That’s wild to think the old restraints make the roller coaster more unhinged because I thought this year’s ride was absurdly intense and ejector packed!
I 1000% agree with your take. While this is the best move for most people, I definitely agree that the old restraints gave all the elements more character and felt way more unhinged in a way no coaster on the planet could replicate. While all the elements are still strong, Wildcats Revenge is also now my favorite ride in the park.
I think the new restraints are a huge upgrade and I'm so glad they did it. I hated the old ones, even though they made this ride feel downright terrifying. I would ride Candymonium considerably more than Skyrush after it was built because I enjoyed it more. I really wanted to like Skyrush, I found that holding onto the sides of the restraint and pulling up made it better. Plus flexing your legs while the crew was checking them was helpful. I rode it at the end of June though and I think it's still an incredibly intense ride but much more enjoyable. I like the theming upgrades too but I do agree the original logo was better.
The first drop gives an extra pop of ejector in the back rows because the angle of descent briefly straightens out for a few feet just past the end of the catwalk (at about 60 degrees of incline, atop the large "block" directly beneath the rails) . You get a little pop of fortuitous jank as you cross back into the curving section of track following the flatter portion (you can see an abrupt change in the angle of each car as it crosses the flat-to-curved transition), with the back row seeming to cross that spot at about twice the speed of the front.
I definitely enjoyed the new restraints. I hated the old ones which felt like amputation. The new ones aren't perfect, and I hate the little piece on the bottom of them, but I do like them better! I still felt all of the forces without the agony of the old restraints
Just finished this, great review! I hope to get out to Hershey soon. On the note of doing re-reviews, do you plan on re-reviewing Lightning Rod anytime soon? I just got to ride it a couple weeks ago and it absolutely blew my mind. I was lucky enough to ride it MANY times from 2016-2019 so I was worried the chain lift would make it less enjoyable. I can genuinely say I had probably my best ride on it with the chain lift. The airtime on the wave turn actually made me feel like I was going to fly out the coaster. It’s one of the only times I’ve ever actually felt terrified on a coaster, lol. The entire experience was a complete shock to me. I’d love to hear your experience!
i completely agree with your thoughts on the new restraints. i think they definitely do weaken some of the forces but i also do still think it is a great ride. i’d also say it is probably a 9 or 9.5 out of 10 ride now when it used to be a 10 for me as well but ill still always love skyrush and it still makes for an amazing 1-2 punch with wildcat!
You can kinda see how that kink works at 15:02, ironically thats the angle displayed when you said you cant figure it out lol But from what i see after the crest the radius widens going down and then suddenly tightens up again just before it hits its max angle and then it pulls out, someone forgot to hit depump vertices lol
I had heard horror stories for years about Skyrush until I finally rode is years ago. Generally, if people say a ride is painful or uncomfortable, even if I disagree I can still understand where people are coming from. But on Skyrush I truly did not feel even slightly uncomfortable and was left confused regarding what people were referring to. I know it's somewhat subjective but I just don't relate to the idea that it was uncomfortable. That said, I do love the new seats Intamin has been using. And since comfort was an issue for a lot of people, I think this was still a good idea. And it's not like you can make Skyrush a weak or modest ride.
@@CanobieCoaster I get what you're saying. And I understand the idea of narrow lap bars being painful with aggressive airtime. And I'm not trying to say anyone is the less for having a painful experience. I'm just saying that I personally have not noticed any pain which I fully expected to before I'd ever ridden it.
I'm super skinny, so when I experience the Intamin/Mack lap bars my thighs are smothered and I get no airtime. I honestly prefer RMC restraints or even Intamin OTSRs because even though I have to sacrifice a bit of comfort, it only comes down on one spot so I can still get airtime. Skyrush's restraints, while probably a bit painful, looked like It'd give a crazy experience, and this time last year it was my number one bucket list coaster, but I doubt the experience will deliver anything like it did when it had the old restraints. It's understandable that you rated this coaster lower, as I would have too, to a much greater extent, if I'd ridden both iterations. But I can see why Hershey did what they did, because the old restraints looked terrible for most riders.
