The furniture and accessories we have purchased over 8 years in Asia have been EXTREMELY durable and are timeless in design and function. I have worked at ikea and I am also Swedish. Funny that you mentioned that the staff often stays on the side. In Sweden, most people do not like salespeople who are too much in your face. We want to be left alone as much as possible. The names of the Ikea furniture have different meanings. Godmorgon (the sink cabinet) for example means good morning and söderhamn is a Swedish city (most couches are named after citys).

Most of their products come from overseas. Also many stores were selling through click and collect and on-line. They sold much of their stock at that time and had a hard time restocking because no shipping because borders are closed. They are slowly trying to refill stock. And don't bother looking for kids desks and tables from anywhere. Most kids will not be going to school this year. Those things have been sold as they restock.

One secret I learned just a few weeks ago...some of their furniture pieces or doors are only available for shipping or local delivery. The delivery to my home is $129.00 for a piece that costs $60.00. So I asked if I can go pick up the piece from their warehouse from where the origin of the delivery would be. That was possible and cost me only the gas to go there, approximately 15 minutes further from the store itself. Only thing they didn’t tell me is that they are only open until 2 pm, and one HAS to wait for the call that the piece arrived to the warehouse. Asking is the key, as the sales person really wanted me to pay the delivery fee.
I love to walk both levels in Ikea. It helps me get to my 5,000 steps in an air conditioned environment and I usually always come out with something I need....or want!! Miss not being able to stop for coffee and a snack. Hopefully one day soon!
Tip # 1: THANK YOU!!! 🤗 I LOVE walking thru the whole store, but we've only ever been to Ikea a handful of times bc my husband hates how long it takes (he says it feels like "getting lost in the fallopian tubes" 🤣😂 so that's what we call it now LOL)
Enjoyed your video. Just wanted to add an extra item in working with the floor sales associates as they can break down items into components. In my case I wanted to buy a sleeper sofa but it wasn't in stock. However, the sales associate was able to look deeper and see that all of the components except the mattress were in stock. So he built two lists, one of items available now and another of items to order online or later. This let me get started on the project and it was relatively easy to fill in the missing parts later. (Should also mention this was partly driven by the low stock in most Ikea locations so grabbing anything seemed like a good idea.)
You can buy IKEA online or purchase online and pick your purchases up without going into the store (click and collect). The return department keeps extra parts or will order them for you. Assembly can be arranged with TaskRabbit. Displays generally can’t be sold if new merchandise is on the way - a manager has to approve. You cannot buy any displays from the children’s department and returned children’s items are not sold again. IKEA doesn’t sell your info. The website shows when the store is busiest. Weekends are terrible. August is crazy with back to school shoppers. The actual price on merchandise does not change depending on where it is in the store. If you see a price different from what rings up at the register, and an associate can find the price you saw, the price will be honored.
Wow, all great things I didn't know about Ikea. I love to go to Ikea on rainy or very hot or freezing days and park underground and take my daily walk, but through the store. Not only do I get exercise, but I also get to envision how I might incorporate their products, no umbrella or bulky coat required. I rarely buy, but sometimes I find just the right item. Thanks
Funny..."I'm keeping my hands behind my back" next sentence with hands waiving....LoL....charming and funny. Keep the hands waiving, they are an extension of your enthusiasm. Great Job!
I buy their thermal food totes. They are the best. A nice lime green or grey only. Leakproof lined. Cloth outside, with net pokets onthe outside, to hold phone, glasses and miscellaneous. Looks like a classy beach bag. They run about 7.00, but on Mondays they had specials of buy 4 ger one free. Many people asked where I bought it from. Love this channel Clearly, cleanly, professionally done.
First time I saw your video. Love the shortcut through the store. I had already been doing that, or I ask an associate for the shortcut. I didn't know it was on their walkthrough pamphlet. I will have to pick one up. Also, at our IKEA, $5.00 for pick up, but then they give us a $5.00 IKEA gift card, so basically it's free. Love that❣
Remember to tighten all the screws two weeks after purchase. And then once more after three month or so. It will make a Billy bookshelf last almost forever! Like, up to eight month or even nine!
