I think most of the downfalls you mentioned are addressed once you power the unit up. The sliders are not labeled because each one can be assigned to do whatever you want. The button above the slider can be addressed to any of a number of colors to help identify what you have it doing. The locks on the xlrs are a bit moot to me. I have a P4 and have never had a problem with a cable falling out. The lack of labels on the smart buttons is because, like the sliders, they are addressable to just about anything including midi control. There are also 4 pages of functions for the buttons so "hard" labels would only be accurate for one of the pages. As far as the customer service goes, it does seem a little substandard but your requests were a bit demanding. Just because they received your unit, doesn't mean they didn't receive 50-100 other units with a warranty request as well. It's a bit pretentious to think that your claim should be handled with some sort of priority over the other warranty claims that may be in line ahead of you.

I absolutely share your oppinion. And in addition, I like the USB c power more because you can be very versatile from where you power comes. You can easily use a power bank for example.
Only thing of the cons I confirm is the monitor out volume. Any other is just conceptional different, more versatile and in my oppinion better solved than in the first model. Also the eight custom buttons. You can color them the way you want and see what they do on the display.
I feel this video is a bit biased because there is so much time dedicated to the customer support thing and the cons.
The rodecaster pro is great, but the pro 2 evolved so well and with the better hardware is such a fine device.

I would say first try the unit before you report things missing. The unit is a mainly software based mixer. The faders are movable so you can put whatever fader on wherever you want. It has a lot of features so first dive into that. Now the thing that is a big thing for the use the unit is, it's a software based mixer. The firmware can get stuck, either while updating or when booting. I had a couple of situations that the mixer was part working, part stuck. So while the first microphone was working, the second would not do anything aswell the other channels. I had to reboot the unit. This was the first Rodecaster. The other mistake many people make is, it's not a broadcast or music mixer, it's a podcast mixer with a lot of options build in. There is no EQ on it, you can only choose between line out or speakers out, not both at the same time. There is a lot in it to make mistakes so while the first one was just "point and shoot", version 2 is more complicated and human errors are just around the corner.
For the sound technicians, get this thing as a "dumb mixer". All other cases, use the mixer you feel good by. For the podcasters, you are not radio or television broadcasters. When using the mixer you can mix all the channels in a way you can export it and use the file that second. Post editing with the multitrack files is just a production with editing time. Use a soundengineer when you officially need one. Sorry if i'm being blunt but the thing is that i see so many podcasters doing stuff that doubles up time while i can record and when i hit stop, that recording is ready for use. No days editing to get each and every inhale or sigh out to make the recording as unnatural as possible.

Thanks for sharing your story and views regarding the RCP 2. I'm sorry to hear of the issues you had with getting your RCP replaced and returned to you. Nothing like a work-related deadline to add a bit of stress to the overall experience. Combine that with a "bricked" RCP 2, and I can imagine that level of frustration would be very high.
Unlike your experience, my replacement experience was quite the opposite. I bought my RCMP in late April 2022. Sometime in mid-June, I noted that the solo button for the keypads was broken. I hadn't noticed whether it broke after I bought the unit or if it was non-function right out of the box. I emailed Rode and received a reply 2 days later advising that I contact their Canadian repair facility as I live in Canada. I contact the repair facility and explained the problem. I was advised that I should return my unit to the store where I purchased it and ask the store manager to contact the repair facility directly. When the manager contacted the repair facility, they asked the manager to swap my unit for a new one, and they would ship a replacement unit to the store that day. For me, it was just that simple.
I'm fortunate enough to be able to indulge myself with the "latest and greatest" more often than I need to. However, your observations regarding the RCP 2 may just convince me to hold off on upgrading until I see how it all settles out.

Thanks for a really honest and heartfelt review. I totally understand the frustration and disappointment that occurs when you have an expectation for something to work and it just doesn’t. Then on top of that you don’t feel your matter is addressed and handled with any kind of sincere urgency. I was dead set on purchasing the RCP II, but I’m going to hold off and just start with the original RCP first. I know not everyone’s experience is the same, but I don’t want to even the possibility of dealing with that pain as I am a beginning podcaster. I hold nothing against Rode, but I do appreciate your review and will adjust accordingly. Thanks for taking the time to share!