I’m also super skinny. The restraints still came down HARD, and even tho I would be pushed into the seat for airtime by the restraints, it was so strong I could still feel it. Thought WCR was better tho
I’m pretty thin also and I think that’s why this ride was so unpleasant for me. I expected to like it in spite of the reputation as I rode Son of Beast several times, but the restraints were so bad for me I don’t even remember the other aspects of the ride. One and done, but I’d like to try it again now.
I liked the old restraints, but the side to side motion in the seats sometimes caused me to have a partial dislocation in my hips if I rode the wings. The new seats allow me to sit wherever I like, and I can now safely experience the back left wing seat!
I live in Indiana, and I’m a newer enthusiast. ( been one for about two years) so I never rode the old restraints. But this may I went out to Hershey and great adventure and I had a blast. I don’t rank coasters, mainly because there are quite a few I would put at number one, this one included. This ride felt absolutely ridiculous in the back row, especially that drop. Blew away my expectations.
My first ride on Skyrush was around 2 weeks ago so I never rode with the old controversial restraints. As of recently Skyrush is my second favorite coaster of all time and the restraints allowed me to get crazy ejector airtime where it truly felt like I was getting tossed out of the seat , for reference im around 185 lbs , 6’1 ft.
I never rode the old Skyrush, but when I was there last Monday (7/29), it was great. Second favorite ride in the park behind Wildcat. Definitely didn't get the airtime that I had heard about on the old version, but it was still really forceful and enjoyable.
I mean I got literally no airtime at all with the old restraints, but yes even with the new restraints this ride's airtime is super over-hyped. Nowhere near something like Phantoms Revenge or El Toro
The coaster that made me an enthusiast. I adapted to the old restraints, and they didn't bother me unless the ride crew was staple happy. Row 8 is the best, but Skyrush rocks in all rows.
Trick I do with every coaster with airtime is to always sit very forward in the seat, where it's higher, and/or thrust up a little when restraints are checked. Then, as pulling out station, slide back into the seat and bam, airtime. I usually leave like 2" gap between thighs. No where near enough to be dangerous. Just dont be stupid with it. On a B&M you can legit scare yourself with how much restraint room you can get away with.
I tried so hard to enjoy Skyrush with the old restraints. But my thighs are like tree trunks, so I got the biggest brunt. It felt like a tourniquet around my legs unless I defensively pushed up on the restraint during the whole ride. Not sure when I’ll visit Hershey again, but I would not doubt that my experience would benefit from the new restraints a lot.
I didn't have an issue with the old restraints, but I got some great rides last weekend with the new ones. 2nd to last left wing seat was the place to be. Thanks for the tip! I was surprised that Wildcat's Revenge also had new (or modified) restraints.
@@CanobieCoaster Something else about Skyrush I noted last weekend is that it is, perhaps ironically, the most efficient coaster in the park at handling riders needing accessibility access. The elevator to the load platform provides disabled riders direct access to the last car, and since the load/offload is on the same side, nobody stares or cares.
Great review as always! Do you think there is any chance the lifhill motor will be sped up to its original speed again considering that the restraints are no longer a problem? Cheers! :)
Rode skyrush for the first time last month, the last time i was at hersheypark was 25 yrs prior this ride blew my mind away that kink in the drop threw me out of the seat and the cable lift motor that you can see on the lower pathway was impressive bravo hershey the park looks much better now
I honestly felt little difference between the old and new restraints. The actual pad is angled incorrectly so you don't get the full surface area, and instead just get a super small bar going across your upper thigh.
While I haven’t yet to ride skyrush (with new lap bars) I loved skyrush when they had the old lap bars. Skyrush was one of my all time favorite coasters just because of the out of control feeling. I had no problems with the old restraints . Sure they were tight but the airtime and laterals outweigh the discomfort.
I found theses restraints rachet way more then the old restraint did throughout the ride. I did find though that if you sat in one of the middle seats and used the step up thing in the middle of the train to keep your knee up, you could stop the restraints from ratcheting a little bit This used to be my number one coaster but the new restraints made me drop it to number two. (My number one is now Aire Force)
Me and my friend went to HersheyPark for the first time back in June and Skyrush was a highlight for us. Of course, my favorite in the park is Wildcat's Revenge.
