On the topic of taste evolution. MSG is not only found in common foods and mushrooms but people all over the world ate one combination of food throughout history: tomato+salt. Tomato is rich in glutamates and the moment salt is added, the higher affinity exists to form msg which gives that special taste in our currys, pizzas and many more foods!

Hey Pranav, really loved the video. Very informative. But now I am actually a little scared to eat Maggi and other food products that contain preservatives. Is it safe to eat Maggi if it has such high levels of Lead and other toxic substances? Back when I was in my 9th or 10th standard, my mom always used to say that eating packaged/canned food products was bad for health and our family strictly avoided all of this. But I used to wonder , what is it that makes these food products so harmful, if all we are doing is consuming it occasionally. I didn't have an answer at that time and now I am in college, but I still feel that I don't have an answer to this question that satisfies my curiosity completely. My mother had a weird answer and it felt very "conspiracy-theorish". She told me that "These multinational companies don't hesitate to add higher levels of these preservatives ,than the prescribed levels, just to increase the shelf life of these products and make a profit out of it. They won't consider the side-effects that are caused to the consumers due to this and these "Food Safety" departments just print what they are told to , just for a few bucks from these rich dudes. They even manipulate the expiry date and ingredients added to the products and there is no one to check them." At that time, I thought all of this was just too far-fetched and couldn't be true. But today when I saw that Maggi had easily by-passed the food safety check and had the guts to write "NO ADDED MSG" even though they have clearly added MSG, makes me think what all lies have they been telling the consumers. And not just Maggi, the entire food industry in general. And movies like "Velaikkaran" by Mohan Raja starring Sivakarthikeyan, which apparently talk about the "dark secrets" of the food manufacturing industry, don't help either. How do you verify which information is correct? Can you actually believe the things written behind the packets of these products? Even if it is in small quantities and is consumed rarely, is it safe to consume such packaged food products? Pls share ur thoughts on this.

As I had studied in college the list of amino acids forming the protein chains, I had immediately identified as msg as a sodium derivative one of these amino acid glutamic acid and has to be harmless. however logic also says excess of anything including water and common slat are poisonous. So definitely the experiment of feeding msg to lab animals (when I read about it) I immediately knew this is a flawed experiment. So I had known one or two grams of msg or may be about 200 mg of msg in a serving of any preparation is quite harmless. So the msg was more a scare created by racial bias than any real research or study in the population Similarly the artificial sweetener aspartame is also a kind of 'protein' made up of just two such amino acids being aspartic acid phenylalanine. And there is the methanol group somewhere to link these two amino acids and the scaremongers said (besides other scare mumbo jumbo) this methanol gets released when the aspartame break up into the two amino acids in the stomach or intestine. This methanol is a deadly poison, conveniently forgetting how much of this sweetening agent is added to a cup of tea and how much methanol is released which is extremely low as compared to lethal dose or even poisonous dose for serious effects