I just upgraded today and out of the box, everything worked perfectly. I have to say the power cord not screwing in and the XLR cables not locking in yes, disappointed. However, being able to route my audio as I did on the GoXlr is a tremendous plus for me. I haven't had this unit in possession long enough to really know what I'm talking about but the Roadcaster Pro is still my baby it's a perfect device.

I got similar issue but with Rodecaster Duo. I bought the unit and it worked flawlessly, upgrade the firmware perfectly, I even finished recording several youtube videos but only for about a week. After 7 days of happy moment, one morning, turned it on, and it stucked @ 99% boot screen, and stop there for over 30 minutes. Unpluged all cables, unpluged the power, reconnect only the power, same thing. Stucked @ 99%. I started googling for solution, and guess what, now there is even something called Rode's Boot Screen of Death. So, learning from your case, I just called the distributor where I purchased it, and they asked me to send it back.

You make the Rodecaster blind, who are completely blinded by the beautiful and fantastic topics about what the Rodecaster 2 can do, see Rodecaster Pro again.
I mean, you are the one who opens eyes, and resets our Rode and caster minds.
    I thank you for that.
Everyone should do that, including Rode himself.
If it were true that Mr. Rode himself would check your topic and I really hope he does, then I have the following to say to him: Mr. Rode, I am very sorry and also sorry that people who have a problem with the Rodecaster and are promised that the device would be replaced quickly because of an appointment that the customer must be able to fulfill using the Rodcaster Pro, after a long wait and appeasement is told that their device would not be replaced after all, but would be repaired and this within the warranty period?
Let this repair be for after the warranty, and only let the exchange happen within the warranty, because you have to keep promises, that's customer service, otherwise you will make paying customers victims like this man here who returned his device 22 days late received, what a disappointment for him, and then these and future customers may stay away, yes, future customers who hear and read all this on RUclips, Twitter and Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok, would prefer to stay away, although they were first customers wanted to be, but after this news, no, no more than.
Because nobody wants to be a victim, not even me.
I have a Rodecaster Pro, and I want the Rodecaster Pro 2 , but now that my eyes are a bit more open, I'm waiting for some reactions from Rode first.
However, as this victim said, there is no reason to be angry with Rode, not that, but it is a valid reason to be disappointed, because of the promise of an exchange within the guarantee that did not happen, as a result of which the customer could not fulfill his content promise, although it was promised through exchange, which did not happen with consequences, which made customers victims.

They had some early issues with the firmware which have mostly been resolved they are also adding new features at a fairly rapid pace.
Level control for monitors is handled by the rotary encoder knob under the headphone controls.
What each fader is set to is shown on the screen the buttons over each fader also have a color which matches the key on the display. I can see why you preferred the predefined fader layout on the pro but personally I prefer the flexibility of having things exactly how I want them to be.
I think the Pro 2 is a fairly significant upgrade over the original Pro but for those that don't agree it's nice the original is still an option.

I bought one from Amazon and the LCD never turned on, so I returned it. Then I went to Best Buy and got a brand new one, the pad didn’t work, returned that also 😂😂😂 did an exchange at Best Buy for another, that one worked. I’m very happy with it, this is my first using a mixer or doing any live streaming on RUclips, and I love it, very easy to use. I did buy the extended warranty from Best Buy, it was $150 extra. But it covers if its broken, liquid damage, and I can upgrade it in two years if it breaks for whatever is new at the time, just pay the difference. That’s with the Best Buy warranty. It’s worth buying. Hope this helps some people. 😊

I believe the issue would have been resolved if you return it to the store, which they will be happy to do a replacement or money back, yes the power unit is a pain but to use the unit with a power bank you'll have to accept the new power unit, Now just for you to know the RCP2 is not for everyone, so most people will be better off with the first one or the mixcast4 or the zoomP8, this unit is for those who want to do more than a podcast but want to do gaming Livestream, little of music recording, smart pad assignment and so on, and to do all these, the fader, the pad can not be labeled because they do more than one task, so the RCP2 is more like a software mixer with physical controls if this system is sold as a broadcast console you're looking between $3000 - $6000 US but for what it is it's a new device and bug will be the issue as many customers are pushing for personal needs to be added. Like I said many users will be better off with the former ones yet I tell you this is a fantastic device and most reviews are not lying because mine work well out of the box with no hiccup and you don't expect people to tell you what they won't experience during testing, things happen and am glad you're able to resolve the problem.

