Matt knows how to give you guys dramas! big rebuild but worth it, I owned a 1992 200tdi and 3.5 1988, plenty of buyers out there including myself for a decent mk1 Range Rover

Bearing in mind the high prices these can fetch when in good condition , if Matt says it's worthwhile spending the money then it's definitely worth doing
It's not one of the really desirable models but classic range rovers are getting more rare on the whole so worth saving
Guys, while the car doesn’t have air suspension (you mentioned about levelling) there is a self levelling unit at the rear a-frame which mates body to chassis, they are obsolete and about £1500 for a reman unit. Will have a floppy back end when loaded up if it’s gone

Lads as per my comment a couple of weeks ago about this vehicle, it will be worth the effort& you will be surprised how lovely it will be to drive
You can't beat an old Rangey.....a couple of replacement panels (check rear inner wheel arches) inside rear doors would be my tip as mine went there.
Trust me you will love this when it's done.

Hello again stu, it's had new inner panels where the doors open, it's had loads of welding tbh, once we get it all bazzed back and undersealed/stonechipped ill be more positive about it ha ha 😂

I saw the National Trust sticker, so I'm sure its been well looked after. I am amazed that it moved at all and wasnt seized up, and that the chassis was as good as it was. Time to massively overspend on parts, becuase it will be worth it
Yeah we were shocked about it moving that easy too! We'll see what his bill comes to ha ha

I had to laugh, your mate is nearly blinded staggering round the garage looking for a Labrador and you two are jibber jabbering sills and rust proofing! I think this is going to be great, really satisfying once you start de-rusting it, you’ve already been pleasantly surprised by how solid most of it is…. I can’t wait to see you both tear through this!! Good luck 😊

This definitely goes into the "Ambitious" or "Hopeful" category. Although the underside definitely isn't as bad as expected. The big one will be how much is missing, because it's always those lots of little costs that do a project in.

Great video, better than i was expecting, sure, some bits are hard to come by like decent rear tailgate etc but as said in the video, much of this is labour. i'll wager the v8 is sound, gearbox and transfer box, could go either way
Thanks, the tailgate seems to be decent, we have a replacement door for the off side rear and have both wings and quarters in the back, there is a couple of oil leaks around the gearbox and transfer case but hopefully thats just seals or pipes that can easily be replaced 👍
@@TransformotionVR sounds good👍 is the boge strut still fitted and working? Reliable but they can leak. Fire up the gearbox with a new filter and fingers crossed!! If you've got leaks then you've got pressure at least 🤭
I couldn't tell you mate, it's not been fired up for a while! If the box is leaking oil we know its got oil in ha ha 🤣
I spent some time in the JLR facility where they restore these. Seeing panels made by hand to OE drawings and the general workmanship was amazing. As is the cost of the finished cars…..
I can only imagine how much they were after being factory restored!! 😬😬

@TransformotionVR it's one of those cars I just cannot let go yet. Had it since 2007. Been off road 3 years still starts and drives but the sills are probably the same as this Range rover 😢. Too scared of the bill if i put it in a garage.

Now I'm seeing it underneath for the first time, I'm sticking to my guns on this one. Too much bother, it'll be a money pit waiting to grow. Yeah, it doesn't look as bad but you'll start taking things apart and more problems will raise their heads. But Matt wants it done!

You missed most of the spots where Range Rover Classics rust. If the underside is rusty then the body frame under the aluminium panes will be very rusty. If you want more info on what to look for or parts contact Church House Classics who is a RRC specialist. He also has a You Tube channel which you might find interesting.
All the welding had been done previously, so all the inner arches were OK, just needs a few more bits now ha ha

Some places used to paint the gearbox casings when they reconditioned a box so that's why it's painted.

@@TransformotionVR was a thing probably before your time. I also just remembered that British Leyland used to recondition engines and the block was painted silver or gold denoting the level of reconditioning. Ah memories eh!

It's quite a good idea that but you'd just get idiots painting there engine to say it'd been rebuilt these day ha ha thanks mate the panel gaps on the newer RR's are still shifty these days
@@TransformotionVR oh I know all about Range Rovers from the past and present. I recently had to strip and refit a SVR that was hit in the front and had the whole n/s ripped out. Build quality and fit and finish that would make a stone age man chuckle.

I can't see this "Restoration" project in 30yrs for a Tesla model X. 😅. Personally, i think the future is giving old classics a new lease of life, ( I'm not a great lover of Jagwarrrrr/Land rover) so, im in the "why not" camp. Good luck lads 👍. Ps. You need a H+S meeting ( safety glasses etc 😂😂😂😂)
We're not gonna call this one a restoration, more of a "get it back on the road" type of build ha ha imagine if this was a tesla....the battery would definitely need replacing ha ha yeah not a big fan of H+S to a certain degree anyway

As a mid 50’s man who has grown up in the trade ‘ I and a few friends that watched with me find this stages and cringy . Maybe it’s an age thing’ or maybe it’s lack of knowledge 🤔, obviously we will wait to see the next, and hopefully you don’t try to copy others on here
