To everyone here - THANK YOU! Just FYI on a couple of the questions and observations; The car was bought new by my uncle in 1991 and yes it lived by the sea, travelled on ferries often and made regular family ski trips to the Alps. It is much loved but worked hard and has 210k+ miles under it's belt. My uncle is a conscientious man and I got the car with a bulging box file of history that begins with the brochure and options list. It details every bit of maintenance, and shows that the car missed only two scheduled maintenance intervals. One by 40 miles, the other by 500. All others were carried out early. Over £48k was spent on money no object maintenance in 25 years of ownership before I took over. The car was just under £38k new with many options. The fact the engine has that mileage without major rebuild is testament to how well it was looked after. The trouble was the people contracted to upkeep the bodywork weren't doing a proper job, unbeknownst to my uncle. Regarding brakes, suspension and general mechanics; the calipers and discs were new just months before I started, they just look tarnished after three years lying up, the car brakes like a modern. The shocks and springs too look a little scruffy but again weren't on the car long. In short it drives tight and even the steering box is almost free of play for a Land Rover. Later in the video I cut out floor sections, and pull back welds that I had already repaired, this was to rectify poor welding that I identified having gained experience. Yes I used a €99 gasless welder from the supermarket. That's all I had, and no money. I didn't do a frame off resto because it took me completely by surprise, it was supposed to be a two month turn around for a quick fix, but the deeper I dug, the worse it was. There were many times I thought 'this is nuts, scrap it' but I wanted to prove what can be done with a determination and passion. Plus there's a Lotus Esprit on the channel that I want to restore to perfection, so I treated the Range Rover as a skills building jigsaw. Practice. I'd recommend that mindset to anyone who has always wanted to do their own car resto. If you want it bad enough you can make it happen! I worked on this full time, and it's just me. The video production work in the project was like a day job, soaking up hours and getting in the way. This Range Rover is dear to me and the family, but no one is under any illusions, the job I did is far from perfect, it wasn't financially viable [but I wouldn't have farmed out the work if I'd had the funds]. What I learned is as rewarding and enjoyable as being able to drive the car. I fully expect to do a body off restoration on it later. But not before I enjoy it for a few years first ;) Thanks again! The other episodes explain the process and the average guy with no budget ethos of the build, and if you're into more, sub and catch up on the Lotus Esprit project. That's shaping up to be special. This project was funded by patron support only, you'd be surprised by how little it cost overall once you are determined to do the work yourself and make anything you can rather than buying. Any support you can give for the channel, whether it's a like/share/sub/turning on notifications/buying a tshirt, or direct financial support, will make a big difference and can be lent here: www.georgekarellas.com
I admire your persistence, I know very well range rovers and I'd have sent it to the junk yard with that level of rust. Removing the roof ... Crazy! But kudos for such a great work and filming it all the way!
I may be a bit stupid about this but if you remove the top sheet and find corrosion on underlying structure doesn't it stand to reason that probably a lot of the underlying structure is corroded as well? Why then only treat the visible area and not disassemble all of it? Looks to me this will corrode pretty quickly again from within. I get that this wasn’t your plan but you already invested so much time and effort it seems a bit odd to then cut short. Anyway great video looking foward to that Esprit.
Please pin your comment or add it to the description ... this explains why have you gone about fixing the Range Rover in this way. I commend you on the work done for both, the restoration and the video.

I cant be sure that everyone watching this can appreciate just how much work has gone into the stop motion side of filming this. The guy has literally created over an hour of stop motion video while restoring the vehicle at the same time. The restoration is a massive project on its own but to combine it with one of the most time consuming filming techniques known to man is quite simply god like. How anyone can down rate this is beyond my comprehension of how people function . Not only do you have to set the camera into position but you have to set your shot up, compose it, make sure the dust has settled in-between shots, make sure the lighting is right and then edit the whole thing. Thank you for uploading this !
Dude i think George was telling me he had over 7 hours of stop motion footage of this resto !! whittled down into just over an hour for ease of watching. Insanity !! man has patience of a god !

