hydrogen business
@@arrrrr9831 ruclips.net/video/yC1ZhJ8Rg0k/видео.html
Assuming it passed crash regs here, and they didn't ream us on the price, that would sell like hotcakes.
With fleet sales it could be close to #1 🤷♂️
@@CarSauceitll be a a damn good fleet vehicle too. Rental companies and stuff.
mining companies would snap these up if they did a 4x4 version.
I don't care if it's 4WD or has alloy wheels, auto, back seat or power windows. Just basic simple 2.4 four-banger, stick-shift with a large bed.
Basic Simple like they used to make in the 1980's.
Now how can we import one to the US
Why the hell Zelensky doing in austrayah selling a Japanese UT...e?
😭
He'd make a good president in Ausie
I can not unsee it now 🤷♂️
I WANT IT NOW! I NEED A UTE LIKE THIS PLSS! ILL BUY IT I PROMISE.
Beefy Zelensky. Hey, it's rhyme. 😂
This is genius. We need to stop the bloat and keep costs down
Give it cruise control, ac and heat thats all you really need bro. The rest just ups the cost
@@TheAnnoyingBossCruise control?.. in a manual vehicle?
You sir.. are part of the problem
I really hope that Toyota brings this to Australia and maybe give us a gr model (wishful thinking)
I really miss the small rwd performance ute like the hsv maloo and I think Toyota would sell heaps of them because there is nothing like it on the market.
My thoughts exactly!
problem is Toyota would be competing with themselves. why sell someone a $20,000 car when you can sell them a $60-100,000 car because there's no other options.
@@dontwobble because people that can pay will still buy that 60,000 -100,000 car while also making money from those that can't
we need this truck everywhere in the world. im from switzerland an would love to get one of these. pracitcal, based and just cool. Wake up Toyota, you could disturb the whole car market and maybe even get us on the track for more basic and affordable cars. Everyone else thinks moving in the luxury segment is the way, and that sucks... Greets from Switzerland.
Right? It's the first time ever I ever actually considered buying something with more than two wheels.
The awesome thing is Toyota in thailand offers conversion kits directly, so you can get a food truck, camper, refrigerated box, construction (crane included) conversion kit etc.
Would you like to see the Toyota HiLux Champ in Australia? 🤨
You can read more about it here: www.carsauce.com/car-news/toyota-hilux-champ-the-game-changing-ute-australia-needs
It's probably needed in the US more than ever, but alas the laws says Americans can only buy large "pickups".
With the stringent safety, emission, and chicken tax this vehicle would not make it to any western country. 😂😂😂
yes we want this in Australia, the hilux has become a soccer mums car. mining companies would suck these up. but why would Toyota sell a car worth 20k in Australia when idiots spend 60k on a hilux or even 100k on a LandCruiser, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot. Another company needs to come out with a little ute like to compete.
We need it in NZ as well, I miss my old Mazda B2000! Boy that did some work for me!
Needed everywhere. USA and Australia for sure !!
100% agree. I love everything about this ute. Cars in general have just been getting bigger and bigger (look at the generations of VW Golf or Honda Civic as an example), not just the utility vehicle segment. But I've wanted a really handy, no-frills-but-capable single cab ute for a while. This looks the ducks nuts
This would do well in Australia but they need to keep it cheap! Won’t be much point if it’s only slightly cheaper then a standard hilux.
If they made it in a 4x4 with low range (manual & or auto) I'd 100% get one in Australia
Body on frame is dope. The ultra durable bed. And single cab with gas hybrid and diesel options. Pretty awesome
Stealthy mini Hilux, perfect for mounting machineguns on for the next Emu war.
@@disposabullit's literally a Hilux. just more affordable than the actual Hilux considering it uses the same underpinnings...
Sorry to break your hope, but hilux champ wouldn't come in 4x4 flavor. 4x4 reserved for full size hilux.
I love this as an owner and user of a kei truck. This is basically the design principle and all the great things about a kei truck in the small size and peak utilitarianism but with all the downsides mitigated (decent cab room, normal engine location, normal engine (not a 660cc)). Love it
BRILLIANT... WOULD DO MY FARM JOBS.
OR MAHINDRA IF TOYOTA DOESN'T.
SO COME ON TOYOTA.
I'LL BUY ONE...
NO FRILLS IS WHAT FARMERS WANT AROUND THE FARM...

We have something called a bolero pikup for 10.5 k USD but it doesnt have AC (has fan) and is 75 horsepowers, 200 NM. It is an abuse friendly thing but youll probably feel underpowered
@@vasu_0001it also needs alot more maintenance than Toyota.
@@joharkn no toyota comes at that price
@@vasu_0001 sure but that is the thing with Toyota, you get many times your money worth in time and maintenance cost.
I never thought that many people outside of Asia are envious of Toyota's IMV 0 platform. We here in the Philippines are quite blessed to assembled these as well as next gen Tamaraw.
The whole world wants it brother!
Indonesia would get as hilux rangga later this year.
In Canada now, a small entry level truck is a RAM 1500 for $60,000. The Hilux is a better deal.
