    I own the Kel-Tec PMR-30 and now the Smith & Wesson 22 magnum both are great guns. I will say though with the Kel-Tec right out the box I was having feeding and failure to eject issues and I had shot over 300 rounds of CCI 40 grain ammo. Reached out to Kel-Tec sent the gun back, no cost out of my pocket and they resolved my issue's.With the Smith&Wesson I've shot just a hundred rounds so far with no issues. I love both guns very fun to shoot

    The reason for the fireball is because the 22 WMR was initially designed for a 17 inch rifle barrel, so the powder is going out the end of the pistol barrel while it is still burning. The pressure for the WMR and 22LR are exactly the same at 24,000 psi. I've got the 3 22 Mags in the safe (revolver, semi pistol, semi rifle) Looks like I might soon have another. - Also need to get a lever gun in 22 wmr.

    For a 22WMR pistol, I recommend shooting Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 40 gr JHP. It is actually designed for the shorter barrel. You get less fireball because it burns off in the barrel. When shooting a pistol with ammo designed for a rifle, you get a lot less velocity and a much bigger fireball.

    • @jimbosammy4255
      @jimbosammy4255 9 месяцев назад +1

      I have to wonder what Speer has done to claim it's designed for a shorter barrel. Or is it just marketing to catch the recent introduction of new WMR's hitting the market. Not putting them down but the only thing would be the powder, it seems.

    It would be interesting to know what the actual velocity is coming out of that handgun. The listed velocity is assuming a longer barrel like you would get from a riffle. I have had a Kel Tec PMR 30 for a few years and have put a few thousand rounds down range without any failure to feed. The keep is properly loading the mags. I look forward to seeing a head to head comparison between this and the PMR 30. This looks like it was inspired by the PMR 30.

      @davidmack4185 Yeah, I'm having a bit of a hard time believing him, but will give the benefit of the doubt because internet. Rimfire in general is likely to malf sooner or later due in no part to the gun, at the very least. I have two Kel-Tecs- KSG and RDB. The former is picky with shell brands/types and the latter ran 2k rounds flawlessly until the hammer snapped. I like Kel-Tec, but don't trust their guns one fat smidge.
      I've heard the same negative thing you said about the old Walther PP series- expensive and not always reliable, but they sure look cool! I don't have one, but do have some cheap Hungarian clones of it- Two PA63s in 9x18 and one in 380. After Wolff Spring ugrades to them, none have failed. Maybe a spring upgrade for your Walther is in order.

    I like 22 Magnum and I have a rifle and pistol chambered in 22 WMR.
    You are gaining 40 ft lbs of energy in a 5" pistol barrel 22 mag over a 22 LR.
    It's significant.
    But 22 WMR really shines out of a longer barrel; doubling and nearly tripling the energy of 22LR.
    Ballistics by the Inch has great test data.
    It's worth thinking about.

I did some honing of the bolt face and the ramp then the Remingtons feed now but Federal 50gr ammo is still a no go. Hornady 30-40 grain ammo works just fine. CCI 40 grain ammo is great too. Magazines are flimsy plastic. I can only get 29 rounds in mine with any brand of ammo and I suspect the mags could be a cause of feeding issues. Accuracy at 25yds is nothing to brag about. My trigger is a lawyer trigger. It's, heavy with creep and a lot of travel on the reset. I love the pistol in that caliber but a little more work needs to go into that pistol. S&W - plastic mags?? Come on Smith! I see some have had better experiences and mine may be a fluke but I am NOT happy with my M&P 22WMR - yet!.

    I like the new barrel system that S&W have developed,, I wish that the Canadian Goverment reverses their ban on handguns. On another note, I have been wanting to get one of the rsm's complete mini 50 kits. Do you know if they are still around? Their web page has not been updated in some time and there is no mention of the acessories for the mini 50, like the muzzle break. I have sent a few emails but recieved no replies

    As with my RUGER Single Six using .22 WRM it is a LOUD cartridge - anode yeah, has a muzzle flame.

  • @RunNGunPhoto

    Yeah that's a loud pop! 😲
    It also appears to have as much recoil (or more) as the 9mm.

    I like it because of the capacity 31 rounds wow and the low recoil and with that barrel length I think it's not as loud as the 9mm

    Would like to see S&W come out with a 22 mag carbine, similar to what kel tec did with the cmr30.

    My next .22 magnum. I have the keltec PMR-30, Bond Arms snake slayer, High Standard derringer and Ruger 10/22 .22 magnum. I like the .22 magnum...fun round at bullseye because of the fireball and its loud at an indoor range....lol.

    I've owned a PMR 30 for several years which is a fine little 22 mag. in my opinion.....however, this is a new deal all together. I'm getting one very soon and I can't wait to try it out. Since this is a hammer fired gun the trigger is much better than the Kel tec.......I tried it yesterday. Thanks for the video Plinkster.....good job as always man!

      Get Your Facts strait my friend, the PMR30 is also a Hammer Fired Handgun! This S&W, I'm Sure is a Fine Quality Gun But Just a Copy of the PMR30 which is Now a Proven Great 22Magnum Handgun! "Greatest of all Time", I don't Think So!

    • @nealtolbert2057
      @nealtolbert2057 Год назад +1

      @@stevekatz4372 You are correct that the PMR 30 is a hammer fired gun. I did not have my facts 'straight' on that. However is is not a copy of the Keltec. It has a totally different operating system....if its a copy of anything it would be of their M&P 5.7, which, I believe, has the same Tempo shrouded barrel system. Time will tell as to whether it's the 'Greatest of all time' I'm sure.

    I jave a question! I just picked up my S&W 22 mag and it shoots awesome. My question is whats keeping Smith and Wesson from machining an exchangeable barrel for 17HMR like springfield does with rhe 9mm and .40 cal?

    When you compare all of the .22 WMR pistols, please spend some time on the magazines and their reliability.
    My PMR-30 runs a lot better thanks to MCARBO but the magazines can still be a pain.

    Can someone explain to me why some rounds(all the same ammo in the magazine) have big ass muzzle flash and some are just a mild gray dust poof, while hes firing in succession at the beginning? Id like to know so we can figure out a way to duplicate the lower flash signature.

    I have long been a big fan of the .22 Magnum, initially because it was the caliber most suited to my wife being able to use a gun (she's not lived a "gun" life, unlike me - I've been target shooting since my days at Boy Scout summer camp, back when Kennedy was President), but I also like the idea of a .22 magnum as a home defense weapon. Plus I like to shoot it. This looks like my next handgun. I have a M&P EZ in .380 as it makes a lot of sense. I'm pretty much converting all my pistols to ones that have an easy slide to rack, even with arthritis in my left hand (being old sucks, but it beats the alternative), and if this puppy is relatively easy to rack, then I'm all for it.
    Some of my favorites, such as my Walther PPK, are not made for old guys with a touch of arthritis. It "pains me" to have to either retire these or just keep them around for fun and for their look and feel. Yeah, when I've got it and it's loaded with snap caps, I'm reliving my James Bond days, big-time.

      I’d recommend a revolver. I shoot both revolvers and pistols, but if I had to have only one type, I’d go revolver. Easy to clean and reliable. If it’s 22 mag your interested in, Ruger’s LCRx is awesome.