Dude when I 1st saw you pop on my feed for suggested videos I thought you weren't gonna give me much info I already know. But in reality you gave me many pointers of what a true bargain shopper actually looks for! Plus I like watching you're enthusiasm and your "mind of its own hands" (I do it too🤫) lol keep doing what you're doing. I'm sorry I didn't get to watch your videos sooner. But hey! That's why you have a RUclips channel so I can check out your past videos! 🙏 Thanks again!
My MO is to enter through the returns/exit area. I start by shopping in the returns section and, if I've researched any furniture online, make my way around the stacks to pick up said furniture. If I need to go to a specific section in the store, then I do that before heading back to the checkout. Saves a lot of time and keeps me from dawdling in areas I don't want to shop. I never enter through the main entrance.
Wow this was a great video Matt. I shop at IKEA in Tempe,AZ on weekdays because I can. I’m a senior and can go early and you’re right it’s dead. They recently changed the hours to do this so check before you go.
IKEA also rotates through the different departments about twice a year....depending on the department of course. There are many many different examples, but the big ones are Bedroom, Kitchen, Bathroom, Closet/Organization etc. and they are usually called something like "Kitchen Event" or something along those lines. During those times, if you are purchasing for a specific room or area in your home, you can get anywhere from 10-15-20% "cash back" (in the form of IKEA gift cards) for things on sale in that department. So, if I was in the market for a new mattress, for example, I would wait until I got the email saying all mattresses and bedding are on that type of event. This is especially useful for big purchases like redoing your kitchen. Sure, it's not as good as cash back, but it's still a discount.
Yes..get their credit card; totally worth it in all the rewards $$$ easily racked up🥳Check clearance areas-always good. Buy tea, good olive oil, bras/underwear, bedding..actually everything is amazing at all 3 stores; truly my favorite places to shop!
This was a very helpful video. Thank you for not having much of a social life so that you can share this wonderful information with us ;) - Thanks Deal Guy!
I’m kinda curious about Kohl’s and how good a deal Kohl’s Cash actually is. I mostly focus on clearance items from there, but... Well, if you need to return something to Amazon, you can take it to some Kohl’s locations to return the item faster and for free (which gets you your refund faster). When you do that, they give you a 25% off coupon (for use in store only)... so it’s all very tempting.
I used to live near a Kohls and shop there all time. Bed fast now, don't get to shop. Kohls gas the best coupon deals, wait until a sale day, take the coupon you have been holding on to, shop the deals in store and you end up with each deal being used which gives you the item for about half price or better. Love those coupon deals they just keep piling on..
Thanks for the sponsored ad info on Amazon. I love the as-is section. We found my son’s desk there at half price and it was missing only back trim. We pushed it against a wall so you never notice it!
Get TJX credit card as all of tgeir stores are amazing & the cash back adds up super quick! Love their rewards! Also that you get store credit for amt paid (w/receipt ) if you miss the returns deadline
Secret #8 comes in handy many times, In the IKEA Bahrain store, there was a sale, and they had this little office drawer for a good price (I think it was well under $20), but here's the problem, it was out of stock in the warehouse, but, fortunately, I approached the associate in the Office section and told him that it was out of stock, then we gave him our number, so he can update us. A day later (I think), the associate messaged back saying he can sell the display unit to us, then few days later, Got that little drawer. Good customer service!
I loved how you can’t talk without your hands! I can’t either!!! Your hands didn’t stay behind your back long enough to get one word out!! I can totally relate!! 😂🤗 Thanks for all the great tips!! Some I knew, but most were new to me!! 👍🏻
New sub! Applause for your research and presentation! 😀 I'm in the U.K. and don't have access to some of the places in your other vids, but they're still awesome for getting into the mindset of a deal hunter.
