    Being a "once upon a-time-racer" I like to think about how it would compete. As an entry level buggy it would be used by a Novice racer. Even with the Nimh it looks as though it would be competitive. As we know, in the Novice class is, "he who wrecks the least wins". It looks as though it is geared for acceleration so I believe it could be a winner if our Novice has enough practice under his or her belt.

    I liked all of my HPI kits. Had a 1st Gen Nitro MT, Savage SS, two Baja 5b's (one of them the SS kit). Happy with all of them. The Baja 5b was a monster.

    You also have the FTX Vantage 2 and the Absima AB3.4 buggy, Absima is a great buggy the body fits exceptionally well keeping dirt and muck out. FTX probably has the best spares backup in the UK, have done for some years now. Most 1/10th brushed cars do about 20mph other than Traxxas vehicles. I'm not sure how long the motor and Tamiya battery connector will last running on 3s lipo.

    I allso have this rc car but on the long run I recomend use 2s lipo or 8.4v-9.6v nimh pack. Top speed will be 34-39km/h but more safe for the stock motor. Happy bashing :D

    @RCKicks Hello Kevin! Nice presentation once again :)
    Got this buggy for my son like 6 months ago. The issue you have faced, sadly is a common issue. Tiny gravel/dirt goes in the pinion/spur compartment (most probably through the central driveshaft, as the little cap screws really tight and doesn't seem to leave any space) and the aluminum pinion is damaged far too easy after 2-3 10-minute runs on dirt/gravel. Either that or a chassis flex and a bad motor mount.
    After 3 Maverick damaged pinions, decided to change to a Traxxas hardened pinion and a new maverick plastic spur (which is unbelievably strong for plastic).
    In order for some more speed and acceleration have put there a cheap Surpass brushless 540 3300KV motor and esc combo (not 3s run yet).
    Last hard run on dirt/gravel a front dogbone is now MIA xD
    Overall an amazing value per money choice which can give many smiles with the mandatory upgrade to a hardened metal pinion :)

    What a great indepth review! Ftx Vantage 2 very similar chassis and only cost £5 more but has adjustable links and turnbuckles. Believe the diff grease in the FTX is terrible though. Not had FTX vehicle but I know Maverick are too expensive for spares & charge 3 times price of Ftx. I'm a long suffering owner of Maverick Quantum Flux and its a bit pants! Can't wait to see comparison videos with Tamiya buggies.

The front steering knuckle stripped a screw which I repaired with Loctite but it will need replacing. Not sure I would put 3s through the stock ESC. Just wondering if you tried it on 3s. • @999benhonda
      @999benhonda 2 года назад +1

      Kind of hard to compare a $160 RTR to a $140 plasma edge kit. But if you try, the RTR is more bang for your buck hands down. Stock plasma edge is slower, less capable esc, comes with plastic bushings rather than ball bearings. Buy a tamiya if you want to build a RC and don't mind spending an extra $100 for an rc with similar performance. If you want performance per dollar, there are better RTR offerings. Basically, tamiya is never the fun per dollar option. But if you want a build, and prefer tamiyas aesthetics, then you have to factor that into the increased cost.

    Definitely a nice looking buggy but very underpowered out of the box. I put in a cheap brushless system and it runs much better on the same 2s lipo. The shocks upgrade is worth it. The stock plastic shock caps popped out after 5 mins. One of the rear wheels exploded at the hub after 3-4 runs and I’m not a big basher. Ended up getting the wheels from the Strata and the wheel design seems stronger. Only time will tell.

    I’d look at comparing it to the FTX Vantage 2.0 pretty much the same money about £115 for everything you need to run it. Having looked at the video it doesn’t seem that adjustable out if the box, where as the vantage you can alter the amount of droop you want and you can alter the camber front and rear so it’s much more tuneable buggy , it may even have a slipper clutch but I can’t remember to be honest . Good review though

    • @silvarc1552
      @silvarc1552 2 года назад +1

      It does have a slipper clutch, I second everything you said, although you can at the moment get the FTX Vantage (the first version) for £110, I personally prefer the controller that comes with it, the ESC is a bit weaker than the Vantage 2.0 but the whole chassis and parts are exactly the same.

    Ive got the xt for my son, the shocks are too springy, waiting on thicker oil to see if it makes a difference, the body is brittle as hell , my son drove it underneath a car and the body smashed to bits so now has another 110 truck body , ive had to replace the servo because it died from not being strong enough to turn the big wheels and tyres, some budge rcs are cool but they dont have the build quality of the big names. In the end you spend around the same amount fixing and upgrading, my advice, save for a little bit longer and buy a decent brand name which can give you enjoyment and peice of mind knowing its not going to break on your first run out. I have an arrma typhon 3s after buying most of the bangood specials and youtube reviewed cars, and i can say i wouldnt buy a cheaper brand rc again, ive beat it to death and every single part is original and still works fine

    3:12 That plastic arm is just not great, for £119 the FTX Vantage seems a better kit. Motor costs £11.39, FTX sells their 15T brushed motor at £7.99. Those turnbuckles seemed pricey too. I'm not defending the FTX Vantage, but they are in the same price range and the FTX Vantage came better equipped I believe.
    The motor issue you describing sounds like the MV150011 part is not strong enough to keep the motor in place, specially if you used 3S afterwards, I may be wrong

    I just got one of these a week ago, been driving it for about one and a half hours now, and I'll say this;
    don't buy it... after 2 minutes, I rolled it and the wing exploded (it was around 10 Celsius at the time) it also broke the top off a rear damper... glued the damper together (works fine apparently) and drove it again, the thing becomes noisy sometimes, gravel and sand finds its way into the spurgear and the drive shaft...
    Again after another battery, I hit a small pile of dirt from a mole, and it severely bent a front driveshaft, but still driveable... now I just took it for a run and I hit a low curb (rather lightly I'd say, I thought I could get over it, maybe 10-12 kph) and what happens? I broke the entire damn underframe! I'm 1.5 hours into this car and I've already broken parts for half of the price of a new one... oh, and I forgot to mention - servo saver is way too weak... it tends to bind even if I loosen everything up...
    It's not be because I can't drive or anything, I have several cars all the way from a wltoys a959 to the arrma Mojave, just wanted a cheapish buggy to bash around in the front yard when the field is flooded or grass not mowed... I guess I'll probably throw it in the closet and buy something else...

You might want to add some locktight to make sure it doesnt work loose and do it again. Thinking about it, it does ring a bell. I think its a clamp down design so if not locked it can rotate in the mount stuffing up the mesh and eating the plastic spur.

    I just think the smaller scale buggys like wl toys and eachine eat 14 are fun and take up less space.Way too much plastic on this thing.