Im now 50% through the restoration thanks to you. Keep up the amazing work, you're an inspiration to thousands and thousands of people

I bet he did a better job at building that thing than the people at Land Rover! They're great off road vehicles but people tell me the quality is absolutely SHITTY, probably the worst of any major brand. Even the crew at Top Gear bashed it for its amazingly low quality and legendary bad reliability. By the way, the Range Rover that Jeremy Clarkson used in the jungle challenge had been souped up so many times that technically, it didn't even have the same engine. That might be why it was reliable. It even had carburetors! The trio couldn't believe it didn't completely break down and Clarkson was quite sure he would be forced to drop out of the challenge.
largol33t1 The early ones did have those SU carburettors though, so those were standard on at least quite a few Range Rovers even if that particular one may have rolled out the factory with the early fuel injecton system (I don’t remember if that was the case, it’s been years...)
I am just staggered at the whole video. Not only have you performed major, major intricate brain surgery on a very poorly Range Rover but you have also created an epic pain staking video in the process. You my man have the patience of a saint and the skills to match. I have never seen anything like it before you are a restoration God, and I thank you for making me realise nothing is beyond repair!!!
Right? Because the restoration wouldn't be hard enough apparently. Had to add stop motion welding to it and making it entirely possible he's mostly invisible. Seen a lot of car resto videos. Never seen one like this.
I'm not sure what I was more impressed by: the amount of hidden rust, the incredible effort put into saving this classic, or the extremely cool footage. Amazing job and video!
I've been on the internet since 1982 (it wasn't called that then of course). You won it. If you don't get the Oscar for this then I'm never watching that show again.
I just spent 90 minutes mesmerized by this video, and I wouldn’t ask for a second of it back. This was pure joy, through and through. Generations from now, when we have machines to assemble and repair everything we want from atoms, this video will occupy an honored position next to the Mona Lisa as an example of timeless art. When I first saw the stop motion, I considered it a gimmick; a clever and entertaining one, but an indulgence nonetheless. But as I watched further, I realized it was also an extremely efficient and high-bandwidth way to visualize a tedious and time-consuming volume of work in perhaps the best way possible. It solves the perennial problem of filming in tight and constrained spaces - no extraneous human to block the view and the light. Seeing a whole row of nuts unscrew themselves was so immeasurably satisfying - much more than watching a pair of hands endlessly twisting a ratchet. So with the rest of the video - nary a buttcrack in sight. This was a masterwork. It deserves an Emmy and an Oscar; and if RUclips even thinks of demonetizing it we should all converge on their headquarters, lift it on our shoulders, and deposit it in the Pacific Ocean.
The video production by itself is more work than 99.99% of people would even try to do. Leave alone the subject matter. The amount of time patience and alone time needed to do this will earn me a divorce!
Having made a short film before I know just how many hundreds and hundreds of hours this masterpiece of a film will have taken to light, film and edit. Absolutely amazing, not only the motor repair skills ,time and patience, attention to detail and of course the gorgeous end result but the sheer quality of the filmography. Completely in awe ! Would love to know if shes still running.
This was honestly incredible and *INFURIATING* to watch. Rust. Every layer of the car just made of holes and aggravation, and I am so impressed that you worked for three years to bring this family car back from the brink. To use the meme; you are a man of focus, commitment and sheer fucking will.
its absolutely insane how much work you have put into both the rover and the video with the stop motion style. one of the best videoes i've ever watched
Same here. Must think that without the shooting it might have taken about 6 months less to restore though... but respect and gratefulness for sharing!!! Stunning job! And the RR is a BEAUTY!!!
This is one of the most serious restoration work I´ve ever seen. Besides the camera work, of course. The detail and the effort is definitely unique. Not one single point of comparison with "restorers" all over the internet. Standing ovation, dude.
You have to admit the biggest "sin" of most RUclipsrs is over-talking. Over-explaining and trying to say the same thing seven different ways while accounting for absolutely every possibility and correcting themselves needlessly when they make blanket statements that are accurate for the specific scenario they were describing.
When I opened it in RUclips and saw 1 hour 28 minutes I thought to myself "OK- let's give it a few minutes to see if I can endure it." Spotting the Meath registration early intrigued (!) and then...BAM! What followed was masterful- the context setting with the 'layer after layer' of rust and decay; the painstaking disassembly; the way that cardboard cutouts were transmogrified into intricate metal shapes (I can only imagine the satisfaction when 'the piece fitted'); the spot welds and polishing; those 'tools magically walking across the workshop floor' to remind me of the kid buried somewhere within me! An astounding labour of love to save the vehicle. And the video- a highly professional work of art. Meticulously filmed, perfect lighting, the extremely well constructed 'morphing effects', artistically edited and topped off with a superbly suitable soundtrack.