Moving S&S Tower is damn A LOT of work. Maybe could be more wise to sell it to scrap and buy a new one with modern tech and new innovations. I really hope that you get Giant Gyro swing from Intamin, because it is soooo gooood❤
I think I understand why you get a kink of airtime. The first burst of airtime you get is similar to any other ride, you get the whip from being pulled down by the rest of the train. I think the 2nd jolt of airtime comes from the ride reaching the max angle of descent very abruptly, and then immediately pulling out. The airtime goes from being "graceful and smooth" due to the crest, to violent due to the abrupt change of angle. Hope this helps!
I loved Skyrush when I rode it last year, but the restraints in the backrow on a wing seat really crushed my thighs to the point I couldn't wait for the ride to be over. Front row wasn't so bad and allowed me to get a little airtime. I'm 5'11" 200lbs. My friend who rode with me is quite shorter and very thin and he didn't have any issues in front or back row.
Canobie Coaster would say: Skyrush is an Intamin hyper coaster at Hersheypark. For many years, this was a ride that you either loved or hated, there was no in between. Many enthusiasts such as myself praised this ride's raw intensity and out-of-control feeling. This ride's unhinged nature made it unlike any other coaster on the planet. Other enthusiasts and many parkgoers found the experience...
I'll never forget this coaster. On my second ride on the right side wing seat on the back row, that first drop *snapped* by back while riding with my arms up! The forces were so incredible, I couldn't straighten my back to the seat. For sure I thought I had broken my back, but it was only a strain. Unfortunately it was pretty early into a multiple park coaster trip, causing me to skip much of the rougher credits at many parks. No matter the injury this coaster caused me, it is still an INCREDIBLE ride. Would I ride it again? Sure, I'd try the new restraints. Probably wouldn't put my hands up though. 😂
Now that I think about it, I should most likely be able to experience the forces on this. I have a very skinny lower body so I'll probably be able to experience as much airtime if not more. As for the lateral bracing, velocicoaster's outer banked hill made my body almost ragdoll sideways, so the same seats should still allow me to flop around on skyrush. I might try to get to Hershey on a Saturday in September to try them out
I only experienced it with the old restraints but with them it's one of my all time favorite coasters. Absolute love this beast. But now I'm a bit sad they changed my beloved coaster. 😢
I never rode with the old restraints, but I did feel pain with the new ones. They are nowhere near as comfortable as VC. I think the issue is how it tightens during the ride. FYI I have a beer gut but have skinny waist, so warning to those built like me. I was very thankful they still release the restraints early!
You definitely still get stapled with the new ones since they didn't change the locking mech, just the lap bar. The difference is that the contact surface is much larger now so it doesn't really dig into your thighs anymore, just pushes them.
@@wickedsickfunkyfreshroller2037 Those with a gut (and skinny waist/legs) don't get much contact before the ride starts but have way too much after the ride, hence the pain. So new design only helped skinny people and maybe "fully" large people. I know, learn to exercise .
@@CanobieCoaster I'm just thankful they fixed the issue and hopefully VC type seats will be the standard going forward. Now we just gotta get RMC (and maybe a couple others) to perfect their restraints.
For me I found the restraints to be the, same resulting in a very painful ride. I had hernia surgery on both sides about 10+ years ago, this ride really pushes down in those areas in various points of the ride leaving me in a fair amount of pain. I don't run into this on any other coaster. My 12-year son didn't experience any issues, but my 8-year-old did. Talking with others who rode the ride at the sometime, several seem to have had a similar experience to mine, as they were grumbling coming down the exit ramp.
I’m dreading the new seats and restraints… I thoroughly enjoyed raising my hands and letting my body be rag-dolled. Now the ride will be more popular and not as crazy.
As someone who actually no joke, enjoyed the old restraints I do not like how the new ones restrict the forces. It’s still one of the craziest rides ever, but it’s honestly a shell of its former self.