Next up: phytoestogren ≠ oestrogen. While soy milk contains phytoestrogen, milk contains straight up oestrogen. So the argument against soy products coz of phytoestrogen is another form of baseless fear mongering.
@@ankitaharwal5886 umm, you do realize it's just like any other legume (Kidney Beans, Chickpeas, Pinto beans, Black Eyed Peas etc.)? Do you ferment your rajma or chole?
@@DivjotSingh yes it's a legume. But soy contain very high amount of phytic acid which blocks absorption of nutrients. Also, soy protein insanely hard to digest create more problem than it solves. Also, in no part of the world soybean is eaten traditionally, no human nor animals have eaten this. It only gain traction in recent times which some company(I don't remember it's name) started it's lobbying and artificially increased it's demand, especially in central India. Generally, fermented foods are very healthy, incase for soybean fermentation becomes necessary. Hi pranav, first of all congrats and thanks for bringing up such a great and well researched topic. I was having similar thoughts for some of the other religious videos which are there on the channel. Your research is on point for all of them but what I think using references for studies done by foreign researchers can be heavily biased given the fact that "science and racism has a long history". Also, the results can be heavily pivoted due to placebo effect as well therefore varying opinion on such topics. I understand that you're not against any particular religion and you try to bring facts from a scientific perspective but given the unavoidable biased nature of the person/group conducting the research either in favour or against a particular thought and then using them as reference to conclude a broader topic is not sufficient. There have been times when scientific community was not even open to accept that earth is not the centre of the universe. I guess there'll always be so many things which we as a community need to explore and properly understand instead of just negating them by assuming that it is entirely baseless or not possible or some of the researches in the area has not given significant results in support of any such phenomena. Your thoughts??
I think you're implying that if a research study is not biased in favour of a topic, it has to be biased against the topic. There's no in between. Not true. And also, it doesn't matter if the researchers are biased or not. The research need not be flawed. It's flawed when the research methodology is bad. Bias in research is only in the form of such flaws which can be caught through peer review.
@@scienceisdope Agreed. But what I'm saying is the results and findings will mostly be heavily inclusive of the researchers own belief. Say for meditation, whoever believes it's helpful he'll be looking for those results and whoever is against of it will look for the same while conducting a research. Being totally rational in such sense is pretty much tough. Also, about the peer review. Again peer review are supposed to be influenced by the reviewers own thought and there's always support and against bifurcation among the peers for any given research.
Hello Sir, Please Make a video on Kangen or Alkaline Water. how much different is it from normal RO water. what are its benefits and disadvantages to the human body. I'm asking about it, cause, yesterday a person came at home to explain things of kangen water. plus that machine costs a kidney. now i'm got confused about home RO water and Kangen Water..
Purvesh the answer is all sales people wants to sell their products. Product's which give them most commission. The reality about water is... Go for RO+UV as Reverse+Osmosis filters all the solid particles and UltraViolet kills all the bacteria. You really don't need any extra minerals in your water. If you lacks any required minerals, you can directly take it in your food or in medicine.
Bro, my father fell for such kangen water scam. Yes it is an MLM scheme. Alkaline water is useless as your stomach has a fixed ph. If u dilute it, then stomach will make more acid to bring back ph. Infact for older people, their stomachs becomes more alkaline due to poor acid production, thus giving digestion issues. So, in any case kangen water is bs and save your money.
Alkaline water has zero proven benefits but some potential harms. Usual RO water is absolutely fine for everyday drinking and cooking purposes. Any benefits it's supporters claim have no basis in science and it's a well known pseudoscience in the scientific communities. It only benefits the businesses that function through disinformation campaigns and fear mongering. If you need more in depth coverage of all water related pseudoscience, check out the series by professor dave.

Kudos for taking so much effort in making this ✨
Pranav , man i love the way you conclude
very informative video . do keep posting such videos in the near future .
0:43 "msg, but not this guy", had me dying 🤣🤣
Why is mustard oil banned in USA, Canada and EU. Is erucic acid really bad for consumption?
Great editing here! It would be nice to get a full video on scientific racism itself.
Next up: phytoestogren ≠ oestrogen.
While soy milk contains phytoestrogen, milk contains straight up oestrogen. So the argument against soy products coz of phytoestrogen is another form of baseless fear mongering.
Hbomberguy has a great deep dive on that.
There is even a term : Soyboy, asserting the false idea that getting protein from soyabean and other stuff over meat and dairy makes men feminine.
Soybean aren't suitable for human consumption unless they are fermented
East asians figured this thing way earlier then rest of the world, they make fermented soybeans ie tofu, doenjang, knema, etc.
Ngl i never heard the reason of Maggie getting baned as msg
I remember it was just relatively higher amount of lead
love from siliguri🇮🇳🕉
As a mixed-race Asian person, I appreciate this video for going so deep into the racism.
17:50 SNORT IT! SNORT IT!!!!
18:17 Grifters. They've always existed. "MSG MADE ME SICK!
21:35 In other words, don't snort it, but also, you shouldn't be snorting anything!
This is really well-researched, well done mate!
I have a good research to conclude MSG is not bad. Thanks to the writer !
Dude your video editing skils have gone up,looks so cool
You mentioning uncle roger was the last thing I expected ever.
Why am i getting the feeling that i have already watched this video.
Great. Thank you.
Your research is amazing
Quality Content🔥
Subscribed instantly brother! Kudos♥️
Amazing video as always
The amount of misinformation on MSG is appalling
I've never feared using msg, but this is a really good video! Thanks!!
hi, love your content. Uncle roger reference is cool. keep up the great work.
Its bullshit.Thats it. There's no water purer than RO.(well there's distilled water but you won't drink it)
Purvesh the answer is all sales people wants to sell their products.
Thank you so much guys for clarifying my doubt.
Great one. Thank you for this content!
I learnt Giant Pandas during their evolution lost their Glutamic Receptors in the Bamboo forest of China that's why they became Vegetarian/ Bamboo eaters
finally you started to make videos on sci misinfo which is not just coming from religious spaces, after my many request for videos on sci misinfo from gov, legal institutions, academia, scientific community
This man is Legend !!

Please make one video on Scientology too. It is an extremely powerful cult
Wow.. 😲...

keep it up man. Good topic!
I had been fearing MSG all my life! Thanks for busting this modern myth. I wonder how many flawed study results are still circulating around us
My beloved Maggie
If this was a video of fittuber he would have probably called msg toxic since it is made from acid and has a big chemical name
Nice information
Marvelous research
Beautiful presentation