I finally sat down through the entire thing and I enjoyed every second of it. Thank you for this it’s so refreshing and such an inspiration. This is what RUclips needs. More quality content like this
I'm about one hour in and the rust won't end. I started as enthusiastic as you did and I'm extremely happy I can now judge the scope of such a project.
I don't know how you kept from going crazy. As the video went on, I was beginning to get more and more frustrated every time you found more rust, and more rust, and more rust. The video is truly amazing. I mean if they had annual awards for best videos, this would have to be included.
@stephen john gray He admits others will say they can weld better (but I doubt it) so your point was exactly? And of course you could do better. Whatever Pal. People like you who get on YT just to slag off others who have made excellent videos recording hundreds of hours of detailed work need need to go find a life. Or better still make their own videos rather than have an empty channel. But then that fits with the empty head. Oh and by the way there is no such things as 'gasless' arc welding. Just different ways to create the gas around the weld - with a separate bottle feeding gas through the outside of the wire or self fluxing wire that creates the gas as it burns. Oh wait you didn't know that?
the sheer amount of work that went into making this video, to say nothing of the restoration itself, deserves more appreciation than can ever be expressed by a "like" and a comment.
This Video was the reason I took the decision to buy an old range classic one year ago. Stripped it down completely. I will pick up the parts this week from the paintshop. This video reminded me of what was possible and that one should just always focus on the good stuff and not the hurdles. Thank you!
I am currently restoring a Disco 1 and until I saw your video. I thought that I was on the cutting edge. I take a knee and bow to your superior effort. Hell, I'm impresssed.
lol, I know exactly how you mean, I get that sting ALL the time. I find it fades though and the will to up the game remains. Thanks a mill man and good luck with the D1
whom ever did NOT like this video 3.8K has no patience what so ever and does not realize the time and work that is put into this video. MUCH respect to the lost art of stop motion. and MAD respect to Soup Classic Motion for these vids.
This video must have taken you an unbelievable amount of time to complete, I can't begin to comprehend the amount of effort that has been put into creating this video. You'll be a 1m+ youtuber in no time with content like this!
I just watched this in one sitting. I rarely have patience for watching RUclips videos without hovering over the forward button and pressing repeatedly. But not this time. A perfect way to unwind. Thank you for this and making a car nut relax for a change. And no graunching guitar music!! What a difference that really makes. Wonderful, beautiful art.
Incredible... Your determination to chase the rot and do the right thing here AND document everything in this way, is simply mind-blowing. I know just a few years ago folks encountering this much damage would have written the car off. Thank goodness they're now being appreciated for the icons that they truly are. Love your documentary, happily gripped as we work through your project.
When I first watched this I thought, nearly one and a half hours, wow, will I see it through? I was mesmerised from start to finish and I will watch it again, just not today. Every petrolhead needs to see this, and you George deserve at the very least an award for the film making!
10/10 one of the best videos on car rebuilding. The work itself and the footage/editing are just top notch. If I may make a suggestion - for a project like this the one and half hour video is too long for the work you've done so I suggest breaking it into 30-minute clips to increase the video views/likes/comments/shares. You deserve all that money.
That's where the smart money is, but then there's no guarantee a three or four parter will get the same attention as the full feature. Thanks for the support and kind words Alan
@@Haryel1987 You don't understand what I am talking about. A 1-hour video with a million views will make just half of the money that two 30-minute videos with a million views each will make.
@@toomaskotkas4467 What money? I haven’t seen an ad on RUclips in years. Adblock for RUclips is helping to return the medium to its roots; sharing our content without trying to make a career out of it. Those RUclipsrs who still seek cash from their audience have Patreon accounts.

The fact you did all the work and this crazy recording - stop motion thingybob is wild! Wild in all the right ways. Thank you so much!
This is beautiful! When my boyfriend told me he watched an hour-thirty video of a car restoration I turned my nose up - but this is truly a work of art.
