Japanese cutting skills - Super sharp Japanese utility knife
Chef Dai demonstrates on a humble cucumber a few simple cutting techniques.
The first technique can be used as a garnish on a place.
The second is a commonly used technique in Japan called "Katsuramuki".
And the third method can be used for salads and pickled cucumber dishes. Хобби
Who would've thought that a cucumber could be so exiting?

+Caleb Franklin hhahahaha

The sound of the knife slicing through the cucumber is so satisfying.
Unexpectedly this is a better ASMR video than most actual ASMR videos
Justin Doan
I totally agree with you
Justin Doan lol true
Thought the same mate!
because this is actual asmr, not the whispering crap
ASMR sucks.
What am I doing with my life at 1 in the night
Lol I'm at at 2
+Sebastian Coronado Just after lunch? That's not really a bad time to watch videos...
+MuttonChew why do you have to be so technical? You know what he meant.
+Sebastian Coronado 1:31 a.m. i asked myself the same question. LOL !
lmfao
Oh Man it's so satisfying
but what the hell am I doing with my life at 3 a.m.
I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE YESS
it's 5:03 am
Me too ahahha
It's so sharp i had to go down to 360p cause i was afraid i'd somehow cut myself watching this.
I could listen to that all day, it sounds so peaceful :D
+ブースト arigatou!!!
weeaboo i see ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
It is truly amazing to watch how that steel blade cuts so effortlessly through the soft cucumber.
+Al Heeley Thank you for the kind comment Al. The knife really is the star of the show!!!! Dai
+Cooking with Chef Dai I think he was being sarcastic,... 😟
Yeah Al heeley was being a dick :)
+Frankieon10spliffsofweed Not very polite is it for a bit of light hearted humour?
Sorry Al I was just being a smart arse like I thought you were :)
You have very pretty hands.
looks greased lmao
only after the cucumber juice :)
Hai Misa
o yeah cool ;)
, drink juice or or use as massage? :D
+ankushzap you could just lick* it off?
Hai Misa
not bad too ;)
I've been cooking for 6 years now and can do that very well, but the way he does it. world class👌👍
Very talented. I remember eating a sushi with a freakin thick cucumber outsider. Wasn't as refreshing(since I ate a roll of sushi with a really thin outer cucumber skin before)~This is BEAUTIFUL!
thank you for the kind comment
I mastered these skills at the age of ten, cooking for family of six since i was seven years old. Being the oldest means i have most responsibilities. I dont like cooking i just know how to cook extremely well. When we go out i always say you know why its better then mine. My wife says " it's because you didn't have to touch a dam pan, right" and i say "your absolutely right."
Every time I start thinking I might not be a bad cook, I watch videos like these and realize I'm only about a million years behind great chefs when it come to skills. Sigh.
Now I know where the word "chop" comes from! It literally says " chop, chop, chop" !!! Awesome video!
And here I am cutting my finger while cutting a potato
I should be studying but instead I'm watching this shit and now I want to spend $200 on a japanese knife
It’s 2:20 am, and happy that I watched this one. Little things keep me happy. :)
The sharpness of this knife is so satisfying.
AWESOME video!!!. I like your channel. Well done my friend...
Impressive!
+trplpwr thanks a lot!!!
+trplpwr
This knife is so sharp, it can cut even *THIS CUCUMBER*
Honed to a very fine edge. probably whipped but on the celery too! :)
That's insanely hard. Also if you observe his pointer finger/index finger while he is thinly slicing the zucchini, you can see the blunt part of the knife really hurting him! Mad respect!
+Sahana Gururaj that was a cucumber ty
Took my kitchen knife into a professional sharpener and picked it up yesterday. For 5 bucks it was SO worth it. I look forward to cooking now because I know my prep time wont take forever because I have a good knife..
Human precision is really something.
+Nathan Giambattista not when compared to machine precision.
+Michael Palfrey But machines are made by humans.
+Michael Palfrey without humans precision there will be no machine.
so sharp can cut cucumber! Couldnt you basically do this with any new knife?
+TorrentOfficial Takes a very well sharpened blade to cut as cleanly as that.
"yes" you could do all this with a new knife, provided it was a well made and properly sharpened one. Which is a rarer and rarer commodity outside of a few specialized brands :(.
I use wusthof, victrinox and Henkels kinives, they have never let me down
More like just a good sharp knife.
+TorrentOfficial "Couldnt you basically do this with any new knife?"
Sadly, no. Many knives, even new out of the box, aren't properly sharp. When trying to slice food thinly they'll either go off course from an uneven edge, or crush the food from a dull edge. Good forged knives are expensive, but usually worth it. Some forged knives, though, are poor imitations of the good ones.
Most stamped knives are junk. One exception is Victorinox Fibrox; they're moderately priced, yet very sharp and true. As word has spread their prices have gone up, but they still not (yet) outrageously priced.
One thing about most Japanese knives that helps in cutting paper-thin slices is that they are beveled on one side and flat on the other, unlike Western knives that are beveled on both sides. Most single-bevel knives work best for right-handers, but there are left-handed versions available...but they're expensive.
i could do this with a 5dollar knife from the asian shop as long as its sharp lol
1:31 the amount of cucumber my brother puts on his sandwiches
素晴らしい!!👏
beautiful
+supersendojarren arigato!!!!!
this was satysfiying to watch

DeKilian um honey that’s a spoon 😦
I might be moving to japan, I have no clue what it's like there, but I can imagine it's a lot different from here in florida.
+Fishes worst enemy Moving to Japan? sounds really exciting! Where abouts in Japan might you be moving to? I've lived in Japan before and have also visited Florida before, Key West and Miami to be exact. Yes, Japan and the US are very different culturally. However, Japan also has many influences from US culture and the Japanese are extremely intrigued and interested in US culture and embrace it fully, so you will still be able to enjoy and experience much of the stuff that you're accustomed to in the US. Japanese traditions and the culture are extremely beautiful and unique IMO, so I'm sure you've have an absolutely enriching and fulfilling experience over there. Good luck!!!!
+Cooking with Chef Dai I might be moving to yokosuka, and thanks for the luck!
Fishes worst enemy Thats awesome. I used to live in Kanagawa which is the prefecture of Yokosuka. You will absolutely love Japan, I wish I could go to Japan again soon too : (
+Cooking with Chef Dai yeah, I've never heard of anyone not saying it's an amazing place, the base I'd be moving to since we're in the Navy, is apparently one of the best for the family, unlike here in florida, where it's only adult friendly. We were going to Hawaii at first but someone filled in the spot before us.
I think you will find the Japanese people and community you live in to be gracious and accommodating. Of course, Japan like every other country on this planet has its negative aspects. But I can assure you that Japan is one of the safest places to raise a family and the positives vastly outweigh the negatives. I wish you and your family the best of luck and happiness in the future!! Dai
This is satisfying af.
OMG the cuts are all perfect
what's the knife you're using?
+lau chee ko Most likely a santoku.
It's called a petty knife. It's the japanese version of the utility knife
Is that cilantro?
Cucumber lol

I like this type of sharp knife
not that good, vid shd be called "a few ways to cut cucumber"
Super sharp knife isn't very sharp
+MiaMcc yeah really i got some cheap ass walmart knives in my kitchen that can do the same thing and they are several years old just got to sharpen them every few months on my little ceramic camping sharpener
you probably cut very softly without any pressure, which is why it lasts, because if you applied some strength to it it would probably start getting dull
That knife looks very sharp if I was him I’d cut my hand off and be like “OHHHHHH n...n...NOOO”
This is ART
