I’m a woman who has been watching your videos for 10+ years now. My dad taught me firearm safety as a kid and these videos remind me of my dad. I’ve never been able to watch much of the other firearm RUclipsrs, with the constant macho vibe and occasional sexism. I know this is a male dominated hobby but I just want to say thanks for having such a laid back, welcoming vibe. I’ve always felt like you’re speaking to everyone who might be watching, not just the men :) & your love of teaching is so appreciated!

We're talking to everybody who has interest in firearms and the Second Amendment, regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual preference, I.Q., weight, height, nationality, political party, etc. I hope everybody feels welcome here, although I'm sure folks who do not value individual freedom will find some of my comments and libertarian attitude undesirable. :-)

It's sort of a natural thing, for men and women to group apart. I fixed a horse for a patient who was my dental hygienist. I had always wanted to learn "English" riding. So I ended up buying a nice TB from a friend of hers who took care of race horses at Bay Meadows (SF area) and began to take lessons. The barns are all female. The men have been driven out of the equine sports in most places by women. I dealt with the vibe for a long time, but I ended up quitting and selling my horse because it was so awful. Many occupations get ruined for men once one single woman gets hired. This is why men have been driven out of most of the "cushy" occupations.

It's interesting to actually hear the difference in velocity between various calibers. When Hickock shoots the cowboy or stop sign with a .38 or .45 there's a noticeable delay between the sound of the shot and the ping. But when he shoots them with a .22 Magnum there's almost no delay. Same with the gong. When he shoots at the gong with a .45ACP you can almost count the time on your fingers before the clang.

I like it! For those who are older and/or don't shoot regularly the lack of recoil is a big plus, yet the .22 Magnum was once described to me as a surgeon's nightmare. We're all not worrying about penetrating a car(or oak) door to hit our mark. Controllably firing 2 or more .22 rounds rapidly can protect as well as a larger round that requires more recovery time between shots.

I have had this pistol since June of 2023 and my very first pistol, I am new to owning guns at 66. I liked how easy to rack the slide and the capacity of it. I usually run 25 rounds in it. I love how it fits my hand and the thumb and trigger safeties. Before I ever shot it I got some snap caps and cycled them through the gun some 400 times to learn the functions of a semi auto.
I did have some missed fires or jams but easy to fix thanks to my snap cap practice. But after 200 rounds it seems to be working good. Also the gun gets extremely hot. After 50 rounds I let it cool off for a few minutes and shoot my Henry 22 classic. I am thinking about getting a 22 magnum rifle.

The downside for those of us with small-medium sized hands is it is difficult to get a firm and comfortable grip on it due to the length of the 22 mag round, but not totally unmanageable. They've figured out how to deal with rimmed cartridges here with the 22 mag and high pressure cartridges with the 5.7. Would be sweet if S&W would take this 5.7/22 mag tempo barrel platform and chamber in 327 federal with an auxiliary recoil spring for 32 S&W long.
Some other magnum form-factor chamberings would be sweet, too: 10mm Mag, 9mm WinMag, 45 WinMag, 44AMP, etc (the last two may be obnoxious)

I’ve shot over 1000 rounds of many different types of ammo. 30 and 40 grain jhp and fmj all cycle just fine. I did have a few hang-ups but not since it was broken in. It’s extremely accurate and very easy as well as affordable to shoot. I believe it’s going to be a very popular pistol, soon to have a waiting list. This is my everyday carry, with 2 magazines loaded with a mix of fmj and jhp ammo. I have 60 rounds available, with only 2 mags. I just received the 2 extra mags, so if I want I can have 120 rounds readily available. I’m guessing they will offer a threaded barrel soon but as of now it’s not an option.