As a Rode Caster Pro user who ordered the Rode Caster Pro 2, I had some immediate issues also. My unit updated fine, but when connected to my computer, as the Pro always was, when my computer sat inactive and went into sleep mode it would not wake up. In order to wake up the computer I had to disconnect the Pro 2 from the computer, turn the computer off, unplug the computer, then the computer would start again after rebooting. When connected it would happen again. The second issue I had with the Pro 2 was the clock display on the unit, after setting the clock, once the unit was turned off and later started up again the clock had stopped. As a result it never had the correct time. Rode was unable to identify and fix the cause of the problem for both issues. I wound up returning the unit to B&H within the 30 day return time limit. I am back to using the trouble free Rodecaster Pro.
Oh, an irksome snag on the Pro 2, the headphone jack that was conveniently located on the front of the unit was removed forcing you to plug your headphones into the back of the unit. Not sure what the thinking was there.
As a podcaster only (not streaming) the $699 upgrade wasn’t really an upgrade for me and in the end I am glad to be using the trouble free Pro 1 again.
    Your mileage may vary.

One of the problems I've noticed over the years is that as many tech companies scale up substantially in size, they often become more bureaucratic and scripted in how they handle customer support, and/or they farm out support to people who are not very knowledgeable about the equipment, software and operations. Furthermore I've observed that the support function is often pretty siloed from other parts of the company, e.g., developers, engineers, etc. Such companies often prioritize internal efficiency over meeting the support needs of customers. Increasingly I try to stay away from such companies.

Sorry to hear such an experience… for the cons you point out on the RCP II, I think it’s all intended that way and most users are happy of it: routing! Basically you can put any wherever you want, and with the color button above the fader you know it’s the source because you assign a specific color. Again, for the sounds channel, you can assign it to another fader! Maybe a virtual one if you think you’re not going to use the fader that much. The big knob is indeed the monitor knob, but by clicking on it it also adjusts virtual channels and various settings. But you couldn’t know, you’ve never seen screen lit up!

Rob, I had a similar experience after upgrading to the Pro 2. I couldn't get it to update. I had to take it to my house to get it to recognize my IP address. I finally got it to update. I took it back to my studio and finished setting it up. The next day it was bricked. Would not boot up. I called their US service center and got a replacement. Had to take it to the house to update again. But it is working now. I concur with the cons. But the features on the Pro 2 are great.I how you get yours up and running soon.

Sorry about the issues with support. That doesn't fill me with warm fuzzies with my first Rode purchase. I just got my Rodecaster Duo (didn't really have the need for the additional inputs with my setup to justify the cost of the full size Rodecaster 2) but the internals are supposed to be the same, to the point of using the same firmware.
As I suspoect, at this late date, you've heard that many of your intial impressions are probably mitigated once you can get the unit turned on. Things like the templtes for the sound pads have very litmited value with 8 pages worth of vailable pads, and the rather clear marking on the screen.
Being able to see the screen is essential because of the way the fader and pad assignments work, so I haven't found that to be much of a limitation.
I had no issues with intital setup and configuration, including a firware update the moment I connected it to the network. However, I too have a problem with my unit, but it has to do with some issue with the USB routing which is causing all my sound to be picked up through the microphone inputs in Windows and OBS (if I play something like a video, it is showing up in my microphone input in OBS and in the Sound Control panel) so I am waiting for a new unit to be sent as a replacement as well. Unfortuantely, the demand is very high for the Duo. I waited 4 weeks for my intial order due to back order, and they sold out almost immediately, meaning I'll be waiting for the replacement for at least 2 to 3 weeks. I have to wait for Monday to call Rode to see if it's something I'm doing wrong, but after a session with Sweetwter support technictian connected to my machine with Teamviewer, we both feel that the issue lies with the unit itself, which is why they decided to send me a replacement unit, once available, with no quesions asked.
I would be interested to hear what you thought of the Rodecaster 2 if you got a working replacement, and had the opportunity to try the new functionality.
    Thanks for the video.