George - a phenomenal achievement - not just the car but the amazing filmmaking. So glad to have you back - and to return with such a barnstormer! Fantastic
OMFG! I am completely blown away by your tenacity, this is absolutely extraordinary! Most people would not dream of taking on such a job because that Range Rover was in terrible condition. This is hands down the best restoration video I have ever seen - and the music, ooh, just beautiful! I was wondering how the video was made but when when I learned you actually stitched together individual still photographs I was even more in awe! Your work is amazing, I salute you dear friend. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
The craftsmanship, the welding is out of this world. And then the video editing skills. This is the best car restoration video I've ever seen. I'm so glad that I was recommended this video!
That's exactly what I thought...it's like "will the rot and rust never end?...you need to give up!". But the car has a lot of sentimental value. Plus all the time he took with the editing of the video..simply amazing.
Maaaaate, you have earned the title of “DOCTOR “ because of your PATIENTS in this resto and the filming, should enter it in CAIRNS film festival, standing ovation. You made my day, thank you, from the land down under, where the red earth meets the blue sea.
I agree Chris L. I wish people looked for things like that. A little creativity goes a long way.. Since it's become so easy to play producer, director of photography 1st Assistant Director, production designer, props etc etc... yes I am a photographer, film or digitally taken... I'll shut up
This is a master class in what good content is on RUclips. The amount of time and skill it takes to not only film and edit these videos, but tackle these jobs is amazing.
This was one of the finest videos I've ever watched. Loved that you showed little mistakes such as unbolting and adding a washer you forgot as all of us experience that on every build. I was so happy to see you get that windscreen out in one piece (that's the hard part right?) and heartbroken when it cracked on installation. As a Rover enthusiast and shade tree mechanic words alone can't express how much I appreciate this video so I'm off to Patreon to give you my financial support. Keep doing what you love and sharing it with the world!
This was a labor of love. Nothing else can explain all the work put into this. Anyone else would have junked the car. Very enjoyable to watch from the camera work (cinematography?) to the ingenuity to the determination to the finished car.
I really can't comprehend why someone would dislike such a beautifully crafted video (and car!). Seriously, what is it that offset you so much to give a thumb down. The only thing I can imagine is jealousy or that they missed the thumbs up and hit the thumbs down instead, not realizing their mistake...
I'd rather sit on death row in 23 hour lockdown and finger paint with my feces than waste my precious time restoring a junkwagon. Even Jay Leno would laugh at this absurd use of resources.
@@TasteMyStinkholeAndLikeIt The amount of passion, dedication, and perseverance this man possesses is something that YOU may never understand. This must have been a pain doing it normally, but spending that extra time to make it stop motion as well? I give you mad props man.
its absolutely insane how much work you have put into both the rover and the video with the stop motion style. one of the best videoes i've ever watched
Me too
Same here. Must think that without the shooting it might have taken about 6 months less to restore though... but respect and gratefulness for sharing!!! Stunning job! And the RR is a BEAUTY!!!
This Video is a work of industrial art!! Bravo!!
This is one of the most serious restoration work I´ve ever seen. Besides the camera work, of course. The detail and the effort is definitely unique. Not one single point of comparison with "restorers" all over the internet.
Standing ovation, dude.
Range Rover is Hebrew for rotten egg.
*Other RUclipsrs should learn from this guy. We don't need to listen to their constant bleating or even see any of their body parts.*
Guilty 😅[except for the body parts]
Not a single 'OK GUYS' gets right on my last nerve.
@@anth2154 "What's up, guys, remember to like and subscribe, and hit the little bell to get notifications"
Um, a lot of that 'bleating' is detailed explanation of processes. This was entertaining, but not particularly educational.
At this moment, i really miss my dad. So much
There is no way he did this with stop motion. The only reasonable explanation is he is invisible.
the word you're looking for is immortal
I had the same thought. Its way too much effort!
But that would mean his tools are too. What kind of mad socery is this? : O
thats what i think too
Please explain your magic technique for motion!
There is no word to describe how good this video is. That determination and craftmanship not to mention the filming. Respect👍
I finally sat down through the entire thing and I enjoyed every second of it. Thank you for this it’s so refreshing and such an inspiration. This is what RUclips needs. More quality content like this
amen
I don't know what I am more in awe of: your skill as a car restorer or your skill as a film maker. Absolutely mesmerising.