Honestly I agree 100% with you. The ride is still absolutely sick, but something about the new seats + the addition of wildcats revenge made me not really like this ride as much. I definitely can appreciate it not causing as much pain, but it has not been as nearly out of control feeling, no matter how late in the day or hot it is
I may be one of the few people who prefer skyrush in the inner seats. I personally think this coaster is only decent at best, I rode back left wing seat a few weeks back and the train felt like a shopping cart on a New Jersey road
To me the new restraints are a considerable downgrade. It is probably still my number one in the park considering how much I liked it before but Candymonium/Wildcat's Revenge are really close and Phantom's is at the top overall. I even find it less comfortable but I probably just didn't pay any mind to comfort in prior seasons due to the rest of the experience. I haven't much else to note since you described the changes accurately in the review. Do you think it's ranking will considerably change in your top 100?
The new restraints are so much better and actually make it ridable now. The old restraints were triangular shaped and dug into your thighs throughout the entire ride. I have no idea how people can say that they liked the old restraints more. It was actually intolerable, and I would skip riding this coaster altogether just because of how painful of an experience it would be.
It's hard to say the ride is "objectively better" and "subjectively worse" but it definitely is. Moreover, saying it's "subjectively worse" sounds dramatic, but it's not like this is now a BAD ride. It's still very fun, and my second favorite in the park. It just went from a chaotic 10/10 experience to a very enjoyable 9/10. I get why Hersheypark did it, and if it extends the ride's life, then I'm glad they did. But I miss the old ride...
Gotta say, I disagree with what you said about the airtime. I got 0 airtime with the old restraints. I will say the ride does feel a bit less insane with the new lap-bars and is now probably the mildest Intamin in the park, but I’ll take less intensity as long as it makes the ride enjoyable. Also wow! Very surprised to hear you compare Skyrush to i305, in my opinion they’re not even in the same plane of existence. I don’t grey out at any point on Skyrush.
To be clear, I get airtime with both restraints. I just preferred the airtime with the old restraints since (for me at least) my butt would lift in the air even when I was stapled.
It's a bit dissappointing that the ride isn't as wild as it used to be, but at least it still seems like a great ride nonetheless. With the new restraint change to skyrush, how many spots did it drop in your overall rankings?
Used to be my #2 among 60+ rides. Not looking forward to visiting again. It sounds like they took a ride that was the greatest thing for a small contingent of people and replaced it with a ride that's just decent for everyone.
Tbh I don’t care if it gets rid of some of the forces, I’d rather have a more comfortable ride with velocicoaster lap bars then a restraint that crushes your thighs.
Am I the only one whose uh, "area" hurts with the new restraints. Like why is that one piece in the center of the lap bar sticking way down? I prefer the old restraints 100%
I haven't experienced the new restraints, but it's a shame they neutered the forces. It was such a special coaster with insane intensity, and now it's not the same anymore. Very disappointing
The new logo for Skyrush has something in common with the 2012 logo for Disney's California Adventure. They're both extremely bland. The old logos for both looked much better.
I miss the old restraints. I used to feel no discomfort. This used to be my favorite ride in the park. Now, it's a distant second behind Wildcat's Revenge.
4:29 no, no it did not. Sorry but I had to point that out. It did not relieve anything. The new restraints are a god-send. Also, I never had a problem with the old restraints until the brakes, then it felt like my legs would get scissored off.
I never rode with the old restraints but this year I rode 11 times with the new ones, while the drop and first hill/turn are great I must say the ride is overall quite forceless with a lot of filler track that doesn’t do anything. I tried so hard to love it but it’s just kinda eh. The restraints are great tho. This ride hardly even makes it in my top 50
When I was in basic training for the army I got smoked for goofing around during a medic class. They made me run a mile with a tourniquet on my left leg. Every time I rode old Skyrush I would think about this experience, as the old restraints felt exactly like that tourniquet.
@@toxikavenger9088 my thighs felt like being punctured by needles on those ejector moments. If you liked the old ones, good for you, but not everyone’s body proportions can be comfortably accommodated with the flat bar they had.
@@SkyrushFanboy I need to find a time to get back to hershey this year and see how the new restraints are for skyrush. I'm thinking of coming up for a concert next month as an excuse to justify coming back depending on money. especially i did just do kennywood last weekend though
Now I've only rode Skyrush in 2024, but I find it crazy how people think this is one of the most intense coasters on the planet, yet me and my son think it's one of the most boring rides at the park. We ride it each time we go, and every time, I'm underwhelmed. My favorite part of the whole thing is how fast the cable lift is.