Kel-Tec have stated that a 40 grain .22 WMR round should reach a velocity of 1230 fps from the 4.3″ barrel of their PMR-30 pistol. This works out to 134.40 ft/lbs of energy.
This is a significantly less than the FN Five-seveN USG (4.75″ barrel), which can push a 40 grain bullet at 2009 fps. This works out to 358.57 ft/lbs! Nearly three times as powerful as the .22 WMR
This does not mean that the .22 WMR is not a good cartridge. It simply means that the 5.7mm is optimized to be fired from a pistol, rather than the slower burning .22 WMR loads which are designed to be fired from a rifle.

Last 3 firearms I bought, I had to shop around to find an effective magazine filling device AND my old fingers hate direct loading mags these days.

30+1 of 22Mag. is pretty damn appealing. I'd carry it in a heartbeat. Egos and imaginary gunfights aside, this is great for the shooter that might flinch or hesitate firing a "real defense round". Well played S&W....and another great video from the big man.

I have one of these and it's just about my favorite pistol. As far as ammo goes, the one brand I highly discourage is Armscorps. Not only does it make the gun much dirtier faster than normal, but it also seems to blow a lot of unspent powder back at you while it's igniting. It eventually got to a point that it was bad enough that the rounds wouldn't seat all the way in the chamber, and twice I had an OBD. Much of a testament to the design of the M&P22, the action is open on almost 3 sides so the pressure could just vent up and out without blowing the gun apart. Probably not intentional because no one wants an OBD to begin with, but it helps.
Never had this issue with any other brand. I've tried Winchester, CCI, Federal, Remington, etc. FMJ and hollowpoints work great

I'll make it simple .22 magnum uses slow burning flake powder designed for long barrels, shooting it from a pistol loses much of the power it was designed for, NOW make that pistol in say .30 carbine, and using fast burning ball powder, you get a higher velocity of a rifle round shooting through a pistol, simply said if you want to get the most out of a handgun shooting a round made for a rifle round you use a round that can handle modern ball powder. I shot enough .22 magnum through a pistol to collect enough unburned powder to load boxes of rounds just from powder piled up on the ground below the barrel.

I think it's perfectly fine for self-defense. Yes, the .22 bullet is a little small for self-defense (I personally prefer the AR-10 over the AR-15) BUT, you get a 30-round magazine with very little recoil for faster follow up shots & .22 Mag. has great penetration.
I wouldn't replace my 9 m.m. with this as my ccw but, I think it would make a good truck gun here in Tennessee, where a handgun is perfectly legal but a rifle is (insanely) off limits.

    @Hickock45,
Sir, I bought this exact weapon just because of the 30 round capacity of 22 magnum.
    NOT for self defense.
But I got a smoking hot deal on the weapon and figured why not ? My wife and I both love to plink when we go to the river to fish and camp etc. and I figured less loading and more shooting right ? LOL
Anyways, I haven’t even had it out to the range yet, because I figured it this way, brand new best price I could find was $600 even. I got this one used at $465. 2 mags and the case.
I bought the only ammo they had at the time, federal 22 magnum 50 grain hollow points. I figured at such a low price for used SOMETHING isn’t right with it.
I brought it home and checked the weapon, it’s in A+ condition. Not even the smallest ding in it.
    The mags however.
I loaded a mag up to capacity. Very easy to load, but once I get past 20 rounds , the nose of each additional round drops below the “front wall” of the magazine, and all you get is failures to feed until you get to around the 15 round mark, then it’s every 3rd or 4th round failure to feed.
All of this done manually in my workshop mind you. But yeah, for a 30 round cap, I don’t want to be loading to half cap and just live it.
I’ve heard they don’t really break in until the 250th or 300th round fired, but this won’t even load the first without SIGNIFICANT fiddling around with the mags.
    Got any ideas ?
I figured I could do a feed ramp polish and MAYBE lower the front wall of the mag with a dremel tool so it’s not blocking the first rounds.
Please sir, your extensive knowledge might help in this case ???
If not, I appreciate you for the videos nonetheless and thank you and God Bless you and yours.
