There are tons of small inexpensive used trucks on the US market. People just need to drop the ego and stop looking for massive trucks. I recently bought a 2001 Ranger for $3k. It's more than enough for the average person.

We need this in Canada! This has the perfect balance of practicality and affordability. I'm a DIY guy, so I need to buy lumber, and occasionally move bulky items that don't fit in an SUV. I can't afford a 60 000$ CAD truck that only has a 5 foot bed. The Champ let's me do everything I want to do. I can do wood working projects, I can put my ebike in the back and go mountain biking, I can haul dirt/crushed stone/sand etc, I can take my lawn tractor to get fixed...the possibilities are nearly endless. I would buy this thing today if it were in Canada.

As Thai, we love it since it's suite people in logistics with lower cost compare to other model. Moreover it's customizable to fit in various business and styles as well. No question about toyota engine. it's durable with low cost M/A. This champ design by Thai team for local to prioritize function rather than fancy tech.

I agree with your comment about the current toyota ute, old outdated, the Ford Ranger is just that much better, and that coming from a Toyota fan boy..... Bring the Champ down under. I am even considering the Mahindra over the current luxes, that should ringing alarm bells for Toyota Australia.
Mark Williams - Bring the Champ and it will be a tradie classic, a farms friend, a couriers dream and will dominate the 2WD small ute and van market.

From some of their concept photos and rumours. Id love to own one. There were talks of a HEV system and a 4wd system, as well as an extra cab. And that combo would have me putting money down. Being small and light is a huge advantage off road. All utes are huge compared to their 90s equiverlet. And at the end of the day their practical capabilites have remained minimally changed.
I can see it being a plucky little practical beast.

As soon as I heard of this (word of mouth advertising is spreading it like wildfire) I contacted Toyota Canada and said "this is the exact truck I want... and I can't afford any of the trucks you currently have on the lot. It doesn't matter what you want to sell me: I can't afford them... and it is either this or a right hand drive 12 year old hilux from Japan."
I was told "We don't always sell people the vehicle they want.". My local dealer laughed like heck over that one as well. Everyone I tell about it say "I would buy one." and "They won't be able to meet demand". The joys of a 5 speed manual.
There is a report that it will be in Mexico in 2025... like us, they are left hand drive, and Mexico are part of NAFTA and the auto pact... and if necessary, I will go down and drive one up myself. All I need in addition to the AC is a heater for winter... BUT if they are going to build me a truck that will give half a million km or more, shouldn't they galvanize it? Call it 'the forever truck". We use a lot of salt on our roads in the winter.