Absolutely! I’m still rolling a 2005 2.4l single cab chassis Holden Rodeo. It’s so basic, it pretty much a trailer with an engine. Sure it doesn’t impress anyone and can’t tow a small universe but with its big, low drop side tray and rack up to and at the front, it can do more actual work than most of the over priced jacked up liabilities most people seem to want so they get that special feeling in the pants. This little champ looks like a “get shit done, not look like I can” weapon!
Great review, expat aussie living in thailand.
Nice set of wheels, and lwb, will be just the thing for taking the dirt bikes and for camping 😊
At around 20k drive away, Toyota are going to sell a lot of these in Asia.
Thailand don't use expensive to buy vans for light delivery vehicles, they use mainly isuzu utes with big cargo boxes on the back. Much cheaper alternative.
Would be very surprised if Toyota Australia imported them, many Aussie's have been brainwashed into believing everyone needs a dual cab 4wd
Its like the old 1980s Hilux you use to see. Single cab. Basic and awesome.
It should come to Australia I agree, but I doubt Toyota will do that. If they did, I feel the price would be so ridiculous that it would just make more sense to buy a single cab Hilux
If toyota can sell them in every region of rhe globe they cpuld make enough to get the price down to competitive spot I bet
compete with themselves?
The Toyota Hilux Champ pickup flatbed, 3-drop downsides is what I want. Especially when hauling dirt, gravel, and sand. I can drive up next to a hole/low point on the property drop the side gates and shovel whatever off filling up the hole. I can have Lowe's load a pallet of whatever onto the bed of the truck and drive off. My first time learning to drive was in my Gran Daddy's 1966 F100 I6 3-speed column shift. Yep, I'm old school when it comes to pickups. I ain't one of these Saturday Night Rhinestone Cowboys who drives pretty 4x4, 100,000 trucks. Nope, not me.
I think this would become one of the biggest selling cars world wide , if they released it in more countries. Aussies are always going to the tip. Perfect for small loads to the tip. Love it! We need this in Australia NOW!
i hope they will also release that here in USA....i only need a super basic truck that can carry my motorcycles
I massively agree! The Champ is a pretty basic vehicle by Australian market standards (except for perhaps the 70 Series), but for many looking for work or especially farm vehicles it's plenty for what they want or need.
And maybe they could spec it up for our market too - I could see a dual-cab pickup version being popular as a cheap lifestyle ute.
Yes, a budget dual-cab might lever me out of my 450,000K crewman
I feel like Toyota is leaving so much money on the table by not selling this around the world. In the U.S. we are sick and tired of paying outrageous prices for vehicles. This ticks so many boxes I think it would sell like crazy. But we need a 4x4 option with A.C. I already have a new car but I'd buy a second to have this.
I think Toyota will eventually release something to compete with Maverick, but we are just going to be last in line until they work out kinks and possibly find a place in North America to manufacture it. Until then, just find an import daihatsu mini truck assuming it is legal in your state.
In America, the problem is not Toyota refusing to sell but your laws and regulations and lobbying with the latter being the biggest hurdle
Could not agree more!!! this ute is brilliant !!! bring back simple good
I live in the United States and back in the 80s you could buy a small truck with no radio, no carpet basic wheels, they should’ve never let greed destroy that sector of the market
It wasn't "greed" (are you saying they didn't make money selling small trucks?), it's government regulation that has driven the small truck out, and will keep this truck out as well.
its the car companies themselves that did it. they give no other option. why sell a 20k car when then can make you buy a 60k car because there's no other options.
@@dontwobble Because you can sell more units of the cheaper item. ...I don't know what you mean by "making a person buy a 60K car" when there are still people who have no car.
The WORLD NEEDS a $10K Champ.
Absolutely agree. Simple is beautiful mate. This thing would fly out of the dealerships. I always wondered why all trucks go so big. I would buy one of these.
Need this in the US too. It is kind of funny to hear someone in Australia complaining about someone getting a utility vehicle. I have been complaining for years about the land cruisers in Australia, not being available in the United States.
I can't wait to see these on the roads in Thailand.
Would buy one if its 4x4 with low range. Id turn it into a fun 4wding/camping ute. Lots of scratches n beaten up from trails? Meh, thats what it wax made for 👍 would buy one as a toy in a heartbeat
Mini truckars or mini utas. Would finally get some new to slam to the ground on bags. Why not. Lets have it here in Australia and New Zealand market. Already see an after market for these little gems.
This hilux will maybe replace the Philippines iconic jeepny's
I don’t think anything can top those 😅
I love the simplicity and durability !!!!!
Great Work, let’s bring it over to Australia
Saw a video from Afganistan last week... one of these was in the back as a Technical... had a Dishka mounted to the back.
its actually Toyota Tamaraw FX new Line up for almost 2 decades. Its like the import version of Tamaraw FX which originated and manufactured in the Philippines. I hope someday my family could avail it because its older version was very Iconic♥
A lot of us old guys would jump on this lil truck in the US too, I know our EPA would not allow the diesel here, but us old guys know how to drive a manual. I’d keep my F150 but this would be my run around truck everyday!!!♥️
sooo great, to put hunted game in the back, take surboards to the beach, a fkng camper anything!