Hi, I just bought the RCP 2 and I hope some of these issues have been addressed. And of course by now you know why the tracks were not labeled because with the latest firmware you can make any track any signal that's my logic behind it and also the smart pads can be controlled from any fader or knob with this new update so I believe they had this in mind when they created the unit so it's just a matter of being patient so the machine can mature.

I bought the Pro 1 initially, and used it for 2 weeks (3 different 4-mic interviews for our show). Loved it… Then I read that the Pro 2 has no need for external lifters/pre-amps (I use all Rode PodMics), so I returned the Pro 1 and got the Pro 2. After recording 2 different 4-mic interviews, I found myself preferring the Pro 1. The headroom on the mic faders of the Pro 2 isn’t notably more than that on the Pro 1.. so the pre-amps don’t seem all that much better to me. And the simplicity of the interface on the Pro 1 is much preferred over the Pro 2. Not just the software interface (which is much simpler) but the hardware you mention as well… very clearly labeled. Much better, for me anyway. I have no desire to re-map any of the faders or knobs… So, I returned the Pro 2 and bought a Pro 1 again. Very happy with my decision. If you are going to be using instruments or ,live streaming… or something else more complex, then maybe the Pro 2 is a better fit. In my opinion, if you’re using it only to record podcast interviews, the Pro 1 is the way to go.

The Bluetooth function does work always, but the light does not. I contacted Rode about it and like you, I got the emails of did you try this and that. They agreed to repair it if I sent it to them. I decided the shipping charge of $55.00 was not worth it, so my light still doesn't work. Seeing the trouble, you had with sending the unit back and getting it back in time of use, I'm glad I opted not to send mine back. I am so sorry that you had to go through the madness that you went through. Again, I love my Rode Caster Pro as my main audio interface, and I don't need the Rode Caster Pro 2. Trying to lay shit on another company or individual because of "your event" isn't their problem and if you had big name heavy hitters as guests, it's still YOUR responsibility to have a show for them to come to.

I too have wasted a lot of time with RODE, they make some very bad products, and they never bother to recall them... I made videos, detailing the problems and published them to YT, they reply politely, but never seem to actually do anything about it. Rode "Looks" nice, but they are a far way off from being as professional as SHURE for example.

That’s sad that Rode treated you so poorly. The Rodecaster is clearly a great product and although expensive make producing a podcast really easy for even the beginner. However at the price it costs if the back up is bad then may be its not worth even starting a podcast. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, to get tech support to do do anything for you these days any more, you got to record a video or take pictures at the least. You know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Well it's true. Mostly they get the message that you can make a video showing a defective product and so they hop to it to do soemthign to prevent that.
The other thing that works is going into a vig channel that is a 3rd party channel that shills or hawks their products and make a little stink in the commetns section and that gets their attention too sometimes. Because again, high visibility.
I only use these tactics though now with really big offensive shoddy hardware... like products shipped out obvious in alpha stage that didn't work at all when it left the factory and it's obvious they knew it, or when soemoen said this works and it clearly doesn't... (like ebay sellers). Basically, a measured d0ucbebag responce. If it's clear they're doing something d0uche then respond back in kind.
A lot of these startups and even established players don't have much int he way of a tech support repair department... they are good at contracting with someone to manufacture in volume... and ship ot... but not the messy job of repair. So what I wisht hey all would od, is just send you out a new uint immediately, and take your old unit and resell it in lots to jobsbers wo then fix them up and resell them on the grey market as refurbed or whatever.... someoen willing to make a buck doing work to fix a lot of them they specialize in and resell them and make something for thier time and labor. Just write the defective ones off and sell at a huge lost to a 3rd party by the palette full and let them evaulate and fix themaall.