One of the few videos on RUclips that are pure gold ❤️
I'm one minute in, and this is brilliant! I'm about to rebuild a RRC myself!
I'm about one hour in and the rust won't end. I started as enthusiastic as you did and I'm extremely happy I can now judge the scope of such a project.
I was wondering if I’d see you over here Andrew!
Surely waiting for your rebuild video series @4xoverland 😄
This is the only hour and a half long RUclips video I've watched from start to end with no skipping. Great job, man!
Same!
I don't know how you kept from going crazy. As the video went on, I was beginning to get more and more frustrated every time you found more rust, and more rust, and more rust.
The video is truly amazing. I mean if they had annual awards for best videos, this would have to be included.
Hands down 'THE BEST RESTORATION VIDEO', this is how every restoration video should be done.
Thank you for such a treat.
Id rather watch this than a money no object build. Keep up the Good work you do. I cant wait to see the Lotus Build finished 😄
Highly respect from Taiwan. This is the best car restoration film on RUclips.
I have never seen a car restoration video filmed this way. Very enjoyable to watch. Great job!!
The amount of time and effort to make this video.....
Thank you!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching!
It gave me a migraine just to witness the pure insanity of this video.
I’m willing to bet this is the only complete stop motion restoration film. Epic. Thank you for giving us this George,
That Sir was a Masterclass in sheet metal working. And the camera work is beyond words ... Total respect ...
"take plenty of photo's when you're working on a project so you know how to put everything back together" *SOUP:* "ok"
😄
Good job! The man who managed to exhaust the entire country of Ireland's supply of welding wire ;-)
LMAO!
Me: Looks to nice to restore...
*few moments later...
Me: Thats the range rover rust we all know and love!
Cardboard is running low!
There's so much welding gone on that it's almost like he's 3D printed a new Range Rover using welding wire. Epic job!
I'm wondering if the Rover now weighs an extra 40 pounds because of all the spot welding...
the sheer amount of work that went into making this video, to say nothing of the restoration itself, deserves more appreciation than can ever be expressed by a "like" and a comment.
I am so impressed with how so much was repaired and re-used, rather than being replaced. SUCH a lot of work, but major kudos, Man!
I am CNC brake press operator and I have to admit that your folding using only hammer and piece of wood is brilliant. Keep up on good work.
Built a 5ft brake in the midst of the project to fold the new load area rails, it's all in the episodes. Thanks for taking the time to comment :)
Bloody hell. That takes some serious dedication to complete, congratulations!
This Video was the reason I took the decision to buy an old range classic one year ago. Stripped it down completely. I will pick up the parts this week from the paintshop. This video reminded me of what was possible and that one should just always focus on the good stuff and not the hurdles. Thank you!
This video reminds me of the reason why RUclips was created. Just amazing, I'm lost for words really, haha.
I rather watch this than any movie on Netflix. Awesome!!!
Truly awesome stuff!

Hell, I'm impresssed.
lol, I know exactly how you mean, I get that sting ALL the time. I find it fades though and the will to up the game remains. Thanks a mill man and good luck with the D1
This is the best video about car restoration i`ve ever seen! Thank you for this hard work!
Man, I wish my car was one of these self welding cars...
I can't tell if this is insanity or genius, which means it's almost certainly GENIUS.
Can't get over how much work you've put into this. Not just the vehicle - but to do the stop motion. Mind is blown. Utterly blown.
That car is 30% Range Rover and 70% George Mobile. You Sir, deserve more credit. Great resto!!!
This might well be the greatest RUclips video ever produced.
I agree.
So not only are you an incredibly skilled car restorer but also a brilliant videographer.
whom ever did NOT like this video 3.8K has no patience what so ever and does not realize the time and work that is put into this video. MUCH respect to the lost art of stop motion. and MAD respect to Soup Classic Motion for these vids.
This film deserve to be played in theatres. Wish to see it on a big screen.
I can't believe this video only has 20k views. The level of passion and craft throughout this video is some of the most I've ever seen on this site.
200K
Absolutely stunning. This deserves to be a youtube classic. Art meets function. Well done.
Wow, seeing it all together is a reminder of how much blood, sweat and tears has gone into this! Lovely to see it come together.