I tried holding the restraint on one ride, but the Gs on the pullout are too strong.
Completely agree with all your points in the video. Nice hanging out with you!

Skyrush is an Intamin hyper coaster at Hersheypark.
Too much
I'll never forget this coaster.
This ride would ragdoll you with the old restraints!
Haven’t watched the video yet, just started, but I kind of wish I got to ride it with the bad restraints because they looked so open and terrifying.
The old restraints were a love it/hate it thing. I liked them.
I might try to get to Hershey on a Saturday in September to try them out
Hope you can try it and get a wild ride.
I only experienced it with the old restraints but with them it's one of my all time favorite coasters. Absolute love this beast. But now I'm a bit sad they changed my beloved coaster. 😢
I get why it was changed, but it is a bummer if you liked the old experience.
I never rode with the old restraints, but I did feel pain with the new ones. They are nowhere near as comfortable as VC. I think the issue is how it tightens during the ride. FYI I have a beer gut but have skinny waist, so warning to those built like me. I was very thankful they still release the restraints early!
That was exactly my problem. I LOVED it with the old restraints, it was my number 1 overall. Not impressed so far with the new ones.
I know, learn to exercise
.
Yeah they don't have any upward give like other new Intamins unfortunately.
Even with the new restraints? You're the first person I've heard to have trouble with them.
I’m dreading the new seats and restraints… I thoroughly enjoyed raising my hands and letting my body be rag-dolled. Now the ride will be more popular and not as crazy.
You aren't ragdolled as much, but it is still wild.
As someone who actually no joke, enjoyed the old restraints I do not like how the new ones restrict the forces. It’s still one of the craziest rides ever, but it’s honestly a shell of its former self.
It's still an excellent ride, even if it's not quite as crazy. It's definitely more comfortable and I get why it was done.
@@gravitythrills5414 No
This is a ridiculous statement, it was unrideable with the old restraints
@@rparqernah i found em super comfy. there was a trick you could do that could save your legs that doesnt work on the new restraints
@@xoanone if you need a trick to make restraints good then they aren't good by default
Honestly I agree 100% with you. The ride is still absolutely sick, but something about the new seats + the addition of wildcats revenge made me not really like this ride as much. I definitely can appreciate it not causing as much pain, but it has not been as nearly out of control feeling, no matter how late in the day or hot it is
I preferred Skyrush to Wildcat last year, but that flipped this year.
@@CanobieCoaster yep same here
I may be one of the few people who prefer skyrush in the inner seats. I personally think this coaster is only decent at best, I rode back left wing seat a few weeks back and the train felt like a shopping cart on a New Jersey road
It rattles on the turns, but I don't find it uncomfortable.
I've never been on Skyrush but I do operate it occasionally. Most guests seem to like the new restraints
Seemed to be the concensus. Glad the upgrade is well-received!
It moved down for me, but it's still a fantastic ride.
I agree it removes the comfort issues.
It's more universally liked now and people aren't in pain.
Is there any reason why the ride uses Square Supports? Other Intamin from this time also seem to use them
I am not sure.
I’m watching this as I stand in line for Skyrush
Have fun!
I have heard Skyrush has a track alignment issue towards the bottom causing the 2 burst of airtime
I like how it worked out then.
I personally preferred the front on this coaster because Skyrush in the back row was way too aggressive for my liking
I like that aggression.
It's a bit dissappointing that the ride isn't as wild as it used to be, but at least it still seems like a great ride nonetheless. With the new restraint change to skyrush, how many spots did it drop in your overall rankings?
Quite a few spots. It's more of a borderline top 25 steel coaster now versus a contender for my top 10.
intense
It is
I seriously doubt this will happen but is there a way they could have the bar not staple during the ride similar to Velocicoaster?
I doubt it will be modified. Most guests like Skyrush now, which is what Hersheypark was aiming for.
I haven't been on this one yet, but I'm concerned that low turn might knock me out (or at least come very close), the same way P305 does…
It isn't as strong as that turn, but it is intense.