IKEA’s online shopping is full of issues, first they never have enough items for online, when you are gone shopping at checkout time, 90% of items are not available. Why can’t they tell the customers before. Their shipping prices are outrageous.
Their shipping prices are not included or "free" like some other retailers, because IKEA believe in fair pricing and not to let the majority of their customers, who actually pick up their goods themselves, pay for the "free" delivery that just inflate the prices across the board. There is no such thing as free shipping, somewhere along the line YOU or the supplier/ manufacturer is paying the price.
Great video (as usual) I’m in Europe and the As-Is is usually called “Bargain Area” It’s a great place! I’ve been reliably told that all the odd looking names for furniture etc is actually very logical (if you’re Swedish!) as it’s all names of rivers in Sweden. There are a lot of rivers and children are taught them all.. so for example...if you know the name of the primary river that will be the main furniture item then all the smaller tributaries that are connected to that river will be the family of furniture items connected to the main big one! Easy.. if you know your Swedish rivers 🤣
There are few names on IKEA products that are names on rivers. The name on the products are a mix of person names, names of city's, verbs, nouns and so on. (Some not even real words.) Some of them are hard even for us Sweeds to pronounce. 😉
There is a system behind what type of product in ikea got what name, I’m to lazy to tell all of them (google) but eg rugs and carpets got danish city names, couches or bookshelves Swedish ones and garden furniture those of islands :)
I usually go to the as is section 1st. 1. Its already assembled in most cases. 2. Floor models are way cheaper. 3. Sometimes things are returned assembled with multiple items. Those are greatly especially if you want 1 part of it. 3. Discontinued and seasional stuff is dirt cheep. I just picked up 4 throw pillows with a pillow cover. $2 each. Both pillow and the cover. Seasional. I was going to buy pillows and that cover a few weeks ago. 4. They have pieces of furniture and cabinets you can use instead of lumber. 5. Fabric things like bedding and curtains are clearanced a lot. Got twin sheet sets for $5 each.
Thanks for putting in the work to make great informative videos. I mean I know it’s your job but still. They’re concise and to the point without a lot of needless rambling🙄. Keep up the good work😀👍🏻💯
Back when I felt it was safe to be indoors with strangers, even socially distanced, for more than 15 minutes I intentionally walked the long arrow path. It was my exercise in air conditioning.
Haha. It was my exercise AND my hour babysitter while I shopped. My daughter practically grew up with the Ikea here in Michigan. They still 14years later act like we're family. Shows longevity of their staff🤗🥳🥳
When I moved into an apt after selling my home, I purchased a number of bookcases with doors, shelves for my bathrooms and multiple shelves for inside my walk in closets as well as other furniture. I converted one closet to an office, craft space using shelves that Interlocked to form a desk, etc. I am very pleased with the IKEA products despite receiving many items damaged in transit that needed replacement. Once CoVid hit a lot of products were not in stock and in some cases took months to receive mostly due to supply chain issues common to all retailers. The pandemic is still affecting supply. Although irritating, the IKEA staff has done all they can to help me find what I need if it’s available anywhere in their other stores.
"I'm a professional RUclipsr" my favorite line - Love you Deal Guy!! You make such useful videos - any store I'm newly about to shop, I come here first:)
For tip #8 - I’ve done that 3 times. The salesperson gave me a piece of paper to take with the item to the As-is section where they gave the item a price. I got a heart covered black and with pillow for $2 because the salesperson put a tiny joke in it getting it off the display. Doing that and shopping the as-is section first are my two favorite ikea tips.

I did not know that the Ikea stores were franchises and the sales were all different! I learned so many tips here; which is great because we are shopping for new couches this month.
I live in NY, don't have a car and have been trying to buy a cabinet for about a month now from Ikea. The store located near me is small, so I have to order online for delivery to that store, where I will pick it up. It seems like they only deliver once a month and the requests gets filled up very quickly, like in 1 day! It is so frustrating!

"cost me only the gas to go there" What about the gas to come home?
