In this video I will show you how to replace the door seals on a Toyota sedan. In this case it's a 2001 Avalon but I'm sure all the Toyota models are similar.
$150 a seal per hour LOL these dealerships are out of their minds anymore & is the main reason as to why I go to friends or watch vids like yours, to self-teach myself. Saves a ton of money. Great vid btw, was extremely helpful!
Yeah, isn't that some crazy 💩 to charge such a price over something that requires LITTLE MUSCLES, AND ABSOLUTELY NO ENGINE WORK! HELL, YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO REMOVE NO DOOR PANELING! That is Exactly why if I can do it myself, a dealership never touches my car! Hell with their VERY LIMITED (LIFETIME REPLACEMENT) WARRANTIES!
Thank you for making this video, I now understand the concept of replacing door weatherstripping. The holding clips was the main point I needed to understand and now I'm ready to tackle my Jeep.
Thanks for the video. Just did the replacement on the inner seal in less than 10 minutes. No cutting is needed just press the seal in starting at the corner. When you get to the end there is a bit of buckling so lift a couple of feet and shift the seal. It fits exactly as it should for about $100.
Thanks Tim! . My passenger side seal popped out at the top. It's nighttime and snowing in Upstate NY. Good timing eh. The seal was undamaged but I was having no luck at all getting it to stay put (besides getting snowed on). Your vid showed clearly what I was doing wrong. I finished in a flash. It's easy when you know how I guess. I wiped the snow off the jam and seal, put some syl-glide lubricant on the body side where the seal presses against the metal and now it's good to go. Hopefully the lube will keep the thing from popping off again. I gained a lot of automotive experience in my racing days but not much experience with door seals :) Thanks again - Dave
Wow...thanks for the nice, clear video and easy instructions! Headed out to do the '99 Corolla driver's door and I'll even try the Sienna back door! Inspired. Thanks so much!
Hi Tim. Thanks for the video. It helped me work through a similar issue on my Honda Accord. By the way I’m the same Scott that worked at the “Lazy B” with you.
Thanks for the video. I'm going to replace the seals on my newly acquired 99 Solara. I'm also interested in fixing the chrome trim that runs above the door. My trim has separated from the car body creating a little space for water to collect. It looks like over time gunk has built up in the space between the trim and the car body. Maybe you should do this to your Avalon so I can learn how it's done :)
On the door-mounted seal, contrary to the instructions given, I found it much easier to insert the rubber in the track in the top of the door by inserting first the outside, then the inside track, for about 2 or 3 inches at a time, then repeating,
That bolt you were having a hard time getting off, I can't get off. I got the seal on except for that area, I purchased it from the dealership. I'll see if they'll unscrew it and I can fasten it and screw it back. Should take less than 30 seconds.
One question. What would the part be called that goes between the inner door seal and the interior/headliner? Mine is all aged and the adhesive that held the interior color strip has failed and instead of grey, all you see is gross orange adhesive. My weatherstripping is perfect, even though I just got a low mileage 2000 Corolla.
Hi Tim! I have a 2009 Honda Accord Sedan and I need to replace the weather strips on the door. DO you think it might be the same way like you did on the Toyota? Just asking since I couldn't find any video how to do it properly!
Can you please mention where to buy this outer door replacement for a 94 Camry sedan LE and what the part number is for the driver side? When I search online I only see “slip on” universal gasket (Amazon) and they give no clue as to whether they will work or not. I am not a car repair person, but as a 63 old capable DIY female, I have had too many times now where the doors freeze shut and I am locked out of my vehicle after work with no one around, at 8 pm at night, I need to fix this quick. I also need to do the trunk so that I can take out the shovel in snowstorms.
Thanks! I changed my inner and outer seals a month ago with Oem for my land cruiser. The driver side I still have shut really hard for it to shut close. Does it need some time to fit tight or should I check the seal again?
having issues finding seal for my 2011 scion xb, anyone have an idea where i cod find or at least what type is it? is similar to this in video but not quite.. thanks in advance!!
I ordered the weather strip from Tasca parts, but they charged $21 for shipping. Later, I found if you go directly to Autozone shop, tell them what you need, they will order it for you. Once they get it they will call you, I did it on my power window switch.
I am having difficulty finding my replacement seals for the door and the body of the car. Do they sell each separately, or are they sold together? Thanks!

9 years later and your still teaching us 😅 I’m going to do this on my infinity but it’s the same process. Thank you ❤️

thanks for this vid! I'm totally gonna try it on my corolla. One dealership was gonna charge $200 just to look at it...crraazzy!!

Just like the accord I'm working on, good helpful vid for many different car models apparently.

You are most welcome.
Thank you for a very detailed replacement of door seals. I will be able to DIY it.
Just did the change myself, thanks for the video!
Hi Tim. Thanks for the video. It helped me work through a similar issue on my Honda Accord. By the way I’m the same Scott that worked at the “Lazy B” with you.
Thank you so much for sharing with us :) now only if I can find the seals for inside and outside
Awesome tutorial from start to finish! Grade: A+ for sure!
Very nicely made and super helpful. I’ll do this myself now
This was really helpful, thanks!

Thank you. Its a very well put video. I need to change for my car. Its leaking and the doors make noise while closing.

Okay, fair enough...
Your video really helped me. Well done. Many thanks.

Where to buy Weatherstripping for 2001 Toyota Avalon
Omg thank you so much, I now know that to do and what is it called, because I’m going on a trip and needed my car fixed thank you8
Thanks this is very helpful.
I have water coming in from the top where the door meets the body on the driver side. Will replacing the seals fix that?
I have no idea. But, it sounds like it would.
The last part. This is a message, if I was the dealer ship that told him that blasphemous price I would be shitting myself.
thank you for shearing!! now where did you buy the seal? and how much did it cost?
Awesome video!
superb work !!!!! thanks for sharing....
That was a great video showing inner and outer seals.
Have you tried replacing the actual window seal?
Jennifer, I have not.
Would have been Nice if you would have Closed the Door Before and after,I always listen to a Car Door Closing Hear how Worn it is! Otherwise Not Bad!
whats the part# for both sets of seals ?

I wish I could help you but I have no idea what that part is called or where to purchase it. Sorry.
@@timlind53 It just might be part of the weatherstrip? That's what I'm thinking.
Hi Tim!

I have no idea. I found out how to do mine by just asking a mechanic at my local Toyota dealer. Can't hurt to try.
Thanks for the video, on my toyota truck the little snap-ins won't stay in the hole anymore, can you buy new ones?
dlc54 I would ask the local Toyota dealer parts department.

I bought the door seals I used at the local Toyota dealer. Not sure where to order them online.
Timothy Lindsey just called the Toyota parts dept. and they said the seals “were discontinued, and 1997 seals are different then the 1996!”
Great video
Thanks! I changed my inner and outer seals a month ago with Oem for my land cruiser. The driver side I still have shut really hard for it to shut close. Does it need some time to fit tight or should I check the seal again?
I'm not a professional or advanced car guy but I'd double check the seals and hope that they settle over time. Sorry I can't be of more help.
@@timlind53I didn’t use the car for 2 weeks. Seems to have settled by just not using them for some time
having issues finding seal for my 2011 scion xb, anyone have an idea where i cod find or at least what type is it? is similar to this in video but not quite.. thanks in advance!!
I bought mine from my local dealer so I would check with them.
Gracias seńor for the video excelente 👍
Would you suggest using silicone to seal inner door? After putting the seal back in, or in combination?
No.
awesome vid
Can you help me in where to purchase the seals for both front doors on my 2004 Camry
Thanks!