Update: I just got off of Skyrush twice, and I am happy to say the restraints don't hinder the forces for me. Still my number 1 coaster
Awesome!
Would you recommend Skyrush to people who are 10-15 years old
Yes if they like thrill rides.
@@CanobieCoaster Ok! Thanks
They need to do a Rush overlay (the band that is) and have it be flight 2112.
Not familiar with that band.
Do you like Laff Trakk
It's fine. I hate waiting for it.
EPIC
The ride is.
great
Thanks!
I still prefer Candymonium and Wildcats Revenge. Candy is better because of length and Wildcats Revenge has more variety of airtime
Wildcat is my new favorite there.
Used to be my #2 among 60+ rides. Not looking forward to visiting again. It sounds like they took a ride that was the greatest thing for a small contingent of people and replaced it with a ride that's just decent for everyone.
I'd say it's more than decent for most. Most people find it excellent now.
When this video was first released, there were: subtitles (Inglés: generados automáticamente). Now there are subtitles (Inglés). So why?
I uploaded my own subtitles in English.
Tbh I don’t care if it gets rid of some of the forces, I’d rather have a more comfortable ride with velocicoaster lap bars then a restraint that crushes your thighs.
It definitely is more comfortable.
Nah that first drop on skyrush is something different!
It's amazing.
When you go over the lift hill, if the restraints weren't there, I thought I would end up in the parking lot a half a mile away.
The airtime is powerful!
DO A BARREL ROLL!
I wish.
Am I the only one whose uh, "area" hurts with the new restraints. Like why is that one piece in the center of the lap bar sticking way down? I prefer the old restraints 100%
That happened on one of my rides, but no others.
At least they still have a world class roller coaster in Wildcats Revenge
This is still an excellent ride for me, even if it isn't quite as wild.
@@CanobieCoaster world class or no?
I haven't experienced the new restraints, but it's a shame they neutered the forces. It was such a special coaster with insane intensity, and now it's not the same anymore. Very disappointing
The forces are the same. How you experienced them changed. You don't have the same horizontal or vertical movement now.
The new logo for Skyrush has something in common with the 2012 logo for Disney's California Adventure. They're both extremely bland. The old logos for both looked much better.
I agree.
I waited 3 hours for Wildcats Revenge and it was worth it but not with all the break downs
It has fairly good reliability for me.
@@CanobieCoaster the ride broke down 2 times 3 minutes apart but it pushes it back and I got a lights out ride and it felt to fast
A 23 min video for a coaster you’ve already reviewed lol
The restraints change the ride quite a bit, so I thought this was warranted.
I miss the old restraints. I used to feel no discomfort. This used to be my favorite ride in the park. Now, it's a distant second behind Wildcat's Revenge.
I miss them too, but understand why it was done.
W
Enjoy!
its my birthday
Happy birthday!
Candymouim is way better. so is wildcat revenge, storm runner and Fahrenheit
This is 2nd in the park for me now.
4:29 no, no it did not. Sorry but I had to point that out. It did not relieve anything. The new restraints are a god-send. Also, I never had a problem with the old restraints until the brakes, then it felt like my legs would get scissored off.
I said that was done in an attempt, but it wasn't a full cure. Glad the ride is more bearable for most now.
"forceless" is an insane thing to say
@@rparqer like I said the first 3 elements are insane and incredibly forceful, the rest of the ride is forceless, at least from my rides
It has force still, but you don't get the same horizontal and vertical movement.
The restraints really weren't that bad. People like complaining about pretty much anything
Delusion
Exactly! Just wimps!
It's still an excellent ride, but the old restraints and seats had you so exposed. That's a big factor why it was so intense.
Rmc restraints are worse then skyrushs old restraints
I don't mind either.
I find the colour scheme and theme to be really ugly.
I like how vibrant the yellow is myself.
Im not sure how it fits the chocolate them.
They ruined this ride. I have no desire to ever ride it again.
It's still excellent, but it is less unhinged.
Thighcrush -> Stomachcrush. Pain 80%, Breathing 50%, Retheme Great.
I find it comfortable now.
