    I own the Kel-Tec PMR-30 and now the Smith & Wesson 22 magnum both are great guns. I will say though with the Kel-Tec right out the box I was having feeding and failure to eject issues and I had shot over 300 rounds of CCI 40 grain ammo. Reached out to Kel-Tec sent the gun back, no cost out of my pocket and they resolved my issue's.With the Smith&Wesson I've shot just a hundred rounds so far with no issues. I love both guns very fun to shoot

    The reason for the fireball is because the 22 WMR was initially designed for a 17 inch rifle barrel, so the powder is going out the end of the pistol barrel while it is still burning. The pressure for the WMR and 22LR are exactly the same at 24,000 psi. I've got the 3 22 Mags in the safe (revolver, semi pistol, semi rifle) Looks like I might soon have another. - Also need to get a lever gun in 22 wmr.

    For a 22WMR pistol, I recommend shooting Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 40 gr JHP. It is actually designed for the shorter barrel. You get less fireball because it burns off in the barrel. When shooting a pistol with ammo designed for a rifle, you get a lot less velocity and a much bigger fireball.

    • @jimbosammy4255
      @jimbosammy4255 Год назад +1

      I have to wonder what Speer has done to claim it's designed for a shorter barrel. Or is it just marketing to catch the recent introduction of new WMR's hitting the market. Not putting them down but the only thing would be the powder, it seems.

I have had a Kel Tec PMR 30 for a few years and have put a few thousand rounds down range without any failure to feed. The keep is properly loading the mags. I look forward to seeing a head to head comparison between this and the PMR 30. This looks like it was inspired by the PMR 30.

      @davidmack4185 Yeah, I'm having a bit of a hard time believing him, but will give the benefit of the doubt because internet. Rimfire in general is likely to malf sooner or later due in no part to the gun, at the very least. I have two Kel-Tecs- KSG and RDB. The former is picky with shell brands/types and the latter ran 2k rounds flawlessly until the hammer snapped. I like Kel-Tec, but don't trust their guns one fat smidge.
      I've heard the same negative thing you said about the old Walther PP series- expensive and not always reliable, but they sure look cool! I don't have one, but do have some cheap Hungarian clones of it- Two PA63s in 9x18 and one in 380. After Wolff Spring ugrades to them, none have failed. Maybe a spring upgrade for your Walther is in order.

    You are gaining 40 ft lbs of energy in a 5" pistol barrel 22 mag over a 22 LR.
    It's significant.
    But 22 WMR really shines out of a longer barrel; doubling and nearly tripling the energy of 22LR.

I did some honing of the bolt face and the ramp then the Remingtons feed now but Federal 50gr ammo is still a no go. Hornady 30-40 grain ammo works just fine. CCI 40 grain ammo is great too. Magazines are flimsy plastic. I can only get 29 rounds in mine with any brand of ammo and I suspect the mags could be a cause of feeding issues. Accuracy at 25yds is nothing to brag about. My trigger is a lawyer trigger. It's, heavy with creep and a lot of travel on the reset. I love the pistol in that caliber but a little more work needs to go into that pistol. S&W - plastic mags?? I have had the PMR for about 12 years, also a CMR for about 8 years. Last week I ordered two steel feed ramps from MCarbo. If that fixes the feed issues withthe PMR, then I am keeping it. The feed issues with the CMR are rare, but does happen. If the feed issues are not solved, then one of these pistols will be next.

      I did the entire PMR Mcarbo upgrade kit, with the stainless steel feed lips. Mine runs like a champ! I replaced everything myself and it was difficult getting everything to line up together correctly putting it back, but I did it, and I'm proud to carry it, with my drone bag, when I'm out flying and it's nice to have a reliable pistol with lots of extra ammo just in case...

    I really don’t understand why so many people lead with the caveat if you have something wrong with you that keeps you from firing a full sized firearm use this instead. Honestly given how flat shooting this caliber is and the capacity I wish more people would carry it even those that are able-bodied.

    I remember all of the rave reviews about the Sig P322, based on review pistol reviews. I bought one and regret it. I’m not saying S&W is the same kind of company as Sig, but I think Honest Outlaw’s experience is going to be much more the norm with this pistol than 22 Plinkster’s. I will wait on this, let you all test it in the wild, and see if anyone still likes it 6 months from now. It may need some chamber polishing, may just need to be broken in, or it may just be hard to make those long skinny rounds feed in a production pistol.

    • @Joeak74
      @Joeak74 Год назад

      Check out Honest Outlaw's review on 5 weapons not to buy, and in that video, he had a Kel-Tech KS7. He said/showed it fall apart during firing it. He didn't have the magazine tube end cap screwed on or barely on. This made it "fall apart" That's pretty skewed and unfair in my opinion, regardless of which weapon it is. Same goes for shooting it "right out of the box". No inspection? didn't read the manual? And...NO LUBE. Who the hell does that? Too many gun tubers do this then show the weapon not working properly. Lubricate the weapon. It's mechanical. It's also in the manual. Just saying.

    .22wmr has the same pressure as the .22LR. But uses a slower powder. Since the case is very long, this creates problems in blowbacks. Tapping gas from such a low pressure usually don't work well either, since it tends to get dirty fast. At least that is my understanding of this.

      You are exactly right. They both have very similar pressure numbers, which is around 24,000 psi. The only difference is the .22 magnum has a longer case to accept more powder. Therefore, the .22 magnum hits harder and has a flatter trajectory.

    • @CandidZulu

      @@CandidZulu Yes, it does use a slower burning powder, but the longer case on the magnum allows it to shoot flatter and hit harder, because of more powder capacity on .22 magnum.
