I'm DONE with this RC Car! WLtoys 104001 Vs LC Racing LC10B

  • I'm done with the WLtoys 104001. So much hype after the success of the 144001 & 124019 (and of course the A959-B), and IMO it's a massive Flop. Stock is not powerful enough, chassis is too flexible, and now with these Carbon Fibre upgrades not fitting... I AM DONE with this RC Car! (I don't think the Carbon Fibre parts are made by WLtoys).
    Ok Ok ...... Junk RC Car is a bit harsh, it's 'okay' for the money... got your attention though ;)

      The Carbon chassis will fit under the alloy one and does help reduce the flex. The holes on the front need opening up to fit though. Not perfect, but works.

  • @ricardoharewood775
    @ricardoharewood775 3 года назад +4

    Its fine depending on what you want to do with it when they release the upper radio mount for this like the 124019 its should reduce the flex to acceptable levels. Wltoys could just add creases or a bead roll to the chassis to add rigidity but retool may not be worth it as they probably make all of the chassis regardless of scale on the same line.

    carbon fiber like that is for weight reduction, primarily race vehicles. it's not used to make the RC stronger, in some cases you get a loss of strength worth the weight loss. Good reviews, keep up the great work.

    Some of the “carbon fibre" that is priced too good to be true is essentially just tarted up fibreglass made to look like carbon fibre. That kit doesn’t look or sound like the proper stuff…unless it is actually the cheapest carbon fibre made in an easy-bake oven…

    An honest, full scale review of the newest wl toys. I gotta say man, I feel your pain. I did all the same upgrades to my a979b, and aluminum seems to be a terrible choice for a chassis, at least, in the thicknesses that the rc engineers are putting out. 2mm and 3mm is hardly enough to help an arrma kraton 8s survive any kind of impact at any kind of speed. I believe that they could work, but flat metal is not the way to go with aluminum. If they added fluting, scalloping or even basic beam-style supports for those frames, all solid-state, they could be a dream!
    But the carbon fiber, that stuff is a win, when done right. The a979b carbon fiber chassis needed sanding as well, where the differentials go. The wheel arms need to be able to sit lower than parallel with the chassis, and in order to accomplish that, you have to bevel the outer edges of the differential seats to a 45 degree angle to allow for the shocks to push out to their maximum extension.
    But, that $75 car, that $25 chassis, $100 for electronics upgrades, $50 for the aluminum kit, $75 in tires now because I needed to buy the aluminum rim wheels because the speed and power of the upgraded 550 motor literally snaps off plastic rims. 3x sets of plastic rims now, the stock, redcats volcano-16 tires (micro badlands, I was so excited), and some off brand monster truck-esque tires, which were nice and squishy and soft foams... Way too soft, apparently...
    Yeah, my a979b is almost done now. It also almost $400. So you really do get what you pay for. With most rc's, if you want them to be prime and top notch, you will probably end up paying 4x what the car cost. Food for thought!
    Love your videos and your honesty my friend, keep doing what you do!!

    I ordered the LC Emb-1 about a month ago (hopefully it will be here soon). The reason was that I've been running my 144001 with some success and lots of failures for over a year. My mate showed up the the EMB1 and he thrashed it like hell and nothing NOTHING broke on it. Still like my 144001 although I'm on diff number 10 now. Besides that, the 144001 is pretty good.

  • @TheRCMaster
    @TheRCMaster 3 года назад +4

    That's funny when Makerfire was asking my opinion about the carbon fibre chassis a few weeks ago they clearly explained I would have to bend the front kick on the chassis myself. I wonder why they didn't clearly explain this to you also? That's a real shame, anyhow this is far better than a 144001 or a 124019 for speed run. Keep an eye on my channel to see what these cars are really capable of 😎

    • @TomleyRC
      @TomleyRC  3 года назад

      The Carbon chassis is also about 2mm shorter and the front diff case holes are miss aligned. You also can’t heat carbon to bend it, it won’t hold its shape and you’ll more likely deform it.
      I’m in no doubt it’s better for speed runs...it’s bigger, wider and looks like you can gear it better. The fun for me though is getting the crazy speeds from the little ones. They’d be better selling the 104001 as a roller and knock about 25% of the price off.

But there is only a small amount of people that are going to use to for that. As an actual 1/10 Buggy... it's pretty poorly made. Sub standard electronics...sub standard materials.

    heres some thoughts on wltoys...stick with stock chassis... add carbon fiber strips to chassis for less flex...add another wltoys shock tower...eithir lc racing carbon or double up on front and back... also you can buy anti roll bars from lc racing just like with the 144001's... you can also add shims to remove link and wheel slop... cost for all this will be under $40... and of coarse for $40 you could convert it to brushless... yes this seems hard for newbies,but for many of us this is very easy and fun to do... after these changes i see no reason why this car would be anything but a great setup and fun to drive..

    The front kickup does two things. It has a similar effect to adding caster in that it makes the car inherently want to track straight but it also makes the cars go over bumps more smoothly because the arms are angled upwards at the front a bit so are more responsive to the wheels hitting obstacles.

The top-end race cars aren't cheap to build or equip, but they come mostly dialed out of the box with very little need for additional modifications (mainly bearings, but you can get around that by just washing the grease pack out of the bearings and replacing it with bearing oil).

      @@Clavitz1
      Arrma, yes, Traxxas... depends on the model. Their base-model brushed cars are fine for starting out, anything brushless will likely have QC issues. Also, Traxxas tries to sucker you into their product ecosystem.

      @@VestedUTuber only cars I know that have been reliable from Traxxas is the XMaxx, TRX-4 and Rustler 4x4 VXL.
      I'm not familiar with the term QC, what does that stand for?

    • @VestedUTuber
      @VestedUTuber 3 года назад

      @@Clavitz1
      QC stands for "quality control". Traxxas tends to let lemons slip through the cracks more often than other brands.
      As an example, I actually have a Slash 4x4 VXL that will not move under its own power unless you push it first, and it was like that from the factory. This should have never been allowed to ship.
      The reason I would only recommend the brushed Traxxas vehicles for beginners has less to do with reliability and more to do with durability. Traxxas uses the same plastic parts on both the brushed models and their brushless counterparts, so the brushless models are more likely to break in the event of a crash due to them carrying significantly more kinetic energy. Technically this is also the case for Arrma's models but apart from some chassis issues with the Kraton platform Arrma tends to overbuild their cars to an extreme.

I also got the Truggy conversion kit and built that instead of the buggy as was winter. Love the quality of their kits and it really can shift and I only run it with a 2s 4200mha 25c pack crammed in. Think initial kit cost me £202 and you only needed to add a transmitter and receiver which I had already and battery pack. Like the look of the 1/10 kit, but when you add the price for the electrics, tyres, Motor etc it mounts up. But you get what you pay for really. Love the vids, love LC kits 👍🏻
