  • Hershey Park just announced their new roller coaster for 2020, Candymonium! Candymonium will be the park's SECOND hyper roller coaster following the addition of Skyrush in 2012. Did the park choose the right attraction? Watch this video to see what I think about the situation and be sure to comment down below your thoughts on the situation.

    6:40 exactly. people need to realize that if a park isnt adding what you want them to add, there is probably a reason.

      And, even still, what the park adds is up to them, not us. So, all the enthusiasts can bitch all they want, but its not going to get them anywhere and its not going to make the park change their mind

    Idk why people care that it’s 2 hypers. They provide completely different experiences. That’s like complaining that Kennywood has steel curtain and Phantoms revenge because they’re both technically hypers. Or that cedar point has magnum and Steve. Who cares??? It’s about the experience on the ride, not the height being between 200-299.

    It's also more of a 'foundation' coaster or a staple coaster. It ties in the ChocolateTown area and helps the park become synonymous with their coasters, flats and candy.

    • @dchang11
      @dchang11 4 года назад +3

      It kind of reminds me of Gatekeeper at Cedar Point. Both rides serves its purpose to be synonymous with their parks, Hershey with candy and Cedar Point with lakefront thrills. The coaster has to be iconic and welcoming, but also friendly to parkgoers. We could see a lot of families ride this coaster.

It's way faster pace, features a very different layout, and is about far more intense airtime and transitions than most. They could easily boost the reputation of the ride by switching them out, which Intamin has shown they are able to do with the hard over-the-shoulder restraints. Admittedly I'm not exactly what I'd call a full blown roller coaster enthusiast per say, but as someone that has been to Hershey Park quite a few times, I think that this was a good move on their part. Skyrush is definitely a well designed coaster, but even disregarding the intensity of the ride, which I'll fully admit to being something others would consider a perk, my other biggest gripe about it is how *short* the ride is, especially compared to the lines it tends to attract. Because of that, I've always liked Great Bear and Fahrenheit a lot more. Candymonium at least seems to be a lot more like what I'm looking for in a coaster.

    Dude one of these days I'm making stop riding your piece so hard, but until then, the flowers continue.
    You are sooo fuckin smart! I compare your take on this subject compared to CS, and you just blow him out of the water with your intricate descript of this project. It's just always broken down in a manner that the slowest (myself) of the slow leaves the vid feeling informed and smart as fuck! Man you really have a future in this shit, so DON'T FUCK IT UP!

    In 2019, i went to hershey with my daughter then 7 years old and went on mostly family rides, but towards the end, i was itching to get on a larger coaster, so i left my husbad and daughter to ride sky rush bc it was right in front of me and i was like oh a nice hyper ride. I went front row and was waiting for it to start when the ppl next to me told me i better remove my glasses. I was confused bc i knew it didnt go upside down or anything. They were like this ride is intense. How intense could a ride like this be i thought. Haha.

    Skyrush is kind of like I305 taken to the next level even though it's only a hyper. I found a decent contrast even between the 2 big B&Ms at Carowinds. This is more like Skyrush crossed with Fury than I232 though.

    I go to Hersheypark a lot and I love skyrush but I. Kinda hate how hammered you get on the ride Especially at the end but they fix this in the year of 2019 where they made it so the thy bars release pressure by about an inch but I’m still excited for the new ride

    So *technically* this is and is not true;
    Derry Township has to approve all structures, and during the development of this Derry Township officials were getting NUMEROUS complaints about traffic - adding a giga would only draw more people and create more traffic issues. Source - am resident of Harrisburg, I am involved in politics in my county (which Derry Township resides in), and I've lived in Hershey once as well as worked at the park.
    Derry Township is considered "Rural" in the state - and considering during concerts traffic in the entire town of Hershey, Harrisburg, Palmyra, etc. comes to a complete grinding hault, I can see why Derry Township refused to allow a Giga - only to draw even more people. I can distinctly remember "concert days" while working at the park, where employees would literally sit by their cars and talk after the park closed for 20-30+ minutes to allow the concert goers to get home. Derry Township is also one of the few Rural townships to have quite the contingent of "crowd control" in their police force - again solely for Hersheypark and Concerts.
    Hersheypark is 1 piece of the whole puzzle. You have Hersheypark Stadium for outdoor concerts, Giant Center for concerts, conventions, etc., and you have Hershey's Hotel, Lodge, the finest hospital in the world (which you also have to consider air traffic - PennState Milton Hershey Medical Center has a FLEET of custom built French medical helicopters called 'Life Lion' that are very expensive and a sense of pride in the area to consider), and the closest highway (I83/i81) are accessible *ONLY* be either the 4-lane 322 that has 3 traffic lights on the highway before you reach the interstates or the two-lane county road that has numerous traffic lights, numerous driveways of residents, etc.
    Hershey isn't necessarily connected to highways like Kings Dominion, Six Flags Great Adventure, etc.
    Hershey sits in rural PA - sure it's not "Rural" anymore but the infrastructure sure is, and much of that belongs to the State, which if you think they're going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars upgrading the infrastructure for an amusement park (which by the way Pennsylvania has numerous parks), you really don't know Government ;)
    Candymonium should have been a giga - it would have met all the zoning requirements to be a giga, it was built outside the normal flight patterns of Life Lion (unlike Skyrush and Storm Runner), it would have been 100% covered by the park, and it would've been great - great of course, until you add in the traffic and locals. Don't get me wrong - locals *love* hersheypark, many kids start their employments there, many a locals own season passes, but none of the locals like the traffic that comes along with the locals, and sometimes locals also don't like the riff raft that comes with living near a world class amusement park.