When I first watched this I thought, nearly one and a half hours, wow, will I see it through?
I was mesmerised from start to finish and I will watch it again, just not today.
Every petrolhead needs to see this, and you George deserve at the very least an award for the film making!
Thanks a mill, glad you got something out of it :)
I would see it even if video lasr 2 hours, great things dont give a damn about time, good things took a huge amount of time
@@Haryel1987 You don't understand what I am talking about.
@@admiralbeez8143 You haven't, I have. And I bet million other people who don't have the Adblock installed because it doesn't allow to visit websites where the ads are mandatory. I am O.K. with some ads, I hate it when there are too many of them.

This is video is art. This would look absolutely at home in any gallery played on a loop. I've never seen anything like it. Mind blowing. Its actually really therapeutic watching it. The fact you did all the work and this crazy recording - stop motion thingybob is wild! Wild in all the right ways. Thank you so much!
Wow, what a refreshing film. I cannot fathom the amount of work just the film work took.
You are one patient dude.
I would've given up just by looking at the amount of rust that you tackled.
Amazing dedication bro.
Respect.
True such Respect, well done Soup
Brilliant. I took about 5 hours of watching this, pausing it to work and eat...just awesome.
That animation style is very Impressive this must off took along time
I truly do not know what is more brilliant: the actual work on this vehicle, or the videography. Excellent work.
The fact you’ve done all this wreck resurrection in stop motion is mind blowing. Wallace and Grommit eat your hearts out.
I’ve had this flagged in my watch later list for a while now. Wish I watched it sooner. What an absolute masterpiece.
You're here now! Thanks for the support and check out the rest :)
Love the way this was filmed. It’s like having a superpower where you can restore a vehicle with your mind. So cool.
This is beautiful! When my boyfriend told me he watched an hour-thirty video of a car restoration I turned my nose up - but this is truly a work of art.
I want to watch this again while I'm high
Then it will last 5 hours - well, the first 15 minutes until you need some chocolate. And then some pizza. And music. And sex.
hahahahahah
I just did. It's fantastic!
Appreciate it man, thanks :)
The craftsmanship, the welding is out of this world. And then the video editing skills. This is the best car restoration video I've ever seen. I'm so glad that I was recommended this video!
Me every 10 mins: "THIS IS INSANE."
That's exactly what I thought...it's like "will the rot and rust never end?...you need to give up!". But the car has a lot of sentimental value. Plus all the time he took with the editing of the video..simply amazing.
That was my whole family
He just shot this with a morph a scope
My literal thoughts word for word
Why don't you say: badass? 😂😂😂😂😂
*This man is a god. There can simply be no other explanation for this.*

Maaaaate, you have earned the title of “DOCTOR “ because of your PATIENTS in this resto and the filming, should enter it in CAIRNS film festival, standing ovation.
You made my day, thank you, from the land down under, where the red earth meets the blue sea.
What a massive accomplishment for both the Range Rover and the filming. I’ll keep an eye out for you on the road 👍

I've rarely seen a RUclips video with cinematography this good! 1 minute in and I can tell this channel is gonna be a good one!

I agree Chris L. I wish people looked for things like that. A little creativity goes a long way.. Since it's become so easy to play producer, director of photography 1st Assistant Director, production designer, props etc etc... yes I am a photographer, film or digitally taken... I'll shut up
Two tremendous jobs, one on the Classic and the other on the filming. Top effort. 👍👍😎😎
This is a master class in what good content is on RUclips. The amount of time and skill it takes to not only film and edit these videos, but tackle these jobs is amazing.
Probably one of the best restoration videos I've ever watched. Well done!
martin kirton it is both a massive warning to potential Range Rover buyers AND an inspiring work of restoration
I could sit and sob at how beautiful this video is.
JESUS YOU HAVE THE PATIENCE OF A SAINT !!!!! Bravo sir
I really can't comprehend why someone would dislike such a beautifully crafted video (and car!). Seriously, what is it that offset you so much to give a thumb down. The only thing I can imagine is jealousy or that they missed the thumbs up and hit the thumbs down instead, not realizing their mistake...
AvTechEng I’m thinking it’s gotta be fat fingers hitting the wrong button. Video was well done