My grandpa still has his 70s VW truck, which had the same system where you can fold the side panels and make it flat
Yes I am here watching this because I want it in Australia to. (Have you seen the ford F650? What a colossus).
Fantastic bit of kit
Definitly need this in Canada
I wanted one of these but got a 2022 Daihatsu Hijet because this wasn't come here... I love it
We seriously need this in the US. As someone who’s looking for an affordable truck that I can install a camper on, i NEED this.
Finally, a truck that's well...a truck. Because at one point trucks were bare bones work vehicles. Four wheels an engine and not much else.
Heck, if the Champ sells well I could certainly see a hybrid or EV in the future.
I would most definitely purchase this ute tomorrow if available.
We need the champ in Australia. I own a povo pack hilux workmate petrol auto love it.
USA needs it.
OH, what a Feeling.
Bring it to Australia. I am going to the dealership to order 5 , 1 for me and 4 for my boys.
We do have grey imported daihatsu hi-jet, suzuki carry and subaru sambar
100% bring it to Aus, I'll make two saucy work trucks !
an affordable, reliable, no frills ute? That sounds perfect for Australia, especially given the options to fit it out where it matters most, the cargo tray.
Steel bed like that is huge. Easily modifiable
Toyota built the TUV (Toyota Utility Vehicle) in the mid-80's, a stripped down single cab & wagon with very basic styling and functions. Even a 4x4 version with a Prado gearbox/transfer case! I still see a few on the road 40 years later...
Bring it to the us! Far more practical than any truck on the market right now. For now I’ll just have to put a flatbed on my tacoma
We need this in New Zealand too!!!
Omg an almost 8ft bed!? That's even getting hard to find here in the states! I want that baby!!
Champ is the Hijet kei truck but bigger. What a fantastic idea Toyota has come up with. I would buy one tomorrow.
I wish I could sneak one into the U.S..... Currently own an old Kei Truck (98 Hijet) that I imported over but states are starting to crack down on those now too. We can't have nice things 😭
I love this champ! I'm not a tradie or a blue collar bloke , but I'd buy one if these champs just because I want it! Please release in Australia!
I just climbed into it. 2/13/24
Nice
Bring the Champ to America! I know so many people that would love to have a UTE like this!
Yo hey now great video I'm in California and I want two of them
i love my 2023 jimny .. and i also want that new mini hilux badly! such fun small simple cars :-)
I've looking for a replacement for my 10yr hliux SR, the new hilux workmate/sr not an attractive option - I'd buy this in a heartbeat!
i want this as my little cyberpunk buzzybee around town in Australia
As Thai, we love it since it's suite people in logistics with lower cost compare to other model. Moreover it's customizable to fit in various business and styles as well. No question about toyota engine. it's durable with low cost M/A. This champ design by Thai team for local to prioritize function rather than fancy tech.
We need them in the USA too!!
I really hope the Hilux Champ comes to America! It is the coolest little truck since... trucks were actually little. I love it in all it's forms!

From some of their concept photos and rumours. Id love to own one. There were talks of a HEV system and a 4wd system, as well as an extra cab. And that combo would have me putting money down. Being small and light is a huge advantage off road. All utes are huge compared to their 90s equiverlet. And at the end of the day their practical capabilites have remained minimally changed.
I can see it being a plucky little practical beast.
Seriously this will be a huge hit
dont you guys have the simple single cabin version of the hillux ?
Hey Ssstrallia, hilux champ just arrived here in Feejee(Fiji)
How do you go about importing one or two into the US?
C'mon Aussie Toyota. Bring this little fella over here. I need one!
Toyota sells the Tacoma in the US, it’s a bit bigger than a Ford Ute, but better, 4WD, you can get it single cab, extended cab or dual cab. I don’t know if the sell it I diesel, the one I drove was a v6 petrol, it had a lift and worked well off road, ideal for a Tradie.
My company wants to buy 10 of these. We are eagerly waiting for this released in the middle-east
I would love to see this in the north American market. It is exactly the type of vehicle that I want.
Toyota needs to bring it to the USA also and make it US road legal. here in the US we need 4 WD or at least all wheel drive as the snows get deep at times and prefer cloth seats and a extended cab for the gear.
They should just sell every version of it here
can we personally import this if/does it pass emisions for aus or uk i would buy two right away for my business love the flex ability of changeable back ends
Bring this to Canada please! The diesel manual version is the one that I will buy
Absolutely need this in America, our trucks are so expensive.
We need this platform in the Caribbean, especially a twin cab automatic hybrid
this whould sell like crazy here in aus
I'd buy one if it comes to Australia. It's just the size and basics I'm looking for.

I want one of these in Canada!!!
I love the design of the different Toyota Ute's from countries like Australia and Saudi Arabia. I don't want a big truck for all kinds of expensive reasons. Typically the practical smaller trucks aren't sold in the United States. Bummer. 🙄
Yes a budget basic 4wd model in Aus for less then 30k new would be sick