Hello I’m a first time viewer, I like you 🙂
Thanks for all this great info, now I have a better game plan for shopping at IKEA 👍🏽
Thanks for watching :) I hope you liked it enough to subscribe to my channel!
Tell him its Disneyland for amateur interior designers 😆
I love IKEA. I've been shopping there for 36 or so years since the first store in the U.S. opened in Conshohocken, PA, when my kids were small.
Thank you for sharing
Thank you for dressing up, smiling , being friendly 😊, normal , and awesome 👌
Great vibe with great tips 👏
This was so much fun to watch and really helpful. Happy to become your new subscriber and therefore your friend 🌞
Love this channel
Clearly, cleanly, professionally done.
Great tip Faye! Will have to pick one up
Those are great for buying frozen food. I bought mine as a picnic cooler but always bring it to buy groceries.
Thanks for watching Nancy! Glad to have you here
No Costco Has the best return policy I’ve ever seen anywhere. Thanks for your program.
Thanks for being here Pam!
My daughter works at IKEA. She loved all the info you gave. Thanks for making easy and desirable to buy at this store 🤗
Thanks for being here Mary, and tell your daughter hello!
Thanks for the tips! Do you have any saving tips for shopping in Marshall’s, Home goods or TJMaxx?
That's an excellent question!
I love that the associates are available but not overbearing. As an introvert I give two thumbs up!
This is a fantastic video! Thank you so much for helping us understand the IKEA culture better and navigating it.
First time in your channel, immediately subscribed! Very informative and helpful!
Thanks Maebelle!! Glad to have you here!
Or a $10 kohls cash coupon!
Didnt know that thanks
I used to live near a Kohls and shop there all time. Bed fast now, don't get to shop. Kohls gas the best coupon deals, wait until a sale day, take the coupon you have been holding on to, shop the deals in store and you end up with each deal being used which gives you the item for about half price or better. Love those coupon deals they just keep piling on..
Good info. I have shopped at IKEA in the US as well as Germany for decades now. The stores are well stocked and the prices are excellent.
Thanks for the sponsored ad info on Amazon. I love the as-is section. We found my son’s desk there at half price and it was missing only back trim. We pushed it against a wall so you never notice it!
Loved this, especially because I knew some of these, Need a Kohl’s, TJ Max, and Home Goods addiction!
For Tip #7 - you get the $5 fee back (unless they've changed it since the spring). You can only order things up to 24 hours in advance.
Like your humor, hope you really do have friends! 😔
Subscribed!
I loved how you can’t talk without your hands! I can’t either!!! Your hands didn’t stay behind your back long enough to get one word out!! I can totally relate!! 😂🤗
Thanks for all the great tips!! Some I knew, but most were new to me!! 👍🏻
New sub! Applause for your research and presentation! 😀 I'm in the U.K. and don't have access to some of the places in your other vids, but they're still awesome for getting into the mindset of a deal hunter.
I bought items to turn my craft room closet into shelf and some drawers. I love it. Hired a guy to put it in. He did a great job.
I love your humor and enthusiasm. You’re a lot of fun.
Cooking_with_Jules It’s called Rodebutikken in Denmark. Roughly translated to Clutter Store 😅
There are few names on IKEA products that are names on rivers. The name on the products are a mix of person names, names of city's, verbs, nouns and so on. (Some not even real words.)
Some of them are hard even for us Sweeds to pronounce. 😉
There is a system behind what type of product in ikea got what name, I’m to lazy to tell all of them (google) but eg rugs and carpets got danish city names, couches or bookshelves Swedish ones and garden furniture those of islands :)
Great video as usual! And I love your enthusiasm and hand motions.
Some IKEAs will buy your used IKEA furniture back. Portland, OR will do that but Seattle will not, it just depends on the store.