So looking at reviews of it, once the screen is on that knob does a lot. Your monitor controls and all of the other settings is there. However I have had a Rodecaster Pro for over 2 years and I have had one constant problem. Mic one even if muted records to the track. Now the other people cannot hear me, but when I play it back to edit it, whatever I said while muted was clearly recorded. I also deal with Sweetwater and I have for a few years now. So I called my sales person and told him about it and stated I already contacted Rode snd did what they told me to do. Now the first one I bought was a floor model. Sweetwater said no problem and sent me a brand new one. This is why I deal with Sweetwater because the customer service is top notch! For the record I did not ask for a new one but if we could fix the one I had. So a brand new unit comes and guess what? I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE!!! This proves not that it is something with Rode. They never took responsibility for it! I like the Rode Caster I really do. But due to this I am now looking at the Tascam Mixcast 4. I hope Rode get's their stuff together. Because they are chasing customers away!

I’ve said it from the day the RCPII was announced is it’s a money grab. I asked Rode if there would still be updates to the original RCP and they said no, that the hardware could no longer handle it. I still believe that a lot of the “new” features could be added with updates like adding an EQ. I still like Rode products but the decision making is pretty poor.

And how you can then go ahead and start reviewing when you can’t or won’t get it all operative first, is beyond me. This is not helping your technical acumen. One of the reason’s you buy from Sweetwater is to avail yourself of their outstanding support - isn’t it? Anyway, this is the first time I am catching your channel - I just found this to be off putting. Finally, why on earth did you wait two years to check the other mic inputs??? - just saying - sorry this just kinda got my goat.

My work speaks for itself and I am not in need of any validation from you or anyone else for that matter.
That said, the intent of the video was to give my experience and to showcase things that I perceived as valid points to bring up about the unit and the lack of fundamental features that set the first apart.
I clearly outlined my intentions in this video to begin with and therefore, I remain unapologetic about my approach.
If no one says anything about their poor customer service experience (from any company) how will they ever know that it is a problem.

@@Homestudiosimplifed Sorry I still feel your intended approach was ill fated. No one is above criticism - are they? I get the pressure - and mentioning customer support issues is fine of course, but as all my teachers always told me - "Your lack of planning does not my emergency make, next time start sooner." Anyway I wish you all the best - try not being so defensive. And Best Practices include: Don't dish out criticism if you can't take criticism - I didn't mean to offend - I just spoke "my experience". Good luck in future episodes.

Two problems I've come across with the Roadcaster Pro 2 :-
    1. The record button randomly turns blue at which point it is impossible to record to SD card. I've tried replacing SD card along with a factory reset - nothing has worked.
    2. The unit will randomly fail to switch on when you press the power button. Solution:-
Unplug the unit for at least 30 minutes then attempt to reboot the unit. iF your lucky this will work, if not, return the unit to where it was purchased.
Despite both the above faults being widely reported by dozens of other users on Reddit Rode tech support continue to say they're "unaware of any issues". It's this lack of honestly by Rode that I find the most alarming.

Awful experience. The Rodecaster pro let's you set the faders to what ever you want. That is why they are not labeled. You also get 6 faders and 3 virtual faders. One thing I hated about the Rodecaster Pro II is the top panel has this plastic overlay that is glued to the top of the unit. Mine was raised on the lower left corner. I pressed it back down and the glue held it down but for how long? Very cheap way to do it.

Me, I'll just use a small microfiber towel to cover it when not in use. Unless someone about 6 to 8 months down the road sells one on eBay for $15 or $20. THEN I'll consider it.

I appreciate people telling their bad stories about products and companies, but this really seems like you are just nit-picking on every little thing that annoys you about the RCP2 simply because you had a bad experience. You completely neglect to talk about ANY of the pros which you know it has, like the ability to connect two computers. Or how practical it is that you aren't locked to one slider being able to do only one thing, but that you can program them yourself. The fact that only USB-C is present is simply because USB-C is the future. All those "extra things" in the package of the RCP1, well the overlays, I haven't seen anybody use them, so maybe they want to be a little more green, as for the quick setup, I am a newb myself when it comes to these types of electronics, I am new as a youtuber, I am not doing podcasts, and I have a goxlr - I dream of the RCP2 because I love electronics, nothing more.. But if you don't know how to just connect your equipment to it, and you don't want to even bother find out, then this piece of equipment really isn't for you. There is ONE reason I write this comment - that is the fact that you don't mention one single pro of the RCP2. That makes this video unreliable to me.
