    If you are just replacing the control arms, shock insert, tie rods, and sway bar links, do you actually have to remove the brakes, or can they stay on?

    fantastic video serries! very through, was able to rebuild front suspension. A few notes for anyone also considering this.
    1.) tie off the ball joint removal tool with tie wire to something solid. It flew off once hitting my foot which was not ideal, and i feel as though i got lucky.
    2.) my car just plain old would not give up one of the ball joints using the mentioned tool. Do yourself a favor and have a pickle fork and 3lb hammer ready as a backup.
    3.) as mentioned in the video, the springs can be taken to an independent shop. just make sure they know E39 suspension. there is a bit of a trick to lining up all the suspension bits, otherwise the ride height will be off.
    that said, what is the song in the video?

    the bolt that clamps the spindel around the strut is hell to turn around. this bolt must out for the strut to glide off right?

    would you happen to have a part number for the plastic control arm cover that you removed in 4:57 ?

    I'm contemplating tackling this as I'd rather not pay a shop and would like to learn to do this myself so thank you for putting this great video together. I appreciate the high quality! Quick question for you -- the reason I'm thinking about replacing mine is because the front passenger side tends to knock whenever I'm hit the brakes (fast or slow, I'll hear a knock). Would this overhaul fix that problem? The specific part the shop called out was a thrust arm bushing...

    • @Chris-im6uq
      @Chris-im6uq 5 лет назад +2

      strut tower mount maybe? that was my problem after installing Coilovers

    • @Minerva___
      @Minerva___ 5 лет назад

      @@Chris-im6uq It ended up being the thrust arm. Replaced it and no more knock! Feels great but it took me quite a bit of time having never done a job this "big." Big thanks to @BIMMER ZEIT though, this video was super helpful.

    since most e39 models use aluminum for some suspension components, does any aftermarket company make steel replacements?

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT  6 лет назад +1

      No they do not, but why would you want to? They were designed all aluminum which was ground breaking for this time period in BMW engineering. The most expensive arm for a good Lemforder unit is only $100. The bushings wear like any other arm and do not have any tendency or issues bending under normal use (outside of a collision, in which case, steel will bend too).

    Nice video bro but wanna know where i can put the axle jack stand in front

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT  4 года назад

      kareem Osman you can jack on the e39 jacking points and then use the front subframe for jack stands. I also throw the front wheels under the car’s rocker panels (below driver and passenger front doors) for extra precaution since the wheels are off the car anyway

    • @karim95320

      @@BIMMERZEITT is the subframe strong enough to hold the car weight if i remove bothe front wheels

      +omar k according to RealOEM diagram, the upper control arm bolts point towards the back of the car. You can view the diagram here: www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=DT63-USA-09-2001-E39-BMW-530i&diagId=31_0617