Very informative, Thank you. love the "I love you, bye. I say that exact same thing. Nice touch
I do the same thing 🤪😜
Haha. It was my exercise AND my hour babysitter while I shopped. My daughter practically grew up with the Ikea here in Michigan. They still 14years later act like we're family. Shows longevity of their staff🤗🥳🥳
I had no idea they were franchises, that is useful information
I just love your videos, would love to see best of Restoration Hardware dupes. I’m sure it would be challenging but would LOVE.
Thank you Matt for always bringing us useful info!
Thanks for being here Julia :)
Wow! I'm super excited to learn most of these, even though I've already known some of them. Definitely subscribing. Show your excitement as much as you like. It's just how I would be!
Thank you. I didn’t know about the “as is” area. Much appreciated 😊
I really love this!!! My first time knowing about you and your channel. Thank you kindly for your service.
This was the first time I watched one of your videos and I loved it!! I subscribed and I'll be for sure using some of these tips! I can't wait to learn more! Thank you!
Thanks Julie!
I'm a new viewer and I'm SO happy to have found this older video! So much helpful info, and Lowkey the nerdy claustrophobic bit really hit home as both genuine and relatable 🎉🫂🤣
I did not know that the Ikea stores were franchises and the sales were all different! I learned so many tips here; which is great because we are shopping for new couches this month.
Love the videos! You remind me of a 1980's sitcom dad....🤣😂
Omigosh. Dead on! Maybe that’s why I love his vids so much! ☺️
Anyone going to acknowledge that he ends the video saying “I love you”??? 🙃
On my way to IKEA n just watched your video. I hope to remember all the hacks which you mentioned.
Awesome!!! Great research, you’re doing all the homework for all of us, greatly appreciate it. Will you be able to do a video for the Burlington stores
I live in North Dakota, no IKEA's or much of anything else you talk about here but always love watching your videos.
I’m glad you mentioned about the return wait time, I was thinking about returning something tomorrow (Saturday), will definitely wait until the Tuesday lol
You crack me up.! 😁 I love IKEA, I do think they are pricey, before the Rona the food court rocked.
I will definitely check out the as- is section

You are so kind and helpful. I had no idea how this IKEA stuff worked but now I’m prepared. Thank you so much!
Great video-super informative, entertaining, and engaging! This is the first one of yours I’ve seen, and I had to sub! Thank you for making these “shopping secrets” videos-looking forward to more and to checking out your other videos! =]
I've had experiences that I've come to view as "Feel Good," for the way I felt afterwards I'd have say that while you were starting number 5, I noticed my mood was somewhat elevated in a positive way. I began taking in the whole experience and not just the fantastic tips to one of my most faves. You are so engaging, hilarious, and most importantly, sincere.
Although I knew I was already subscribed to your channel for sometime, I wasn't sure why I only watch your videos, occasionally?
I hit the All Notifixation Bell and will binge your channel starting now. Thanks for giving me the inside scoop.
Wow thank you! That means a lot :)
@@thedealguy Keep up the good work. You make a difference.
I love IKEA. I wish there was a little aisle list you could pick up for all stores.
Snap a pic with your phone!💜
This was really great, I had no idea, but this was such great information, I love IKEA, great video, brilliant knowledge and it's awesome of you to share this, its really helpful. Thank you, I gave it thumbs up and I subscribed Laura in UK.
I heard bed bath and beyond was going out of business???? Can you explore that bc we all love that store!!!! Thanks. Linda from Memphis
Hands behind my back for effective communication... lasts 2 seconds 😂
Awesome video! Love your tips. Thanks!
This is the first time ever, I felt like subscribing or liking a video because someone asked. turned out I was already subscribed. Awesome tips!! 👍🏼
Wow that means a lot!
I love going through the store following the arrows. I find a lot of great ideas that way
Thanks, I learned a lot. Unfortunately, my closest IKEA is about 200 miles away so I don't get there often.
Mine’s 120kms away too
That’s what I said but the one time you go you’ll treat the next trip as a pilgrimage and book a trip each year
My closest is 2000 miles away. I live in Alaska. Lucky you!
